When I have made tall mills I have always drilled the blank on a table made for the lathe bed with the Jacob chuck in the head stock. The body is then turned about the hole centres. You are right when you say the drilling is the most difficult part of the job. The traditional Italian style mill with beads and coves lends itself very nicely to be made in a numbers of individual sections that can even be drilled on the drill press and all the joints disguise by the final shape.

    Hi Jon...
    Very entertaining...
It reminds me of some restaurant comedy sketches from the 1970's where some some Italian waiter is trying to impress the ladies... Haha...
I did like your tap inspired mill...
    Take care...All the best.....Andy

Nice one. I've seen long ones like that in Italian restaurants. 🙂

1st. Hi Jon, That is NOT ridiculous it is BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
I can actually see a market for a Pepper Grinder.
Restaurants tend to have large Pepper Grinders when they come to the table asking if you want pepper, especially Italian Restaurants.
This is my favourite video I have seen from you.
I would have to do it in sections as my lathe only has a 28" bed length.
    Absolutely brilliant Jon.
    Take care.
    Cheers, Huw

I think it's a Dakota (not sure if they are still branded as that) I think it is a generic bit of kit and it's fine but calling the tubing flexible is a bit of a joke - it is the most inflexible stuff ever. Domestic manufacturers can make flexible hose, these commercial sized bits are pretty hopeless in my experience!
