A little clip I took this afternoon at the Former Ford plant in Mahwah. This would have been the employee bridge over the Ramapo leading to the employee parking lot just over the bridge and across the former spur. You can see the Sheraton in the clip for reference. No water sports this time.

Riding the O&W - 05/26/14

A clip from my ride yesterday between Wurtsboro and Summitville with a detour at the Lead/Zinc mine. The quality is not the greatest since it was done impromptu with my Galaxy, but I thought it was still cool to show the ROW from a different perspective. The video does get wavy, from some interference coming from the bike, but is still watchable. So hold on tight and enjoy the ride from Lead mi...

The old and weary in its day was a fascinating railroad with the main line of the south and branch line look of the north

We had property in Livinston Manor, between Liberty and Roscoe where the road bed crossed over the little Beaverkill. My cousins and I used to sit with our feet hanging over the edge of the old bridge abutment by the river. There were still some old ripped up railroad ties with moss all over them and tons of cinder. This was in the early to mid 70's. I was too young to have had the privilege of seeing this railroad in action, but the O&W is truly a fairy-tale storybook railroad twisting and turning through hills and valleys, over bridges and rivers and through tunnels, just absolutely amazing.

Wow, most of you were there long before my time. I was born in Bad Kissingen in 1982 to a German mother and a Samoan father. My mom's side of the family still lives in Schweinfurt. I also lived in a small village called Nudlingen before moving to the states when I was 12. All of these places are atleast 1,000yrs old, a lot of history and a lot of US Military history also. My father got orders for Baumholder(Straussberg Kaserne)after 3 years in the states, that would be the last area we would be stationed at in Germany. I recently looked up Straussberg Kaserne in Idar Oberstein which had been closed down since 2008-2009, brought back alot of memories.

This is an awesome video.I grew up right next to the tracks in wurtsboro. My dad used to tell me stories about them riding the tracks on their 3 & 4 wheelers and camping in the campground in the 80s and 90s. I was born in 91 and by the time I could ride they made it illiegal to ride the tracks and the summitville sand pits. So I spent my time getting chased by DEC on my dirt bike. I wish I got to experience riding and camping down their when it was legal.

This video is a nice study of the underside of that bridge for those who would like to model it. As a kid in the 1970's, I used to spend a lot of time hanging out on that Ford Plant spur. I remember the switch engine in Erie Lackawanna paint constantly shuffling autoracks about. One distinct memory I have was on the west end of that bridge. A few light engines appeared coming from Hillburn Yard. I remember yelling "Conrail" as we headed for cover in the weeds to hide. The engines were still in PC black.

I still remember the first time I drove up there on my own....I was kinda wing it .it was only two roads from my north jersey home....I was driving and driving, not sure if I was close or not then u see it that unmistakable big giant barn side, and u know that u found it,we got there early in the morning I had my own private jet that I flew in called my 1972 Barracuda just a 318v8 but I may it in 45 minutes, what I found out later was a three hour drive at legal speed limits, like I said jet...there is nothing like our American highways and a NICKEL PLATED AMERICAN V8 WITH A LITTLE HORSEPOWER,at nite the roads are empty vacant and a joy to drive on when there are zero cars or traffic....THANKS great video, this is hey dey for sure...Marty Smith I have only seen stills of him in MXA.

I don't want anyone to thing I'm old fashion, may be old school...but I really think Unadilla should go back to the original layout they can do whatever they want with the dirt mix jumps and so on,but these two switch backs are nice little esses that put the stress on finesse and it disrupts the flow that is why it needs to be part of the national layout because when it get rained on a slipperier as they say in England these little switch backs become a whole different game in very wet conditions,a little European flavor u could say,if the promoters don't get it too bad they are not paying attention they have already stripped dilla of its grass for what ever the reason grass is the ultimate motocross dirt of choice and Unadilla is the only track in the USA. That had that great grass mix that gives u traction like nothing else when the grass gets all mix in....but not any more...beside the place just looks better green...I used to live not far,and have been there 4 or 5 times, first time 78 ish and the grass was still around,it was a little crazy if u spent the whole 3 days there....I'm kind of glad that part is over,it must have been what MX was like in Roman times drunks and togas laying all over,no plumbing couches on fire ever where, just kidding.it needed a little class upgrade Ward was probably getting a little fed up with his spectators,it was out of control...not our best display of American support for racing motocross...

I'm familiar with the Ringwood area. I grew up in the Midvale section of Wanaque from 1951 to 1964. The Erie Railroad came into Wanaque back then. I lived fairly close to the rail yard in Midvale. This was the end of the Greenwood Lake Branch back then. The branch went to Greenwood Lake at one time, but service ended in 1939. Back in the day, the tracks were still in place that went to Greenwood Lake, and a spur to Ringwood. All of the tracks in Wanaque are gone now. The steel trestle that went over the Wanaque River is gone. The rail yard is gone, and the Midvale station is gone. I've been to Ringwood Manor several times, and it's such a beautiful place.

anybody remember the German National barber who worked there in 1970-71? If you got your hair cut after he "drank" his lunch it was like being tortured. I saw one dude almost punch him out when he got too rough with him. Other than him, all good memories, what a beautiful place to be stationed. My family owed one of those seasonal bungalows up in the Hills, on Sunrise Trail, for 60 years, starting in 1925. I used to spend a good deal of time up there from the late 1950s to the mid 1970s. End of the Catskill heyday as a vacation destination... Yet, I was last up there perhaps 10 years ago and was pleasantly surprised to see that the village held up pretty well at that point...

@James Egan..... The RV with the cranking stereo that had the huge speakers on the roof. Every year it was there, music blasting and all of us standing around the big bonfire. Great memories, was there for many years. Nationals and Grand Prix races. The track was so much nicer back then. We would get there on Friday evening and the track would look like a huge hey field. Only after Saturday practice did it start to look like a motocross track.
