This is why I never talk to the clowns I see in the sewer drains.
The w h a t ?
Yeah same. They're a waste of valuable time.
Exactly
Yeah especially the ones in our school yard stranger danger!
Same here...every other cple months there's one by house......always smiling and waving....... 🤡 👿 😨
Notice how he takes perverse pleasure in that innocent question asked by Georgie about whether the balloons float? It's because he knows that he has caused the kid to let down his guard this is probably the same way that child predators feel when they convince a child to go somewhere with them after promising to give them candy or some other treat, truly unsettling.
Very good acting.
Our food has unsanitary things done to it everyday if we shop public
I still shop. Some guy probably rubbed his balls on my serranos just to get a burning sensation.
That's a good point.
Tim Curry The Best IT not even close
"So now we know each other." The way he delivers that line always creeped me out as a kid and still does. It sounds sinister and not human like
Keeeerect?!
I thought it was just me, but yes, his vocal delivery of that line does sound off. Like a mix of evil and an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon
@@iamdonnietae Exactly lol
Yeah, it's creepy.... and it's also creepy to think that that's probably how he lures children.. by gaining their trust
All I hear is Tim Curry. Not very scary.
"Very wise of your dad, Georgie." this line does a lot. New Pennywise is great but definitely acts like an alien putting on an act, very odd and thoroughly frightening. But this Pennywise being familiar with stranger danger, and taking on the roll of a fellow adult, appearing trustworthy to a child adds to his sinister nature in a subtle way, I think. Much more believable that a child would trust this version, makes it scarier in that aspect.
Very “Pennywise” of your dad Georgie get it?
@@randomedits5114 ha
@@BlueJester99 lol
Very wise, indeed.
It is not an alien but a demon, a spiritual being.
Tim Curry was phenomenal. There’s a menacing hoarseness to his voice that can’t be replicated.
💯
That’s from smoking cigarettes
Nice last name. 😁
Bill Skarsgard was better
@@CC-xl9ow I don't really think so, but whatever...
The pennywise actor exactly knows how to potray a clown who tries to get children to trust him. And thats why i love the scene
With the mannerism akin of those of a straight-up child predator.
a little too suspicious on how accurate the actor is 🤔🤔
@@Pluhpluh0 tim curry is a good actor
Not just good, outstanding!
It worked on me!
-Sewer Guy
I love Bill Skarsgard but I loved how Tim Curry’s version has a lot of charisma. He acts like a trustworthy adult like a lot of real life child predators do. It makes it more believable that children would be lured in by him. Bill definitely nailed the childlike and alien qualities of Pennywise though.
Yeah i think this 1990 version gives more psychopath in a clown costume vibes and the remake gives demon clown vibes
exactly...@@Mrmonkey12263
This is why I find this version scarier
This version of this scene is infinitely creepier than the remake. Here he looks like an uncaught serial killer on the loose for decades, not some wacky alien.
He's suppose to be something you can't relate to while simultaneously trying to be relatable to your worse fear. Pennywise the dancing clown is just his most horrifically popular form.
@@seedking40I'm afraid of very real concepts, not clowns
Like a wise man said: “in the original it is suggested that I rip off his arm, in the remake suggested my balls”. I thing its way better in the new one
Yeah, a serial killer with magic powers 😂
but... its supposed to be a whacky alien not a human serial killer. the creature literally comes from space LOL
The excitement he gets when he tells Georgie "exactly" 😂
😆😆😆😆😆😆
It's ironic that in Home Alone 2, Tim Curry gets scared away *by a clown* 😆
Lol
In a shower no less!
There is something that makes the 1990 Pennywise best-quality.
I find him far creepier than the newer version, though I can't say why
because its a clown, not monsterman in makeup trying to act scary
OG Pennywise was always creepier
@Anastasia's Secret True
