  • In this video, I turned a crushgrind peppermill into a unique shape after discovering cracks on both ends of my applewood blank. I love the crushgrind pepper grinder mechanisms and have been turning a number of these mills in preparation for the holiday shopping season. Once you have all the tools in place and the process down it takes under an hour to turn one of these mills from start to finish.
I had a number of pieces of applewood that had been sitting around the shop since last winter. Applewood is notoriously prone to checking so I had broken these blanks down into peppermill-sized chunks in the hope that they would dry evenly.
Unfortunately, once I started turning this blank, I discovered it had checks on both ends. This led to some creative turning and shaping to save the mill from the scrap heap.
    Thanks for watching!
