  • It’s estimated that 100 people move to the Charlotte area every day. If you’ve driven in the area, you know it can sometimes take a long time to get around. That's why improving how people travel in the region is a big priority for transportation leaders.
It was top of mind for several industry experts who came together at the Regional Transportation Summit on Monday.
They addressed the current state of transportation and mobility in the Queen City. Industry experts also looked at what the future of transportation in Charlotte could look like.
City of Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles took the stand and said having a robust and strong transportation system is a major part of improving the quality of life for everyone who works and lives here.

Sadly, transit alone will not fix the problem. The layout of commerce and residences need to be changed as well. Charlotte, like many cities in the US, is too car centric, which makes taking public transportation really hard and expensive even for those who need it

Yes, I'm hopeful though that once the transit comes, people and businesses will see the benefit of locating close to the stations, increasing the transit usability.

it's better for dense development to follow public transportation establishment. Securing the Right of Way for transit is likely easier before density as well

It does work when it keeps expanding. If it reaches Rock Hill they can make a giant parking deck and most folks will go to Charlotte for work or uptown events. Atlanta made a mistake by not expanding Marta into the suburbs and look at 75,85 near downtown 😅😅 a traffic light.
