Trying to navigate this story with a critical lens because there are a LOT of accusations floating around on Twitter but I was able to confirm a few. All in all, a VERY weird story and a lesson in how important it is to not waste your money especially when you're asking for free animation on your channel afterwards. I imagine there will be some more info to come from this story so nothing is 100% in stone but it's a pretty odd situation to say the least
This is the kinda drama I like. The drama where nobody got hurt or abused (I should hope), it's just really funny and absurd and most of the responses are like "Yeah dude we all have weird fantasies but why did you spend 50k to animate yours"
@@JohanBautista-fm9xyOh noes, they’re gonna cancel him… which really means that absolutely nothing of significance will happen and the situation remains the same. Oh noes.
Considering what other RUclipsrs were caught doing (charity fraud, gr**ming, doxxing, and mishandling/making up SA cases for money), spending $50k on self shipping cringe is honestly not that bad.
Yet it still really baffles me that this guy couldn’t have just saved all that money & just did something strictly for himself free of charge. This is another example of money down the drain.

I wrote fanfics when I was in highschool. Made bank. Bronies paid out the ass for a good story commission, and even more for editing. Sonic fans had the creepiest comissions and I actually had to turn down a few. And, if im being honest, 90% of the comissions were the exact same thing with different characters, same plot.
So were the vast majority of sonic ones stuff like this? That feels like it was a bunch of people either having one idea or one guy with tons of accounts spamming you.
To me, this whole controversy is just hilarious and very concerning. Like, my mind is still wrapped around by all this! Why would he spend 50k on this?!
Try not using heating, and wearing a sweater or jacket inside the house. That'll save you $135 per month. And there are ways to spend less at a grocery store. First: pick up dairy first. Don't grab anything beforehand, as dairy is kept in the back, where you have to go further into the store. Second: time yourself. In and out in, say 30 minutes. Less time in the store means less time to see and buy things you want, but don't need. Third: pick up dessert before healthier options. This will basically shame you into buying less candy. Fourth: Don't pick up a shopping cart, as you'll want to fill it up more, as all that empty space will make you remember the void incident, which will make you buy stuff out of stress Fifth: If you grabbed something that you realize that you don't want at the checkout, hand it to the cashier. They aren't paid enough to care about the company, and will get a homie to return it. Sixth: go in with a set budget. And don't spend a dollar over it. This will save you about $60 per trip. Over 7 monthly trips, this'll save you $420. Adding with the $135 of not using the heating, this will save you $555 per month. In 7.5 years, you'll be able to afford another AMV. I know this was a joke, but I just want to help someone who sees this.
Hate to be that guy, but there’s no way this was faked. Verbalase even said himself on discord that he spent over 50k dollars on a special project, as seen at 4:11. Kinda sucks cuz he was one of my favorite childhood RUclipsrs

