That’s true, but competition is very good for the gaming market. If Nintendo and Sony made that deal, the PlayStation wouldn’t come to be and there probably wouldn’t have been a great variety of games back then.
Bucket Y I actually think the opposite would happen. Nintendo, king of all gaming powered by Sony, would keep most games in the family-friendly bracket. Maybe Microsoft could jump in with nature games later, but I think part of that vision comes from the mature games on the PlayStation showing its possible. That's scary in its own right.
Guess it depends on how you label a "mistake". For all the ones EA seems to make, everything they do turns into a pretty huge success from a financial standpoint (which is the one that matters to them).
Jonathan L I think Disney raping them after seeing what happened because the mouse got so far as a media giant because it's the only damn company with foresight opposed to "ooh money now" vision was a pain in their ass.

Top 10 Video Games that were hated at first, but then adored later on. I am curious to see what games were disliked at first, but then liked in the future due to future games.
I haven't heard of that game, but if it was treated bad but then good, then yeah. I was also thinking of Super Mario Sunshine as it was not popular at first but became popular because of the New Super Mario Bros series, and 3D World
Surprised you haven't heard of NMS, since it got a lot of negative press around launch, and this was... a couple years ago, i think. Basically the creator promised a lot of things that would be there day 1, and they were just... not. It did get those features eventually via updates, and people liked it a lot more than how it was at launch. However, as for potential entries in a "hated at first, loved later on" countdown, I'd say Luigi's Mansion, EarthBound, and LoZ: Wind Waker, since those games weren't well received when they first came out but people liked them more as time went on. I remember hearing in the case of Luigi's Mansion, it didn't really get popular until the time the Wii came out.
Yeah, I mean, heck, Luigi's Mansion could have also gotten bigger and better press because of it's sequel Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, and the 3ds port of Luigi's Mansion are definitely reasons for it. However, I still feel that Dark Moon helped boost the original's reputation.

Here's a not-so-fun fact about the crash of '83 and Atari few people know about. A group of people that were working for Atari complained that they weren't getting paid enough, so they left and formed their own studio to make their own games. That studio is now known as "Activision," and it was their actions that caused the over-saturation to start. Even the guys that started the company said that they were indirectly responsible for the crash of '83. Say what you will about Activision, but that is actually pretty unfortunate. The guys just wanted to get paid properly, and in turn they accidentally caused other people to flood the market. Ouch.

Weren't Sega also doing loads of deals with Microsoft that fell through in the Saturn/Dreamcast timeframe? That probably lead to the Xbox being made? So like, Nintendo and Sega caused Playstation /and/ Xbox to happen =P and then Blockbuster rejected buying Nexflix, man the early 2000's were a bad time for smart business decisions lol
Biggest mistake in youtube is youtubers telling their audiences to subscribe and click that bell when they are probably already subscribed to them in the first place.

