You’re not even allowed to have a respectful negative opinion about this game. The fans will call you names and expletives and tell you to fuck off. This community has gotten so toxic and I hate it, and this is coming from someone who’s favourite game in the franchise was Inquisition

The community for this game has made it their entire identity, and have fostered a culture of toxic positivity while ironically shitting on anyone that doesn’t gobble everything up and suck off bioware.

@@presomaleimgame What fans? The last Dragon age game came out 10 years ago, and BioWare’s utterly trashed their reputation with duds like Andromeda and Anthem.
The dragon age fanbase isn’t big enough to make this game a financial success at this point. Plenty of Dragon Age fans have ditched out over the last 10 years, and there are plenty of dragon age fans like myself that couldn’t give a flying rats ass about Silas or the elven gods, generally and a lot of have just moved on.
Dragon Age 2 likewise didn’t perform as well as Origins did, and thus was a flop in that regard, and that game released when BioWare was arguably at their peak.
The gaming community hasn’t exactly received this game with welcome. From what I’ve seen across various social media that reception to Veilguard has been mixed, even the dragon age subreddit, with all its attempt at dismissing and not allowing too much negativity still has plenty of pessimism.
I mean hell you can argue the same logic for Mass effect, that there’s too many fans that’ll support it, yet andromeda still bombed didn’t it? It underperformed.
Veilguard will live and die by its reviews, and even if the reviews are positive, I’d be shocked if it manages to sell well anyway.
Especially with the competition, you’ve got a new Assassins Creed, Black Myth this month, Indiana Jones, Space Marine 2, and not to mention Baldurs Gate 3 is getting its final patch that will add new content and mods.

The game looks aggressively mediocre in nearly every aspect.
The roleplaying won’t reach the heights of games like Baldur’s Gate 3. They’ve already shown way too much auto-dialogue for rook, and the fact that Rook attempts to save someone without any player input makes me think it’s an Andromeda 2.0 situation where a your a preset personality like Ryder was.
The combat looks bland and boring, and like a lazy mix of FF7 Remake and the newer AC games without any of the depth of either.
The artstyle is just trash, characters look like clay, the Darkspawn look like a bunch of goofy ass goobers, and the demons have been reduced to some weird ass neon shades.
I mean they LITERALLY highlighted a shitty fetch quest as one of the ‘handcrafted’ pieces of content. How out of touch are these devs? Inquisition’s number 1 critique was its shitty open world filled with fetch quest, and andromeda copped that complaint too. Yet these muppets thought it was a good idea to show off a shitty fetch quest in their marketing for their newest game was a good idea? Jesus Christ.

Yet another case where the "men in suits" determine what the game will be like, transforming an excellent franchise into something completely different, with changes that NO fan asked for. Usually with the excuse that it's to "attract a new audience", but then why don't they just create a new IP? It's a HUGE lack of respect to take a CRPG and transform it into an Action-RPG focused on consoles... The game may still be good but really, why risk everything like that? Why not innovate in gameplay while still remaining within the CRPG genre? That's sad.

It looks horrible to me. The art style clashes with the tone of DA so badly, it reads like Disney or like a superhero game, even the UI and flash or substance combat, the first thing the game reminds me of is Gotham Knights. I don't understand why every RPG series is pushing more and more into this tired hack and slash territory. Just like Final Fantasy, it really doesn't make sense because the action ones are the least popular. DA2 is the least popular one but they leaned into it even more and will now act surprised that a huge amount of fans hate it.

