I've known for years the Japanese magnificent obsession with attention to detail, the various steps in the manufacture of these Go boards is no exception. The many steps in making the feet, a part of the board not really seen in the use of the board, just shows how much craftsmanship and care goes into making these works of art!
I really like how each one has different dimensions, some are taller, some are a bit wider or thinner. Each one feels unique and gives it character. Expert craftsmen displaying their brilliance.
Very satisfying to watch these master craftsmen creating something beautifull. I love japanese crafts,every step is so deliberate. I can call myself the proud owner of a handcrafted japanese santoku knife and i love it 😃 Much love from germany.

For those curious, they sell them for around 1,000,000 yen, or $7,340.70 US. Expensive, but as you can see in the video a lot of skilled manual labor goes into these. Add in the fact that the wood is 300-700 years old and you get a once in multiple lifetimes board.
@@MrTheDeathKing The people buying boards of this quality will mainly be Go & Shogi professionals, not just random "bourgeois". (Also tournament organizers.) There are Go & Shogi leagues in Asian countries, pros make a living playing those games.

I love how, in Japan patience and aesthetics hold such esteem. Japan where final finishes are made w/ razor sharp tools and expertise. I have been privileged to visit 3 times, but only to get a sense of what I have missed.

As a fellow woodworker, this is absolutely impressive! This is also why the only brand of vehicles in my family’s household is Toyota/Lexus. The quality and caliber of craftsmanship of pretty much everything I’ve ever seen made from Japan is worth every penny. Even old tools I find at thrift stores or garage sales, if it says made in Japan I just buy it. Great video🤙🏼

When I was work and made things, often masterpieces,I was worry how much difficult and hard work to made it, but after social media and watching many masters of work I realise that every masterpiece is born after so many effort. Thumbs up.👍
This has inspired me for my Jiu Jitsu training which is in an hour. Watching these masters has taught me something. The principles of mastery is universal in all art forms.

It is very calming to listen to the sound of a very sharp chisel and the movement of the hands of a Master Craftsman. I look for tools that have been tossed in a box. Some are hundreds of years old. 昔父が買った将棋盤もさぞ高かった記憶があります。
当時は高過ぎと思いましたが、この素晴らしい動画のお陰でそれ以上の価値があることがわかりました。
足の付け根に名入れがあるなんて絶対に分からなかったし、将棋盤1つにこれでもかという程の手間や職人技が施されていることを知ることができ感動しました。
4月から小学1年生になる娘が将棋に興味を持つようになったのも何かの縁かも。
押し入れの奥にあるはずのあの時の将棋盤を探してみます。

It's definitely not a cheap process, but you can see where the value is in the work. This is fascinating to see the process of one manufacturer from trunk to table. No wonder they sign their work.

I've been dreaming of a real kaya goban for years. When you see this video, they are just works of art. In the meantime, I already consider myself happy to have been able to get my hands in Belgium on a goban in shin kaya a few centimeters thick...

It is very calming to listen to the sound of a very sharp chisel and the movement of the hands of a Master Craftsman. I look for tools that have been tossed in a box. Some are hundreds of years old. I bring them back to life. You can know the craftsman by using their tools. I am amazed at how you hold and execute yours! Thanks for sharing! RWB ❤🎉
