The directions tell you to put the card on a dark background to scan it. If you wait for the scan to finish instead of going to the downloading page, you'll receive a price.
I'm calling user error, you have to be a little bit smarter than what you're trying to do, you need to lay the card on a dark flat surface, make sure your cameras focused and you're good, look at the thousands and thousands of cards that are uploaded to this app, it works
I like the app I’ve been using it for months I am a collector but when I buy sometimes it’s hundreds of cards at a time just to get a couple that I actually want the rest I sell or trade this is perfect for that
I lay the cards on black felt background, use my studio lights, hold the phone directly over the top of the card and have had zero issues. If I have had an unrecognized card it's usually my fault from moving my hand. I re-snap it and it picks it up just fine. I think that by holding the cards in the air you're picking up background stuff that is throwing off the reader. In the app description I believe it says to photograph your cards against a black background. I've been using this for a couple months while I'm going through my tubs of cards from back in the day. It's slow going. I forgot how many sports cards I have. This will take me a year if I put in 8 hour days and I'm not that patient. My concern is their valuation on certain cards, so sometimes I have to do some crosss-referencing. give it another go with the black background, good lighting, and as close to a straight shot as you can get. I'll bet you'll be surprised.
Yep, I've heard that quite a bit from all the comments. I'm a moron 90% of the time. Haha I'll have to give it another try. Thanks for checking out the vlog. 👍
The app works better if you lay the card on a flat surface to scan the card. There is also an option at the bottom to scan front only or front and back. It's normally good at recognizing the card but not always the set, for example topps vs topps tiffany. Some cards I had to scan front and back to recognize. There is an option you can set for graded cards. However, I haven't tried to scan any with the app. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much. I may give that a try. Did you see the other comment that was left? They mention that Android phones may not work as well as an iPhone. Are you using an iPhone?
I scanned 366 cards the other day before I deleted my account (I already had over 10,000 in there) and it didn't recognize not one single card. Worthless app -5 stars I give it.
I mean, it’s not an app designed for grading. Just downloaded the other day and I’m like the app for running numerous cards through and see which ones pop up with a bit of value, let’s say… Over $0.50? Some people like the numbers as well as the thrill of collecting. For Me however, I buy at random and don’t fully know what I have. Years down the road, I have no idea what I actually have, so I run thru the cards fast with the app and see which ones pop with a value. It doesn’t differ well between base rookies and let’s say prizm rookies though and that can be a huge issue.
I get it, but most are missing my point. I've been collecting since the 70's. I probably have over 50 million cards. I don't have that kind of time. Haha
You may want to read the directions prior to utilizing the app. Works great. I usually scan the front. Lay flat what you want to scan, unless your a secret agent and you don’t have time. Read the directions and try it one more time. Or go get your 8 year old nephew and have him show you. Good luck!
Just started using the app today and it works fine for me it's lay the car down on a flat surface and just take your time and scan it the app is awesome and it recognized every single one of them now I'll go and match the prices to eBay and see how correct it is but the scanning is 100 for me
I made this video back in the Spring and haven't really tried out the app since. I guess I'm old school and don't collect to see the price of how much a card is worth, but more for the cool accomplishments the player may have contributed to baseball.
Plus you were taking the pics wrong if it said you're uploading two cards. One for the front and a different card for the back. Your settings are on front only. I use this app and I absolutely love it. The only thing I don't love about it is that I can't do my massive Garbage Pail Kids card collection on the app. That's it.
Hi again - Just a quick question: Do you have Android or an I phone? I also tried to do some scans on my Android phone. It seems that this App hasn't gotten Android phones to work that well with their system. They say that the App works find on I phones, but not YET on Android Phones. Have a really good day. Barry
Hi Barry. Yea, it's an Android. That's super useful information that would have been nice if they mentioned that in Google Play. Hopefully they can set it up with Android. When they do, I'm happy to give it another try. It is a cool idea and I would love for it to work properly. My only concern is the "actual" value of a card. A scan isn't as accurate as human eyes, or PSA would use it to grade their card inventory.
Well, to be honest, I'm not an expert on how this App works. I tried it out and wasn't too impressed. It's probably great for cataloging your cards, but as far as prices, that's up in the air.

@mib921 from what I've seen, it tells you if it is based on last sale or not. It shows you the last known sales in ebay and other databases, and calculates and adverage if it's a commonly sold card or a last sale if the sales before that exceed a certain time period. It isn't up in the air, it's based off recent online sales, and if it's up in the air, that's because one happened to sell for that high of a price to cause collx to think its worth more. I mean, if It sold for that, then it sold for that! What I'd do is when a card scans and tells me I have a good hit, I'd go into those records on the app to proof check the prices. Most of the time, it's because it was the first one listed in a long time that they sell for so much. I think it's a pretty good app, as long as you're carefull in checking the legitimately of those prices.
No brother. Most sports card collectors collected when they were kids for the fun and love of it. But when we become older, we are very concerned with what the price of those cards have become.

The App is junk. All the prices are highly inaccurate and it doesnt like to recognize any cards with chrome or foil or refractor/prizm cards at all. Those are just the 3 biggest issues with it. Another issue it has is that it misleads ignorant new collectors or people that find a collection at a yard sale thinking they can turn a profit and they all post boxes of junk wax and ask for $3500 after wasting hours or days of thier time soiling themselves everytime CollX gives them an inaccurate price. And when you explain that Collx is junk and how to use ebay search they get offended and think you're the stupid one or that you are trying to swindle them when you say thier box of junk is sadly only worth $50-$100 if you can even find a buyer. The app should be deleted until they choose to turn it into a reall selling app that can base values off sales from the actual app instead of trying to steal the wrong info off of ebay. But cards dont sell on Collx either so it will probably never be useful in that sense either. But if you want a picture catalog of your collection and just ignore the value part it's a great app. But what's the point in that when you own the cards and can look at them when you want to.
My thoughts exactly. I've been collecting for 50 years. Never needed an app before to determine what the value is, or what my cards look like. For 20 years, I used to use an Excel Spreadsheet to catalog my boxes and some specific player's cards, but then it got to be too much.
