In today's video we get the work on the new project, the Audi S3 8V, I bought this a few months ago with a damaged engine, lets find out the problem! Авто/Мото
I can't get over the amount of spider webs , thought they were the fake Halloween decoration type at first because of the way they looked.
Yeah they look like they are from some game!
Lol
Laying in the snow like a champ 💪 looking forward to seeing more on the S3!
Loving these in depth videos. It's one thing changing suspension or broken body panels but engine diagnostics is what will earn willing driveway mechanics a pretty penny
I am so impressed that you’re doing this considering the freezing temps….respect!
Appreciate the effort put in to bring us a video in those conditions!
Looking forward to this build. I’m keen to learn more about these cars as they’re plentiful here in Australia. Good luck with the repairs.
Nice! Glad to see you working on A3s and the 8V is my favorite. Also working on the EA888 is relevant to many viewers and showing the techy bits as well. Please more of this!
11:43 doesn't he mean IS38?
Can't believe you took that apart in the current Baltic temperatures 😁 Brought back memories of working on old Fords on my driveway in the winter. Takes its toll on your body for sure, it's hard work 💪🏻
I did the head gasket on my wifes mk1 fiesta in worse weather, about 10 minutes spanner time then inside to warm up for 15 minutes 😂
It’s easy if you warm up well with some vodka
@@jacobjakub474 Polish Vodka !
Frozen Boll--s now that is what I call dedication to the channel. I felt guilty sitting in my warm chair with my iPad watching you freeze to diag the Audi thanks for your brilliant work as usual. Tom
Great video and a lot people don't realise that salvage is not cheap but after the car is fixed it can save the next owner a few quid
I've a 18 plate FL and love it, cant wait to see what you do with this one :)
You are hardcore for working with metal in such cold temperatures! I think that price is worth it given your skills and talent.
Admire your have a go at anything attitude. great content Thanks
Another good one as always looking forward to the next M2 update.
Love your dedication to do this in -4 c ! Reminds me of when I was younger !
The magnetic Cam sensors (the two you removed) usually just cause hunting and erratic idle. That noise sounds like the rods to be honest, but I hope its not that bad for you
Great channel matt . I'm no mechanic but love your upbeat views. Merry Christmas 🎅 don't eat too much . Best regards to all your subscribers
😂😂😂😂😂😂 quality..Matt Armstrong trolling
thank you Dean another interesting project to follow,,👍👍
Great vid Dean, thought it was a bit pricey though, sounded a bit like valve trouble ?, Really enjoying the cars at the mo, top stuff, looking toward to the next one, well done mate.
just started watch your videos, going to binge watch everything. I’ve already learnt so much :)
Sounds like a broken cam follower. Came across a few of those when I worked at VW. Keep up the great work 👍
Btw ive got the head and turbo and a few other bits from the old engine lying about if any good, in the process of getting the old block back so maybe have that available to u aswell
Love to see you do an electric car battery upgrade .. hope that A3 engine isn’t too bad good luck
Love your videos. Will be interesting to follow this project!
That engine is in so many models across vag group, you'd think they'd want it super reliable. I had an 07 a3 with the 200 hp version of it and I must say, it was a great unit. I'm sure mine was a timing belt though. I wonder if a belt is better than a chain with these 300 hp units?
another one, yes another one, love this channel always coming with new stuff
You'll know about when you get a bit older Dean working outside and scrambling on the ice cold floor matey, get it in the garage and some heat on. Having said that your definitely not phased by the cars you buy and the problem they might have.
All the best for Christmas and the New Year to you and you family.
Even the spiders have gone inside. You are a hero working outside its frigging freezing
12:19 Don't forget to mention the 1.8 TSI Golf Mk6 of the year 09/10. It is a special edition with EA888 as well.
Good video as always.keep on doing what your doing.kudos 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Braver man than me fixing cars in that temperature looking forward to some good vag engine content , excellent Channell 👍
It goes to show how dedicated you are to the Chanel
Working and videoing in this weather 🥶🥶👍
Best of luck. And jezz fair play working outside in this North Pole weather. A true soldier be good to see it running nice motor 👌
I have a Leon 1.8, which is EA888, and I had to replace my chain at about 18000 miles, due to start up rattle. Upon inspection, the tensioner was past it's max. Supposedly that era of chain was not a long lasting batch [stop-start probably didn't help the life - I am second owner].
