I always liked how they used Big Chill's similarities with Ghostfreak as a red herring. As a kid i was glad Big Chill didn't end up leaving the Omnitrix too, since he was my favorite of the UAF aliens
Have you seen sea horses? I have a theory that maybe bigchill dna is taken from a male whose wife left some eggs in him for safe keeping, and all of this is just a normal process to hatch them.
Personally I interpreted Ben’s “momma mode” as still being him in control, but he becomes overwhelmed by the urges that come with being a pregnant Necrofriggian. Like he is actually still conscious, but things are like a blur to him, which explains why he can still be in-character even if he isn’t acting normally.
I think it's similar to when some people walk during sleep. Their personality is still intact but they are focused on specific task. And they also don't remember what they were doing.
@@dragonborn7955 Not remembering anything is not the same as experiencing things in a blur. One is about memory and the other is about the actual experience. Just because Ben doesn't remember doesn't mean he wasn't in control. It's like when you get so drunk that you blackout.

I was always disappointed that Ben's kids never made another appearance. You could do so much with the concept. Imagine one shows up moves in, does nothing but eat food and watch TV and Ben has to figure out how to get rid of him, or one tries to be a hero like him but causes a bunch of problems because he doesn't understand human culture.
I half expected the freed Ultimate Big Chill would take in as parent for those kids. In fact, in 80 years, that one might give birth to a new breed of Ultimate Necrofriggians.
@@ghostspider2056 Damn I just realized, Ultimate Big Chill might be the only one of the Ultimate aliens that can actually reproduce and continue his species as they're asexual. Ultimate Humungusaur states he had a mother that tried to eat him, but it seems to be just part of the simulated reality he came from and he's indeed the only one of his species, probably hunted and kill by Khyber as we see his helmet in Khyber's collection. Though I do think it was mentioned somewhere that those helmets are part of the Vaxassaurian army or something. At least I hope so, so he's not extinct

A) I think the reason Ben was the way he was with Kevin was slightly influenced by Big Chill's pregnancy. I mean, it's not out of character for Ben, but he also seems alot more motherly towards Kevin. Making sure his little emo was ready for his date. B) The smile that Ben gave Julie after her comment about him being a mommy, it made me think that they were planning a future with kids. Something I wish we got to see. Damn you Kai! C) The assumption that because BC is a ghost alien, it's something bad happening is something I love and hate. Like, realistic, but that's just straight up discrimination.
For c, at least it's something they realize they were wrong about so that's something! Howerver, I have one big question about this episode: Did Azmuth new something like this could happen? I can't help but feel he should have known. 🤔 If he did thought, he should have defenetly warn Ben about it.

Always wanted to see those lil guys again... Kinda weird they aren't mentioned more often, also Big Chill can down molten metal is like the coolest thing. This is a episode where I'm just rooting for Kevin, because he's trying man lol
Personally, I think Bigchill's mouth (or more specifically his teeth) function like vents. He can speak and blow his icy breath without opening it, but in order to feed they can open, that way he can take solid objects in. And since we rarely see bigchill eating, we don't really see his mouth open too often and thusly it's not really brought up again.
I miss Julie. The relationship between her and Ben went through many bumps, but by the end of UA I thought they'd ironed out most of the issues. Hell, I'd have been only with their breakup if it was treated more seriously instead of as a joke. Like say, an episode where Ben and Julie are trying yo have a date after so long, but issues from both their lives keep getting in the way until they realize that this isn't working anymore. They've grown as people and are starting to move apart. It would be sad, but would be a decent way to open up the Ben and Kai thing while not crapping over a ship people adored.
Julie is real life girl who loves the guy Benjamin curby tennyson,not the hero ben 10.Kai is the opposite. I wish they sticked with Julie, i always liked her for her genuine cconcern towards ben. She would never move away from his life for a silly matter like that. If someday we get a live action movie, Julie will be the heroine i am sure due to public demand

Exactly, exactly my problem was never they broke up, my problem was their broke up wasn't treated with respect, after not 2 seasons, but *2 SERIES* with then as a couple with their ups and downs. They deserve a better broke up, then what Omniverse did
I like the idea that Big Chill's mouth opens to eat, but doesn't need to for speaking. It's a very, well, alien way for a mouth to work that I totally vibe with.
I always thought Big Chill taking over was something comparable to sleepwalking. You don't turn into someone/something else, rather you're acting without being fully conscious. In this case, it wouldn't necessarily be Big Chill becoming an individual personality, it would be Ben in a state between conscious and unconscious acting on Necrofriggian instinct while still retaining Ben's knowledge and practices.
The pregnancy cravings really do make you question what's happening with Ben's DNA in times like these. Is it just that since his necrofrigian form is expecting, his human body is producing comparative hormones? Do his alien form exist in some form of stasis within the watch's database, still 'living' and aging alongside his human one? It comes up again with the ultimate aliens wanting out but still...
I certainly believe they actually age with ben. Some of his aliens designs looked younger when he was 10, when he turned 15/16 their designed changed and had more stuff to them and more details and some look older. Like fourarms for example or feedback.

