I watched all the "Reacting To My Old Music" videos and i have to say that i liked your early works much more than the country-popish songs you wrote.

The Velvedere stuff is actually really good. I could totally see it being on stadium country charts next to Keith Urban and Brad Paisley.
I feel like this series really lets me understand where you come from, both as a musician and as a person. I think my biggest takeaway is that they're no substitute for hard work and determination-seeing your stuff get better and better over the years has inspired me to keep at it and be the best musician I can be.

Really awesome series! It kinda felt like we were getting to know you (like if someone had asked how you became a musician at a party and you'd just start telling your story, a guitar in one hand, a beer in the other (if that's possible))

Just out of curiosity did you shoot these all in the same day and change your shirts throughout the videos? Just couldn't help noticing everything in your place being arranged in the exact same place like that yellow cup to your left along with all the other things on the countertop and the little remote thing on your couch along with the position of the guitar over there to your right and a couple stray beard and head hairs being the same... very strange observation but its weighing heavy on my mind now 😂. Love your channel by the way, you've helped me out immensely since I started watching your videos.
I love triumph. I saw them back in 83 when they were in Milwaukee for The World Series of Rock at County Stadium. Ric played a half hour guitar solo. Triumph played with Foreigner, Loverboy, 38 Special, and Quarterflash. Ric is a phenomenal guitarist.

Gotta say this is my favorite series that you have done, it made me think back to my own evolution in my playing and it was nice to see the evolution of someone that I admire from their earliest stages up to the present. Helps to remind me how much we can evolve as musicians, and how important it is to not forget where you came from. Good job and good luck in your future.

Thanks for sharing your journey Samurai. Playing in school bands is where I played my best music even though I sucked big time. But playing in front of your peers def makes your playing better. Especialky when theres a kid whis better than you at everything your good at for me it was a kid named Jarden. Man he was good but trying to match him made me better but never as good. Man loved those days music was all that mattered.
Loved the evolution of your music but it was even more fun to see your evolution :-)

I really appreciate you sharing your story. I am currently in the process of getting my creative endeavors going and to monetize them. The hardest part I had to get through was just understanding that skill is not developed and not static. I would see (and I still do see) talented musicians perform and feel terrible that my skill level is not at their level. But, it really is a journey. I recently have gotten a group started and am putting my heart into this stuff to make my passions a way of living. I also strongly recommend checking out “A Life In Parts” by Bryan Cranston and “Real Artists Don’t Starve” by Jeff Goins. Perfect for any artist to check out.

Have you ever thought of going into teaching? Designing classes and making lesson plans, etc is like writing a song and lecturing is like playing live.
I think you would be great at it with your passion and intellect. Hey, you also get summers off for tours, etc.
Maybe not now, but keep it in mind for the future. Cheers.

This is a good series. I relate to some of it fairly well, and some of it...I’m just not there yet. The thing that pops up in my mind, though, is why don’t you try writing songs just for YOU? You’re obviously better than good. Keep doing what you’re doing, but take some “me” time.

Nice...I bet Rik is a great guy to hang and learn from...I'm curious as to whether you've ever done any work with or met Gord Downy when the Tragically Hip were around?... Those guys are one of my favorite bands and he was an amazing lyricist...There's a huge talent pool north of the American border and I just don't understand why so many people here in the States don't get the exposure to it, especially given the distance as compared to England...
