    I rode one on Friday and loved it not just for the fast stuff but also touring speed and boring 70 mph motorway. Much more comfortable than I expected and no pains after 90 minutes. Light and easy to ride. I hear less manoeuvrable than the 1290 but after a GSA and Africa Twin Adventure Sport it’s positively nimble. So easy in traffic and the engine very flexible despite it’s high state of tune. The gearbox is sweet and the whole package other than wind protection is good. I placed an order after the test ride! I’ll adjust a few things like lower footrests, bar risers and screen but as a package and with a Touratek top box it’s covered needs and wants. The want is lighter and lower centre of gravity which this certainly has. It’s got big and small bike attributes that work for me. My Africa Twin is a lovely bike but much more than I need and often in the wrong places! My 60 or so miles got 73 mpg (UK gallons) and a mix of all roads and speeds. Amazing.

    Love that you include a slower pace now for us to get a feeling how the bike rides in lower revs like "everyday" mode. KTM are really good to ride, unfortunately for me there are things that prevent me from buying...

    Btw, Schööfl, since I watched this video, it clicked with me what you said about the tires. I had Conti Road Attacks on my SMT and had the same problem with extra effort in leaning into curves and the bike wanting to straighten when decelerating in curves. They even noticed it at the Vorführung/Tüv! I switched to Michelin Pilot Road 5 and it was like night and day. I was completely amazed at the difference. I think if I had an 890 Adventure, I'd also go with the Michelins.

    Dear Schaaf, thank you for your work! I appreciated that and it helped me choosing my next bike. I confess sometimes I'm listening to your rides in my headphones as if it were background music while I am at work! :) Indeed your audio recordings are better than any other, being an audiophile I'm wondering where do you place the camera microphone to avoid all the bad wind and let the engine sound be recorded so clearly...

    A couple questions for you:
    1) Now that you've ridden both the Norden 901 and the KTM 890 Adventure, and that they share the same engine, does the engine character and dynamics of these bikes feel a world apart or would you call them distant cousins?
    2) If I may, I'd like to ask how does (or does not) the character and feel (not response) of the engines compare when we talk about the KTM 890 Adventure and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure? Do they feel like children of the same family or do they feel like cousins (close or distant)?
    3) If we were to talk about the KTM 890 Adventure and the Ducati Multistrada 950/V2, are they comparable? If yes, which one would advance the other on
    a. Touring
    b. Off-roading and trails.
    If not comparable, why?
    I know it's a lot to ask, but I have been planning a bike for some time now, and all these are on the radar, and it's getting difficult getting a lot of answers. Great audio and content though! Thanks for this!

      No worries, if you take the time to write a decent question I'll take the time you write you a decent answer :)
      1) they are not just distant cousins. They are the same. They feel the same.
      2) the character is actually a bit similar since both engines offer a great pull right from the bottom while at the same time offering a bit of a power extra at the top. The 1290 just does it with quite a lot more force.
      3) to me those two feel very different. The Ducati offers better wind protection (although also not perfect) but most importantly its suspension is superior. It does the better job at damping rough surfaces while still providing enough stability to go fast. Offroad however it can't compete with the KTM. The KTM has much better ergonomics for offroading and its engine is easier to control on loose and difficult surfaces.
      I'd take the Ducati without hesitating. But I'm a Ducati fan who's able to admit that the Multi is far away from being perfect. But since I ride roads mostly I'd prefer the Italian ergonomics and suspension performance.
      But if you want to do a fair bit of offroading I'd take the KTM 890 and adapt it towards a bit more comfort.

    Interesting comments about the handling and tires. I have a 790 ADV S and found the handling to be very sharp for a 21" front. The only time it ever felt weird was when I had low tire pressure (~25psi), then it definitely wanted to upright itself in corners. I was also very happy with the Avon tires (which I don't think are really all that cheap to be honest). From a pure road perspective I had as much confidence in them as any naked bike fitted with standard sport rubber. As much as I liked the tires though I am replacing them the Pirelli Rally STR that come on the Norden but only because the Avons were back ordered at the time I ordered new tires, and I think a bit more off-road capability would be nice. I'll be very interested in seeing if I notice a big handling difference.
    As for comfort, yeah the stock bike is left a little wanting but easily fixable....Seat Concepts comfort seat and a slightly larger windscreen and the bike is all day capable.

      Try road orientated ADV tires like the Conti Trail Attack or the Dunlop Meridian and I'm pretty sure you won't go back to the Avons ;)

      I always wondered. What makes you buy a 790 Adv instead of the classic 790? And what difference is there with a 1090 or more. I've never driven a 790/890 ADV so I wonder how they perform truly on the everyday basis

      @@91376481576376545646 By classic 790 do you mean the Duke 790? If that's the case then that's easy, you buy the ADV to have a touring capable bike that can handle some decently rough off-road terrain. I've never ridden a 1090 but I'm guessing the only benefit the 1090 had was more power...which isn't really worth it because the 790/890 ADV are pretty fast already. The 790/890s are terrific for everyday use.

      @@RaceWithTime yes let me explain. I had a 790 duke, and I wanted a trail for all the benefits ( only to go to work but you know be comfortable and have a top case). And I thought well maybe a 1090 would be power equivalent ( meaning i could have fun, go fast etc). And I thought the 790 ADV would be too slow. I have a hard time thinking the Tracer 700/900 are the equivalent of 790/890 ADV. i cant imagine a 790 ADV, having ridden a duke 790. So I’m wondering if I’m just misperceiving it, if its fun and fast etc and how it compares to the bigger 1090/1290 ( comparing whats comparable)

      @@91376481576376545646 The 790/890 Adv won't be quite as fast or handle as well on the road as the Duke but its still plenty fast and handles well. The Adv will be way more capable off road, and will be more comfortable and better to tour with as well. The 1290 Adv S is definitely a better road bike in almost every way but way more expensive. The 790 Adv is a better offroad bike than the larger bikes.

