    Sad, such beautiful woodworking everywhere. It really pisses me off when people vandalize these places.

      This was caused by moron wanting to rehab one like they do on TV. I saw so many houses ruined by this fad.

    Just Renovated a 9 unit apartment building in Chicago that's almost this old. All that lath and plaster, the exposed brick looks EXACTLY the same. Current project is a 43 unit apartment building that was built somewhere around 1905. Even such a building pulling in nearly 50 thousand dollars a month in rent fully occupied, doesn't even come close to paying it's own renovation costs. You can get a loan from a bank, but the robbers charge you such interest that you'll be paying off the loan for 50 years. The construction on the buildings of that Era is so solid, nothing today even comes close. They're worth saving. The sad thing is, almost no companies or investors will touch something that takes so much initial expense and so long to become profitable again. Because of this, little parts of this countries history are lost every day. I take big risks in my company becuse I've gotten lucky so far. I'm fortunate to be where I am now. No wife or kids, no family to worry about providing for. It may all come crashing down on me one day and I'll be living on the street, but hell, I'll at least be able to say I tried. I'd rather be homeless and broke and be able to say I tried to do something that nobody else had the balls to do. I'd simply be unable to live with myself if I were just like everyone else out there, saying, tear it down and put up some pre-fabricated, cheaply built insult to architecture. If I was bill gates I'd buy up every single last abandoned or foreclosed house/building from this Era and make it look brand new again, to hell with profits. One can dream eh?

    Less than 7 minutes??? Oh my, this beauty deserves the longest video you're able. The wonderful fireplaces and pocket doors. The main stairway and servants stairs(I couldn't tell where you were). And the basement!!!! This true "painted lady" must have the Grand Tour!!!

    This is the kind of home I only dream about owning. I like my house but I love this one. Great job thank you again for sharing. Wow just did some research on this place last year it was sold was in 2010 and purchase price was $44,000. Wish I was born rich instead of beautiful lol it would cost at least 3 x that to restore it.

    • @karenfoster22
      @karenfoster22 9 лет назад +1

      Well it's been 4 years now and has been on the market for resale many time's saw on one site that it's now valued at only 9,000.00 due to decay.

    I've been hooked on urban exploration videos for a while now. You could teach other explorers how to do video. 1. Thank you for not giving me a headache by moving the camera around to fast. 2. Not focusing on the floor most of the time. 3. Showing the detail of the home, 4. Not zooming in on the toilet. Nice work!

    We own a 1886 Victorian and I have the same newel post and banister as this house. However mine is an 11 room house not a mansion. The fix up price for these places are astronomical, that's why they end up in ruins if not changed into apartments. Few people can afford a dwelling like this for one family.

    • @Tonithenightowl
      @Tonithenightowl 8 лет назад +5

      I didn't restore my house I remodeled it. We have no historic society. My niece lives in a historic area 40 mins away and that's how it is there. You can do whatever you want to the inside but the outside has to remain the same.I always kid her she's going to have to sell one of her kids when she goes to replace the windows and huge front porch lol. It will all have to be custom made. No thanks. We kept what was good and replaced what wasn't. Nothing had been done in it since the 60's so it needed EVERYTHING. Most would have just torn it down but the bones were good so...People don't realize its so old until they get inside. I'm glad we saved it but what a freaking project lol .:o)

    • @Tonithenightowl
      @Tonithenightowl 8 лет назад +1

      +GrumpyMom LOL I hear you. 1860's WOW !!! I thought my house was old lol. My basement and attic have that Harry Potter effect. The attic has gables so you can only walk in the middle of the rooms. Talk about feeling off kilter. The basement has only 2 rooms for whatever reason, they only went so far with it. I don't know if its bc it's old or what but I will get fleeting moments when I feel like I'm in the past. Almost like a time warp lol. Very weird. My husband thinks I'm just nuts but it happens often. This was also a convent for 40 yrs from the 1920's till the 1960's and I swore I saw a nun come out of our music room and head up the stairs lol. It was only a glimpse but damn it freaked me out. Residual energy perhaps in a place this old. I don't have ghosts ( kind of pisses me off) but I've had a few weird things happen. My son stayed here for 3 months while it was being renovated for fire insurance reasons and moved out. Said he would hear people talking upstairs ( so have I) heard footsteps ( I have not) but it unnerved him. My daughter jumped at the chance for free rent and utilities and stayed here the last 5 months till renovations were complete and never saw or heard anything weird. You would think places like ours would come with a resident ghost or two lol It's only right.:o)

    • @Tonithenightowl
      @Tonithenightowl 8 лет назад +3

      +GrumpyMom WOW !!! You definitely have more activity than I do. I wonder what that room was used for that left it feeling so .... ominous. At least you didn't get short changed with ghosts seems like you have an array. I wouldn't mind the kids but Joe would have to GO. I never really thought of myself as sensitive compared to other people but I know I wouldn't want to see anything that scared me. Most of what I've experienced wasn't scary, only fascinating. I was up in the attic on a sunny afternoon to get out decorations and I felt 3 distinctive taps on my upper arm. Muscle spasms? Very possible but it felt just like when someone is trying to get you attention. My son when he lived here was dog sitting for a friend and the dog ran up to the attic. She started barking like a maniac so my son went up to get her down. She was frozen at the top of the steps, wouldn't move and was shaking like a leaf. My son had to carry this 60 lb dog down the steps. The dog didn't even go near the second floor much less the attic steps for the rest of the weekend. Another time I was out in the yard with my toddler grandson ( he's 7 now) when I watched a semi transparent figure the size of a cat race ( I can't say run, there were no legs) across the driveway and into near by bushes. It had markings on it but it was see through. I thought at first it was a tight formation of tiny birds in flight and I was seeing their shadow but there was nothing in the sky at the time but a few single birds. I checked the bushes but of course nothing was there. Not sure what the heck that was but it didn't scare me. You must be quite sensitive if you are seeing full blown apparitions. As long as it doesn't bother you...... I've also been in bed reading and heard a big crash in the kitchen, went to check thinking one of the cats overturned something but nothing was amiss. I have a strict rule when it comes to this kind of thing. I have to be totally awake or it doesn't count lol. Do you see this little girl out of the corner of your eye or full on? I also own the house next door to this one ( my son and his family live there) circa 1910 and I was always seeing things out of the corner of my eye when we lived there. I watched a gray mass come from the hallway, it turned left to glide along side the bed and made a right to enter the closet. I was stunned but again there was no fear involved. This is about as sensitive as I wanna get lol :o)

