  • A film documenting the 440km trek through the arctic wilderness of northern Sweden.
Setting off in September 2015 from Abisko Mountain Station, we spent the next 30 days heading south for the finish line in Hemavan, encountering many wondrous sights and life changing moments along the way.

He's a very kind man, and he made our start on the Padjelenta Trail awesome last June. He was very welcoming and gave us an amazing detour to the trail head. He knows a lot and provided us with loads of info and facts! His wife was was very helpful as well, especially in our preparations beforehand. Beautiful people.

I'm just back from completing the 450 km Kungsleden, camping mainly near STF huts which are excellent, with camping, use of kitchen and gas and saunas when available all for 100kr.. Watching your video beforehand was so useful as I'd not expected winter conditions. Like you, I found food outlets closing for the season by Sept 10th. (Adolfstromm, Bavaholmen) ferries stopping by Sept 20th and STF huts closed on Sept 23rd. It's essential to begin the trek by mid August in my view otherwise it can get quite tough. My experiences were very similar to yours with a lot of heavy rain, sleet and snow but overall it was a fantastic wilderness adventure. A Credit card is essential as buses and some outlets only accept them and not cash. I hardly saw anyone from Kvikkjok to Amannas, only herds of reindeer and occasionally an Elk. Thank you very much. John

I was so excited to see the man at 26:45, to me (a Swede) he is a national fucking hero! He was part of an old news report from Kvikkjokk when it was like -50 in the winter, where he straight up looked like an unbothered icicle coupled with that FANTASTIC dialect, didn't expect to see him in this video :-D

I did the Kungsleden with two of my friends a year ago from Saltoluokta to Kvikkjok. The scenery was stunning and though my friends prefered to sleep in the tent, while I prefered to sleep in the cabin, I did enjoy every mile of it.
We met some great people on the way and were able to look upon the best of Europe's nature. I don't know if I'm ever going to do it again. Maybe someday with my brother. That will be a great bonding trip.
Regrettably we did not see the Northern Lights like you guys did as we did the trip mid-August. One of my friends went back with his family and did the trip by dog sled in April and they were able to see the Northern Lights.
This being said, I enjoyed watching your video. Rewatching the scenery makes the best memories jump back to mind. Luckily one forgets the downsides (such as your blisters or tendonitis) and remembers the beautiful mountains, rolling hills and ice cold lakes

Wow! Stunning. I never imagined I'd see such cinematography in the "holiday film" genre. Every single shot is beautifully composed, with some flashes of creative genius (e.g. the underwater cup shot). The monologues to the camera feel so natural and related. The whole thing comes together in a gripping story. An absolute delight to watch. I'd love to see the "making of" film - as I'm guessing the film making aspect of the holiday was no less challenging, exciting and storyful as the hiking aspect. But that's another story. Thank you so much for making this!

What an amazing documentary and I loved every second , I really hope that a channel (discovery or other) pick this up and sponsor you on future travels.
Very professional indeed....I loved it and showing the setting of the camera on the final shot was brilliant as it shows how involved and time consuming that making a film like this is, I work in TV so understand what is involved.
Been itching to watch this but I've been in Cornwall and Devon for the last week with little or no wifi and I wasn't going to spoil my experience of this amazing documentary by watching in low or no signal quality. Thank you so much 😀😀 and I hope we meet sometime 👍

I completed the Camino de Santiago last summer and for the past 9 months I have been looking for inspiration for another month-plus journey. So I have to thank you for that
I have one question for you or anyone who has completed the Kungsleden, do you see many solo hikers? And would you recommend hiking alone? I did start the Camino on my own, but everyone is like a family on the way.
    Thanks again!

I also hiked the Camino alone, and arrived back home just 2 weeks ago, finding myself watching videos like this all the time... ready for the next adventure asap. Nice to find a fellow pilgrim!

Wow, what an epic hike! Well done! Beautiful filming and editing work too! I picked up the hint from your last 'Portuguese barn' episode of 2020!
I've been around all the Scandinavian countries on my travels, even lived in Denmark for a year. I love it up there! - Happy New Year 2021, re-opened borders, open roads and new adventures!

It is actually spelled "lax" in Sweedish... "Öring" is Sweedish for "trout". Dont know that other name though...

Roman Kvitka we're not 'lightweights' because we chose to do the Kungsleden at a leisurely pace, we could have done it a lot faster but then we would have had to rush so what's the point?!

Oh man, that movie was garbage. They could at least tried to make the scenery look like it does. I have hiked the Kungsleden few years ago, and visited Abisko many times. It's a hike I strongly recommend to anyone who's interested. The scenery is absolutely stunning, as beautifull as it gets. Sure, the dark dirty forest makes for a better horror movie, it was filmed in Poland if i remember right (?), why didnt they just base the movie there then? Pfff......

"What country are you from?" asked the tour guide. "We're from Germany, " said the German couple. "We're from England," said the English couple. "I'm from California," said the American. If we hadn't help win two World Wars, would any European be able to tolerate us?

    • @Gunk55
      @Gunk55 Год назад +4

I have done a lot of traveling and agree that it is easy to pick out people from the United States. That being said, we do identify with our states like Europeans do with their countries. We have so much more land mass that it makes sense. You can see numerous countries in an 8 hour drive much like you can see multiple states (depending on region).
We should all tolerate people and different cultures... Even our own. Each culture has it's own qwerks... Americans... Even our term is a bit arrogant ... Have gotten a bad reputation. I still believe that we as a people are loving and tolerant.
