I just gone one today and spent about 4 hours with the thing. Disabled the MASH asap lol. Set it up for "hold to tap". BUTTTT after seeing the mash in use I think I'm just gonna get a footswitch and BRING BACK THE MASH. Amazing demo!
best review of this pedal I've seen, I'm now going to buy because of this. great job and a great review
this thing is way cooler with that mash thing than I was thinking it was going to be. Nice demo!
That Toneprint #3 with Mash is like living inside Syd Barrett's head after a cuppa Mandrax and mushroom tea
Lame comment about a genius and people with mental issues in general.
In my opinion.
No offense intended!
Good demo. I just bought this pedal and needed a quick jumpstart tutorial, you sold me on this pedal twice!
Kevin Lozano You got me beat.. TWICE!!!
Hi kevin, please tellme if the subdivisin switch works fine at the three positions, because mine just work on two, thankyou
Awesome review. Love your demo and you totally sold me on the pedal now.
Nah guys, he's just playing around with the mash at the beginning. If used right the mash can be very useful and sound pretty good
My gf bought me one of these and I've been in love with TC ever since.. most versatile and best sounds
wow she sounds like a keeper
Stay in love with your girlfriend above all, cheers!
@@waynemetallum7623 haha totally!
Cada vez más y más me convenzo de comprar este pedal
I have the Hall of Fame 2 and love it. I got other delays but now I need this! Awesome review thank you sir
Thanks for the reverse guitar demo. Gig saver!
Nice job on your vids. I really enjoy them.
I pulled the trigger on a used Flashback 2 based on another demo. It showcased a bit better how to use the Mash correctly and not make it sound comical. Not dissing Ryan at all. This is just for others who feel it isn't useable if basing that assumption from this demo.
Thanks for the tutorial. The pedal didn't come with any manual so this does fill the gap :)
2290 is a rack delay unit from back in the day. Great video btw!
he should've known that. it famous.
pierre pouget tc electronic. Its not plural
lol
Like the Channel. This Video is helpful as it had become part of the purchase of 2 of these.
It's good to have a few of these pedals around. $119 2022 that ain't bad.
That pedal is cool af! So is that guitar!
Thanks man we love you Beavis and Butthead
1:53 lmao Buzzlightyear's beam cannon
That sound and massive volume change will bring your sound engineer to tears
Your Eastwood guitar looks gorgeous 😍
I own a walrus d1 and just bought one of these. 10x easier to dial in, sounds just as good and has more sounds I'll use.
Great. Now I want one.
I like the MOD setting best, happy to leave it on that
What amp were you using before you turned on the pedal? Sounded great!
Nice video I just got this pedal through the post I could not get it sounding as good as you have I will try your settings
I like this guy. Cool guitar, too!
Thanks for the demonstration 👍
you're welcome ;-)
That axe is dope. Dig...
Is that your #1 axe? It's a cool looking guitar and sounds great. I ask because I always see you do your demos with it.
excellent review. subscribed
Gah, do I want it? Do I need it? Well damn, I really do want it.
Great demo!
Thanks for a great demo of this amazing pedal! I think I need to buy one soon... It's a bit of a bummer though that it doesn't have tap tempo built in. Have you tried it with the external tap tempo switch yet?
It actually does have a tap tempo, but instead of tapping your foot you have to press and hold the switch for a couple seconds then palm mute your pick on the strings to the tempo you want then release and viola the feedback tempo is set to the speed you picked!
No. No more palm tempo like with the FB1. And its too bad. With the FB you must deactivate the mash function to get the tap tempo. Difficult choice!!l
Still awesome 👍
You hit that d chord so hard it literally sounds like a car crash
Damn thats pretty cool, i think i just found my 2nd delay.
I've watched a dozen or so videos on this pedal. None of them show it being adjusted in a way that is useful in a live band setting. Maybe if the band plays nothing but ambient instrumentals, then it could be utilized adjusted in these ways.
To me, these settings are for bedroom players looking to explore new sounds for looping and/or recording.
