I was 15 in 75..... where's the time gone.... music was far better then
yep..sure was.. life was much better..
Ah, the seventies, this decade brought us such wonderful popmusic.
Sleep well, Ian. Your guitar playing was sublime.
Love this song growing up im 58 and still love this song forever
When songs were brilliantly written, and performed by proper musicians. Fantastic.🎸🎸
Hahahahaha, look up the Wrecking Crew, and learn about who was really "properly" performing music on a giant list of songs in the 60s and 70s, even the Beach Boys used them!
I doubt Pilot used them, but you were speaking broadly.
What, Mozart??
Three of these musicians have also impressively proven this on the debut album of the Alan Parsons Project!
@@TheRadioAteMyTV If you’d done your research properly, you would have know that David Paton and Ian Bairnson were “wrecking crew” equivalents themselves with international stars including Kate Bush, Elton John and Alan Parsons. Every musician in the band was highly capable and accomplished.
And lip synched
62 here...Think forward....not back! I loved the seventies, but also the eighties and nineties. I love the 'now' as well. Live it all people, with NO regrets!!!!!
I was 14 and remember dancing to this at a teenage Disco...Come back 70s, I miss you.
I'm 60 and I was 13 when this was number one in Australia.
My son is 20 and actually wishes he was alive in the 70s.
@@anniee6616 I hear that quite a bit on line…
Come back, please.
Me too.. Oh to be 14 again !!
Yes to all the above
Magic and January 2 of the most memorable from Pilot

I was six when this was a BIG hit. My 15 year old sister played and played and played this single over and over and over again.
That must have been super annoying

1975 what a great time 2 b alive
Takes me back to a fantastic childhood growing up in the seventies 😊
One of my mums favourite songs. Bless her
Mine too💥💫
On a flight from London to Kuala Lumpur on route to Brisbane this was one of the songs I played over and over on the flight music selection , along with Sting Moon over Bourbon Street eventually when I reached Sydney I ended up in a big CD / Record store bought the entire albums just for the Songs .
My mum just this second told me to look these up as it's her favorite too x raise a glass to our dear mother's here and away, x
@@poetryfromthemind4589 definitely. Been gone 35 years now. Still miss her.
My favourite song too from 1975, I’m 61 now and still one of my favourite songs ever 😍
Probably the greatest and happiest pop song ever written.
I'm a 70's baby I thank my parents for showing me what great music is and learning how to appreciate it.
Reminds me of long wet bus journeys to college in the late 70s
Reminds me of my very beloved Dad Martyn Marritt-please support ❤
One of the best songs, if over 50,
like Howzat by Sherbet or Airport by The Motors, reflecting a good taste of living in happy mood.
One of the best songs if you're 10, 11, 27, or 49. You may wear your badge but others will not. A 22 year may know all of the pilot songs on piano and flute, whilst a 50 year old may not. Tens of millions of people born in the month of January too. Think about that one. Have a nice day.
I love 💕 this song. Timeless classic of the 70s.
Well said son 👏
You can tell how nice it was to be around in the 70s, yep! wonderful times for sure with some great music like this from Pilot.
ALL THE MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. TIMELESS.
January 2021. Still listening...👍
Been loving this song for 24 years😊
every january i remember this beautiful song an evergreen of the 70s
Great comment. Loved this when it was out ❤
Ah, back when life was fun 😊
Haha, come to think of it, so do I - every January, all these years later.
Bring back 60s & 70s Music.
You could listen to these all day 365 a year...
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
Got here by accident, read your quote from Tennessee Williams and slammed on the breaks. Took a moment to process that. Very, very good quote.
"Ever noticed how stating the bleedin' obvious somehow sounds clever with a famous name under it?"

