That was the most perfect baby boomer ombre ive ever seen. My friend just got hers professionally done and you can see the line and they did not use very good natural colors! She was not very happy. I filed her top coat on her ring finger and did some glitter ombre over it just to spruce it up and she loved it! It made it look so much better and as she said "not so boring". Your ombre technique looked easy and just amazing! Love your videos as always
The more I see dipping and now the ombre effect, the more confident I am of trying both out. I am another who is over critical when I do my nails, that means I haven't been doing them so much anymore. With being able to buy the Soft Gel tips, I can't wait for everything to arrive to start playing again.
Great job Melissa! That was a very easy approach to ombre dip! I have always shied away from this method because I'm so obsessed to get it right (and I always feel so critical of it when I'm done) but this really does make me want to give it another go.. Well done babe! Hope you have a sweet valentine's day 😘❤ Xoxox from FL
hi just caught your video very helpful great product color choices worked really well together and i like your method best baby boomer video i've seen yet ! thanks 😊
I selected this video due to the FLAWLESS ombre effect. Absolutely stunning!! Quick question: does doing the scrub method mess up the bristles on the brush? If so, do you just soak in acetone?
Stunning!!! My kind of nails lol. I love pink but I don’t like it as a my nails but better color. The peachy pink dip you used was beautiful and I’d love to try that one out 😍😍
You’re very welcome 😊 quick question I would like to start dipping again “at home” of course but my nails have old indents from previous manicure that have been 4 weeks old and a very flat like peeling on my nail bed. Now I’ve been trying to buff them to get my nail bed smooth but I can only buff so much cuz my nails are now thin. So the question what do think I should do in order for my manicure to stay for weeks and not lifting? Or should I not worry so much about it I can just use a hydrator and prep bond?
Good prep, so removal of invisible cuticle, buffing off the shine, dehydrator and primer. That's a good place to start with prep. Avoid oil or touching your bare nail before application ( adding oils can cause lifting). If your nails are damaged from proir lifting I would be careful buffing the nail plate too much. You should make sure to remove your dip when it starts to lift or crack or it can tear at the nail plate like that causing the "flaky" look
@@MelissasManis ok thank you I tried the ombré for the first time three days ago and it came out horrible. So what is trick here . I have modelones dip power and my nails are short. Do I need longer nails or do I need a different special liquid?
Probably should of watched this video before I did my friends nails last night lol they came out cute though I did the ombré part after the last layer since I built up the nail withstand nude dip color capped in clear as I was filing the ombré part on some nails came off on the sides probably would of been better to do the layers like you! Now I know 😆 these are really cute!
Would love to know how long you can wear a set when you use peel base. Peel base seems like a great idea but after putting in so much work, I’d love to get a couple weeks out of them. Is peel base for less than a week wear?
@@MelissasManis I don't have instagram or personal utube.. but if u have pinterest you should create one so we can post what ur subscribers tried🤗I learned my FIRST marble and tried it and came out decent!!!
Out of all of the baby boomer nail tutorials on RUclips, this is definitely the best!! I have to build an apex because I have flat nails, do you recommend building the apex with a few layers of the pure white and then work on the ombre layers?
You def make it look so easy! It's so beautiful! Can you please make a video about your best and worst purchase as far as base coat and top coat go? Or you only use double dipp's for both because it's your go-to?
It's definitely my go-to! I have used probably 20 liquid brands. Everyone has preferences as far as base qualities so I can't say "worst" I could only say the ones that aren't the thickness or drying time I prefer. Top coat is different and Double Dipp'd is hands down one of the best.
@@MelissasManis Appreciate your response! I'll look into them. I'm legit a newbie. I normally do my own nails using the "gel-like" nail polish, but just recently I had my nails done professionally (dip powder). I'm liking the idea of a dip powder rather than acrylics (had them before, not a fan lol). Anyway, a lot of the RUclipsrs I've came across are using the products that they were partnered with so it's difficult to determine whether they actually like it or not lol I basically don't want to waste time and money purchasing these products that would only end up in my storage.

