73' Squarebody Short Bed Conversion

- Converting my 1973 Squarebody to a short bed. I cut the frame in half and welded it back up. It was def a little nerve racking having my truck in half but i think it turned out good.

Cutting on an angle was the best idea. It gives you about 40 percent more contact surface thus making it a stronger weld. I do love your knives and as soon as I can explain the cost to my wife I'll get one.. lol give me time.

Great job on that frame cut. Myself would of gone with a bigger fish plate but still that is the proper way. Id trust that work you did. Nice.

Got a queston for you. Why go with a shorter bed? I can only see positives with having more space? Just wanting to understand your thought process is all. Looking great btw! excited to see more progress and may have to copy you oen day lol
With the suspension set up I’m going with. I need a shorter wheel base. I went from 160” to 145”.

You should do a duramax swap instead of a LS thatd be badass
Take it from someone that spent entire career modifying train car frames…angle cuts or zig zags are unnecessary with proper football plates. Yes they look cool. Measure 3 times and cut straight 1 time. Try to avoid using any fish plates with pointed ends…it creates a weak spot. Football plate or oval shape are best.

Ply wood floor and $200 Amazon car tent.
What was end result wheel base center hub to center hub?
It is about 145” now.
Did you have to cut any off the back of the frame?
Yeah. But I did that very last to make sure it fit the bed size.

Are you putting a actual short bed back on or shortening your long bed. If an actual short bed, you will find there is a 14" difference in wheelbase not 15"
