Another fab video Vince. I recently bought a Rechargeable fan from Amazon and it turned up broken. Amazon refunded me for the price of the fan and told me to dispose of the damaged product. For the first time after watching your videos for years, I decided to take the fan apart, fault find with a multimeter and desoldered a faulty capacitor. Found the replacement part on eBay, put everything back together and it now works an absolute treat. Thanks for showing us all that we can recycle things and do our part to reduce electrical waste! :)

VFD. I bought a 1974 Casio with VFD 2 weeks ago from a car boot sale for 3 euros. All it had was some corrosion on the battery contacts. Quick clean and works fine. Though the power switch may need a slight clean too.

I knew you’d be able to fix it easily. I did think it would be the switch due to its location next to the battery compartment, but I haven’t got a clue about soldering etc, so I thought I’d send it to the only man I know who does. Great fix and looking forward too some more in the future. Gordon 😊

Tell ya what Hev, those light up digits are far better than the cheaply build calculators I've ever used since the 90s.

Cheers Emma, I used to see it on telephone cables. Rain would travel in through a damaged cable and run along the inside of the cable (even travel vertically), and end up causing damage to the junction box inside the property. It can travel surprising far. I will get practicing my signature 🤣

45 years ago, these devices were invaluable for students. Although, I suspect they were looked down upon by most maths teachers as it was standard practice to show your, 'working out', rather than to rely on a machine to do it all for you. Of course, it was only the more well-to-do students who had access to such devices, anyway, as they weren't exactly cheap when they first came out.

  • @ijabbott63

Nice, simple fix! The calculator would look better without the horrible, shiny sticker though. I'm guessing some company bought a load of these calculators for its employees and put their own sticker on it.

I had a brand new larger Casio model 'fx 100' in the early 80ies which looks like its bigger brother which served me brilliant in maths German grammar school years 8 - 10. Maybe I am wrong? For the nerds to confirm pls that it is a vintage year '1975'. Tyvm!!!

Hmm varta now that is a brand that is hated by the retro computing communities for leaking cmos batteries that destroyed so many boards from the late 80s through out the 90s. They love to explode inside vintage macs and in PCs of the time they slow leak eating away at everything that comes into contact often eating traces while seeping between the layers of the pcbs.
