To put aside any panic, I'm not quitting but I think it's time for a change. My goal remains the same though: to be a good steward of your support and viewership and to keep y'all entertained and informed. That’s the best way to describe it.
A lot of YTs changing or leaving, have been on the plateform for 10ish years. Makes sense that a wave of youtubers are bouncing or having to rethink their channel. Especially since YT is harming content creating. Between burnout, algorithims, and hateculture, many of these YT vets are just over it. They want lives, and YT demanded more and more every year.

The platform's changed so much, the old guard's realizing it little resembles the thing that they wanted to do this for. And if that's changed, and they have cash...time to either do something new or take the money and run.
This is so exciting! I prefer when youtubers reduce their upload schedule and make meaty video essays. I think I can speak for most of your subscribers when I say that we really love this change. My only concern is for the uncertainty of it in regards to you and your team's finances, but don't worry about us :)
I'm not displeased to hear about this new direction, I always really liked the long form videos. I tend to rewatch them while I'm working for background sounds.

as someone who is personally a big fan of long form project style content, im excited to see the channel shift
plus honestly, 2-3 videos a month to me is still very generous when some youtubers tend to upload long form content like 6 times a year maximum
Oddly, he said something similar to this a few months ago; shortly after he finally managed to get the Balto video past the studio's copyright lawyers. This isn't so much a new announcement as it is a confirmation of where Saber would like to take his channel.

I totally feel you in this video. I've been a full time freelance artist for over a decade, and I used to churn out content to pay the bills, but last year I decided that churning out art wasn't making me happy and I wans't seeing growth. And I want to keep growing as a creator and not keep spinning my wheels even if it works. I really wanted to improve the quality of my art and rekindle my love for art and I've taken a gamble and slowed down at the risk of making less income. I'll tell you though, it's worth it. My followers have been super understanding and even though I'm putting out less art I've gotten so many compliments that what I have been putting out is much better. And the feeling of burnout went away; I'm much happier with my art in general, and my bills are still getting paid. So it's worth it, and I'm confident you'll keep growing and do great!
Been watching you since 2018. You go whichever way feels best, I will come back to your channel no matter what Saber. You do you! We as your fans will always be by your side. And hey! The old videos will always be there. Whether it be Trolland or Finding Jesus 😂
Fewer uploads sounds like a good way to go with the state of animation and Hollywood itself. Thanks for the years of content though and for committing to sticking around for years to come. My first video I watched of yours was the Pacific Rim my little pony crossover idea. Still hilarious, RIP cuitie mark crusaders though.
I've been watching for... jesus, SEVEN years now, and I'm pleased to see a renewed focus on the longer, more in depth stuff. I'd rather hear your thoughts on something you care about regardless of how timely it is, rather than being obligated by youtube to get a video out while the subject matter is still relevant, and I'm thrilled that the Patreon is helping you do stuff you really wanna do!
Tbf I haven’t really been watching a lot of the bad movie reviews, but I love the videos you mentioned as being more in depth, so I like this direction you’re going in.
One thing I would love to see more of though is reviews of good independent animations or underrated animations that not enough people are talking about. If it wasn’t for this channel, Lackadaisy might not have even crossed my radar, and both the animation as well as the comics have now become one of my favorite pieces of media of all time.

There are definitely many channels that focus on long format documentaries or longer marathon explorations, and the support is equally strong with their fanbase. Just look at Caddicarus. He only makes long form videos now and they take months to produce. But they are all magical experiences that are worth the wait, every single time.

As Tiktok eats up all the short-form content, it looks like a lot of RUclipsrs are changing over to more long form content and the guys over at Corporate are not ready for that. Between monetization issues and ever censored algorithm stuff, the next few years on this site are gonna be weird.

The youtube algorithm started favoring long form content a few years ago, which is one of the reasons longer video essays started becoming more of a thing.
The copyright system has definitely been a major issue, but it also just seems a lot of people are dealing with burnout and either stepping back or spreading out their schedule more.
The last few years have been pretty stressful for just about everyone so it might be a case of people just reaching a point where they need to step back. And when one person makes the plunge, it sometimes gives others the push to move forward with doing something they'd been thinking about already.
Proud to see your growth, the positive change, and your journey through your career. I loooove longer video essays, your videos have always been so nice to watch while I work.

I love all of your content. I am glad you are changing direction instead of leaving completely. I love your videos, because you don’t just say “this is good, this is bad”. You explain why, and how it can be better. I am trying to be a stop motion animator, and I have learned so much more about visual storytelling from your videos than from any classes I have attended. Thank you.
For example, he made a video about the anti-Mormon cartoons, and he actually cited the exact Book of Mormon passages from which the peculiar beliefs originated. Something that the cartoons he covered didn't bother to do during their infodumps.

While I do love the weird stuff (and thus have subbed to the Highlights channel), the best essays are always the ones where you deep-dive into something and present that type of story. It's awesome to settle in and hear about the DRAMA of the industry or the story behind something you love. And a sparser upload schedule means the channel is easier to keep up with. I am overall very pleased to hear this announcement!