How did you find motivation to start there in that condition ? 😅. Im even struggle to start projects in my heated garage. Anyway, love your videos, and looking forward to see more of this S3 👍
Engine is fkd a lot of work someones already decided it wasn't worth there wile fixing, but you seem to be well up for the work and you always do excellent work god bless you brother thanks for the upload
I was going to say it’s a £17k car fixed. Daughters partner has got exactly the same year and spec, I think it’s a great car. £11k is about on the money. I’m amazed at how these S3’s retain their value, but when you consider the spec and tuning potential you start to see why.
Looking forward to this one as an S3 owner. I’ve had nothing but issues with mine 😂
Nice video! Would be interesting if you could work on a modern Volvo, maybe a V90 😊
I have a TTs with same engine. So interested in how this goes!
Great price, you’re the man👍
Brings back memories of fixing Old Ford’s and BL crap in the late 70’s and 80’s in the winter! Severe spanner rash! Nice motor, nasty noise, something definitely clattering! My guess on how much £9k?
Would love to see some more cars finished (m2, TVR etc)
Love the frosty spiderwebs...
Feel for you pal, freezing cold tools don't help in that weather, they need to make heated latex gloves!!
Love the car!
I think you you done well on the price .i bought the same engine second hand for £1300 so i think you will earn well feom that .. good episode dean
Missing the cold UK weather. Currently in a hot humid country. Nice build dean... Nice to see european turbo car builds. The japanese cars are getting out of reach at the moment.
Looks nice, with the known noise issue would assume you paid somewhere close to 10k as I think these fetch 15k+ in decent nick...
Go and buy yourself one of those £150 diesel heaters you will not regret it go for the 8 kW one very good on diesel and you can burn your old engine oil but don’t tell anyone😉
I read that the government have stopped the sale of Red Deisel for people running generators etc which if true is a bummer for workshop heating.
Coolants empty mate.. Known fault on these too lol. Loving the channel, smashing it as always, keep it up!!
You're quickly becoming my favourite car channel👍
This looks like a interesting series, you'll only know if you paid too much for it when you've repaired it!
The ea888 gen 3 isn’t really known for chain issues. Im guessing its been thrashed
you are certainly hard core working outside in them temperatures 🥶🥶🥶
Dean..you brought back memories of my Dad fitting new big end bearings to our 1954 Morris Oxford in the snows of the winter of 1963!! Another epic journey then..how do you keep up the enthusiasm?? Price?….I would have thought £6/7000 would be brave because a dealer would charge a bunch to do what you are planning. I’m no Audi expert but that noise sounded like camshaft or big end bearing failure…bad news to most but not to you I suspect!! Happy Christmas but don’t stay out in that garage!! 😀😀😀😀
Wow brave man lol I changed 2 bulbs outside and my fingers nearly fell off 🤣
I thought you paid around £10k for the S3, wasn't far off. Hats off to you for working in that weather lol
So much want for this being a 5 door 😍
Bloody hell fella don't know how you were stripping it down in the cold weather, my hands freeze up walking my dog lol I'm 60 years old like and on blood thinners lol, fingers crossed it's not really bad dean good luck
That sponsor transition was mint
I thought so too 😂🙅🏼♂️
@@SavingSalvage the transistion was brilliant
Is the sunroof in tilt position on the golf7?
Love the content bud
Cheers from🇿🇦
Sounds very ‘bottom End’ Dean, possible oil issue has trashed a big end, that knock right in time with the motor firing. Good luck can’t wait to see the strip down, you do know how to pick them matey don’t you !
My daughter has got a A3 2006 we paid £1400 pounds for it she had to have a new battery now, the engine management lights on the side of the globe, plugs, map, sensors, or the glow plug relay so when all the snow is gone and she’s not at work I’ve got a relay tester so tester really for anything else. Hopefully it’s good then I think it’s the map sensor on the big pipes, there’s two of them so hopefully you’ll be one of them
Hi mate, highly doubt you'll see this but worth a shot. When I get back to England next year I'm going to dive head first into buying and selling. My question is, what do you do about insurance and tax for all your vehicles? Do you have to be a licensed company to get fleet insurance/ trade plates?
I have a fantastic log burner in my workshop warehouse I have 2 fans that blow across it it's great 😎❤️👍🇬🇧
Working in that weather, you’re bonkers
Commenting supporting the channel
get a diesel heater for the garage, it'll keep you toasty warm in there, cheap! I've rigged one up for my house
Car roulette 5k room seems a bit low but best of luck ma friend
The car's front looks kind of interesting with the spider webs lol!!
