I was stationed there from 1970-1972. The draft ended and I returned home. Very pleasant memories of all the adventures, war games, red alerts and deployments. Beautiful town and great opportunities to travel. I worked in the motorpool as a mechanic. I could write a whole book about my experiences there.

Yeah you right so much to do then so much to get into. Plenty trouble chasing young girls fighting mini bike bikers in Bad Kissengen.

I was there in Hq Trp 2/14 A.C, I was in the Fuel and Lube Platoon. I served there for two years seven months and eleven days. i loved it there. I am sure glad i never had to go to Viet Nam. I was there on vacation 1989. I miss Bad Kissingen. I would'nt trade the experience of serving there for any thing. It was a very important and meaningful part of my life.

thanks for posting this piece of history. i grew up in bad kissingen as a kid in the late 70s/80s. for us german kids, there was always sense of wonder when your tanks drove by (to or from the daley barracks). usually, we would wave our hands in joy, getting waves back and a smile.
maybe it's interesting to know: today, in the daley barracks, there is a youth center (thus, the building in 0:36 triggers lots of my memories :) ) , a cinema and a police station.
thx & have a nice day,
    thomas

Thomas, every time I drove my track whether leaving or coming back to the Post, I would always wave at the children while passing them by. I did the same for all of the children whenever I saw them. And, when I couldn't take my hands off of the steering controls, I would look in the direction of the kids and raise my head up and nod in order to let them know that I saw them.

Wow, most of you were there long before my time. I was born in Bad Kissingen in 1982 to a German mother and a Samoan father. My mom's side of the family still lives in Schweinfurt. I also lived in a small village called Nudlingen before moving to the states when I was 12. All of these places are atleast 1,000yrs old, a lot of history and a lot of US Military history also. My father got orders for Baumholder(Straussberg Kaserne)after 3 years in the states, that would be the last area we would be stationed at in Germany. I recently looked up Straussberg Kaserne in Idar Oberstein which had been closed down since 2008-2009, brought back alot of memories.

I was in the 2/14 Armored Cav, stationed at Daley Barracks in BK from Jan 1970 to July 1971. Our unit did border duty in Coburg and Bad Neustadt. I personally had all my border tours in Coburg. Those were some of the best times over there. Two guys that I have very fond memories of are Art Maki and Steve Chenoweth. If by some remote possibility they (or anyone that knew them) should happen to read this, I'd love to hear from you on this site.

The history in all these places is very interesting, I would love to see a documentary on these places and the people who have lived there. Although, this documentary would have to be a series to do it any justice.

I can say this lovingly most beautiful place I’ve ever been and did not know DEER could be so little but Bad is an understatement bout these little creatures we had plenty woke up one morning sleeping in ready room went outside left door open played ever loving hell trying to get that DEER out of ready room woke everyone up including unit commander thought I was gonna catch holy hell got a head rub big sign on door do not leave door open never paid no attention till then. Grand times man. Thanks for being one of us GOD BLESS!!!!