The way the art styles changes every few scenes, and how Charlie goes from being larger than him to the same size, the way she seems to morph in volume in some shots, mixed with some obvious tracing from the pilot leads me as an animator to believe that there were at least more than one animator. Doubtful that it was a 15yo but if it was at least the kid made good money and really tried to make a project with $50k quality
Art style does not change, but the proportions are not consistent, which doesn't matter bc they are clearly going for that cartoon network type vibe. Stop trying to be DaVinci. Yeah it's corny he spent that much but yal care too much
Even if it was just a storyboard, lots of artist will *exponentially* up the price if you want them to draw spicy stuff. Its half as a deterrent, half to preserve their sanity while looking at this for hours.
@Mediados why is it a problem that people draw porn for a living? There are plenty of people who draw it for free, there’s nothing wrong with someone choosing to draw NSFW comms, whether it be because of how potentially lucrative the market is or just cause they want to draw porn
@@Mediados I get where you're coming from. Porn can seem pretty meaningless. But, it's all up to the individual. Most things are alright in moderation. And I think it's possible to have a meaningful relationship with it. People should be in touch with their own desires if they ever want to learn to control them. Shunning them entirely only leads people to misery. And between you and me, if I was an animator, I'd take 50k for a lot of things. That's a year's salary for a lot of entry-level jobs. That can be pretty meaningful. You make four of those things in a year and you've got four years of living if you can partition it right. Kinda crazy. That said, it was a studio getting paid 50k here, so it's gonna be divided among the staff, but still, money's money.
Found the original video and.. I can actually see where the money went. This was a labor of love sponsored by a madman. A unique piece of animation history that could only exist due to the vanity of a lunatic and I kinda love it.
Based on what I've heard about all this, it's on level with the kind of stuff the deviantart wonderbread guy would commission, but with less weird fetishes attached. But the fact that he's basically simping this hard for an animated character is what makes it a huge wtf for the internet. On the other hand, it's basically an animated fanfic with a self insert, which, while unusual and very self indulgent, isn't that weird since those get written all the time. The two big details that make people flip over it? It's an animated video that cost about $50k, and due to the info leak, is now openly and publicly associated with this dude and all he is already known for. This is the kind of thing people go at least three fake names deep for.
You can't deny, he did go all the way with this, nothing was half-assed, he wanted "it" that bad. So congratulations, Verbalase, you win the "NO SERIOUSLY, WHY THE F WOULD YOU DO THAT" Award
Bro, Verbalase’s blockheaded self could literally sketch EVERYTHING in a notebook. No one would have to know about his obsession, and nobody would take his bread from him.
Honestly, even if he commissioned someone to do a comic, or a big fanfic and an audio recording to go with it, it would have been substantially cheaper and basically ignored. But no, his Horny was too much, so he basically bankrupted himself for his cartoon waifu.
@@TiramisuTTXDbro should’ve just traced in a notebook if he sucks that bad 💀 Imagine being so bad at drawing you pay 50k, publicly out yourself as a 40yo weirdo with the hots for a lesbian drawing, instead of simply tracing her and your avatar for cringe self insert art no one would ever see.
First off, I'd like to clarify that this was not done by a 15 year old, That rumor is fake, it was done by a professional team. Second, the fact that this guy spent 50K on a bad animated fanfic is just wild. Definitely not worth going bankrupt over.
@@alysssabear Edit - he apparently doesn't have a wife and kids. He is still 40 y/o and was begging his young fanbase for free work to save his channel, so I could see where the rumor came from
To be honest, compared to other things he could’ve been accused of, this is actually pretty tame in my eyes. To me personally it was a financially irresponsible decision that he made and now he’s broke. All I can say is… Do better, Ace.
Moneys exists only to be spent. Yes spending too much may damage yourself but ask yourself: if spending thoose moneys, even if you end up broken, lets you get something that gives you happyness would you refuse to achieve said happyness or would you be willing to spend every single money you have for it? Some people need some specific things to be happy even if getting them may look a waste of moneys in the eyes of everyone else what matters is that moneys are made to be spent, whoever has moneys is free to choose how to spend them and as long as someone spend moneys for their own happyness and doesn't hurt anyone else I don't see anything wrong about it
Well that was a wild ride ahaha I've actually been on the other side as an artist who has, in the past, been commissioned for some really odd requests. The strangest one I think was someone who commissioned me to draw a mermaid version of Jasmine checking the pulse on the neck of the lifeguard lady from Lilo & Stitch. I'm always just like...both bemused but also impressed that people can even come up with these ideas in the first place like this entered your brain and then you PAID me to draw it like whoa
I don't judge him for having a crush on fictional characters (we've all been there), but I can't imagine actually working with a team of people to animate and produce a fantasy of myself and my fictional crush so shamelessly. That stays between me and God. Hope this is a case of "any publicity is good publicity" for his channel, although not paying his fans is pretty sh*tty.

