Join the Los Angeles Chapter, A.G.O. and the Los Angeles Theatre Organ Society as we join together to host organist Mark Herman at the Wurlitzer in Bandrika Studios.
I'm glad you liked it! I used a matched pair of Neumann km-184 cardioid small-diaphragm condenser mics fed into my Mac with a good quality interface/pre-amp and a tiny bit of EQ applied using Logic Pro X (Apple's digital audio workstation software). The voice from from a lapel mic, and I need to learn how to better avoid sound transfer from the lapel's mic cord rubbing against my jacked. I'm sure there's a RUclips video explaining that...
It may also help that the performance is uploaded and made available rather than being live. Live RUclips feed performances can be plagued with problems stemming the speed of the feed, internet packet delays, collisions etc.
@@markhermanmusic it's such an amazing piece. It reminds me of Mr. Rogers, even though I wasn't alive in that era!!! Well done and for the organ concert too. I'm just starting to learn pipe, someday I will play like you I pray!!!!!
I first became acquainted with this instrument with the end theme to "A house with a clock in it's walls. I had to look it up. There's a great documentary about it and the Bandrika studios other restored self playing items. A must watch. I never tire of listening to the Wurlitzer!
As ever with these recitals, the commentary added to the music. This concert was a great chance to show the versatility of a theatre organ: theatre style and church style in one program. The beauty of streaming: a much wider audience than just LA. I'm in Australia (and have been to LA).
Oh my. I studied organ when a girl. For various reasons I wasn’t able to continue, and I miss it so much. I love the organ because it goes straight to the heart. Thank you for this.
Quite soothing, in what could be best called "interesting times"! Thank You Very Much Mark! Aaand, Thank You Nate for "keeping the lights on" for Mark and sharing your instrument with us!
Brilliant performance Mark!! You really inspired me to practice more 😉 ... and from a technical standpoint I really appreciate your chord (fill) substitutions and your creative modulations ... thanks so much for the “show” ... Merry Christmas!
Mark, we were so blessed in San Diego this weekend to hear you starring mastery of the Austin.....loved the 3 silents last night! as did 1500? other attendees! I started a contact on your website. but can't keep giving up my phone #.....thank you!!! Douglas Gunderson, organ, piano, viola, guitar, recorders and poet of SD CA
You sir have not only mastered this instrument, but have managed to bring the style of all the great theatre organist of the past to life while adding your own unique style. Kudos!! I thoroughly enjoyed this performance.
Fantastic work, Mark! It's very gratifying to know that highly-skilled artists such as yourself are keeping this sound alive, and that you're young enough to ensure many more years of fine theatre organ music to come!
Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful concert. The Christmas concert I usually visited cannot happen this year and your recording replaced the missing Christmas mood.
I have just watched your video and I really enjoyed your playing. Maybe I could see you perform in person. thank you again for an enjoyable video. Jeff
Mark, superb work. The "Dance" is perhaps the best recreation since George's recording, and kudos to you for giving him inspirational credit on "Jingle Bells." The Wurlitzer just can't get any better! Registrations are all on-spot. What a musical treasure you are for our very special--and somewhat overlooked--art. Here's to a great 2021 and a calendar filled with concerts in front of live audiences!
Very nice. Very talented. And I love the arrangements. Thank you for sharing this special gift! With warm wishes of peace, love and hope, from a cold Indiana. ~Michael 😘🙏🏼🎄🎁
Hello Mark, What an absolutely wonderful performance. Incredibly refined and not overdone. The Neumann’s are perfect for this application. Thank you so much for sharing! Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to you sir,
Oh, my goodness -- you are really really good. You bring out the pure soul of theater organ with clever yet heartfelt arrangements and sparkling, beguiling use of PERCUSSIONS.
Thank you Mark, of all the virtual Christmas concerts I've watched recently this is far-and -away my favourite. Superbly played and the Wurlitzer sounds fantastic. Huge thanks and a very merry Christmas to everyone involved.
Love the sound and music. When I was in college, 50 years ago, I helped work on three different theatre pipes organs, although I don't play any keyboards. I did all sorts or electrical work. Sadly all three theatre are now torn down and the organs lost to all.
Beautiful concert and great organ! Thanks Mark Herman!
Very nice! Great old instruments! Mark Herman is a very talented and sensitive artiste!
A blessed Christmas to you Mark. Your talent is truly awesome and so uplifting....especially Santa Klaus is coming to town.
I’m glad to have discovered this amazing music from a place where every organ is in a church, and virtually no theater organs here
The audio quality is excellent; better than any of the other LA AGO on-line recitals. No distortion!

@@markhermanmusic Hello sir how are you doing? Quick question, what was that piano intro and outro from the video?

@@denniskwarteng5858 Hi Dennis -- Yes that is indeed me playing the piano.

Mark Herman is one of the best! Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Mark is the best! So talented yet a really nice guy too.
An entire recital memorized. Amazing. Very great performance. Not to mention that the cymbal rolls crescendo and decrescendo. Impressive.
I love the chord progressions, key changes, and pedal pedal medolidies.
Lovely performance and GORGEOUS organ!!
Thank you Mark for a wonderful program and tasteful arrangements. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Much of the Jungle Bells arraignment was GW's.
Can anybody tell me who GW is?
@@harryvandongen7068 GW is George Wright. Perform a google search: George Wright Organ. You will then know.
Superb. Thank You!

Exceptional musicianship heard here. Not just showmanship. Superb balanced arrangements, too. Very well done.
Greetings from snowy Upstate New York. Nice job Mark. Thanks to Nathan Happy Holidays
Awesome arrangements, Mark! Superb sound!
Lovely, as always, Mark. It gets better and better. Have a great break and happy healthy time, you two.
One of the best organists in my view
Hi from down under. Just loved it.
Humans have yet to invent a more versatile & wonderful instrument operated by a single person than the theater pipe organ
Brilliant performance Mark!! You really inspired me to practice more 😉 ... and from a technical standpoint I really appreciate your chord (fill) substitutions and your creative modulations ... thanks so much for the “show” ... Merry Christmas!
You are as good as George Wright ever was! Thank you Mark

Its a shame most people associate silent films with beaten-up, saloon pianos, rather than the majestic organs that were in palaces
Absolutely great playing, and the sound quality was quite decent. Very enjoyable. Thank you.

Wonderfull instrument and great playing
Hello from Easton, CT
This instrument has a great celeste stop. The Vox humana is very good too. Great concert and very enjoyable. Clearly expert musicianship.
There are two of each! Both the Main and Solo divisions have their own celeste pairs and Vox Humana.
@@LosAngelesAGO It certainly is a great instrument. So glad it is again in a studio setting where it can really shine on electronic recordings.
That was a wonderful concert. Thank you.
Bravo!

Your giftedness is enormous thank you, Merry Christmas and blessed 2021 to you and by the way is there such a thing as a Theater Organ keyboard

wow - so gorgeous! The organ is nice too!
Terrific camera work.Let’s you really see Mark’s wonderful technique.
And PS: The Andrews Sisters have tons of songs that would be great on the theatre organ! Should have opened with this!!! 😇
Bravo!!!!!

Mark, Ma nishma? Can I interest you in a vacuum tube amplified Wurlitzer spinet fully equipped with it's original wind-blown reed package? ;)
No! :-)
does this have synth strings or is a servoplayed violins, cellos and that things, or are the pipes itself?
I was thinking on orchestrion style
Everything you heard is from pipes, except for the percussion. The percussion is actual instruments, played pneumatically.
1000th 🎁🎄
the human choir sounding is a synth?