I like to think that parts of the transformations are "stored" in Ben's junk DNA thanks to episodes like this. It's a record of available transformations. It also lets me link the difficulty of removing the watch the first time with why he had completely new transformations (he had the additional stuff removed so the Omnitrix didn't know what Ben had and ran the playlist generator one more time).
I definitely feel like Big Chill's babies should've came back at least a handful of times throughout the series. I feel like they would've been nice episodes to show off how Ben would handle being a parent and explore the life cycle of one of ben's aliens. But I also feel like they should only appear once in a while as to many appearances would've likely diluted the entertainment.
Imagine this: all of them come to Earth on Ben’s birthday, to his complete SHOCK while Gwen tells him she asked them to come to Earth for Ben and his kids to actually have some parent-children experiences. This could unfold into Ben teaching the kids how to aid the ones in need with their Necrofriggian abilities and them actually having a good time. Idk, you rate this
For me the when it comes to how Big Chill Ben acts in this episode, it seems like Ben’s consciousness is almost like half asleep, like when you just kinda go on auto pilot to a goal without extra thought, only being as awake as the current problem/goal demands. If that makes sense.
I always imagined the Omnitrix uses the users personality as a base and stacks the alien instincts on top of that. This would, in theory, allow his aliens to think and act like he would even if he wasn't exactly in control while still being able to know how the alien works even if it was new but if the alien were somehow alive or gained conscience from within it could leak out. This could be because the Omnitrix wasn't designed to keep living beings inside it but rather samples of DNA in the form of code that could be completed by connecting it, if only temporarily, to a host's DNA so aliens who can be considered alive even through simple DNA reconstruction would know what's going on cause they still have their original conscience encoded in their DNA. Could go further and explain how Ben 10,000 or whatever version of Ben could gain the alien powers without transforming was because of how long it stayed connected to him. This allowed it to bond more with the DNA of it's host, plus him training, and was able to latch on better without needing to rely on wasting energy on transformations. By saving energy on transforming it would allow Ben to use any alien power whenever he wanted without having to work around the limitations of the body or worry about losing the powers in the middle of a fight or other scenario it's needed in. Basically it gives Ben the ability to use any alien without hendering the user to physical limitations so Ben could use Grey Matters IQ without anybody knowing he's "transformed" and allow him to still be capable in a fight physically. Maybe with enough time he could learn to channel 2 or more aliens at once to maximize power combo potential.

Personally I wished there was a Tennyson family reunion episode where every Tennyson that could make was there and suddenly grandma Verona comes in with the little ones. The confusion that would take place is something I want to see.
Soo a bit embarrassing, but I was terrorized when that episode first came out. Because Big Chill had already grown to be my favourite new alien and I was afraid they'd have Ben lose him like he had lost Ghostfreak - which upsetted me. And for this reason, I ended up really appreciating the twist. These baby big chills are just sooo adorable^^ And yeah, I didn't realize it at the time but this is one episode where Julie really shines and is likable, what with her supporting Ben and being quite resourceful.
The thing about Ben still yelling out Big Chill, I believe at some point during the series, its more or less implied the aspect of being a hero is so ingrained into Ben that yelling out their name actually became a genetic thing within the Omnitrix.
Ben calling out the names was only a thing because the UAF writers thought kids wouldn’t be able to remember them otherwise, which is a bit condescending when you think about it.
Big chill must have 2 mouths. The visible one and one inside it. He can talk using the behind mouth and freeze breath goes through his teeth whereas for eating he needs to open both mouths
Ben when he turns into Big Chill from the maternal urges probably just becomes unconscious, uttering his alien names most likely comes from a subconscious mechanism which would also explain why he still did "normal" actions despite blacking out. It may even be that Big Chill has a personality but not something to the extent with Ghostfreak who has a cellular memory.
I mean, it wouldn’t be out of the blue or anything for Big Chill to have a personality that impacts how Ben acts. Rath is a good example. And Brainstorm is another, since as Gray Matter Ben doesn’t actually act all too different from his normal self. He uses the same vocabulary and speech pattern when he’s talking to other people in a normal conversation. But Brainstorm likes to use eloquent and long words to at the very least sound smarter. Then as Spider-Monkey, Ben likes to make monkey noises when excited or smth like that. Albedo does this as well when he turns into Spider-Monkey, and since they share the same DNA database, it would make sense for them to do so if it comes from Spider-Monkey. And then there’s Atomix in Omniverse as well, where Ben acts more like a stereotypical comic superhero and even does the Kamehameha in his own way. There are many examples of Ben’s personality and mannerisms changing at least slightly with each alien, so it would make sense for Big Chill to have the same effect.
The premise for this episode is so weird but it ended up being one the most wholesome episodes in all of the series Man, I miss Alien Force narrative style so much
