"All right, so why are there so few serial killers in Mexico?" JJ asked as she changed the subject back to it.
"They probably have as many as we do, but they document almost none of them." Hotch told her.
    "Why is that?"
"It's the Chikatilo syndrome." Gideon said.
    "The what?"
"Andre Chikatilo. One of the most prolific serial killer of the 20th century. By the time they found him, he had killed more than 50 people." Reid explained.
"He was no more experienced than any average serial killer, but he lived in the Soviet Ukraine. The soviets were convinced, the serial killer is a uniquely American phenomenon. Inevitable result of decadent capitalism." Gideon added.

The one good thing that came from this case was the psychologist showing the police up and demonstrating why the way police generally do things is useless.

Wow ,what a monster and to think he just kept getting away with it because of an incorrect profile ,and that gave him time to get better at it ,so thank God he was caught and as for his victims , I hope at least a good few haunt him while he is awake and sleeping. What a terrifying way to be tortured and murdered ,and so young ,I cant even imagine the level of fear that brought them it's something from a nightmare, God bless and RIP to all of them.

Excellent movie based on this and case file is 'Citizen X'. Stephen Rea plays the lead forensic investigator, Donald Sutherland the local Soviet Red Army honcho and Max von Sydow ('The Exorcist') was Bukhanovsky the psychiatrist with Jeffrey DeMunn as Chikatilo. Great show, an HBO production, worth a look.