The character creator is on par with DD2, but the character models don't look good. The companions are so imperative to the story that they change the name of the damn game, but they're mostly there to set up combos in combat (hopefully the story and dialogue with them shines). It's strictly single player, but looks like destiny, diablo 4, and dare I say overwatch? You have to upgrade the stores, upgrade the workbench, weapon upgrades only change percentages of elemental type damage you specialize in..... I don't really know how to feel. The things I've seen with this game that I like I really like. The things I've seen that I don't like leave such a bad taste in my mouth. But what's a long-time dragon age fan to do? The character models don't look that good from that Mage showcase trailer. Maybe it's the engine, but after seeing BG3 it's hard not to compare and DATV has been in development for way longer. But jokes aside, yes this is fully fast-paced action game no matter how much they try to sell it as a tactical focused RPG. Everything seems predicated on combos and if you don't combo then it seems like your companions do tickle damage which is a pain in ass. The newest IGN gameplay really did make me feel that I was looking at an MMORPG as you said. But it makes sense as you described given context. They also said they'd show high-level PC and controller gameplay, but everything has been controller so far. I also agree with the take of every character model being so extremely smooth with no facial textures or ruggedness that was prevalent in Inquisition for example. It's... not great.
    -
The saddest part is that the primary marketing campaign so far has been three things: Dating sim, Character Creator, and trying to convince people that there is still slower-paced tactical combat available for players who enjoyed it in the past. I really really hope they live up to the way they've tried to say that Thedas will be alive and the world feeling exciting. Because with all the footage so far, the environment looks pretty but the world *feels* dull. But we'll have to wait and see for that, I guess.

Dragon age is an adult game, this thing looks like a kid game in terms of graphic. Who made this choice after Inquisition....must really hate Dragon Age. But I could play Dragon Age Origins even without a great graphic, so let's forget this old graphic is not really the result of 10 years of advanced development but a cheap recycling of Mass Effect Andromeda graphic engine. Then this videos shows how the game play is more and more action (really no effort to bring in something more evolved), fine I can stick with it, combos where a secret battle result mixing the skills in Dragon age Origins, nice to see it back.....but, could anyone help me to understand in the videos I have seen, how this action game should work.
With the player forced all the time to stop the game to open the skills wheel interrupting the action, the main core of the game, for what reason, to make an action game pathetically look like a turn based strategic game? This will kill the action flow and make all look frankly like a big mess. Does anyone know if it possible to skip this stupid interface to make the things work automatically during the battle with no need to use this will and kill the flow? I hope there is a way otherwise this game will be ridiculous to play. Sorry to say but they now want 60 euro for a game with an old graphic, a mixed game play system does not satisfy the needs of an action or a turn based style, the only reason at the end left to play this game looks like is the story.....After seeing the Kunaris violated graphically, I hope at least the story will be fine, and things to do will be interesting, but with that messed up fighting system.....huh please tell me it can be avoided for PC....

And i have no idea if you can see the cooldown for their skills and command them to attack a specific enemy without opening the wheel.
Maybe you can set some tactics and let their ai do all the work, but they seemed to do very little damage with their auto attacks in the trailers released so far (and the last two were high level combat so it would seem companions are there only for combos when it comes to combat).

I enjoyed all of them... for about 40 hours. The prob is, I LOVED DA:O, DOS:2 and BG3, and played THOSE games for THOUSANDS of hours.

And I have an Xbox One controller for my PC. Progression tree is almost like the Path of Exile, which could be fun. But as for characters. I don’t know if I would… find someone like Alistair, or Varric, or Iron Bull. I would give it a try to see if it has an immersive world, but after playing Baldur’s Gate 3, I don’t think that anyone could make something better

The itemizations is very arpg Diablo/PoE or looter shooter MMO'esque, the combat is not, it's a lot more like spiderman/arkham/GoW. And obviously it has been developed a 100% for console and just ported to PC.
I also agree at this point after watching that Qunari abomination that the character creator is not going to be as good as they claim, it's just going to have a lot of option nobody is going to use like vitiligo and having one eye looking inwards or bloodshot eyes, etc. If the CC was as robust as they claim they would to the same as Dragons Dogma 2 and InZoi and just release a CC Demo, it's free marketing with explosive word of mouth.

  • @Asankeket
    @Asankeket 10 дней назад +1

I can only say that should this be the first DA game I don't buy, it will be for the flashy, super-fast, over-the-top combat. I can live with characters who just look serviceable (and I don't think they look that bad in the first place, honestly), environment aesthetics that look good but don't capture the feel of the setting, subpar character creators and I'm even somewhat tolerant of bugs as long as they aren't game-breaking. But this style of combat....I just hate it. And that it reminds me of DA2 makes things worse. I hated the combat in that game so much that on subsequent playthroughs I did to explore roleplaying options, I chose easy difficulty and added a damage reduction mod on top of it, just because I wanted combat to be over faster and preferably with no input from me at all.