    That Wooowoowooooo resonating sound. Not everyone hears it. I’m glad I found this video. My bike makes this sound as well. It drives me nuts. I was afraid there was something wrong with my bike. Doesn’t anyone else hear it? Or am I like a dog, going crazy to a sound that no one else hears?

    First off, I gotta say how much I appreciate your efforts in making these vids! I've been watching & comparing the 890adv to the Tiger 900 gt (non rally). Would you say between the two that one handles/performs noticeably better on pavement? Coming from a sportbike background into the adv world I still crave cornering prowess. Although I might just cheap out and get a Tiger 660 and continue to practice off road with my ktm 390 adv for now 😅 Either way, any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

      Thanks! The Tiger 900 does everything very well except for going fast. Its ground clearance is too low for high leans and the suspension is setup fairly soft. If you want to travel like a super fast mad man, there is no better alternative to the KTM in this price range

    I believe the 21in front wheel is what causes those cornering characteristics. I do think that nicer tires would help for sure but from my experience with dual sports it can take more input to lean and then stay leaning.

      I doubt it. The Norden 901 for example handles 100% neutral and it's basically the same motorcycle

    Great sound, great performance, great on and off-road capabilities, everything is great except the looks. I want the 2023-2024 version of this with a facelift. The new version looks great. However, I cannot afford to be the first owner of the 2023-2024 version. Unfortunately, in Turkey, it is sold for around 25 thousand US dollars due to high taxes. However, I can buy a 2024 model new 790 adventure. If the 2022 890 adventure had a renewed appearance, I wouldn't mind if it was second-hand, I would buy it immediately. But I really don't like the look of it. What do you think, should I buy the new 2024 model 790 adventure or should I buy a second-hand 2022 model 890 adventure with tech pack on, 3000km used, topcase and all protection bars?

      I‘m still waiting for KTM to bring a „890 SMT“ with a „normal“ tank-config and a small fairing at the front. That‘ll be my weapon of choice for everything.

      @@Thorsten_Kueppers There have been spy shots of the 890 with 17" wheels but the same long suspension and low tank. But KTM has been messing with prototypes of a new SMT since at least 2019, so who knows.

    l did a test ride on KTM 2023 Adv(non R) today, my thoughts exactly while cornering, there is this feeling of needing extra input to lean and stay in the corner, Pirelli Rally STR tires. l do have the same tires on my 2016 Tiger 800 XCA, so its definitely not the tires imo. It is weird because how the center of gravity is so low on this bike due to the tank design. Still so much fun and the 2023 version comes with adjustable suspensions. Thanks for all the videos

      I'm in between the 890 (non r) or some flavor of tiger 800. Mostly road riding, some gravel roads. Do you notice a difference in power or smoothness between the two?

    I have the exact same bike since last december. Not sure about the seat since I think it is very comfortable. And for the windscreen, if you are small just replace it by the R-screen since that one blew all the wind straight on my helmet.
    Not sure why KTM delivered it with those Avon Trailriders, but very great video again!

    Hey Schaaf! I have just started using GoPro 10 + ND filters and I need an advice :) I set it up at 4K / 30 fps / SuperView / ISO min 100 max 400 and my issue is that I still haven't found the right shutter speed to use. If I set it at 1/60 (standard rule of doubling the fps) I get some annoying blurry moments especially when I quickly move my head around to look at mirrors or traffic (gopro mounted on chin). What shutter speed do you use?

      Yes but I use a H2n these days. The only setting that matters is the correct input level and that one is always between 10 - 30 depending on the bike

    Unfortunately a stock 890 ADV R doesn't sound like that in real life. More like a washing machine full of old spanners. The LC8c engine might go like stink, but is well known for a lot of rather unpleasant noise. The microphone and placement filter a lot of this out. If the sound in the video was all I heard from my KTM I'd probably never get off the thing. Nice video, and good recording. Guess I'm going to have to look for that road now. I'm based along the Costa Blanca.

    Ich hab mich am Wochenende auf die ältere 790 gesetzt (890 hatten sie nicht da). Im Vergleich zur 1290 sitzt man oben drauf und ist ergonomisch nicht so gut eingebunden. Die Sitzbank ist wirklich mist. Alles fühlte sich billig an. Das war bei der großen deutlich besser. Nur die Kontaktflächen lassen einen jederzeit wissen "du sitzt auf KTM und das hier ist Plastik". Fand ich n bisschen unwürdig aber der Funktion tut das keinen Abbruch.
    Kurz davor saß ich auf Miltistrada V2 950 und V4. Die v4 hatte leider ne schwammige Sitzfläche. Die 950 war ergonomisch absolut überlegen über allem auf dem ich je gesessen habe. Hotte ich von Ducati nicht erwartet. Dachte die machen nur schick. ^^ Schade, dass es dort neu nur den kleinen Motor gibt. Die v4 war auch n tick zu breit für richtig richtig gute Ergonomie.

    The exhaust sound is not incridible. It would be necessary to start this journey again with an Arrow or Remus Black Hawk exhaust for exemple

      Probably the Norden because as weird as it might sound the Norden is the better deal money-wise. The VFR will come as soon as I have some time to spare. So probably never :D

    The exhaust only sounds good to someone who's ridden this bike. You can hear exactly when you hit the peak power in the revband and it's fuckin electrifying lol. I get my 890 back today, after a year in the shop (I crashed it)