Now that the video has a ton of demand to see it, he can put it up on his channel and make some real dough. Might as well embrace the cringe for the cash ...
I don't think so. I think Saber's theory makes more sense because if it was for personal reasons he would have never had to wrestle with uploading it onto a second channel, he wouldn't have made the animation a music video, and he wouldn't have made so little of it the actual SA part. I think it was a very poorly planned music video meant to expand the brand outside of rap battles. It just doesn't make any sense why he would be talking about the video in the DM's shown like one of his rap battles, saying that the "rap battles also cost around 38k" without it being in his view another source of revenue.
@@zviavia8518exactly i think he just said "make a spicy amv with me and that hazbin hotel character" and they assumed that "spicy" meant "Ghost Peppers" xD i think he had an idea to make a hazbin hotel crossover, wanted it to look spicy and that actual animators themselves went overboard on the spicy part XD
Has anyone else noticed the best quality animation frames of charlie are basically copied directly from the official animations? whenever the animators do something they can't trace, the quality dips DRAMATICALLY. They definitely cut a lot of corners to make this, which, yeah, I would too, lol.
well, charlie's design isn't symmetrical and it's hard to make a turn around. keep in mind that this isn't a full fledged series, especially on the original character models, with reference sheets. this is entirely improvised.
The thing about this, is that, I've never even HEARD of this guy. I've never even SEEN one of his video's before. My RUclips just knows I like to watch certain drama, so now I know all about it. Dude sunk himself into a hole that's damaging all across the internet.
In all honesty, the animation itself isn't that bad, and the song is a very relaxing listen. It's just that $50,000 price tag that's a dark cloud over the entire thing.
Welcome to professional animation. I think the biggest shame here outside of all the dirt is that people are still using this price tag to clown on how much art should cost. There's a reason no one else other than a 5m sub RUclipsrs can even think of a 3 minute AMV commission.
It's not a dark cloud, the artist deserved that money. Have you ever even ATTEMPTED animating? I have, I quit because it was just too hard and slow. The people who are able to sit down, painstakingly draw, color, and shade HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS of frames deserve to be commended. I wish all animators got such fair payment.
Theory: he created the video and uploaded it solely to draw attention back to his channel, Hazbin Hotel is huge so naturally it would draw in a huge crowd. And the thirst and absurdity of it would add to the explosive power of its attention on the internet.
I still hoping out for this concept But the actions of him Don’t seem to correspond to it .. . Even to the theory of him ordering his own channel death. It really feels like it’s out of his hands .. ..😰and the problem is True
Business expense- Animation budget for youtube video: $50,000. Going rate for animation is presently $20,000-$7,000 per minute. They're not gonna watch the video and see that he put himself in the animation and did kinky stuff with a cartoon character.
I feel bad for the guy tbh, it was an unforntunate event and then being made fun by the whole internet and then the animator releasing personal emails, shit's tough
I'm honestly so glad that the animator wasnt a minor. If you didn't know, Twitter made up a rumor that the animator he paid to make the animation was a 15 year old, to make him look even worse. :/
Twitter always makes up BS like when randos said they were in the car with dream during the Dream contreversey i don't get why everyone believes Twitter lmao
It's really dumb how upset I am that this is out of character for Charlie instead of caring about some guy I've never heard of blowing dummy money on his fanfiction lol
Same. Like, I enjoy fanfic but this........this was off the wall. Charlie is not my favorite (Alastor is my favorite), but dammit she is a decent character and this just feels soooooo off for her.
This reminds me of the creator of Bayonetta not caring that she was being used in h*ntai comics/DJs. Rather he was upset that a lot of them interpreted her as being a “bottom” when she should’ve been a “top”. Respect.
Thank you!!! I’ve seen some high schoolers on RUclips with serious talent and skill but it’s nothing to this level. Not to deride teens that are great artists, it’s just I don’t believe there are many 15 year olds (if any) that are at this skill point already. It’s not impossible but definitely improbable.
As someone who went to a visual arts high school, there were definitely a few kids capable of things like this. They aren't common but they're out there for sure.
it's literally studio quality shit especially the backgrounds, the fact that anyone ever believed that period at any point is insane even if there are 15 year olds out there who are godlike at animation, plus verbalase works with a studio for his beatboxing cartoons so why would he ever ask a single minor to animate as opposed to another studio cause that'd be weird and it'd take so much more time like it's so dumb to think that
If I would spend THAT much money on a self-indulgent fanfic music video with my favorite cartoon character, there WILL be a lot more going on then just chasing and forglow 😭😭
tbh the $50k figure made much more sense for a group of animators/studio making a music video. I was having a hard time believing that was put on the shoulders of one (potentially underaged) artist. Also jfc a 2 month turnaround?? That seems impressive even for a team of animators!