I haven't seen the new one yet. Only clips online. I do find Bill to be terrifying. But, so much of his character in that movie seems to be in CGI form when he's moving especially....based on what I have seen in clips.
So, when I see people comparing the two, it's more a matter of comparing the character creation..... make up wise, special effects wise, and then, of course, the better actor portraying Pennywise. I think the newer Pennywise, as a whole, character creation, is scarier, personally.
But, Tim Curry is just a joy to watch. No, he's not as demonic as Bill's character. But, his entire portrayal was mostly him in costume, rather than CGI. And I thought he added a flavor to Pennywise, that actually made him creepier than the newer version.....because of the human qualities he gave.
It's like comparing werewolf movies where you have an actual older school werewolf in costume, in make up, or animatronics, compared to CGI werewolves. It's apples to oranges.
This was a made for TV movie, in 1990, when CGI was still, for the most part, in its infancy, and the budget was so much smaller than the 2017 version. And yet, I find they did so much more with this film. Plus I love the creepy music in this film. Tim Curry nailed it for me. So, I agree with the OP at least for me.
2:11 The moment Pennywise completely drops the act is horrifying
Wish he just instantly attacked like the dominant newer one
@@putalover4519 In the newer one IT didn't instantly attack though, IT took the time to lure Georgie in, make him lower his guard THEN attacked. Just like in this one.
Where were the parents?
@@Lesamnesia It wouldn’t of mattered, they can’t see IT if they don’t believe.
Why didn't Georgie put his arm back out
The thing I liked about tim curry’s pennywise is that he came across as more human, bill’s pennywise just acted weird and strange someone you can’t trust just by looking at him. Meanwhile Tim’s pennywise acts more natural and human like, something that a kid wouldn’t be very creeped out over as much which would in return help him lure in more children to eat
both versions require a huge amount of suspension of disbelief to watch a kid talk to a clown in a sewer
Bills is more accurate to the book, pennywise is always described as looking not quite right and never fully human looking
@@ZetsuboNoShima Not in George's stroy. In that scene the clown looks very ordinary. As far as a clown in the gutter can be. King writes indeed that it's hard to believe, and George couldn't trust his eyes if he was 7, but he was only 6.
Uh wrong, not sure if you read the book but I did and the book describes pennywise looking like "a cross between bozo the clown and Ronald mcdonald" The Curry version is much closer to that, creepy but realistic, the new version no kid would go near.
Pennywise is not a clown it’s a being that can be multiple things
I love his bloodshot eyes. It's a good touch to the rest of his costume.
Curry hated the costume. It took an hour for the crew to get him ready and all of the chemicals for removing and putting on make up made his eyes feel like he constantly had sand in them. He collected himself for the acting, great professional that he is, but he loathed the role.
@@Seki1987Let’s not forget to mention that he has a severe fear of clowns, so they had to make sure there is no mirror around him.
The 1990’s version had a John Wayne Gacy Vibe. Therefore it felt more real. Like this happens all the time.
Wow!!
Way creepier than remake.
I'm nearly sure Wayne Gacy inspired Stephen King somehow with the killer clown aspect of children.
2017 one >
@@Jay-bi8vz King actually bought a lot of artwork that Gacy did in prison. Sorta creepy and macabre if you ask me. Personally I wouldn't want any of Gacy's works hanging in my house. Then again we're talking about Stephen King. LOL
Tim Curry's eyes are so perfect for this role
Say what you will about the 1990 version of IT, but you've gotta admit, this scene is genuinely chilling. It's incredible how Tim Curry acts like a good friend so convincingly here. Especially the "Very wise of your dad Georige very wise indeed." bit. It's so crazy how well Pennywise plays the part of the friend here, even agreeing with Georgie's dad's warning to not take stuff from strangers. It's incredible.
The way he delivered "You'll float too!" Is amazing.
"Do you want your boat georgie?”
*No*