Top Five Video Games Where Lots Of People Die. (Not common foot soldiers, but rather major characters who have an impact on the main character in some way, either good or bad.)
Great list! I didn't know most of these. I have never been more glad for a Nintendo mistake, haha. Though, not just because I like my PS a lot, but also because they make for great competition.
Another mistake as he mentioned was Nintendo's choice of cartridges for the 64. Square Soft had one look and said that they were going to hang out with Sony.
Even though Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Secret of Mana and Super Mario RPG were all released at around the same time, towards the end of the Super Nintendo cycle.
Even still, Square was obviously ambitious with FF7 and saw the Nintendo cartridges as too restrictive with what they wanted to do with the game. Considering how big of a game FF7 turned out to be, I think they made the right choice in the end.
You can also thank Sega for creating the PlayStation, as they wanted to partner up with Sony shortly after Nintendo dumped them. The American division of Sega liked the idea, but the Japan division laughed Sony out of the room, out of doubts they can handle a full-on console. That dissonance cost them their role in the console arena.
P- RiSe I'm lactose intolerant and before there was lactose free milk and milk substitutes widely available, that was my life. I actually *enjoyed* Wheaties with oj. To imagine that now-gah! xD
Smart Alec very much so. And even today, it is slowly losing popularity Becuase the flaws of its "unique" battle system are being noticed more. I personally call it bold, but not close yo most other rpgs. Also, it has been called overrated by quite a few.
A lot of the recent flak Earthbound has been getting comes from Undertale fans, I've noticed. I don't have anything against that game or its fanbase, but a lot of people in the Mother fanbase didn't take Undertale very kindly and pushed back a little too hard, and suddenly all of these Undertale fans that are being told that their game "sucks" compared to Earthbound are looking at this classic more critically. It's unfortunate, really.
Probably because a good chunk of viewers are American, and probably don't know all the details. Arcades were completely fine, and you were golden if you had a computer. It's just that the home console market for a couple of years developed a burnout thanks to oversaturation. Nintendo had to get creative in order to sell their Famicom, basically resorting to calling it a "toy" here in the States. If you already knew all this, sorry. I did a fair amount of research regarding the Crash of '83 a few years back.
That's because the EU for certain had a very robust computer market at the time and computers could always fall back on the fact that they do other things besides video game. We can't exactly ignore that the NES was the Nintendo Entertainment System. If they put console on the cover everyone would have ran away from it on sight, and it took that entire generation of goodwill to walk back from the failure of E.T. and the licensing oversaturation.
Even in the US, home computer software was still doing fine even during the events of the crash in late '82 - early '85. It wasn't until Nintendo showing up that things improved in the console space.
Loot boxes that affect gameplay or lock certain content behind a RNG wall do indeed count as gambling, so long as there is no alternative method of obtaining said content. If you can just purchase the items outright with real money and/or acquired in-game currency, then it turns from a matter of "is it possible" to "when is it possible".
Me and my friend tried to play Halo 3 on his old Xbox360 the other day, but when we booted it up it had the red ring of death. It brought back memories.
How every mistake could’ve been handled: 5: EA Removes MTX in all of their games 4: Sega sticks to the original September launch date of the Saturn 3: Atari Introduces a Seal of Approval that requires licensed 2600 games to meet certain quality standards 2: Microsoft delays the launch of the Xbox 360 from November 22nd, 2005 to April, 2006 to relegate the Red Ring Of Death
I had a Saturn. If you were willing to search out the 2d games, or go further and get a ram cart and converter, it was an incredible system. Guardian Heroes, Dragonforce, Marvel Cap, all the Darkstalkers. Sadly, it was a 2d powerhouse in a new 3d era.
I am actually keeping a Dualshock4 on my computer desk because I bought a secondhand PS4 and the PS button does not work so it it literally impossible to set up. Thankfully I am able to get an exchange due to local consumer protection laws (Inability to use hardware you just got is most certainly a major failure!), but there is still a fairly large amount of coincidence there as I just remembered that I also own a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's glorious return to cartridges.
straburyred That's irrelevant. Ultimate's roster was set in 2015, way before that happened. If Crash gets in it will be based on the GBA games, and that he's actually relevant again. Like Cloud even if N'Sane didn't come to Switch he could've still gotten in
I'd have swapped 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 on the list, myself - Nearly destroying the industry, and putting a company into such a financial hole they had to drop out of console manufacturing - just seem like bigger mistakes than forcing a potential business partner into being your biggest competition and a faulty product launch that you ultimately recovered from to me.
I'm a simple person. I hear Pac-Man World 2 music, I get excited. Then I remember the type of video I'm watching and get scared..."oh no what did he dooo"
Sega didn't announce the Saturn the same day it was released. Their surprise announcement was they'd brought the release date forward a good six months because they were worried about getting ahead of the competition. The console had been formally announced a good year or so prior. It annoyed retailers because only select chains had been chosen for the early release. It annoyed developers as it meant bringing game release dates forward. It annoyed consumers because hey, we were kind of budgeting with a set date in mind that you just brought forward. It also meant it launched with a pitifully low number of games - we're talking single digits, three titles if memory serves.
I love the Silent Hill Shattered Memories song at the end. "Always on my mind" for those who want to find it. It's a drastically re-done version of Elvis Presley's original song.
I wasted so much orange juice to make this video.