Tbh this whole situation just kind of seems like a bunch of people not respecting someone’s right to buy something and the asking price of whoever created it. At the end of the day, even if the guy got into debt because of it, he didn’t do anything to harm anyone by commissioning the video. (If he did end up being financially unstable because of it… yeah, bad decision, but it’s not harming anyone but himself.) Animation is not only difficult to get right but VERY time consuming… I haven’t seen the whole video of course, but with just the clips shown here, and knowing that it was done in 2 months by a team, yeah, 50k sounds about right. The person I’m replying to here is a great example of this - check out the video on their channel called “Cimrai Intro Animation”, and check the pinned comment. Not only is the animation incredible, but you get to see the perspective of the person who commissioned the animation too - they were really happy with the end result, and, when you commission an artist, that’s ultimately the end goal - to be happy with what you paid for. As long as Verbalase is happy with the video, all the power to him, lol. P.S to BeautySnake- Miu is literally one of my favorite character designs ever she is just. The best
To be fair, everyone's got their dirty little secrets. For Verbalase's to be exposed like that is humiliating, but I'm also upset at the person who decided to make that public.
Idk man it's not cool but I hope this shame convinces him to go outside, touch some grass and perhaps talk to a woman IRL. Crushing on fictional characters is weird, but this is straight up mental illness and the dude needs help.
man this story is just wild, 10k is a lot but could've save him from getting clown on, 50 grand for a kiss is freaking insane let alone he was already struggling financial
This was the funniest news I heard this month. To be fair, 50,000 USD for a 3 minute video is a very good deal, considering what you'd actually pay for mainstream commercial (you'd pay at least that amount for a full production minute of a trailer/intro to a video game). I have followed Verbalese for a while and I actually like his stuff, but its sad to see him struggle with maintaining it, while also having mismanagement of resources. payment in exposure is always never a good idea. Great video Saber!
Glad someone else seems to understand the optics and not think "lol I could get this done for $1k". That's the most frustrating part about the whole debacle. Hollywood is trying to phase out artists (again) and then we see the internet laugh at the thought of paying $50k for a quality animation? Yeah, I only see AI in our future at this rate.
@@raze2012_ I don't think it's necessarily a pro-ai stance. Most people, even those who regularly commission art, probably aren't in contact with the kind of artists that charge that much. You could argue other artists are depressing the price, but for them it's likely between offering a competitive price for their niche or being passed over for someone who does. It would take a collective action to raise the price
It would've been so much less expensive to just get a writer to write a decent length fic about it, then commission an artist to do an illustration of some of the scenes
I’ve seen my fair share of self-insert commissions, but this one takes the cake. The man paid a college student’s yearly tuition for a music vid that traced over scenes from the Hazbin pilot.
I understand your rule against working with minors on "basically anything". I remember being bummed out when trying to sign up for your Joshua reanimated collab at 17, but I now understand it and agree completely. Working with minors as an adult always carries risks, no matter the context.
That's a really stupid way of thinking. You have to fight to gain experience in your field, especially when it comes to art, and especially at that age. The more you learn when young, the more experience you can apply to your later works, and in the end the sooner you can actually progress as an artist. Constricting yourself to such ideals that you're not allowed to do anything before 18 is really stupid.
@@karloveliki5373 I do get where you're coming from, but at the end of the day if an adult doesn't feel comfortable working with minors, that is their choice. A lot of work goes into keeping spaces (e.g Discord servers) free of content inappropriate for minors. Plus with the Internet being so accessible, and minors even hosting their own projects, young artists don't lack opportunities to practice and get their stuff out there. There are also still a fair amount of adults who keep their projects open to minors with either parental consent or by keeping their spaces safe. At the end of the day, it should be up to the host, and being cautious is perfectly reasonable given that there will always be a power dynamic in adult-minor interactions. It's not about gatekeeping them from experience, it's about keeping them safe.
If there's something to get out of this is that the dude probably saved up for 2 years to make a personal project that IS NOT MEANT TO BE SHARED THROUGH PUBLIC! While 50k is insane, there are no information so far that it lead to bankruptcy. At the end of the day, it is his money and it's a bummer that his personal video is now shared throughout the internet to not only be mocked but even make wild rumours like an underage animator made this.
I feel like the biggest piece of damning evidence against him is that it's his own OC. The only explanation I can think of for someone else to purchase an AMV like that would be A, someone who is a diehard fan of him who chose to ship him with Charlie from Hazbin Hotel for some reason. Or B, it was a gift from a friend. Neither sound very likely to me tbh.
Actually I’m kinda glad it cost a lot of money, because those animators and artists deserve to be fairly compensated for wasting tens of hours of their lives on this.
What I think is funnier is that the project uses backgrounds made for the Hazbin pilot and seem to even have traced some of the frames from there as well. Imagine spending tens of thousands on a project where the animators just rip assets from somewhere else
@@humantoonits easy to see multiple points where they exactly traced the frames (?) Like I literally was able to screenshot points in both the pilot and the music video where it was obviously traced
Definitely more than one person worked on it. It is highly unlikely one person would have the correct skills and time/energy for compositing, 3D modeling and animation and cleanup. 50k would make sense if it was a team

