Hiking The Ullswater Way - Lake District (highlights)

- The Ullswater Way is a 32km walking route that circles around the entire length of Ullswater Lake. This popular low level hiking challenge takes you through some of the most scenic and picturesque views in the whole of England. Around every corner and over each hill climb, we were treated to stunning scenes of beautiful wildlife.
After parking our car in Pooley Bridge (£8 for 48 hours), we set off clockwise along the southern edge of the Lake, towards our camp stop for the night - Gillside Campsite in Glenridding.
The following day we packed up and started out on the second leg, heading back towards Pooley Bridge. This section also included a detour through the spectacular Aira Force park and gardens.
Although our route didn’t take on some of the Lake’s more impressive peaks, the rocky and wet terrain still made progress challenging in places. Coupled with the strain of heavy packs full of camping gear and food.
There is also the option to only walk half the route, or certain sections - as the frequent steamer boat services link Pooley Bridge - Howtown - Glenridding - Aira Force. Alternatively you can easily catch a public bus along the main road that runs along the northern edge of the Lake.
