Great to watch your adventure again. However, I must say it's different from the time before you two had your little one; I love to watch your little princess rather than the food - that comes second. She always put a smile on my face.
You guys are really enjoying the food and it shows! Nothing like taking your time now and stopping off these local businesses to taste their offerings! I see the baby wishing she could taste that lemon meringue tart!🥰
You guy's have done an amazing job of not just showing us the food and the locations but also your commentary was on point as well, so ka pai and well done!
Hard to know what i love most out of this video guys. Probably a shout out to all these proprietors who constantly bring us such high quality food , up and down the country. Mussel Fritters are a weakness of mine. Thanks yet again Thomas & Sheena.
I drive past the oyster place often and never stop in purely because of the look and what I’ve heard. I’m grateful you have reviewed this. I love oysters so much I’ll stop here more on my way home to Russell. Thank you!
Yeah, baby...road trip! This is a golden video, guys, combining beautiful vistas and tasty food. I'm usually jealous of your exotic food ventures, but this time, I have a couple of good equivalents locally. There are both an excellent seafood shack where I can get fried oysters, and a really good sweet shop that serves amazing cakes and pies. I had one of their apple pies with my morning coffee today. That's the way to start a Saturday! And seeing your smiling faces is a great way to end it.
So good to get recommendations for places that are local to me. I knew of these lovely spots, but haven’t visited in a while, well, next days off! Cheers guys, love from the Bay of Islands!
Great plan 😍 we always think, we’ll pop in next time and never do so thought this time we WILL stop! We’ll be stopping more often from now on I reckon- they’re all worth it! Thanks for watching and big love to you in the BOI 💜 Cheers, Sheena
I drove past that oyster factory last month!! I would've stopped in but it was closed because it was late in the evening😟 so glad to see you both went in shame the oysters weren't very fat but I know how good the would have tasted 😋😋 is nice to see you doing the road trip North yarmmy mussell fritters and the pastries looked devine 😋👌thankyou for taking us with you can't wait for the next adventure 💛💚💞
Thanks for watching Lisa! We’re totally returning once the season properly begins- they’re so great. Hope you enjoy what we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena
I'm looking around for my next driving holiday and thinking about a trip from Cape Reinga to Bluff via highway 1. If you had a video with a nice itinerary - including stops for great seafood and meat pies, I'd be stoked. Just an idea. Maybe a collab with southern friends if need be.
Hi there. We filmed a series just like that a few years ago. We did the whole country in a camper van starting at the Cape and finishing in Bluff. Check out the videos. We’d love to do it again but would need funding first. It’s not a cheap, or easy, thing to just throw together. If you’ve got some connections for funding hit us up 😉 Cheers, Thomas
@@ChasingaPlate Sorry. I definitely watched your series when it was new and I've been rewatching quite a few. I've firmed up plans to take a 3 week trip around the south island next April - timed in particular for Bluff oyster season. I had an idea in my head that I didn't really explain about a distinction between road food and regional food. I've just got home from a 700km each way trip to see my mum for Christmas. It's mostly the Hume and Pacific highways and they have become such well developed, almost American style freeways, that it seems easiest to stop for McDonalds or a service station sandwich. I was looking for ideas to avoid that problem but it seems like it doesn't really exist in NZ - especially in the south.
I want to see inside the case. Are the oysters shucked to order or are pre-shucked in the case? In the US fresh oysters are usually shucked to order. Everywhere I've seen oysters for sale in NZ, even at fish shops, they have been shucked before arriving. In places like California or Oregon, you go to any oyster restaurant or factory and you'll be able to buy them closed and bring them home to shuck yourself (or have them shucked just before being served to you) Never been to an oyster factory in NZ so I'm curious.
They pre-shuck a couple of boxes to have in the window but if you were ordering more than that or if they get busy they’d shuck them on the spot for you. It’s the factory shop so they’re shucking constantly. But you’re right, it’s most common for them to be pre-shucked here in the shops in NZ and at the markets in Australia too. Neat that they shuck them to order in California and Oregon 😍 thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
Are you paid by these restaurants? Just wondering as we had a different experience at another you recommended. I love your reviews which arr great and each persons experience will be different. We went to Timmur which was nice but didn't have the pizzang from your review.
Hi Susan, no we pay our own way 😄 And if we’re working with a tourism board or business association to promote restaurants (of our choice) we always disclose this. That’s a shame about your experience at Timmur- what did you have? We can only speak for the dishes we had- all of them off the Nepali section- they were seriously great. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
Wish I had seen this video before going to Northland, I really wanted to try kina and oysters but I didnt see any! We absolutely LOVED Northland and will be back. We vlogged our adventure over on our channel if you want to check it out 😊
Great to watch your adventure again. However, I must say it's different from the time before you two had your little one; I love to watch your little princess rather than the food - that comes second. She always put a smile on my face.

Zadie looks so cute and has a resemblance to actor Adam Wylie (one of the kid actors on the movie Kindergarten Cop).
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that movie- I LOVED it as a kid 😆 thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena
