O'sensei demonstrates the defeating of an enemy with a scream in it's true spirit. It is a sight to behold to watch an 80 yr old man scream at an attacking opponent armed with a live sword fall back.

There's actually a wonderful documentary called going ape that talks about various aspects and connections to our chimp cousins and ourselves. In one episode, they found that people who whoop and raise their arms actually increased their testosterone and ultimately they were able to jump from a great height with little fear. This same episode showed how a strong, loud but low word will literally change a person's direction.

I have used this technique to avoid a fight that I could assuredly have won physically. The Kiei scream displays inner strength. The wise opponent decided not to fight because of it. Wise move to avoid conflict, even when victory is almost guaranteed anyhow. Thank you.

It's funny that many say he is real, while bashing Masaaki Hatsumi, who is the Soke of the Bujinkan, which incorporates nine schools. Meanwhile, the training is very similar, although this instructor eludes to "mysticism" as a practical tool of combat. I highly suggest you do not attempt that in an actual fight, but hey, you do what you practice! A lot of people just do not get the training versus reality concept. Training is to teach you options for combat, not one set technique! Not downgrading this guy or the Bujinkan schools, but it is incorrect to call him the "last" ninja, hundreds of thousands have been trained around the world through different Japanese schools, and while most are not and will not truly ever be actual ninja, others have trained in the art for decades and have attained the necessary skills to claim the title.

Ypu do know the bijinken is 95 percent samurai school as 8 of the schools are samurai and 1 is ninjutsu and almost nothing gets taught from that school to 90 percent of the bujinken group

I've loved the lessons so far but this no contact technique seems dubious to me. Is this intended as a bare handed technique or something to do when you have a weapon?

Talking about the kiai's towards the end of the video? When you ignore the more spiritual aspects of the kiai training, in this instance what you basically have is a loud shout used to catch the opponent off guard. You've got your opponent closing in on you, ready to strike, when at the last second you step forward and shout. Depending on how fast and how forceful your opponent is coming at you, the sudden shout might startle them enough for them lose balance when they try to stop their forward momentum. At the very least, the shout should keep the opponent on their toes. But yeah, it does look kind of silly the way they are approaching it.

it's a last ditch effort, you are faced with a swordsman while you are unarmed, be ready to kill or injure your enemy even if probably means you will die, this might scare him or make him hesitate seeing your resolve and confidence if he is unaccustomed tofighting or some peculiarity of his psyche
don't go down without a fight, never surrender
(at least I think this it

This is "energy" (blood and air) envigoration, not combat training. The kiai and the hand postures are based on shinto spirituality, which is also related to Taoism.

This idea is about pshycology ...we use this idea in Bujinkan in order to get a reaction from the oponnant. It's a bit like when you feint an attack to someone's head and they recoil backwards to avoid the strike. Like in boxing or Jeet kun do , karate etc in order to create distraction an opening or an advantage oppertunity to strike or escape...timing is important. But I must emphasise this is not in no way about knocking your opponent physically in any way. Ninja practice deception concealment keeping the enemy guessing etc....

Hello Master . the ninja art only has space in any one initiated by the fight with use for self-protection. with a high level of struggle and improvement, with extreme physical development in a correct way so that there are not countless injuries obviously, so choose the right people, so as not to get lost, young and with the intention of putting ninjutsu as a form of self defense, everything it fits as long as it is truly right.