Just now realising that Julie calls the burger place Burger Shack. Maybe the animators/storyboard team for this episode didn’t know that was a name and thought it was a description of a location when given the script
If you freeze something solid in such a short amount of time, there'd inevitably be a very high contrast between the warmer and colder sides during the process. This could produce cracks and flaws in the material. Additionally, the sudden extra rigidity may cause certain flaws and cracks to be unable to close as the material becomes too stiff to deform (like frozen rubber vs warm rubber.)
In addition to thermal shock, there's also embrittlement of a lot of things when they get sufficiently cold. If Big Chill reduced that to liquid nitrogen temperatures, the material could be that brittle, depending what it is.
@@segevstormlord3713embrittlement is the term for steel developing stress fractures in a cold working environment which somewhat applies bc we are talking about steel. But thermal shock is an abrupt and drastic change in temperature, from cold to hot or vice versa
I think it would've been awesome if like a necrofriggian sorcerer was introduced, and he was cool and enigmatic and then its revealed he's one of Ben's/Big Chill's kids who inherited the spark from him.
This actually solidified Big Chill as one of my favorites as a kid. I dunno, the idea of the DNA of one of Ben's aliens overwritting his personality for a short time is just really cool And the fact that Big Chill was one of the few this happened with was cool as hell A shame they didn't expore the idea more
Big Chill "possessing" ben i think was just a way for the writer to represent ben's parenting instincts being hightened because he is feeling (big chill literally) pregnant. The way he helped kevin is like a dad helping his son with girls, at least thats how i understood it as a kid. The motherly part is obvious witb the big chill stuff
I wish they had done this more often, where one of Ben's aliens developed its own personality and overwhelmed Ben. The closest they ever got was Ben being angry as Rath or having trouble controlling Jury Rigg at first (not counting the subtle personality quirks some aliens have in OV). Like, Ghostfreak being a sentient clone of Zs'Skayr and Big Chill carrying out his reproduction cycle are good excuses for an alien to take over, I'm sure they could have come up with others, either to see more of what has aliens would normally be like, or maybe even finding out about the genetic donor of that form. Edit: I forgot about Eon but he got retconned so whatever. And yeah I agree it shouldn't have just kept happening, but I feel like it's an interesting enough concept that it could have been explored maybe one more time, but with a different sort of avenue explored. Or maybe something closer to what happened to the Ultimate forms, where a duplicate of the alien with its own mind and memories ends up being created, which could potentially go several ways story-wise.
Eh, I feel like if they did it again, it would just come off as repetitive. Maybe like one more time in Omniverse it could have worked, but any more than that would have been annoying, especially if it happened again in UAF.
I feel like it really shouldn't have been done more than it already has been. MAYBE once more but that's the max. If loses its impact if Ben is constantly being possessed by his aliens and it would make it look as though the damn watch doesn't work. I think they personally done more personality quirks for the Aliens. Ben isn't a totally different person at his core but the paint job has changed and he's experiencing the world through a different lense. That would make a lot of sense for the purpose of the Omnitrix. But we got what we got.
I'd watch a series where each transformation is sort of 'inside' Ben's mindspace as a different part of his personality because its a unique combination of Ben and an alien's body and instincts
I'd taken it as Ben just being overcome by an all encompassing insect like instinct, rather than a separate personality, and I kind of like the idea that the omnitrix doesn't always handle intangibility well. It helps explains the Ghostfreak stuff, and where the Little Chills were when Ben was human
Possibly the best part of the episode is how it is a subversion of a horror episode. With the whole callback to Ghostfreak situation from preious series and then ends in such a bizarre fashion it is just amazing and memorable
It's such a shame that him and Julie broke up. Especially through a flashback and it was a simple misunderstanding because he was losing in a video game
He is cool He is my first alien when I first watched Alien Force. His design his phantom appearance Every thing is cool. Until we got omniverse where he got bulky.
as someone who hasnt read y'alls comic but has watched your Necrofridgian Video (albeit not since it dropped) I always liked the thought of the tiny baby being like a mama's boy to ben while the others either dislike him or are outright indifferent to him for no real good reason. It'd also would've been neat to see Ben's later girlfriends or Kenny react to his kids
Teen Dad can still be applicable because Male Seahorses give birth and they’re still dads, granted it’s not asexual but still. More topical I think is the recent mutation/evolution of the Marbled Crayfish. Their used to be a male and female relationship but 25 years ago a mutant female crayfish was born. It reproduced asexually and were perfect clones. It killed every male Crayfish it found. It was being studied when it escaped into the open waters of Europe 5 years ago. Due to how it reproduces it was not only an invasive species but an ecological apocalypse on its water ways. Theirs so many of this thing even now that a scientist described getting rid of it as “like trying to empty an ocean with a thimble” I can only imagine what a bunch of asexually reproducing, sentient, metal eating space moths would do to a galaxy. They have to be one of the most populous races.

I'm still sad that there was never an episode that brought back the baby Necrofriggians. I swear, every Ben 10 story I've written or am currently writing has brought back the last one as Ben's daughter who returns to her father and is named Lumi. Also, completely unrelated, but I remember blushing when I saw Gwen in that dress as a kid.
@@dork7546 I actually give an explanation for that in the stories. Due to a mix of human and Necrofriggian DNA courtesy of the Omnitrix, Lumi ages and has a gender like a human, while still looking like Big Chill in her natural form.

I think the whole thing about Necrofriggians is their mouths function both as a vent and traditionally like a mouth and the think the reasoning behind that is because of the level of heat they use for differing ice breaths. For instance when Freezing people and certain objects to avoid shattering them a Necrofriggian will instinctually use a lighter temperature of ice from maybe -10 Fahrenheit to 15 Fahrenheit. But might open his mouth to release a stronger freezing ice breath like when freezing metal structures. as for a solid structure like metal the colder it gets the more like glass it will become. So when Big chill freezes the Burger boy covers it shattered the way it should when the metal is completely frozen (possible to a molecular level) which is why it collapsed in on itself as it could no longer potentially sustain the weight of the metal. So I think the Necrofriggian mouth uses a vent to adjust temperature as when Big chill ingests molten metal as they might natrually produce a freezing breath that can be around absolute zero or even more since Necrofriggians are immune to extreme temps. As for the DNA doing what it does. If we visit the one scene from Ultimate alien where Albedo hadn't taken DNA samples for the ultimates are were actual living creatures trapped in the device much like Zs'Skayr was from DNA. We can think along those same lines as the DNA being in a similar way where Ben's body is essentially a vessel that can freely change between the forms with out real consequences of it. What I mean by that is the DNA when dialed in doesn't exactly need to have Ben conscious and use his mental thinking abilities as we know the Omnitrix uploads the abilities to the user meaning it must in some way make the DNA conscious even in a more primative way of thinking, but can tap into some of the mental abilities of the user like when Big chill tells the pedestrian to scram and only freezes the guards in a way that renders them "docile" instead of being completely primitive like at the start with Big chill lashing out. But thats just my theory on all of that.
Pickles have alot of salt and vinegar in them, so it is possible that the craving might be related to much iron in his human diet, witch can be dangerous.
I actually think it's all Ben (and the instincts, of course). It's like if Ben felt hungry as an alien. It's most likely Ben would feel like eating whatever things his transformation would have evolved to digest and not human food. The blackouts are a bit weird but it could just be a part of being a Necrofriggian. Idk, there could probably be better explanations for it. Or ya know, it could just be a Ben thing. His human body is being affected by alien instincts after all. It might be something he doesn't adapt to until the end of the episode where he doesn't pass out. EDIT: I just realised it could be something like him being drunk or drugged. Altered personality but still the same person underneath. Lines up with the blackouts.
I kinda like the idea that Big Chill’s mouth can either open or vent, at their choice. Like, if they wanted to they could open it to get more solid things, but keep it as a vent for liquids and gases. Or they could use an open mouth as a kind of warning like a rattle snake’s rattle.
Kevin in this episode reaffirms my opinion, the best dynamic with a reformed bad guy is when you contrast the evil self being fearsome with the heroic self being a huge dork :D
This episode has always been one of my favorites, and it really helps develop the relationships between the main four, albeit not as much between Ben and Gwen as the others. I never really picked up on Ben's knowledge and morality still being present in Mama Big Chill, but that is a really interesting element of this episode. In addition to what you mentioned, MBC is able to speak, and doesn't harm Ben's friends or other people, only trying to drive them away. Finally, in regards to Mama Big Chill's gender and pronouns, that really depends on how much of Ben's mind and identity are present. I'd personally default to they/them for any regular Necrofrigians, as a species that reproduces asexually and is usually asocial probably wouldn't develop the construct of gender, or if they did, it'd probably be very different to ours. However, Ben's mind being partially still present complicates things, and for MBC I'd personally use he/him.
Same here I call him a "him" since it's still Ben in there just the Necro instincts\breeding period are kicking, in which he has no control over like a feeding response or going in heat etc. The species on the other hand it's probably asexual can't tell difference the males and females apart.
@@silverbolt9439 Mhm. I personally don't think they even have distinct sexes, as there hasn't been any sexual dimorphism in the Necrofrigians we've seen, and a species that reproduces asexually wouldn't need distinct sexes.
This really is one of those great, well remembered, but almost entirely unimportant episodes. It was actually surprising that they even remembered it enough to reference it once later on in the show.
The most horrifying thing about this is that if big chill's mouth can open and isn't just a vent that means that most of the time he blows freezing air through his teeth. For anyone that's ever accidentally bitten ice or had a cavity get ice cream in it you'll know why this is horrifying.
Big chill is one of my favorite aliens and the baby aliens are so adorable it would interesting to see more baby versions of his aliens. Kevin’s soft side is slaps great to see it really builds Ben & Kevin’s brotherly bond. I like it also when Julie interacts with the alien forms
Big Chill is my personal favorite alien, followed by Brainstorm and Rath. As for Big Chills children, you did a great job in "And Beyond" episode on them, brought the realistic and interesting character dynamic to the lore. Though tho, I didn't expect an episode review this early, I'm worried about you Kuro, it looks like you've been through a burnout which takes joy out of you, take it easy Kuro, rest and recover
Because of these custom transformations I always wondered if transforming hurt. You see his body change so drastically like removing limbs or spreading bones in such a short period of time it's hard to believe it's all painless.
Personally I think a perfect scene to have them return is later in UA, where we meet more Necrofriggians, and when Ben transforms to Big Chill, and then suddenly the babies who happened to be there, swarm him, and because he is in Big Chill's transformation, it clicks, and he remembers them. It doesn't need to be much, but a small scene than reminds us that Big Chill is their own little character, and also a part of Ben, at the same time.
I remember in this episode Kevin says "Ghostfreak..never liked that guy" and I always took that as the reason why ghost freak was never really present in his amalgam form or why he never really used his powers (also because ectonurite consciousness can exist in a single DNA strand maybe Kevin can't absorb ghost freak without absorbing his consciousness too. (I know his amalgam form has some black lines that may likely be from ghost freak but they are very minimal and I never noticed them when I was younger).

So if Ben’s Aliens have his DNA, does that make every Baby Chill at the very least 1/8th Anodite? Imagine an Anodite but instead of the hair they have Necrofriggian butterfly wings
This has always been not only one of my favorite episodes in AF but in the entire Ben 10 continuity! I love Ben's necrofriggian kids, despite how little we got to see of them, and wish they could've appeared more. They were such a cool idea that just sort of got not only sidelined but never mentioned again. I would've at least liked a couple of throwaway lines like that one Vreedle episodes where he brings up stuff like wondering how they're doing.
I have two theories on Ben's blackouts as Big Chill: 1- Ben's human consciousness is incapable of comprehending the strong reproductive instincts of a Necro Friggian due to just how "alien" they are. Maybe similar to Ghost Freak like Kuro had said but not in a necessarily negative way. Maybe ghost aliens *are* just different in that way. 2- Necro Friggians are just like that when they reproduce. Maybe Big Chill's species literally black out while having off spring and it's something none of them actually experience until the process is done. Yes, to them as humans its a weird way to reproduce but it's not some sinister thing, it's just an even deeper insight into how these aliens experience life itself! (I feel this one is more right)
Ben x Julie is only good in the first two seasons of AF, after that it starts to go down hill and by the last half of UA it’s pretty dysfunctional bordering on toxic. In all honesty they should’ve broken up for good in “Eye of the Beholder”.
@@Andrew-Bastin a lot of real life relationships have gotten some toxic moments, but only a few managed to strengthen and fixed their relationship. I would say that ben x julie is somewhat realistic.

