    Hi thanks for sharing Parsec n Jump, which I have not heard before, would love to see a video comparing the pro n cons (quality, latency, security) of them compared to traditional software like Teamviewer, AnyDesk

    Awesome, thanks for this video it has answered the exact questions I had with video editing remotely:).

    How about a hybrid between #1 and #2? Everything is sync'd apart from the fullres media and is replaced by proxy media that is created on site. Likely this is possible with some fancy software footwork?

    In another video you mentioned some bugs with Synology Drive on demand sync for macOS. What are they?

    Great video! As usual...
    Do you happen to know if a sync between 2 Synology NAS systems is possible if they have different owners and are physically not on the same LAN? For example, a NAS for the video-house in their office, and a NAS at a client's office?

    You mention opening up ports 5000 & 5001, how is this done?

    Your videos have been superb in helping me build my NAS, many thanks
    I have a question if I may.
    I am using 3 x 14tb Toshiba N300 hard disks in a SHR configuration as one data pool, if I was to buy for example a 20tb, I understand that only 14tb can be used but can I utilise the other 6tb and create a second storage pool or is this 6tb just wasted.

    Is there a way for an administrator to see if users updated their home files without using drive? We are using drive right now to do this (which is great). But I was was wondering if there is an option to get notifications of recent user activity just by login as an administrator into DSM?

    My video editors told me that the download speed is too slow for the videos that I upload in the NAS. Am I missing out on something? Does upgrading from 1Gbe to 10Gbe make any difference? I am stuck, currently back to Dropbox but I want to use Synology as it had way more storage… Please help

    Hi there! I think that You've missed the shared folder from NAS, like smb, and editing directly on NAS )

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  Год назад +1

      So SMB only works on a local network (for video editing) its what you use if you use parsec or jump!

    Is it possible to use a RS2423RP+ for remote editing

  • @DavidM2002
    @DavidM2002 Год назад

    Will, for a single remote user, could you create a virtual machine on the NAS and use Remote Desktop Connection into the VM to edit the video ( or do other NAS tasks ) ?

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  Год назад +3

      You would have a very poor experience trying to video edit using the CPU of a NAS

      @@SpaceRexWill My apologies for taking this video off topic but... I found that the video that you did a year or two ago using RDC to connect to a VM was a gem and that's what I do on my home network. Is it possible to remotely access the VM with RDC if I'm using Tailscale as my VPN ?

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  Год назад +1

      Yes! You would just need to install Tailscale on the VM as well then use that IP! works fine for basic stuff, but something like video editing will be very slow

    • @DavidM2002
      @DavidM2002 Год назад +2

      @@SpaceRexWill And that's why we look up to the experts. I never would have thought about the Tailscale on the VM. So many thanks to you for all the value you provide to all of us.

    I tried both Parsec and Jump and had bad results

  • @Israel_Reyes

    So option 2, to sync and editing together, you need your editors to have their own NAS
    OR
    They have to download the content first?

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  Год назад

      You can use drive sync to download to their computer or another Synology

    • @Israel_Reyes
      @Israel_Reyes Год назад

      @@SpaceRexWill thanks! So they'll probably need a big storage space to access the content in their shared drive then?... Do they need to have fast internet to edit 4k+ footage? or how fast does internet need to be?