    • @Tonithenightowl
      @Tonithenightowl 8 лет назад +2

      +GrumpyMom OMG !!! I hope you're used to it bc you sure have your share. I think its incredibly sad when its a case of child spirits. There should be no reason why a child should be caught between worlds. It makes no sense to me. One explanation is.... it's not kids but entities pretending to be children. Easier to get attention that way or less intimidating so to speak.
      I hear you about pets. I've never seen one of my deceased pets but for 3 yrs after we put down our 18 yr old mixed small terrier I swear she jumped on my bed just about every night. I could feel her walking around trying to find her spot lol. At first, I'd turn the light on and was like wtf? but after a while I got used to it. I also thought it might be grief for the first few months but it happened long after I got over her being gone. We didn't get another pet for 3 yrs and within a month of getting our cat, it stopped. Never had that happen with any other pet we had to put down. However I've heard just what you talked about from other people so it DOES happen.
      I've also heard of protective spirits. Good thing you had one when you needed it. What a bastard !!! The spirit should have knocked him out an upstairs window lol Try explaining that to the cops lol. Glad to see someone so destructive is no longer in your life. Joe seems easy to handle as long as you play by his rules. I just don't understand why they won't move ON. Maybe they don't know they are dead, or are afraid of judgment due to religious teachings. Sometimes its unfinished business on their part. Lets face it we know so little about what happens after death we can only have theories. I have a good friend who had an NDE back in the 70's. Her experience was pretty much like many others. However, there were things she knew that she shouldn't have known. She has never changed one iota of her experience, it's cemented in her head bc it was more real than real life to her. Lots of things we don't understand but again science can't explain EVERYTHING, though they try. WE can't all be whack jobs. lol.
      I can't imagine dealing with this a life time but you seem no worse the wear for it. You must be a very strong person. I've always been fascinated by ghost stories and know quite a few from very sane, no nonsense kind of people. They didn't know what to make of it either but they stand by what they experienced. Many don't/ won't bc it's just not in their belief system or they are afraid of ridicule. Easier to pretend it didn't happen. If you feel comfortable with emails I would love to hear more. It's a bit easier than communing through youtube. My name is Toni. My email is Tonithenightowl @ aol.com. If that's not ok this venue will do. I would love to hear how you found out about the Indian burial grounds. It would certainly explain a lot. :o)

    • @Tonithenightowl
      @Tonithenightowl 8 лет назад +2

      +GrumpyMom facepalm? Never heard that expression. Does that mean the Indians were slaughtered or they slaughtered white settlers? So much violence leaves it's mark. It's like cursed ground. I too have own a few divination tools. Tarot cards, Gypsy Fortunetelling cards and a crystal ball. I also have a ouija board but can't remember the last time I had it out. I don't think of these things as "evil" they are just tools. I'm with you. I have no reason to lie about anything. What's the point? How can we learn if we can't be completely honest. I believe we are making great strides in understanding this field and weeding out the frauds is essential. :o)

I live in this proud state, and I'm glad you search and explore old places like this in my state, I'm guessing you live in Missouri too (I could be wrong) but thank you for what you do! That was an excellent urbex explore! What a beautifully appointed house. Can you imagine what the house must of been like when it was alive and ticking with activity. The staircases were grand. The fireplaces were beautiful, especially the one with the marble front. It's too bad that it hasn't been looked after. I wonder if this to will get torn down. It's so sad. Houses like these are very labor intensive & require a bank roll. Plus the eradicating all the lead & asbestos cost thousands. Probably needs rewiring to remove all the knob & tube wiring. To heat & cool this place would be a high monthly expense. This one is a very beautiful example.

    You can get places like this for less, they are just usually in small towns or poorer southern states. Not trying to be rude about economies, it's just true. I live in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and there are beautifully restored Victorians for 200,000 to 400,00. This is an area of artists and is more expensive. Other areas of the state are cheaper. There are houses from all over the country for sale at "Old House Dreams" and "Circa Old Houses".

    This would have been a grand home when first built.

    I wonder when this place was last renovated? The bathroom fixtures are much newer than 1876-- probably 1940's, though possibly even newer.

    Wow, it looks like someone has already been at it on this place but this was done in 2014. Where does the restoration stand now?

    I always wondered what this house looked like inside, this house is located in Moberly mo, I have heard so many stories about this house how there was under ground passageways but they have closed them up I am not for sure just things I have heard. I love all the old bansters and wood facing.

      pinkfreud62 It's pretty bare. Supposedly there used to be a tunnel down there connecting to a shed in the backyard but there's no evidence of that now

    If it is too dimensionally unstable they really should reclaim the wood work and fireplace grill. A lot of those things can be reclaimed and reused in another house instead of just throwing them away.