Funny enough, I think this episode proves Azmuth’s Orginial Point in Secret of The Omnitrix. It’s a device meant to understand the beings of the universe. It’s not a tool, it’s not a weapon, it’s simply understanding the lives of other beings. This has always and will always be my all time favorite episode of Ben 10 in any continuity. The way they fake the audience out with the Big Chill potentially going rouge angle is not only a great call back to Ghostfreak but is also a fantastic call back to the original series. Big Chill is my favorite of Ben's new line up this season and getting an entire episode centered around them was great to see and I will never not tear up when I see the Baby Chills. The cutest design ever given to an alien just ahead of the Baby Celestialsapien in the forge of creation. Solid 25/25 in my personal rating.

@@aduts1177 I’m very aware of that, that’s that problem, their relationship was rushed. Due to his background Gwen should’ve been initially distrusting of Kevin then once he had proven he had changed for the better they could’ve grown as friends with that friendship developing into romance. As it is they just have a crush on each other with absolutely no build up, which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that Kevin tried to kill her in the past.

I like to think that Big Chill's vent is only required/active when he's doing some sort of temperature manipulation, and the mouth can open regularly when necessary (like when eating). That way both versions of the mouth have a purpose.
I feel like Gwen really dreams of marrying Kevin. No better reason why she picked out a dress that looks so much like it was meant to be a wedding dress out of all dresses to choose from. Or she could just be teasing him because she's been catching hints that he likes her too.
I loved this episode as a kid because it made me think that big chill was going to turn into another Ghostfreak. Kinda glad he didn't, but I wish we'd seen more of Ben's kids after this episode 😢

Something that I just remembered from the scene with Julie chasing Big Chill and failing to freeze her mopad: I always tought he intended to freeze her like he did with the guards, but couldn't, since he is holding that much lava in his stomach so his ice breath isn't cold enough. I like Big Chill's mouth being able to morph between like a vent and like a jaw. There's nothing like that on earth. I liked it better when Ben's heros actually looked otherworldly in their physiology. I felt like that was missing from the reboot
I do feel like it was wasted potential for Big Chill's kids even just one of them not make a return like I always imagine the one that he tell to fly was the runt out of them and it comes back later either to help in the HighBreed invasion or an idea I had was for it to return in Omniverse as a partner to Spanner (Kenny ) helping his "brother" protect their dad in the past.

Yeah, that's something I don't want to see either, you can just tell by watching him that he doesn't have that same energy as in the past breakdowns. Personally I interpreted Ben’s “momma mode” as still being him in control, but he becomes overwhelmed by the urges that come with being a pregnant Necrofriggian. Like he is actually still conscious, but things are like a blur to him, which explains why he can still be in-character even if he isn’t acting normally.
I think it's similar to when some people walk during sleep. Their personality is still intact but they are focused on specific task. And they also don't remember what they were doing.
So it's Ben but with lotta hormones in his body that is on the edge of Ben/Alien Mom

I was always disappointed that Ben's kids never made another appearance. You could do so much with the concept. Imagine one shows up moves in, does nothing but eat food and watch TV and Ben has to figure out how to get rid of him, or one tries to be a hero like him but causes a bunch of problems because he doesn't understand human culture.
I half expected the freed Ultimate Big Chill would take in as parent for those kids. In fact, in 80 years, that one might give birth to a new breed of Ultimate Necrofriggians.

Personally, I think Bigchill's mouth (or more specifically his teeth) function like vents. He can speak and blow his icy breath without opening it, but in order to feed they can open, that way he can take solid objects in. And since we rarely see bigchill eating, we don't really see his mouth open too often and thusly it's not really brought up again.
I remember thinking big chill was a filter feeder because of their mouth, so it’s weird when it looks like teeth.
I always thought as a kid that the black lines were skin that could stretch and the blue was just the inside of his mouth covered in ice.

I miss Julie. The relationship between her and Ben went through many bumps, but by the end of UA I thought they'd ironed out most of the issues. Hell, I'd have been only with their breakup if it was treated more seriously instead of as a joke.
Like say, an episode where Ben and Julie are trying yo have a date after so long, but issues from both their lives keep getting in the way until they realize that this isn't working anymore. They've grown as people and are starting to move apart. It would be sad, but would be a decent way to open up the Ben and Kai thing while not crapping over a ship people adored.

I always thought Big Chill taking over was something comparable to sleepwalking. You don't turn into someone/something else, rather you're acting without being fully conscious. In this case, it wouldn't necessarily be Big Chill becoming an individual personality, it would be Ben in a state between conscious and unconscious acting on Necrofriggian instinct while still retaining Ben's knowledge and practices.
The pregnancy cravings really do make you question what's happening with Ben's DNA in times like these. Is it just that since his necrofrigian form is expecting, his human body is producing comparative hormones? Do his alien form exist in some form of stasis within the watch's database, still 'living' and aging alongside his human one? It comes up again with the ultimate aliens wanting out but still...
I certainly believe they actually age with ben. Some of his aliens designs looked younger when he was 10, when he turned 15/16 their designed changed and had more stuff to them and more details and some look older. Like fourarms for example or feedback.

I like to think that parts of the transformations are "stored" in Ben's junk DNA thanks to episodes like this. It's a record of available transformations. It also lets me link the difficulty of removing the watch the first time with why he had completely new transformations (he had the additional stuff removed so the Omnitrix didn't know what Ben had and ran the playlist generator one more time).
If the little chills ever showed up or were mentioned again in canon-- even just once or twice-- the importance would have SKYROCKETED.
They have been mentioned before in both ma vreedle's debut and in the video game Ben 10 Omniverse 2.