Why does no one highlight the capability of this pedal as a reliable, great sounding tool for the live band pedalboard that can be set to achieve sound settings that actually help express the message and feeling of a song instead of taking the listener on an outerspace experience that's interesting at first but becomes tiring after about 10 minutes of noodling?
Why does everyone set the mash switch up for effects that are of no use in most songs?
I expect this pedal IS very useful for gigging and would enjoy seeing someone who owns one demonstrate it's capabilities in that way.
@J Slikbeer The delay I use live is actually a Boss DD-3T. I have it set one way for ambience and leave it that way the whole 3 hour show. I use it on about 80% of the songs we play in our 3 piece classic rock band.
I purchased the Flashback II for my son for his pedalboard. I think it will work for him in his band. If not, he can return it for another model.
So many of these "review" videos are instead "look at me" recitals or "look at all my gear" productions instead of useful resources. Or they're created by people who reside in their bedrooms and live a cyber existance. Their musical world is a private bubble where they dabble and noodle with weird sounds and record them in long strings they call tracks. The closest thing to live performing they know is virtual collaboration on a pseudo stage via social media. They seem to have little or no live experience or knowledge of live music gear. Only home recording devices.
That's not my thing.
Music is best enjoyed live with an audience. The gear I buy is for that purpose.
Yeh I am a live player there is not much on this pedal that differs from any other delay pedal for live use. Its a toy for the bedroom. It's the same with demos for guitars the video presenter plays all this stuff on guitar which is for the bedroom and would never be used live.
That mash function sound freaked out my cat
Your cats edible probably was just kicking in
The mash setting feels rather gimmicky 99% of the time, so mines on tap timing setting. I think the coolest delays are some of the tone prints which have an expanded library now. I love the stereo Tape delay and there's one that delays back in higher frequency etc which is sweet for some lead parts.
thanks!
How do you use the Mash button without turning the pedal off?
I’ve been looking for a Boston Hyperspace Pedal substitute. This may do the trick.
I got one of these. I like it a lot. Some nice tone prints with ep3 and binson. That crystal setting I don’t get at all. Who wants that ? It sounds awful
I really need to do a follow up video on this thing.
So Ryan, if I had to choose between this pedal and the traditional EHX Canyon, which one would I prefer to gig with and why?
Nazmo King I ended up keeping the canyon and selling the flashback. Tap tempo is easier with the canyon and the mash function was a little sticky with the fb2 so it never became a thing I used regularly. I think the settings on the fb2 sound very nice but those were my reasons.
@@60CycleHumcast you can disengage the mash and get tap tempo instead on the Fb2. This is what ive done.
@@thierrygoli4271 how is that done? I've heard that it's possible to use the mash button as a tap tempo but haven't seen anything on RUclips showing how it's done.
@@oza8578 have a look at this : ruclips.net/video/FCHVsmpxYJc/видео.html
@@thierrygoli4271 thanks!
Geeeez , this guy stole Santa's shoes
I already have a Boss DD20, should I buy this?
Can u do overdubs in loop mode?
do you just switch between modes or you have to take steps like with the boss pedals?
what u see is what u get
Can someone please help me out! I bought the flashback 2 because of this video. Now i'm trying it out, exactly copying the settings in this video, but the mash button doesnt seem to work the same for me. The yellow LED keeps blinking when Mash is activated and only responds if I "wobble" the expression knob, not when I push it down. When I push it down it doesn't do anything it just turns off... Am i using this pedal wrong? I can't find any helpful info on the internet, the manual etc. Would love it if someone could reach out! Thank you
In this video the yellow LED doesn't seem to show a tempo, with mine it blinks to the tempo of the delay setting. Could that be why the mash setting does not work?
@@dedadoeYou need to go to Toneprint and edit the external tap tempo. Maybe it was set to Tap Tempo instead of Mash
Cheers!
When solo with distortion how was it's sound Like ?
it's important for gingers to use sun tan lotion
not much ginger, more like lobster
dude looks like he lives in hawaii. lucky guy!
what are tone port settings?
can you do the monster mash with it?