It is but you may accidentally buff off some of the pigment you scrubbed on. If you're going to file I'd definitely top with a layer of something to protect.
I kept seeing scrub method mentioned in FB groups so I finally searched it. This is awesome! I definitely want to try it because I don't like the other method I tried, it's too frustrating to me. Are you using gel top coat? I only have the EZ liquids from Revel since (I think) gel requires a lamp and I don't have one (yet).
Beautiful mani, but I was wondering if there is a recipe to make your own milky white dip powder, as I haven't any but I do own white & clear, what would be the ratio to make it lok
You make it look so easy. I think I have pinky pink and it is super sheer. I didn't think a sheer pigment could stain a white. I also have Got milk too.
Would you recommend the hard builder gel underneath dip so it doesn't come off in acetone and when it's under dip powder to protect and strengthen the nails? Mine are paper thin after soaking off
Depends mostly on your liquids and how quickly they dry, but also on how thick a coat you put on with the base. I can't say my exact timing but probably 10 seconds or so. Just until the layer doesn't move anymore. About as long as you'd wait to brush off excess
I think because it was a popular style in the baby boomer years. That's just what it's called 🤷♀️ French nails were popular in the 40s and this look evolved from that 😊 And thank you!

Are you using gel top coat? I only have the EZ liquids from Revel since (I think) gel requires a lamp and I don't have one (yet).
Nope! I usually use dip top coat unless it can't be avoided :)
Beautiful mani, but I was wondering if there is a recipe to make your own milky white dip powder, as I haven't any but I do own white & clear, what would be the ratio to make it lok
Yes you absolutely can. I usually say 30/70 white to clear is a good starting point and you can always adjust if it's too sheer :)
@@MelissasManis thank-you so much, I will definitely try lol
You make it look so easy. I think I have pinky pink and it is super sheer. I didn't think a sheer pigment could stain a white. I also have Got milk too.
I was worried it wouldn't also, but it worked out fine! Just took a little more scrubbing then for a more pigmented color
And this was really easy! The layering helps the blend :)
when rubbing the pink color onto the white color, do you apply the base and then start rubbing or no base necessary?
I rub it into the layer of white I'd dipped. It kind of just transfers pigment
What if I want to use a white chunky glitter . It won't look right ?
Would you recommend the hard builder gel underneath dip so it doesn't come off in acetone and when it's under dip powder to protect and strengthen the nails? Mine are paper thin after soaking off
Yes! I do this and put the peel base between so I can just pop off the dip and it can't damage my nails. I havent soaked in acetone in over a month!
I think I'll have to try this using the builder gel. Do you use pro forms?
Wish I had a milky white can I use something else or make my own with clear and white?
Yes you can make your own!
@@MelissasManis might try it with clear and white and give it a try .. have u got a v French dip tutorial?
Yay early 😊
Wouldn’t you end up with bulky nail beds and thin tips since you are scrubbing that extra powder onto the bed?
Nope! Scrubbing really just scrubs pigmentation from the darker powder onto the already existing layer of lighter powder.
can you tell me the website this stuff pls!I would like to buy it and to try it too
It's all in the description :)
Did you file to smooth the powder? I saw them to this after they applied the powder to my nails before topcoat
Yes I filed to smooth after the clear dip.
What base are you using ?
I use Double Dipp'd base
Do you scrub the nails off before scrubbing or do you get right in to scrubbing after dipping?
I did brush the nail off before scrubbing. You want the layer to dry enough that your scrubbing into doesn't scrub up the dip.
@@MelissasManis Thank you
DOES YOUR BRUSH GET HARD WHILE YOU’RE DOING THE SCRUB TECHNIQUE? I FEEL LIKE I’M DOING SOMETHING WRONG. 😢
What is the difference between the two white powders?
One is solid and the second is sheer so you can see the layers under a bit. Helps to make the ombre effect smooth.
@@MelissasManis Thank you so much for the clarification! Your nails came out beautiful!! I will most definitely try this method out! 😍💓💅
QUESTION! How do I tell the nail artist this is what I want!?!
Baby boomer nails or French ombre 🥰

It's an old eye shadow brush. I like the small elf ones too
Piękne 😊
How does this scrubbing thing work for her?! It's all goopy and wet still from the dip base so this DID NOT work for me and not sure how it ever could
You have to let it dry a bit before you scrub. If you scrub too soon it will do that.
@@MelissasManis thank you! I waited a bit but it must not have been long enough. how long do you typically wait?