Well giving a 15 year old $50,000 is not very realistic. Plus the animation for the spider verse Lego scene is a different media than frame by frame animation. You technically don't need to be good at drawing to do CGI animation.
There are a few answer. I would assume dude likes rough play, or is into yanderes, and there's that non-con RP. Regardless, bruv got exposed in 4K. Well, 50K

thank you saber for actually taking the time to do research on this, i saw so many accusations with no evidence, not even faked screenshots or anything of the matter, I think we can all agree that this was a weird thing to make but to spend nearly 50k on it is insane. however spreading misinformation and just believing it without seeing the proof is harmful, so thank you for providing what you know on the situation, what is not true and such. let this be a reminder not to believe something just because some guy said it and then more people believe it and parrot it.
Yeah I feel like stuff is taken at face value with this stuff and accusations can be fabricated and as long as nobody looks into it it is perceived as true.
@@YoucicanCan I just ask, how stupid are people that they're willing to believe that? Based on the quality of this animation and the production, it's very unrealistic that a single 15-year-old would make this, and why would Verbalase, a man in his 40s, even want an animation like this to be made by a single teenager when he clearly could've gotten an adult or a studio to make it for him? Not to sound ageist or anything like that, but no way a 15-year-old would be able to make something of quality for... _that_ kind of stuff, at least not of this level (maybe it's possible for a single 15-year-old to make an animation of this quality by themself, but that just seems very rare, and unlikely for this situation). It was a team of profesionals so yeah none of them made 50k. It really depends on how many people worked on it, I hope they at leas got paid fearly wich seems to be the case. 3 minutes of hand drawn animation is a lot of work and artists tend to be treated like trash so I'm glad at least the money could help them live more comfortably in this difficult times. I think the fact that the video has existed for a while and only got maliciously leaked recently proves that this wasn’t some sort of publicity stunt on his end. Maybe it was intentionally leaked alongside the show’s release to get as much attention (and to cause as much damage to him) as possible, but that’s just speculation on my end.
Maybe if he paid his employees I'd feel some sympathy but the fact that he paid for this at the same time that he's begging for money on his channel speaks volumes
I see this as a W for everyone involved. For the animators that got payed, for Hazbin that is getting even more viral marketting due to this, for us who are just watching this in awe/shock, and for Verbalase, who might actually grow and evolve in his art and business habits after this shitshow.
My main question is how this got leaked in the first place. Either the animator was cheated out of some of their pay and publicised it to spite him (which begs the question, if paying 50 grand bankrupted him and it _still_ wasn't enough, just how much did this cost?), he was careless with it and ended up fucking himself over with an accidental leak (possibly through accidentally posting it on a Discord server, or the commissioned artist's tweet was public), or, one of his employees (because let's be honest, Verbalase definitely doesn't work alone) discovered that he just blew the entire budget of Cartoon Beatbox Battles on porn and brought the whole thing into the public eye.
Wasn’t even p0rn, that’s the worst part…it’s *soft core p0rn*. Doesn’t even show anything. If I paid 50k for this I’d want real p0rn tbh. (NOT SAYING I EVER WOULD THE INTERNET EXISTS WITH FREE STUFF)
1. There's no reliable source about bankruptcy at all. So I would drop it unless something big comes. Probably just itnernrt hyperbole. 2. Based on what Saber said, it was public on some other channels (sounds like a 2nd channel) for a while then taken down. Depending on who watched it it could be anyone. So, I was an Ink/Painter for Charlie on the Hazbin Hotel pilot and it is...sure something to watch a character you worked on in this type of video. Also, your price assessment is on point, Saberspark. $50k for a 3 minute video is about an average rate for a project like this. The animation's pretty good, about on par for what I'd expect for this level, and they probably could cut back on the preproduction costs since it's a fan work and thus character and environmental designs are already kind of done, and thus the extra money spent on character frame-by-frame animation and the parallax environments. Just...wow. I've had some weird projects from clients before but this takes the cake. So the video was known about but never actually seen until now, or has your community seen it for years and it just got leaked to the rest of the internet?

