    Leeech was originally a Green River song. The version on Singles 1-12 is from a BBC session, released w/o permission/licensing, thus the ambiguous liner notes. Same with "Way of the World" and "Theme", both from the same BBC session (1991 i think).

      Thanks ! I completely forgot about the BBC session and also Green River having written Leech. Must be Lori on that stuff then, as I suspected. I wasn't at the BBC session but I remember seeing them in London at the beginning of the 91 tour. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you for the backstory on Theresa screams! A personal favorite, one of the funniest things ever put to tape. "I'll piss you off." So many great lines in this. "Let's record it this time, shall we?" Gets me every time.

    Thank you for these…I always liked how clean your tone was compared to the other Melvins bassists

    Thank you for doing these videos, Mark. I really love the back stories on music that moved me in the 90's. I would love some Clown Alley stories if you ever are looking for content ideas in the future. "The Lie" is on the "Top 5 Greatest Thrash Songs Ever" list for me.

      Thanks ! There are definitely a few strange Clown Alley stories.. I'll get to some of them eventually. Thanks for watching.

    As I understand it, the Fan Club was started by Dale Crover and Pete Graham (Seattle). The first newsletter was sent out in the spring of 1993. Issue 5 was called Pissing in the Wind and was issued 1996. Dale also had his own newsletter called 'Drumb', dated 1994. Fan Club bundles included a VHS with seven songs on it (which you can see on RUclips), newsletters, stickers, flyers and other bits and pieces. A Melvins golf tee comes to mind. I have most of this stuff if you need any more info. I assume The Singles Club was an Amphetamine Reptile thing instigated by Tom Hazelmyer. Your videos are fantastic. Never stop.

      Thank you ! I can always rely on super fans for the correct info...so much stuff was getting cranked out that it was hard to keep track. I appreciate you being here.

      Yeah one of my oldest friends who introduced me to the Melvins has a Dale Crover 7” called “Drumb”. Was this in anyway apart of the newsletter of the same name/fan club? It had sleeve art by Kozik & was released on Man’s Ruin.

      @@wormskull2454 There are two years between the newsletter and the release of the single so I don't see a connection there.

    Hi Mark. I love the videos. I saw you open at the Sacramento Rush concert! I always wondered about the cowboy hat. You guys rocked the house that night. You are an awesome bass player and musician. You should write a book on the punk scene you talk about.

      LOL I don't think many albums had their opening song mixed like that!
      First couple special A and R mixes had to have the guy saying "eh, fellas I'm just not hearing a hit single with this um, Pigtro bit here..." By the 3rd or 4th tape he must have come to terms with "Ok, these guys are just messing with me at this point."

    Maaaaan GGIIBBYY is one of my favorite Melvins songs! The liner notes simply read “A bad song we chopped off Houdini.”
    I never knew why they felt it wasn’t up to par with the rest of Houdini to make the cut, but hey bands understandably feel differently about their owns songs than their fans do so, who am I to question it? That’s the way of the world….

      Some things will just have to remain a mystery, like the Chupacabra, Marfa Lights, etc...

    Help me with this somebody. Was there a compilation that included "Lexicon Devil" and the MC5's "Rocket Reducer No. 62." Or was it a single Side A/Side B. Maybe it was recorded during the "Houdini" sessions. Whatever the case, I can't find the CD.

      @MarkDeutrom  2 месяца назад

      I think it's on of the 45s from the singles club as mentioned in the video. It is also on the CD compilation of these. Not sure if there has been a reissue or not.

    Leech is one of my favorite Melvins songs. It was originally written by another great band from Seattle, Green River. I've never heard the later single version referenced here as I tend to listen to more of their earlier stuff. I'll give it a listen. It seems like Melvins have recorded Leech so many times I lose count. Each time, they kill it.

    • @MarkDeutrom
      @MarkDeutrom  6 месяцев назад

      Definitely played that one a lot over the years with them. Always a crowd pleaser, and also a way of honoring the very early roots of the whole Seattle thing.

    We won tickets to go see RATT at the Warfield when KUSF played "In the Rain" and had a contest to see who knew who it was. Our bass player called in and won. RATT were terrible.

      That is hilarious ! On a side note the drummer who played on my LP The Silent Treatment played in a band in the 90's that toured with Ratt opening up for them...maybe it was the same tour....and yes, Ratt are terrible.

      Definitely more surf to me upon my relistening after all this time.Yet another "in" joke that has nothing to do with the alleged intention ! Not sure about that the scream...I will be doing a Honky breakdown eventually, so I will report back. Thanks for watching.

      Haven't listened to Honky in so long I completely forgot ! You fans are a wealth of obscure knowledge and should collectively write a book.
