The reason you cant find the heart of Manukau is because it just grew from nothing. The first thing there was the big ass Manukau Centre City Mall, all on its own, in the middle of rural nothing! It was sooo weird
Manukau has always been like that, even when I was a kid like 30 years ago, it was always about the mall and rainbows end and the maccas.... there is no central highstreet.
Agreed. I remember when the mall was newly opened in the mid-70s and surrounded by farmland. The mall is the centre, and then Rainbows End opened next to it in 1982. Exciting stuff!

Then Woolworths owners bought out the Countdown supermarkets and rebranded all the Woolworths "Countdown". Now they're spending tons of money rebranding the entire lot Woolworths! Yeah, when you have too much profit!

Actually Otahuhu isn't part of Manukau City council. It's part of Auckland council making it more of a Central suburb then South. However it is unofficially classed South Auckland.
