  • In this Range Report I shoot and review a Hk P30 in 9mm with the variant 3 (decocker only) option. This is one of the pistols that Hk designed as a smaller version of the Hk45 and geared more towards law enforcement and civilian CCW. It is designed to be rugged, compact and reliable. Everything you would expect from an Hk. This video documents my thoughts and experiences. Yours may vary.

I have all 3 types, sk, standard and a L. All of mine are V3 with a safety. I have competed with the L and really like it. I CC the SK most of the time and the “standard” is for the house. I’m a HK fan boy. All of them are stock. Ive never had any malfunctions, the highest round count, the L, it has a bit over 12k through it.

I personally have Three working on my fourth P30L V3, 2=NO Manual Safety 1=with MS. Don’t care for a manual safety whatsoever. They shoot phenomenally well and more accurately than I will ever be. The take up on trigger could use a little TLC but the reset doesn’t bother me at all. I dropped an 11lb hammer spring in from HK Parts and man what a difference, 8lb DA and 3lb SA trigger pulls… I’ll take my P30L V3 over a Glock, Sig and most other guns.

That sounds great! Congratulations on getting the pistol so well tuned!

In my opinion, an external safety on a DA/SA pistol sucks, especially when the lever is located where your right thumb needs to be if you use a proper modern thumbs-forward grip. I hate that the decocker/safety lever on my USP 45 Custom Sport forces me to use an inferior grip. I went with the 9mm P30L V1 with the light LEM trigger for my first P-series. No silly safety and no oddly located decocker. I've been told there's also an LEM option for the USP, but I'm hesitant to mess with the match trigger that came in it because it's perfect now that I've broken it in. I don't complain about the reset because I understand why the trigger was designed the way it was, and it doesn't bother me. I have many other handguns that are intended to be used in gun games or as range toys.

I love it. It's a lot different then the V3. No decocker, no safety. A true ambidextrous gun. Even with 1 in the chamber, the hammer is up in the decocked position and tucked inside the slide. The trigger is almost weightless.
      You should try one.

Good video I appreciate your opinions on this gun like you said everyone is different and has different preferences I personally love the placement of the decocker on the back because the left side it interferes with my grip a bit and makes it much harder to hit the slide release when you're running the gun quickly. But I'm also the weird guy who likes the p2000 better 😁
Funny about the price you mentioned. I got my sk for a hundred MORE than the L.

Does Langdon do work on usp's? I have an LEM USP40 with the heavier trigger. I know they make springs to lighten the trigger but they're tough to find and I really love the pistol.

I ran mine in uspsa production. It's a fun gun, shoots very flat, not the fastest trigger in the world but it wasn't designed to be. Might be a hair slower than the race guns but it also ran flawlessly dropping magazines in the mud for 3 hours where the custom 2011's couldn't make it through a single mag without a malfunction that day.

Ever thought of reviewing the HKPARTS rail-mounted "compensator"?
Curious to see how much it helps (if at all) other than making it look similar to John's pistol from JW1.

    • @thetexasgunvault
      @thetexasgunvault  Год назад +1

I would try one if someone sent it for review but I honestly do not think it will work well with the flex on the frame and gas leakage around the barrel. But I would give it a try.

    Good video
me being subjective and a southpaw, I love the rear decocker. The one thing I don’t like on some HK’s are the safeties on a Da/Sa because now the manual of arms now dictates that you must always thumb down the safety lever.
( I understand that many of there contracts require a manual safety)

You make a good point. I always feel bad for left handed people. So many guns are really for right handed only.

Why do you want to trade for a V3? I just bought a P30L V1 - hopefully I make it to the range today - I also have the GrayGuns short trigger reset, (and I’m not replacing the trigger to a GG flat one - yet 😜). I personally am not a fan of DA/SA pistols that’s why I opted for the Light LEM set up with the V1.

No the P30SK is just as accurate as the P30 and P30L. Being smaller it may be harder for you to shoot but the pistol itself is more than accurate enough.
