      @@afletra Scleroderma
Marble dust is abrasive and causes irritation to the skin. Stonemasons who have long-term exposure to marble dust have a high risk of developing scleroderma. This is a rare and progressive disease that involves the hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissue. It results from the overproduction and accumulation of collagen in the body tissues. Exposure to silica, which is a component found in marble dust, is one risk factor for developing scleroderma.

"Your training is over when the instrument is no longer something you hold, but becomes a part of you", was how my fencing guru put it. Always thought it was at least a bit hyperbole. Aside from the lack of PPE and clean environment, their process is impressive. Especially the guy creating each piece. My son loves to play chess and as a graduation present, I gifted him a $300 Roman Coliseum Gladiator Pewter Glass Chess Set. It's gorgeous and a pretty heavy set (definitely not meant to be moved around) for a chess board. The glass board sits on top of what looks like ancient coliseum. The chess pieces are gladiator soldiers kneeling with shields and swords for pawns, King, Queen . A lion standing on its hind legs roaring are the rooks. It's pretty cool to look at. One day I might learn how to play lol.

My dad and my brother have been machinist-millwrights for a combined 90 years, and are regarded as extremely talented. Around 1980, when the oil industry suffered a major economic slowdown, my dad and the boss' son were the only two left on the night shift, and he got into an argument with the shop foreman. He told my dad, "Y'know why I kept you around here? Because you can start on a part, eff it up, and start over and finish it before anybody else".
My brother is a chip off the old block. I'm sure with a little practice, they could both churn out repetitive chess pieces like this guy.