I'm very confused how people on a channel of not-so-in-the-closet furry animation critique is embarrassed of some mild BDSM. I guess Sabre's audience is younger than I expected. Like, you think of this then think about the thousands of R34 artists. How do they feel?
The only way i can see Verbalase being saved is if he admits that he did ask and pay for the animation to be used for views but he didn't specify what he wanted well enough to it ended up being something absolutely embarrassing so he didn't want it getting out. Thats the ONLY scenario, it being a mistake.
I was honestly thinking the same thing. That's the only possible justification I could think of. If it isn't that, then I genuinely don't know what he was thinking
I'm actually subscribed to/just discovered Verbalase fairly recently. The guy blew money giving his past episodes a better animation; the reboots saw a significantly diminished return, to put it in a way - that's what I think was bankrupting him.
I think the worst part of this is that now he's gonna get a lot of free "fanart" on certain sites just because of how much this has blown up we all know the rule

Fourth: Don't pick up a shopping cart, as you'll want to fill it up more, as all that empty space will make you remember the void incident, which will make you buy stuff out of stress
Fifth: If you grabbed something that you realize that you don't want at the checkout, hand it to the cashier.

The way the art styles changes every few scenes, and how Charlie goes from being larger than him to the same size, the way she seems to morph in volume in some shots, mixed with some obvious tracing from the pilot leads me as an animator to believe that there were at least more than one animator.

On the other hand, it's basically an animated fanfic with a self insert, which, while unusual and very self indulgent, isn't that weird since those get written all the time. The two big details that make people flip over it? tbh the $50k figure made much more sense for a group of animators/studio making a music video.

Sure, but 50K on THIS? Like, this isn't for his channel or anything, he's just throwing away money.

@@raze2012_ I don't think it's necessarily a pro-ai stance. Most people, even those who regularly commission art, probably aren't in contact with the kind of artists that charge that much. I understand your rule against working with minors on "basically anything". I remember being bummed out when trying to sign up for your Joshua reanimated collab at 17, but I now understand it and agree completely. Working with minors as an adult always carries risks, no matter the context.
What's funny is it wasn't a minor that made the animation it was a actual COMPANY
