First, all my gear is by SRAM except their brakes. But I do surely think that Pinion will have the complete system to beat! Enclosed Gears that always stay clean.....Less weight on the back wheel with everything in the Motor casing. Sure seems like the future to me....I love my current wireless setup but Pinion with enclosed gears & Motor seems to be the way to go.
I totally agree about gearboxes being the future for emtbs and ebikes in gerneral. Derailleur systems with there lower friction make sense for cycles that rely on human power, but not for those that power assisted for the points you raise above, and many more.
I just ride with my Stumpjumper Expert and be happy. No motor, Battery autoshift, wireless and autoshift. If you think about it, 90% would be happy with a NX-Groupset and 98% with GX/SLX or just a normal light Hardtail with fast rolling tires 😉
I don’t want all that auto shift & wireless stuff. Just more stuff to go wrong in my opinion. Plus I enjoy using well setup cable shift gears. Not that I’m against new kit as I ride a Mondraker e-bike equipped with Gen4 Bosch, but I enjoy manually choosing the gears, timing my pedal stroke to change gear smoothly etc… I love automatic transmission in my car though 😂
Nobody needs an automatic transmission on a mountain bike... what we need is a motor-gearbox unit and Pinion has made it. This Sram "powertrain" is already born old.
Nice looking bike. How is the motor noise? Any rattles when descending like the other motor (I cant recall if it was ep8 or Bosch). Hopefully we can see one soon in the US and get test rides in.
What location was this filmed in? looks amazing! And I do want autoshift!! 🙂 Not sure why anyone would not like it, but it is not a must, it is a thing you can buy if you want.. And I will!
Probably not retrofit (unless they design a different TCU), but I can see this being adopted by Specialized on some of their higher end models in the future - they already spec the T-type AXS transmission on a number of 2024 model year bikes.
@@jmo2752 I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if this is the same motor that is used in the Levo, but a new TCU. Also, it appears that SRAM has run a wire from the main battery to the RD so that both are charged/running on one common battery, which I think makes a lot of sense for eBike application, and is likely why SRAM is introducing these new batteries. Given how closely Specialized, Brose and SRAM are, I’d be surprised if this wasn’t on their new bikes in the coming model year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if this is somewhat of a handoff of the relationship from Specialized/Brose to SRAM/Brose as I know specialized has eaten a whole lot of warranty repairs outside the warranty period, and using a “SRAM Powertrain” offloads all that liability to SRAM if Brose wasn’t already forced to eat the expenses of warranty repairs as a part of their agreement with Specialized.
To complicated to fix it you will have to go back to shop plug in ? Still belt drive and wots it going to be like after a wet muddy winter in Great Britain ?
Can’t ride a moped at a bike park You could buy a really expensive three piece suite or a ride on mower or any other similar irrelevant item that has nothing to do with mtb
So auto shift and coast shift, not too dissimilar to Shimano auto shift and coast shift, but like both, unless you run the complete system you don't get the benefit of the shifting options, and then there's the Brose motor, there's still the conundrum of do you purchase your preferred ststem or, do you buy.your preferred bike brand, personally for me it's bike brand first.
@@islandaerial3414 you've got some big jumps on a 9 or 10 speed cassette if you want a 500% range - negated by the motor assistance to a degree, but it still makes the changes more clunky and you'd notice the cadence change more too. I agree a 10 speed transmission is likely to be a bit more robust/last longer than a 12 speed designed for non-assisted bikes, but a lot of that can be negated by changing gears sympathetically and not mashing the pedals everywhere... Ultimately though - as other people have suggested - dragging a chain across a concentric set of cogs is a pretty rudimentary way of changing gears on a bicycle - a 10 speed gearbox style transmission is likely to become the standard for eMTBs over the next few years I suspect.
Wow Steve these are becoming more and more pure advertisements. Amazed how much different Mike Kaizmier from pinkbike feels about autostart. His views made a lot more sense to me. I am becoming very dissallusioned with this show
about damn time, but the only thing I don't like is the assumption that we only need SRAM's 2 calibration profiles, one of the nice things about brose, and specialized, is the ability to moderately tweak the calibration "tune" of the power unit to suit the riders needs. One other concern I have is just the dominance that SRAM has over the industry, which in one part is good because you can have everything interoperate with each other, but like all monopoly's (unless they have good opensource community support) it makes the consumer not able to have options for 3rd party products if they chose to. One last comment; the AXS controllers aren't horrible but, would like to see a more robust and clean handlebar controller that doesn't look like a ball sac hanging off my bars, like you see on the receiver hitch on trucks. Once again its about options, so if brose/sram offer options to use 3rd party designs for controllers, then everyone will benefit.
SRAM add some patents showing the battery above and around the engine, avg around 400/500W. A bit disapoiting to see it's a copy of all other engines. And 2 modes? Really?
One of the things that makes SRAM's new system unique compared to other systems is that it integrates with SRAM's system...how did you say that with a straight face?! 😆
It's a very nice machine, looks amazing in white too and some excellent tech to boot.... but I won't be ordering one. I'll be going to a brand that offers me a Full 29er option. So fed up with the manufactuers forcing the mixed wheel size on us. Sad, because I love my current Nukeproof Mega and it's a great bike, but I'm not parting the better part £7k unless I can have both wheels the same size, than you very much.
SRAM has rendered Shimano irrelevant once again. Why would anyone buy anything Shimano these days? SRAM has better groupsets, better app integration, the best mtb and gravel groupsets, the best powermeters, crankarms that don't delaminate and are not dangerous...
Not really going to need that auto shift on those trails professionals smoking down red trails not sure ! a great bike not whinging that's the price of an entry level fiesta hatchback would imagine 🤔

This doesn't really sound groundbreaking to me. Auto-/coast shift seems similar to Auto/- free shift from shimano. The lever design might be good but isn't new by any means and for the assist they market having less as an innovation. The drivetrain has also been already introduced. I get it, scram catched up, but there isn't much innovation most of it being software.
The only thing holding me back is the S Mag motor, I'm not convinced the belt is fit for purpose @ 90nm. That's the game changer for me. So I'm holding back until SRAM adopts the new Brose Drive3 system as their new powertrain.
the problem is a pinion style integration means less money. Sram bothered to do all of this to get more money. It would not make any sense for them to go into a direction that brings them less money.