The mash function seems like a gimmick. I'm not sure this is the pedal for me.
Greetings Ryan and Steve! I have a flashback delay .I was wondering if either of you have loaded a TonePrint into any of these TC pedals with a noise canceling pick up in a guitar? I own a fender Strat deluxe plus. It's my favorite guitar but it's the only guitar that when I try to load a tone print using the app. It never loads. If you guys can try loading in TonePrint with one of your guitars that has noiseless pick ups. Let me know your results I appreciate it.
Does the Version 2 still have strump tap tempo function?
no
I wish that you would have shown the loop setting. I have heard a lot about loops but I never heard one before.
The mash effect is not usable. I've seen many demo videos on mash...It's ridiculous. Comical. It does not augment or add anything musical to his playing.
Jo Pa i have flashback 1 and I agree.. I’m not convinced of mash on flashback or the new “crystal” settings. Although, you have to check out Hall of Fame 2! The mash control can really make amazing sounds that can add depth to your tone.
The whole thing is not usable..... it is going back.
Almost got a Boss RV-3, but got this instead.
that last mode sounded like an early pink floyd song. i cant recall the name.
The mash on tape setting is about as unmusical as rocks in a drier. No I take that back. Rocks in a drier is more musical. lol
I love TCE stuff, but agree that was an awful example.
Yeah I could do without the mash on ramping up and down the sound, but the mash on the reverse mode is cool, other than that the pedal is awesome
I'LL STICK TO FB1
get a power supply this awesome device eats batteries like hash brownies
thats typical of delay pedals
Flashback 2 or Digitech Obscured Delay? hmm.
I would say this one for the different delay types. plus reverse is nice. I have heard good things about the digitech stuff though, was curious about it for a while
change that, this one, the obscure is more or less just the tape/analog one, which is nice and warm, but it is good to have a crisp, pure delay replicator on hand as well. this one has a clearer signal
pleaseeee I wanna know if your subdivision switch works fine.... because mine do the same thin in the first 2 positions..... HEEEEEEEEEEEELP, thankyou
Nice guitar, weird pedal. Like any of them, some are cool, others are just too weird to even bother trying to find a use for it. Playing the pedal as an instrument unto itself. As creative as it allows the musician to be, it can ruin a track/recording with the wrong "Mash" level of effort & application with a really weird & strange sound effect. Ambient music pedal and you really need to have a good handle on what it's trying to do in each setting & with every Mash.
You have to many adds on before your video. So I didn't warch it.
Presets are stored in the balls.
Torn so much between this and the Canyon, can anyone tell me what settings let you tap tempo passed 800ms? Read somewhere that one or two of the analog settings don't allow you :(
Toneprint can get you an analog that long with tap tempo friend, most analog delays were that short but you can find long ones in the toneprint app that sound incredible. Bright analog delay is my favorite setting in the entire pedal and it's a "generic" toneprint. Seriously, check it out. Solos? Phenomenal for them. U2 like dotted eighth? Gotcha. Phenomenal stuff
супер. хочу такой)
That tape setting sounds barely anything like tape...all just sounds a bit plastic and digital.
no tap tempo built in? that sucks.
Iggytommy you can use the stereo in as a tap tempo jack for external tap. Not perfect, but still a nice option.
i know. still no tap tempo.
Yeah but it would need another switch for that. It's a pretty good compromise.
i know what you're saying. removing tap tempo from the updated version is a downgrade in that respect though, and tap tempo is kind of expected on a digital delay pedal nowadays.
I think it's an upgrade, cause the onboard tap tempo was basically useless since I had to hold it down to access it.
his face was funny when he was leaning on the mash button
my face is usually funny.
i hadn't noticed.
p.s. are you steve?
Nah, that's Ryan. I'm the other guy in the lemon video. - steve
i'm confused
mash potato
MASH is annoying
Plz stop mashing its awfull.
is this a joke???seriously that mash sound is the dumbest thing i've heard since Burger King said you now have to ask for napkins and ketchup now in the drive-thru..
who even eats at burger king?
Crap