Regarding the facial animations, I think it's worth remembering that Inquisition faced a lot of criticism for having a zoomed-out camera during most conversations and it sounds like they tried to move away from that for this game by having everything be up-close. Given that the animations in the actual cinematics looked a lot better, this might just be a matter of it not being technically feasible to have fully motion-captured animations for every single character interaction. Which was probably why they did the zoomed-out camera in Inquisition in the first place.

The reveals looked ok to me. Yes the qunari rook looks dumb. But thats a character creation. There are better looking qunari in the newer video just released. I noticed some animation issues too. But honestly, I never played Bioware for their visuals or combat systems. I like the characters and lore and choices and consequences. I play Bioware for the writing. And the writers on this one are vets from the original DA and ME and BG games. I can only decide how much i like/dislike this game when I've played it and experienced the story and how much I can influence the world by my choices. The rest just doesnt matter to me. What matters to each of you will be different. But if the direction of this DA is making you unhappy, then please find something that excites you. Or replay BG3.

I’m not so worried about the art style or the faces anymore, now what bugs me is the jank. Now BioWare games have always had jank, but because of how vibrant the art style and graphics are and the 60 fps, they stand way more in combat. The running animation is so wooden, looks like you’re running on ice, and the transition from running to walking is very abrupt. Don’t even get me started on ALL of the effects, it looks like there’s whole frames missing. This game is not finished lol. I’m still gonna buy it but damn is this really the best they can do

Same here for controls. If a game is optimized for the controller but plays poorly with a mouse and keyboard, I am out.
I also don't really see the point behind a party-action RPG where your teammates need constant attention to do some damage. We had that in Mass Effect and in the end, the teammates were just carriers for additional abilities you could call upon. Party combat in single-player is better suited for turn-based games where you have time to take control of your team members.

I wouldn't say that MMO combat is that popular that I imagine Bioware trying to jump on that "trend"....what this reminds me of somehow is Cyberpunk before its big rework.
You had dozens of useless perks/skills ala "+5% damage if the wind blowing from the east", "after reloading gain buff xyz for 5 seconds".
CDPR saw that this is just boring bloat and removed all of it for more impactful perks that change your playstyle.
About controller/kb+m....I would say kb+m has a significant advantage as you can keybind you companions' skills and therefore play w/o pausing.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a game I still play, despite knowing the story and characters. The gameplay was solid and makes me think. Thats how you do a modern Triple A big budget crpg.
Also, i got to be honest, yeah the facial animations and some character designs in the Mass Effect trilogy might be dated, but the games released on Xbox 360 and Ps3 well over a decade ago. Thats not an excuse for terrible models. And if we're gonna go there, Femshep is still one of the most attractive video game chaarcters, and broshep is a decent looking dude. I'm going to buy this game because I love DA, I know that this game is going to disappoint me, but I'm not shocked as I knew that the game was going to be online and they changed everything from RPG to online to "rpg" again, I guess now its just a reality for the game, I do not like the flashy MMO, saturated, bs on the screen, and its AGAIN confused about its identity and I hope above all, that the main story is relatively interesting and has emotional stakes, but I'm not holding my breathe.

I didn't have to revise anything. No brag, just fact. The reveal trailer was just garbage marketing. I knew it wouldn't be indicative of the gameplay. It was just a terrible ad. As for the demo, I called out everything wrong with it, from the PS2 era graphics, to the bad storyline, to the Inquisitor's absence. The trailer after that is the one BioWare should have led with, but the story is still bad. The warrior combat was too flashy and had bugs. The mage demo further confirmed that player choice has gone out the window, as Rook speaks for the player much more than the player gets to select dialogue options. The deep dive is also awful that shows how we once again can't switch abilities during combat, even while the ability slots have been cut in half from 8 to 3 + 1. And I agree this looks like an MMO system, especially the duplicate item being merged into the existing item to power it up. Also, the companions don't take damage, and you don't have to worry about healing them. There is no strategy to this.
