    What's worse than banned games (as you can get around the ban buying via ebay if you're on console) is stuff that happens to games like 'Six days in Fallujah' where devs Atomic did so much research and even worked with soldiers who fought there, only to have the publisher back down over confused public outcry despite the amount of respect and care the subject matter was to be treated. I can understand from some aspects, however not allowing people to learn about a recent event that affected many who fought, lost family, experienced tragedy ect through experiencing it as told by those who where there is really tragic. If more knew what those soldiers experienced we'd probably have more hesitation towards war and how we treat conflicts of that scale in future.
    Sure, we have games like 'This war of mine' & 'Papers please' but when FPS games dominate a chunk of the market these days to have another game that treats the subject of war and its affects from a critical standpoint like 'Spec ops:The line' did people might learn a think or two that might change how we think about global conflict in future.

    • @bibbobella
      @bibbobella 6 лет назад +1

      You make it sound like it is the normal people that deside if there are going to be a war.
      It is the politicans that have never held a gun in their hands and don't have to get their hands dirty that will do it..I truely doubt any normal person would want war but they still happen and will always happen.

    • @meikahidenori
      @meikahidenori 6 лет назад +1

      @@bibbobella yes, but people still influence the decisions of politicians. A country only works if the political system in charge holds the illusion of doing what's right for the populous and if people don't like the government that's when things go bad (seriously, Australia has gone through... sheesh... ALOT of Priministers in such a short space of time and we're probably going to have another by the end of this year as we dislike the Fwit who took over - with good reason, he's f'd us over economicly a few times as the governments treasurer of previous Priministers for this perticular party amongst other things.) you only have to look as some of histories most awful dictatorships to see what happens when you abuse the people your supposed to be in charge of.
      Not saying this would change many minds (at least, not the ones that really should change) but there are also normal everyday people (and you can't deny that we don't have these people in existence) who think the only way to solve anything is at gun point. But besides that, this was an important event that happened, people died and alot are left scarred, to see it swept under the carpet to pretend it didn't happen shows we didn't learn jack squat about the past with how we handled the Vietnam war which is still for many a touchy topic because of how not just the government, but the people around those who lived the horrors of it were treated and how we just wanted to pretend that part of history didn't happen.
      If you can only change a few minds though, its better than changing none at all.

    I don't really get why the media has to make such a big stink over GTA possibly messing up our children. As far as I'm concerned, it's an M rated game, meaning that children really aren't suppose to even touch them in the first place. I mean, I'm sure it happens (a family friend's grandson pretty much tricked her into thinking that one game was okay for him, as he played it at his friend's house), but if a parent is truly responsible, they will do their research and tell their children to just stick with Mario. And punish them if they manage to get their hands on GTA.

    • @tylerlarsen1842

      My mom and dad were very responsible with me as far as video games are concerned. I say that in spite of the fact that I played quite a few M-rated games as a kid. I never had thoughts of committing a crime, nor have video games altered my personality directly other than the fact that I play them a lot. Like, I was 12 years old when GTA V first came out, and my dad was perfectly fine with purchasing the game for me, and my mom wouldn't have batted an eyelash either. They know full well about what content is generally within these games, and that said content doesn't affect me.

      Another reason why the media shouldn't freak out so much over M rated games. If something as simple as a visual/audio media gets you to perform criminal activities, chances are there was already something wrong with you to begin with. Most kids can tell when a character is doing something wrong, and what they can do in the world of fiction can't be done in real life.

      To parents, a game is a game, and a lot of them don’t really know what ESRB ratings even are. Unless it’s Mortal Combat X or something else that extremely obvious, they don’t really have a problem buying it. It’s not necessarily their fault for not knowing any better, but being upset about guns, sexual themes, or frick words being in an M rated game that you bought for your child is in absolutely no way the game’s fault and just plain unfair.
      It’s important to educate your kids, but it’s also important for parents to educate themselves on what their children are doing whenever they have the opportunity.