@@tombartram7384 Oh, Tom you're very cynical but also very funny. I genuinely laughed a lot at your comment ;-))
@@katewolfspirit6722 Thank you for your kind message Kate. Glad you you enjoyed my little quip. Yes I must admit, I was pretty pleased with myself about that one! 😄😄
@@tombartram7384 😎
David’s eyes, smile, and expressions still melt my heart! 🥰
I was just thinking, he is possibly the cutest pop star ever
Happy New Year 2023!!! 🎉
Davie Paton and Billy Lyall were part of a very exciting Edinburgh music scene and both spent time in an early version of The Bay City Rollers before Pilot ... According to ex bandmates in the Rollers, Davie Paton was immensely talented and would be the one to teach new band members how to play the songs, regardless of which instrument, as he knew it all .... Pilot is the rare band that you can listen to every song and appreciate it equally
Dave Paton was also a session musician.
@@rosonoftom1655 He played bass on Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights, and sang on Mull of Kintyre.
Thanks everyone interesting
I did not know there was an exciting music scene in Scotland, how nice. We need one here in the United States now but it is just not happening.
Songs like this touch the soul and put a smile on your face. So glad to have been a kid when songs like this were in the charts.
This is almost a song that Paul McCartney would write, but Pilot got there first.
Yes, it's Wings-era Macca.
Für David Cassidy
Yep, right down to that beautifully bouncy bassline.
I love this song & i think the singer is very good looking man.
Real people with exclusive talented music. How can we missed them?
Listening this song my mind flies to the 70's, I enjoy it too much!!
Pilot came up with some great music that helped me start my life long love of music. January and It's Magic are timeless
I think you speak for alot of people who were blessed to experience a decade or so of music from that era, still keep dipping back into it myself, always come away feeling better for it. 😁
I can remember when ( it's magic) became part of the Scottish language, usually followed with, by the way!!!!
This song is a must especially on the new years
still listening 2021.7
This takes me back. An awesome track. And a talented writer.
The 70s in England 🏴 were Magic safe clean nice restaurants great music👍🇬🇧
Nice restaurants? Well, at least good enough hash to make them seem nice? (Joking)
Billy Lyall was incredible talented, playing flute and keyboards - January was a worldwide hit!
Like the harmonies. Back when people actually sang and played instruments. True musicians.
OMGosh, he has the cutest smile. It just lights up the stage. 😊💕
I love smiles and lights on his face and he makes me feel happy and I give him a smile back😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤💖💖💖💖I love David Paton because he is sooo handsome and cute as u think

Hello 👋 people around the world. Let’s all stop for a moment and gather together here to appreciate the existence of this song.
always makes me smile. thank you
I'm listening to this song in November 2020. Was listening to it way back then.
Listening in January 2021
The way the guitar glistens in the light with the lens used is just pristine
You mean the bass? That glossy black really catches the light.
@@Nooziterp1 A bass guitar is still a guitar 🎸 😖😖😖😖
@@affectionatepunch Well yes, but i was just clarifying which guitar was catching the light.
I’m 61 now and this is still one of my favourite songs from my life, that’s why I am here now listening 43 on 😍😍
Me too🎼🎵🎶
If this is 1975, i had not long turned 9yrs old..i am now 58! 😮
This was penned by Pilot’s lead singer, David Paton, and produced by the one and only Alan Parsons. It reached #1 in the UK on January 28, 1975.
David Paton recalled : “My wife was reading a book and the main character was called January. She told me this and I wrote the chorus with that in mind. The verse was about how I felt at the time with the success of ‘Magic.’ I didn’t write the song in January, it was in October, just after the release of ‘Magic.” It was quickly recorded as the next single. We were recording the album ‘Second Flight’ in Air Studios in London when ‘January’ got to #1. I didn’t know the song was #1 until I arrived at the studio where I was greeted with handshakes and congratulations.”
The Scottish band were formed by David Paton and Billy Lyall. They were joined by Stuart Tosh and Ian Bairnson. They achieved transatlantic success with their single “Magic” in 1974, before “January” topped the UK chart in 1975. Pilot followed it up with their only other UK single chart hits “Call Me Round” and “Just A Smile” (1975).
After they split up in 1978, Tosh, Paton and Bairnson became part of the Alan Parsons Project, and Tosh also worked with 10cc.
HATS 🎩 OFF, FELLOWS‼️
May you rest in peace, William Lyall (1953 - 1989)… 🌹
👏🤗👏
For everybody, interested enough to read all of this: you MUST listen to Billy Lyall’’s so underrated album “Solo Casting” ..

Ah absolutely beautiful music with serenity and amazing guitar , drums and instruments to give one a taste of poetic melody. I mean Pilot could have easily been there with the likes of Crosby, Stills, Nash ,Eagles and one can go on and on...
I can't get this lovely song out of my head.
