Why not just put the black stencil on a white painted background and be done with it?

It does but it's a little trickier to apply vinyl to canvas. I made a video on how I apply a simple name design to canvas, I hope it helps ---> ruclips.net/video/eH1NUxAPOQw/видео.html
Can this be done with any vinyl or does it need to be a specific type??
I HIGHLY recommend using stencil vinyl (oramask 813 stencil film) when painting stenciled signs. If you want to have the background painted and use a vinyl decal for your lettering you can use either 651 or 631 Oracal vinyl. Both would work great if used inside :)
Do you have to have a crockpot to get the sticker stencil
Hi Laura, you do need to either have a craft cutting machine such as a Cricut or Silhouette or purchase a stencil to use for this specific tutorial.