I definitely feel like Big Chill's babies should've came back at least a handful of times throughout the series. I feel like they would've been nice episodes to show off how Ben would handle being a parent and explore the life cycle of one of ben's aliens. But I also feel like they should only appear once in a while as to many appearances would've likely diluted the entertainment.
Imagine this: all of them come to Earth on Ben’s birthday, to his complete SHOCK while Gwen tells him she asked them to come to Earth for Ben and his kids to actually have some parent-children experiences. This could unfold into Ben teaching the kids how to aid the ones in need with their Necrofriggian abilities and them actually having a good time.

For me the when it comes to how Big Chill Ben acts in this episode, it seems like Ben’s consciousness is almost like half asleep, like when you just kinda go on auto pilot to a goal without extra thought, only being as awake as the current problem/goal demands. If that makes sense.
I always imagined the Omnitrix uses the users personality as a base and stacks the alien instincts on top of that. This would, in theory, allow his aliens to think and act like he would even if he wasn't exactly in control while still being able to know how the alien works even if it was new but if the alien were somehow alive or gained conscience from within it could leak out. This could be because the Omnitrix wasn't designed to keep living beings inside it but rather samples of DNA in the form of code that could be completed by connecting it, if only temporarily, to a host's DNA so aliens who can be considered alive even through simple DNA reconstruction would know what's going on cause they still have their original conscience encoded in their DNA.
Could go further and explain how Ben 10,000 or whatever version of Ben could gain the alien powers without transforming was because of how long it stayed connected to him. This allowed it to bond more with the DNA of it's host, plus him training, and was able to latch on better without needing to rely on wasting energy on transformations. By saving energy on transforming it would allow Ben to use any alien power whenever he wanted without having to work around the limitations of the body or worry about losing the powers in the middle of a fight or other scenario it's needed in. Basically it gives Ben the ability to use any alien without hendering the user to physical limitations so Ben could use Grey Matters IQ without anybody knowing he's "transformed" and allow him to still be capable in a fight physically. Maybe with enough time he could learn to channel 2 or more aliens at once to maximize power combo potential.

Personally I wished there was a Tennyson family reunion episode where every Tennyson that could make was there and suddenly grandma Verona comes in with the little ones. The confusion that would take place is something I want to see.
Soo a bit embarrassing, but I was terrorized when that episode first came out. Because Big Chill had already grown to be my favourite new alien and I was afraid they'd have Ben lose him like he had lost Ghostfreak - which upsetted me. And for this reason, I ended up really appreciating the twist. These baby big chills are just sooo adorable^^
And yeah, I didn't realize it at the time but this is one episode where Julie really shines and is likable, what with her supporting Ben and being quite resourceful.

He can talk using the behind mouth and freeze breath goes through his teeth whereas for eating he needs to open both mouths
Ben when he turns into Big Chill from the maternal urges probably just becomes unconscious, uttering his alien names most likely comes from a subconscious mechanism which would also explain why he still did "normal" actions despite blacking out. It may even be that Big Chill has a personality but not something to the extent with Ghostfreak who has a cellular memory.
I mean, it wouldn’t be out of the blue or anything for Big Chill to have a personality that impacts how Ben acts. Rath is a good example. And Brainstorm is another, since as Gray Matter Ben doesn’t actually act all too different from his normal self. He uses the same vocabulary and speech pattern when he’s talking to other people in a normal conversation. But Brainstorm likes to use eloquent and long words to at the very least sound smarter. Then as Spider-Monkey, Ben likes to make monkey noises when excited or smth like that. Albedo does this as well when he turns into Spider-Monkey, and since they share the same DNA database, it would make sense for them to do so if it comes from Spider-Monkey. And then there’s Atomix in Omniverse as well, where Ben acts more like a stereotypical comic superhero and even does the Kamehameha in his own way. There are many examples of Ben’s personality and mannerisms changing at least slightly with each alien, so it would make sense for Big Chill to have the same effect.
The premise for this episode is so weird but it ended up being one the most wholesome episodes in all of the series

If you freeze something solid in such a short amount of time, there'd inevitably be a very high contrast between the warmer and colder sides during the process. This could produce cracks and flaws in the material. Additionally, the sudden extra rigidity may cause certain flaws and cracks to be unable to close as the material becomes too stiff to deform (like frozen rubber vs warm rubber.)

In addition to thermal shock, there's also embrittlement of a lot of things when they get sufficiently cold. If Big Chill reduced that to liquid nitrogen temperatures, the material could be that brittle, depending what it is.

Big Chill "possessing" ben i think was just a way for the writer to represent ben's parenting instincts being hightened because he is feeling (big chill literally) pregnant.
The way he helped kevin is like a dad helping his son with girls, at least thats how i understood it as a kid. The motherly part is obvious witb the big chill stuff
I wish they had done this more often, where one of Ben's aliens developed its own personality and overwhelmed Ben. The closest they ever got was Ben being angry as Rath or having trouble controlling Jury Rigg at first (not counting the subtle personality quirks some aliens have in OV). Like, Ghostfreak being a sentient clone of Zs'Skayr and Big Chill carrying out his reproduction cycle are good excuses for an alien to take over, I'm sure they could have come up with others, either to see more of what has aliens would normally be like, or maybe even finding out about the genetic donor of that form.
Edit: I forgot about Eon but he got retconned so whatever. And yeah I agree it shouldn't have just kept happening, but I feel like it's an interesting enough concept that it could have been explored maybe one more time, but with a different sort of avenue explored. Or maybe something closer to what happened to the Ultimate forms, where a duplicate of the alien with its own mind and memories ends up being created, which could potentially go several ways story-wise.
Eh, I feel like if they did it again, it would just come off as repetitive. Maybe like one more time in Omniverse it could have worked, but any more than that would have been annoying, especially if it happened again in UAF.
I feel like it really shouldn't have been done more than it already has been. MAYBE once more but that's the max. If loses its impact if Ben is constantly being possessed by his aliens and it would make it look as though the damn watch doesn't work. I think they personally done more personality quirks for the Aliens. Ben isn't a totally different person at his core but the paint job has changed and he's experiencing the world through a different lense. That would make a lot of sense for the purpose of the Omnitrix. But we got what we got.
I like the fact it highlights somethings are just very strongly genetic and can’t easily be helped.
I'd watch a series where each transformation is sort of 'inside' Ben's mindspace as a different part of his personality because its a unique combination of Ben and an alien's body and instincts