Things would be so different if Nintendo made a deal with Sony.
*Flash passes by*
MysteriousM I think even if they did deal with each other. Sony would seperate and do their own thing eventually.
That’s true, but competition is very good for the gaming market. If Nintendo and Sony made that deal, the PlayStation wouldn’t come to be and there probably wouldn’t have been a great variety of games back then.
Nintendo might not exist today if they teamed up with Sony. They would have become what Rare did when they teamed up with Microsoft.
Then all video games would only be call of duty games, microtransactions and 12-13 year old kids screaming in their mic
I find that EA has made enough consistent and irredeemable mistakes that we can all just put down EA in general as a mistake for the gaming industry.

Why do so many people go like OMG THE VIDEOGAME CRASH OF 83!1!1!! , that was entirely located in the US, the EU and japan where just fine

5: EA Removes MTX in all of their games
4: Sega sticks to the original September launch date of the Saturn
3: Atari Introduces a Seal of Approval that requires licensed 2600 games to meet certain quality standards
2: Microsoft delays the launch of the Xbox 360 from November 22nd, 2005 to April, 2006 to relegate the Red Ring Of Death
ok, forgive the token "what song" comment, but what IS the song during the red ring of death segment?
I had a Saturn. If you were willing to search out the 2d games, or go further and get a ram cart and converter, it was an incredible system. Guardian Heroes, Dragonforce, Marvel Cap, all the Darkstalkers. Sadly, it was a 2d powerhouse in a new 3d era.
Not adding Waluigi into Smash should've been number one on this list.

As is over confidence
That Skull kid frame is pretty sweet.

I think he already did that.
Had Nintendo Not create the Playstation, Crash Bandicoot may have been in Smash Bros.
FYI, "N. Sane Trilogy" is coming to the Switch.
Neat.
Although that would be a funny troll trailer
straburyred That's irrelevant. Ultimate's roster was set in 2015, way before that happened.
If Crash gets in it will be based on the GBA games, and that he's actually relevant again. Like Cloud even if N'Sane didn't come to Switch he could've still gotten in
GoldenYoshistar1 Who knows? Mayber Crash wouldnt have existed either.
the RROD is usually an APU dislodgeing itself due to the mantra "form over function", microsoft went with and the subsequent overheating
love the new place you have!
Same.
I actually owned one of those original 360s, and I'm genuinely surprised it lasted me twelve years
Top 5 terrible games with amazing music.
James Williams sonic 06 is number 1
James Williams Although not necessarily terrible, Pokemon XY.
I hope it's all Sonic games.
Benjamim Carvalho with a couple exceptions, i felt x and y soundtrack was fairly lackluster
Rise of the Robots. Terrible fighting game, soundtrack by Queen.

I'm a simple person. I hear Pac-Man World 2 music, I get excited.
Then I remember the type of video I'm watching and get scared..."oh no what did he dooo"
What on earth is the song at 9:21. It slaps HARD
The irony at the Number 1 pick is palpitating.
When you started talking about EA and showed C&C Rivals, I accidentally groaned out: "Oh no...." and my family stared all weird at me.... XD

number 1: every old game Microsoft tries to give a sequel
Sega didn't announce the Saturn the same day it was released. Their surprise announcement was they'd brought the release date forward a good six months because they were worried about getting ahead of the competition. The console had been formally announced a good year or so prior. It annoyed retailers because only select chains had been chosen for the early release. It annoyed developers as it meant bringing game release dates forward. It annoyed consumers because hey, we were kind of budgeting with a set date in mind that you just brought forward. It also meant it launched with a pitifully low number of games - we're talking single digits, three titles if memory serves.
Which, to be completely fair, was more games than what the Nintendo 64 launched with.
do you have a link to the music used during the countdown number segments, please?
I love the Silent Hill Shattered Memories song at the end. "Always on my mind" for those who want to find it. It's a drastically re-done version of Elvis Presley's original song.