    With regards to the China thing...
    Taiwan: The issue can be heavily oversimplified to whether or not Taiwan is an independent country or part of China, but it goes far deeper than that. Taiwan's government is actually the original Nationalist (KMT) government of the Republic of China, which ruled over the mainland up until they lost the Chinese Civil War, and were forced to retreat to Taiwan. Now, the Mainlanders (Communist Party of China) insist that Taiwan is theirs even though they have never even set foot (figuratively speaking) on the island.
    Hong Kong: I'm sure as a fellow Brit you'll know a bit about Hong Kong. We were once a colony of yours when the Qing Dynasty lost the Opium Wars; unfortunately, the treaty signed at the end of the First Opium War stipulated a 99 year lease on Hong Kong's New territories instead of an outright ceding; after 99 years, HK was a massively different place (being ruled by another power for a century, and subsequently dodging the disasters of Mao's Great Leap Forward *and* the horrors of the Cultural Revolution will do that to a place), and the result of being handed over to a dictatorship is that now there is an increasingly large separatist/autonomist movement in Hong Kong (at one set of protests, there were people waving Colonial Flags in protest of the CPC).
    Tibet: the CPC forcibly annexed Tibet in the 1950's, and lets just say that hasn't gone over well with either the local population, nor the international community who disagrees with the idea of a nation trampling right over the sovereignty of another before forcibly annexing it's territory into their own. The CPC's incredibly shaky and quite frankly flimsy justification is some convoluted explanation of ancient claims based on previous Imperial Dynasties that annexed Tibet at various points. Due to various political, geographical and economic reasons, China really doesn't want to let go of Tibet.

    Censorship laws are weird in general, especially when they largely differ from country to country. Like I remember certain scenes in South Park: The Stick of Truth just being entirely censored in certain places.
    But if it allows these games to be in the public eye, then so be it. It’s just too bad that some aspects of it have to be axed as a result. But when a game is outright banned, then it unfortunately gives it less exposure and makes certain people have to jump through hoops just to get it.

      There are no good reason to ban games. The end.
      It doesn't matter if it is overly violent, retardedly bad, offensive like all hell or even propaganda..It should still be allowed censoring is not nessesary!
      Now giving a small warning and not allowing it to be sold to children is all find and dandy but censoring and banning is the same as bookburning...You should be allowed these games in any country even if a few people get offended by them.
      Why does them being butthurt mean we shouldn't get to play the game and choose for ourself rather it was worth being butthurt about?
      (That being said the second they start breaking laws by including stuff like real life murder in a cutscene that is another case and some work is honestly just better after being censored..because we dont need to see a 10 year old girl with double D's...but that isnt really the point)

    As a Brazilian, I feel offended by the ending. What do you mean I need to get out and play football?
    Also, there's an interesting detail on the Episodes of Liberty City fiasco: the game only got banned not because it has a unlicensed song, but rather because said song was sang by a minor. The Ministério Público (the equivalent of the prosecutors on other countries) is the entity that protects the needs of certain categories of people and interests, such as seniors, the environment and, relevant to the question, kids. Since they can't act on their own, because kids below 16 need the supervision of the parents to enter with the action, the MP entered with a class action just to ban the game until the problem is solved, because that kid was singing profanities, and we can't have those in our beloved football-loving country.

    Speaking of Australia, their most inexplicable ban had to be on the Atelier series for "sexual violence," when there's practically zero sexual content in the entire series. For reference, those games are rated PG in most other countries, including its neighbor, New Zealand. What's more ironic is that they gave Senran Kagura, a game where you rip one another's clothes, a PG rating.

    A few things about the state of Australia you mentioned:
    We have had an R18+ rating since 2013. Some old hardarse by the name of Michael Atkinson refused to give us a rating whilst he still had the power to prevent it, despite everyone else wanting it. Him giving up his seat was what initiated the push for an R18+ rating.
    Our government is rubbish. We have had 5 Prime Ministers in the last 10 years (who are supposed to have 4 year terms each), and it looks as though the Liberals will lose control during this year's election.
    Also, the fact that Mark Echo was banned was outcried quite a bit when it happened. Some major outlets pointed out that Need For Speed: Most Wanted, a game that can very easily be seen to glorify street racing, was released with a cozy General rating, whilst Marc Echo was banned outright.
    If Marc Echo had been released properly, it probably would have been given a MA15+ rating pretty easily. And if it had been rereleased today, I'd wager it would only be hit with a M rating (equivalent to a 12 rating in Europe).