I'd taken it as Ben just being overcome by an all encompassing insect like instinct, rather than a separate personality, and I kind of like the idea that the omnitrix doesn't always handle intangibility well. It helps explains the Ghostfreak stuff, and where the Little Chills were when Ben was human

as someone who hasnt read y'alls comic but has watched your Necrofridgian Video (albeit not since it dropped) I always liked the thought of the tiny baby being like a mama's boy to ben while the others either dislike him or are outright indifferent to him for no real good reason. It'd also would've been neat to see Ben's later girlfriends or Kenny react to his kids

Teen Dad can still be applicable because Male Seahorses give birth and they’re still dads, granted it’s not asexual but still. More topical I think is the recent mutation/evolution of the Marbled Crayfish. Their used to be a male and female relationship but 25 years ago a mutant female crayfish was born. It reproduced asexually and were perfect clones. It killed every male Crayfish it found. It was being studied when it escaped into the open waters of Europe 5 years ago. Due to how it reproduces it was not only an invasive species but an ecological apocalypse on its water ways. Theirs so many of this thing even now that a scientist described getting rid of it as “like trying to empty an ocean with a thimble” I can only imagine what a bunch of asexually reproducing, sentient, metal eating space moths would do to a galaxy. They have to be one of the most populous races.

I think the whole thing about Necrofriggians is their mouths function both as a vent and traditionally like a mouth and the think the reasoning behind that is because of the level of heat they use for differing ice breaths. For instance when Freezing people and certain objects to avoid shattering them a Necrofriggian will instinctually use a lighter temperature of ice from maybe -10 Fahrenheit to 15 Fahrenheit. But might open his mouth to release a stronger freezing ice breath like when freezing metal structures. as for a solid structure like metal the colder it gets the more like glass it will become. So when Big chill freezes the Burger boy covers it shattered the way it should when the metal is completely frozen (possible to a molecular level) which is why it collapsed in on itself as it could no longer potentially sustain the weight of the metal. So I think the Necrofriggian mouth uses a vent to adjust temperature as when Big chill ingests molten metal as they might natrually produce a freezing breath that can be around absolute zero or even more since Necrofriggians are immune to extreme temps.
As for the DNA doing what it does. If we visit the one scene from Ultimate alien where Albedo hadn't taken DNA samples for the ultimates are were actual living creatures trapped in the device much like Zs'Skayr was from DNA. We can think along those same lines as the DNA being in a similar way where Ben's body is essentially a vessel that can freely change between the forms with out real consequences of it. What I mean by that is the DNA when dialed in doesn't exactly need to have Ben conscious and use his mental thinking abilities as we know the Omnitrix uploads the abilities to the user meaning it must in some way make the DNA conscious even in a more primative way of thinking, but can tap into some of the mental abilities of the user like when Big chill tells the pedestrian to scram and only freezes the guards in a way that renders them "docile" instead of being completely primitive like at the start with Big chill lashing out. But thats just my theory on all of that.

I actually think it's all Ben (and the instincts, of course). It's like if Ben felt hungry as an alien. It's most likely Ben would feel like eating whatever things his transformation would have evolved to digest and not human food.
The blackouts are a bit weird but it could just be a part of being a Necrofriggian. Idk, there could probably be better explanations for it. Or ya know, it could just be a Ben thing. His human body is being affected by alien instincts after all. It might be something he doesn't adapt to until the end of the episode where he doesn't pass out.
EDIT: I just realised it could be something like him being drunk or drugged. Altered personality but still the same person underneath. Lines up with the blackouts.
I kinda like the idea that Big Chill’s mouth can either open or vent, at their choice. Like, if they wanted to they could open it to get more solid things, but keep it as a vent for liquids and gases. Or they could use an open mouth as a kind of warning like a rattle snake’s rattle.
Kevin in this episode reaffirms my opinion, the best dynamic with a reformed bad guy is when you contrast the evil self being fearsome with the heroic self being a huge dork :D

This episode has always been one of my favorites, and it really helps develop the relationships between the main four, albeit not as much between Ben and Gwen as the others.
I never really picked up on Ben's knowledge and morality still being present in Mama Big Chill, but that is a really interesting element of this episode. In addition to what you mentioned, MBC is able to speak, and doesn't harm Ben's friends or other people, only trying to drive them away.
Finally, in regards to Mama Big Chill's gender and pronouns, that really depends on how much of Ben's mind and identity are present. I'd personally default to they/them for any regular Necrofrigians, as a species that reproduces asexually and is usually asocial probably wouldn't develop the construct of gender, or if they did, it'd probably be very different to ours. However, Ben's mind being partially still present complicates things, and for MBC I'd personally use he/him.
Same here I call him a "him" since it's still Ben in there just the Necro instincts\breeding period are kicking, in which he has no control over like a feeding response or going in heat etc.
The species on the other hand it's probably asexual can't tell difference the males and females apart.
@@silverbolt9439 Mhm. I personally don't think they even have distinct sexes, as there hasn't been any sexual dimorphism in the Necrofrigians we've seen, and a species that reproduces asexually wouldn't need distinct sexes.
This really is one of those great, well remembered, but almost entirely unimportant episodes. It was actually surprising that they even remembered it enough to reference it once later on in the show.
The most horrifying thing about this is that if big chill's mouth can open and isn't just a vent that means that most of the time he blows freezing air through his teeth. For anyone that's ever accidentally bitten ice or had a cavity get ice cream in it you'll know why this is horrifying.