This version is more convincing than in the remake. In the remake he already looks like some kind of monster acting creepy during the whole encounter. This version has more of a natural and real life essence of how adults, especially pedophiles, come off as nice and trusting to kids and then trick them right into their clutches. I like this original version better but the remake actually follows the book more closely, that I'll give props to the remake for
No, the Remake Version is better. Bill Skarsgård nailed it! Pennywise is Bill Skarsgård. But the old Version is too very good but not as good as the new one, because of Bill.

The original was limited in scope and terror due to being a primetime TV miniseries. Even so, they nailed it with the casting, especially of Tim Curry. It would have been interesting to see how it turned out if it was a full-fledged rated R movie with the same actors and director.
The TV miniseries would've been longer but the budget prevented more of the book and filming from happening.
@@thedarkknight1357
Originally it was meant to be a 10-parter directed by George Romero, I love this Mini-series, I really do, but imagine how good that would have been!
I thought the new films were decent, but despite not sticking to the book as closely, there’s something about this version that makes it my favourite. Probably because it was the first Horror film I ever saw but we’ll overlook that 😂
There was a deleted scene where the fire department finds Georgie's corpse and brings it to his parents
2:02-2:09 The way pennywise delivered those lines along with the facial expression on his face really frightened me.

@@a1den_76 I'm kinda turned on by the 2017 version, Bill Skarsgård is hot AF, but the 1990 version creeps me out
When Georgie tells pennywise that his father says he can't take stuff from strangers Pennywise looked so annoyed lol
Reading it in the novel was even more hair-raising. Tim Curry's portrayal as Pennywise in the 90s series is iconic and the actor certainly brought his own humorous yet veiled chilling presence to the part which I still remember to this day. Still, I do have to give praise to Bill Skarsgard's performance in the Chapter 1 & 2 films. The taunting yet unnerving tone he brought to the role was something special all its own and I respect him for playing the character in the manner he did (no actor should copy another's portrayal). The series and Part 1 both still kept to the impending dread and predatory theme of this scene from the text while the cinematography is different, the tone is very much the same as we all want Georgie to just run away and not fall for IT's deceptive lure.
I like when Skarsgard has an extended pause and stare after laughing manically and the salivation is a great visual touch.

I like how in this version the sun was shining while it was raining. I don't know if they meant to do that, but it worked. Very dark scene though
It was because back then they didn't have the editing technology to change the lighting like they do now. They used a rain machine and just put a grey filter on the camera
@@zachhatten261 It definitely worked though.
I think it's interesting cause around Georgie the sun is shining and its bright and symbolises his purity but around Pennywise is complete darkness which is symbolic to Pennywise maliciousness

Don't get me wrong..
I love the 2017 It remake..
Especially because the miniseries hasn't aged very well.
But this will always be the best version of Pennywise for me.
Skargsgard was great, but Tim Curry absolutely nailed the character.
Idk a lot of people love the original version but yea I like the remake better.
Yeah he did a great job. I also think the remake was good, and more creepy. But just this scene is much better lines in the original. Not sure why they removed these lines from the remake.
I honestly think both versions have their strengths and weaknesses. The 1990 version is highlighted by Curry's awesome performance, but brought down by some dated cheese. The 2017 had a far creepier and menacing atmosphere, but Skarsgard is much more alien and not quite as charismatic as Curry. To its benefit 2017 Penny comes off much more like an Eldritch abomination.
"I gotta go-"
*_"GO?!!"_*
😳😳😳
Right? Lol, Pennywise wasn't about to let that happen.
this it very realistic. the sewer size is more accurate than the 2017 version.
This was the only horror movie that genuinely terrified me as a child. It was so creepy when I was young. Tim Curry will always be the true Pennywise for me.
😂 Halloween 🎃 memories
If this scares you, I don’t know what doesn’t 💀
The new IT has pennywise having a whole conversation with Georgie
I find George's death way sadder in the original compared to the new one.
To me the Georgie in the remake Death was sadder because he calls out for his brother while getting dragged in the sewer😢
That’s because they leave a lot of his death to imagination
Rather than actually seeing the long arm reach out and grab Georgie.
Tim curry made the character work because it’s him.
Perfect casting and can’t be rivalled
You actually see him die in the remake though, which tugged at my heart strings far more
I love this Pennywise a whole lot more than I Do the Remake, this Pennywise seems much more Human Like at first, looks and acts like what most young kids like Georgie could see as a normal clown, the remake Pennywise is and looks Too malicious from the Get-go. Idk just my Opinion
I love the conversation here it shows how pennywise is playing on emotions and saying things like they are friends like kiddo and buko and offers him stuff too kinda sweet if he didnt get all creepy about it

Most disturbing line of the movie
I didn't like those storm drains for years after I seen this
It's scary af how he doesn't have to be that convincing, he knows Georgies taking what he says at face value plus he could have killed him doubt he needed Georgie to reach into the sewer. IT was enjoying it.
Tim Curry is an icon no one can beat him.His roles are iconic.
Well i first watched him as a pirate in a field of corn.
I was a child, when saw this film for the first time. There were few quiet scary moments with the Pennywise.
Sure the new one has modern special effects but this 1990 version is still creepy, Tim Curry's acting is top notch. It is amazing that he manages to act both cuddly and menacing at the same time.
Tim Curry’s performance carried the entire movie. I prefer this type of horror film compared to modern ones. “Horror” films these days tend to rely on brutality and gore to make it scary
This movie was genuinely terrifying
The face paint was irritating Tim Curry's eyes in this scene, but you couldn't tell he was in any kind of discomfort. He's that good. A true professional.
Spooky

What I’ve always found so creepy about Tim’s portrayal is how very much it’s like how a child predator, like a John Wayne Gacy type, would’ve interacted with their victims, using humour and partial truths/empathy to lure them in.
The original Pennywise was John Wayne Gacy. Stephen King wrote this book AFTER Gacy was arrested and that says it all.
