    The 14" is technically the better deal on specs but I wanted a big, light thin, fast laptop and the Pro looks like a tank to me with that thick body and excess weight. Also I don't need sd card reader, hdmi ports and the screen res on the Air is more than good enough. So I bought the Air with 16 ram and 512 ssd with the 70 watt charger.

    • @craigneidel
      @craigneidel  Год назад

      Yes, if size is key then the thinner 15" might be right for you. The 14" is better in a bunch of ways but in the end I still see the 15" selling very well and for some it will be all they need.

    It seems to me that the M2 air is an amazing performer, totally future-proofed… except when sat next to an M2 MBP. But just because the pro is *insane* doesn’t mean the M2 is suddenly junk. For me, bigger screen, better battery, thinner form factor matters more than darker blacks, ports I’ll never use, and benchmarks on programs I don’t care about.

      After watching comparison videos I was ready to trade the MBA 15" I just bought for the M3 MBP just released, but when I went in store to see the models in person the MBP 14" looked and felt like a big clunker, and didn't have nearly the same screen space as the MBA 15" and looked closer to my current MBA M1 13"

  • @heirtothethrone000
    @heirtothethrone000 Год назад +6

    I thought about buying the 15" MBA or the 14'" M2 MBP. Personally I won't buy and laptop without at least16gb of ram 512 gigs of storage and if it's about a $50 diference I'm gonna go pro all day because I would rather have the power and not need it rather than need the power and don't have it. The weight is pretty much the same so being thinner is just that but it still weighs about the same. The one inch is not that big of a difference but when it comes to a better screen, havivg a HDMI port, card reader the things I use I dont want to have to buy anything extra. People are talking about fans when if you were doing basic stuff on a Pro model I doubt the fans would even be and issue and then it's the typing. People want the latest when it comes to Macs so they should just say that instead of all of the small excuses. When the 13" MBA came out I could see people comparing the weight difference but I bet the 15' and 14" feel the same in a back pack.

    If you stare at a screen all day, 120 promotion makes a difference, that with higher resolution will make a difference over time. Also in regards to typing it's probably not the lip but I can say my 16" is easier to type on than my sons 14" because if the extra wrist area on the 16". I don't understand though why no fans, you will never hear them on the pro unless there is a NEED to hear them, I would rather have fans personally than a processor having to thermal throttle all the time. Now if you don't do anything to make throttle, by all means the no fan is great. I did have the M1 13" and it was great, I just couldn't push it like I wanted when needed.

    • @craigneidel
      @craigneidel  Год назад

      Watch my video before this and I basically tell people to buy the 14" in that one. This video was all the feedback I received on whey to consider the 15" based on that first video. The fan-less design is for laptops in general and on my M1 Air it's nice because many people come from the older Intel MacBooks with the fans making a ton of noise. But yes the 14" rarely uses the fan unless you are doing heavy lifting with it. That is true but it can still make some noise from time to time. I like the fan also just in case I need to do things like video editing so nothing throttles. Thanks for watching.

    It' called the "AIR" for a reason. It's really important for me to have that extra screen real estate without the thickness of the MacBook Pro. I would say that if you travel a lot and want a sexier MacBook go with the air. Otherwise pro is a better option. These 2 devices are made for different types of people. The 13in Air, 15in Air, 14in Pro, and 16in Pro all have have the same size assets on screen. The system fonts and icons are all the same physical size when you take a ruler to them, the only difference is that the pros have a slightly more dense pixel count to make the screens sharper. You can’t see the difference from an arm’s length. That’s why the 15in Air can display more lines of text on screen at all display scaling settings compared the more dense 13in Pro. Only reason why I want the new MacBook is because Apple, and a large screen, and future use if I have a business or a serious life moves. I have a 13’ surface laptop 4 with Ryzen 5 but it is used only on an occasion. Still, it is sufficient for every day, non-media content creation tasks.

    Apple handicapped the SSD on the air to cut cost. As much as I think I would prefer the portability and typing on the air. Hello Craig! You swayed me to the base model Mini... i ended up changing my mind and started looking for a laptop instead, so i come to you once again for advice....
    MacBook Air M2 13" base model... would it handle video editing / music production? I don't do video editing currently (just sporadically), but i would want to do music production. I have a big TV Screen that i use when i need a bigger screen, so screen size is not really important to me. I'm in Portugal so here's what's happening with the prices:
    Macbook Air M2 13" base model: 1349€
    *Macbook Air M2 13" 8 CPU + 10 GPU: 1469€
    MacBook Pro M2 13" base model: ~1600€ (this one doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever)
    MacBook Pro M2 Pro 14" base model: 2499€
    The air seems to be the best for me at the time... This will be a laptop for me to start working, and then eventually get a proper workstation, and still have the laptop to do some work. From your experience, how would the Air M2 13" perform?
    So...could i get some advice from the master himself? 👉👈much love! 🤍

    • @craigneidel
      @craigneidel  Год назад +1

      Funny, thanks for watching. If you are actually going to do video editing where you create content to make money back, I would get the 16 GB ram instead of the base model. Even something like the M1 Air with 16 GB is better at video editing than the m2 with only 8GB ram. Most people don't video edit, and I think it's about 6% of the USA or less. But if you are one of them, the I think it's worth the extra $200 for the ram (to 16 GB). Apple should just give us all 16 to start, but you know how they operate. It sucks but in the end if you are actually going to be editing for a business reason then I would go with 16 GB ram since we are almost into 2024 now. Thanks again.

      @@craigneidel Thank you so much for the reply Craig! Will definitely get the 16GB!
      Just one question, would 2 more GPU cores be noticeable? I added the options at the bottom of this comment, but this is what i'm thinking:
      Air M2, 10 GPU, 16GB RAM: might a solid choice until i get a decent workstation
      After all, I'm still using my 2012 MBP and am able to get my work done (even able to use DaVinci Resolve on it, but need to do some resource management ahaha)
      Thank you again Craig! Love your content honestly! You should be able to get to 60k no problem! Much love 🤍
      These are the options i looked at:
      MacBook Air M2, 8 GPU, 16GB RAM: 1599€
      MacBook Air M2, 10 GPU, 16GB RAM: 1719€
      MacBook Pro M2, 16GB RAM: 1859€
      The Pro doesn't make sense at all to me, since for 150€ less the Air has the same memory, CPU, GPU... only thing it doesn't have is fans...

    Do not overlook that this is a 6 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores. I know, this is still a fantastic machine for the price, but as soon as you get into the upgrades it is no longer a proposition. The AppleCare+ is not cheaper than the MacBook Pro 14 inch. I love my 16" but it got sold today. I got an offer I could not refuse. Of course, I could have refused, but I am going to the 14 M2 MAX in silver. Craig, we have to go diversity class man... I learned last week that I am biased - lol. Still scored 100% because I am a sensitive boi.

      Thanks for the info. Thanks for the comedy also at the end. The 14" is a great system.