Big chill is one of my favorite aliens and the baby aliens are so adorable it would interesting to see more baby versions of his aliens. Kevin’s soft side is slaps great to see it really builds Ben & Kevin’s brotherly bond. I like it also when Julie interacts with the alien forms
Big Chill is my personal favorite alien, followed by Brainstorm and Rath. As for Big Chills children, you did a great job in "And Beyond" episode on them, brought the realistic and interesting character dynamic to the lore.
Though tho, I didn't expect an episode review this early, I'm worried about you Kuro, it looks like you've been through a burnout which takes joy out of you, take it easy Kuro, rest and recover
Because of these custom transformations I always wondered if transforming hurt. You see his body change so drastically like removing limbs or spreading bones in such a short period of time it's hard to believe it's all painless.
Its probably why he stopped growing for a while. But atleast he is tall when he became ben 10 000
Ben actually gets asked this Omniverse and describes it as feeling like a good stretch
Personally I think a perfect scene to have them return is later in UA, where we meet more Necrofriggians, and when Ben transforms to Big Chill, and then suddenly the babies who happened to be there, swarm him, and because he is in Big Chill's transformation, it clicks, and he remembers them. It doesn't need to be much, but a small scene than reminds us that Big Chill is their own little character, and also a part of Ben, at the same time.
I remember in this episode Kevin says "Ghostfreak..never liked that guy" and I always took that as the reason why ghost freak was never really present in his amalgam form or why he never really used his powers (also because ectonurite consciousness can exist in a single DNA strand maybe Kevin can't absorb ghost freak without absorbing his consciousness too. (I know his amalgam form has some black lines that may likely be from ghost freak but they are very minimal and I never noticed them when I was younger).

This has always been not only one of my favorite episodes in AF but in the entire Ben 10 continuity! I love Ben's necrofriggian kids, despite how little we got to see of them, and wish they could've appeared more. They were such a cool idea that just sort of got not only sidelined but never mentioned again. I would've at least liked a couple of throwaway lines like that one Vreedle episodes where he brings up stuff like wondering how they're doing.

I have two theories on Ben's blackouts as Big Chill:
1- Ben's human consciousness is incapable of comprehending the strong reproductive instincts of a Necro Friggian due to just how "alien" they are. Maybe similar to Ghost Freak like Kuro had said but not in a necessarily negative way. Maybe ghost aliens *are* just different in that way.
2- Necro Friggians are just like that when they reproduce. Maybe Big Chill's species literally black out while having off spring and it's something none of them actually experience until the process is done. Yes, to them as humans its a weird way to reproduce but it's not some sinister thing, it's just an even deeper insight into how these aliens experience life itself! (I feel this one is more right)

Ben x Julie is only good in the first two seasons of AF, after that it starts to go down hill and by the last half of UA it’s pretty dysfunctional bordering on toxic. In all honesty they should’ve broken up for good in “Eye of the Beholder”.

Funny enough, I think this episode proves Azmuth’s Orginial Point in Secret of The Omnitrix. It’s a device meant to understand the beings of the universe. It’s not a tool, it’s not a weapon, it’s simply understanding the lives of other beings. For example, the Omnitrix is DIRECTLY impacted by the desires and wants of the aliens inside the watch, such as GhostFreaks want for freedom, or Big Chills Need to reproduce.
This has always and will always be my all time favorite episode of Ben 10 in any continuity. The way they fake the audience out with the Big Chill potentially going rouge angle is not only a great call back to Ghostfreak but is also a fantastic call back to the original series. Big Chill is my favorite of Ben's new line up this season and getting an entire episode centered around them was great to see and I will never not tear up when I see the Baby Chills. The cutest design ever given to an alien just ahead of the Baby Celestialsapien in the forge of creation. Solid 25/25 in my personal rating.

Due to his background Gwen should’ve been initially distrusting of Kevin then once he had proven he had changed for the better they could’ve grown as friends with that friendship developing into romance. As it is they just have a crush on each other with absolutely no build up, which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that Kevin tried to kill her in the past.

I like to think that Big Chill's vent is only required/active when he's doing some sort of temperature manipulation, and the mouth can open regularly when necessary (like when eating). That way both versions of the mouth have a purpose.

I like Big Chill's mouth being able to morph between like a vent and like a jaw. There's nothing like that on earth. I liked it better when Ben's heros actually looked otherworldly in their physiology. I felt like that was missing from the reboot

I do feel like it was wasted potential for Big Chill's kids even just one of them not make a return like I always imagine the one that he tell to fly was the runt out of them and it comes back later either to help in the HighBreed invasion or an idea I had was for it to return in Omniverse as a partner to Spanner (Kenny ) helping his "brother" protect their dad in the past.

Wait doesn't the Omnitrix turn you into the age equivalent of that species and not the adult form, so for instance a human baby turning into whatever species Wildvine is he'll just be a seed or a plant-ling, so that means Big Chills species naturally gets pregnant and gives birth at their 15y/o equivalent, aka still a teenager for their species

6:45 I think this is just Kevin being paranoid. He states in Ultimate Alien he dropped out of school due to running away and getting trapped in the Null Void. This means at most Kevin only completed up to 5th grade. In addition, people get more stressed and parinoid when dealing with crushes