I suppose it’s all about how much you finally spend on it and the time you put in to it Dean, but you never seem to leave much meat on the bone for yourself, I’d like to see you get good profit out of some cars it’s not all about content, we get it for free, it’s you who needs profit out the content
I’m reckon them vvt solenoids knacked timing stuck in over advanced ….??
Can't you like buy a heated bodywarmer when you work in the shop? You have some that just use a battery bank.
Me thinks...Cam bridge...that little port screen comes out and blocks oil flow...it starves the intake cam and you will hear that awful sound. I just had this issue on my gen 1 ea888. Replace it with an Audi part. Remove the screen in the new one before installing.
But whats wrong with it; if its cam chain /timing issues then could be a big job. The knocking could be valves, is it a interference engine? If no misfire then what about the dual mass flywheel failure maybe. I would not run it at all until i look at the valves. You may not have paid to much ----- but it depends on how many hours you have to invest in the repair .
I’d love to know how I can obtain a copy of the tech docs app you show on your laptop @14:28 !!!
The Ad transition was class 😂
Another bit of top quality Geeeerman engineering…….Audi..”always under diagnostic inspection”. 😂
Cheers, I will use that!
Having bought one in literwlly the same condition interesting to see this, ended up changing my enginw but still got my old one lying around and tbh the old one looked pretty good, turned out to be a bad oil solenoid giving bad oil pressure but unfortunately didmt figure that out till i changed the engine, changed the crankshaft sensor aswell as i had the sam crankshaft and camshaft codes. Had a horribke knock when i furst started it when i got it so assumed it was rod knock but after giving it to the garage and they stripped it down and sent me videos the engine didnt actually look to bad , bjt recon the mechanic i gave it to just wsnted the extra money and less work so he pushed me to change the engine and true i had sent the car off 3 hours away and they ha dit for about 6 months i gor irritated and went off on them but ultimately changed the engine to save headache and time, but i recon the engine i had was fine and it was just bad oil solenoid but havnt been able to het the old block from the mechanic, leading me to think it wasnt a knackered engine, and fyi my engine was exactly rhe same sounding when i started it, just some insight that might be helpful to you 👍
That is really an informative comment. This sounds promising, hopefully he sees it. Even if the rod bearing are a bit knackered, or even pretty rough, they could be changed. As long as the bearing haven't spun it should be alright to change, and if they are spun some with aluminum transfer on the crank that can be fixed with some acid to clean alum off the crank. New engine might be easier depending on how tough it is to get to the rods but hopefully the solenoid will fix it
I have the same problem with my car. Is it definitely a bad oil solenoid? From the second video in there series it sounds like a bad oil pump. And advice would be great!
Did they say it's just a solenoid or was it the oil pump too?
Wait, £17k for a 2014 S3? Seems like a lot.
I saw a 2018 S4 for sale in Germany for about €19k!!
Top spec as well.
S4 is a diesel, enough said 🙈
maybe 16500..? love the vids keep it going.
You must have a big yard for all the motors you have on the go! In danger of one man being overwhelmed!!!!
No coolant either did it have a cracked thermostat housing and get to hot
Mad man freezing nuts and bolts 🔩
-20C here now. Bloody freezing!
Good luck 🙏🙏
Sounded like a spun bearing... from my couch! LOL
Hey man, i just found your channel and i was curious, where do you get all your parts from?
Great video on the S3. I’ve got a A3 2019 1.6 tdi and impressed with the performance/handling can only imagine the S3 ❤👍👍👍
I think its too expensive as your working for free to repair it, I think £ 1,500 cheaper would be the ideal. Looks like a Copart purchase to me and everything they sell is expensive and with hidden problems. The Trade are now dumping problem cars at Copart and its a very dangerous expensive risk to buy from them.
When can we expect the next video about the AUDI R8 (when do you get the required parts)?
Get some mate's over and push it inside lol take care.
I’m assuming the beer case deal only applies to the UK?
Next time between Palm trees....much to cold for working outside !
Are the spiders trying to take ovder the world from your gaff 🤣🤣
How are these cars so cheap in the UK? In Germany they only start at 22k EUR (abt. 19500 GBP) for similar year/milage and mostly lower specs.
car aside....I noticed you're running a Windows 6.0 programme as a VM on a W10 laptop...nice! 👌
She’s an old girl 😂
Has somebody fitted a new engine out of a Massey Ferguson? That sounded bad man - interesting to see what you do with it!
I take my woolly hat off to you. Diagnosing a car in minus degrees is pretty hard-core!
Whats the system your using for technical info ?
