I think the addition of the world building aspects (i.e. daycare in this episode) really is what makes this special and the writing should focus more on how the pokemon interact with / live in the environment, like in this episode

I looove how these Torchic feel like common birds with their fast head tilts and the somewhat "empty head" look haha. Also, I'm in love with the gooey look of that Ditto!!

One little criticism: saying that it's orange to attract attention doesn't make sense, at least if you consider real animals. Orange is a camouflage color, as to most animals, it just looks like another shade of green. I know Pokémon aren't real animals, so it may not be applicable, but I felt I should at least point it out.
Bright colors like orange are also colors that can advertise “I’m dangerous (in some way)! Don’t 🦆 with me!” A classic example are monarch butterflies, which are bright orange to advertise that they are toxic.

Came here to point the same thing, apparently tigers are camouflaged since most animals that they would normally interact with, specially their prey, can't see red, so they see them as green.
@@Darknimbus3 Butterflies' main predators (birds) tend to have better eyesight than most other animals.
I like this portrayal of Torchic as a human-dependant Pokemon, one that if left wild, would struggle in a natural environment. Not to say its later evolutions would be weak, but that natural selection would make very difficult to survive long enough to survive evolving to that stage

1:00 that fence is really useful in keeping the torchics inside the perimeter, as well as keeping out potential predators. It's very important that the space between the wires is big enough for small pokemon to make it through. 😅

Excellent choice of background bird calls! I caught the Carolina Wren at 0:30 and a few of the quiter ones are backyard staples of my area, though I can't name them off hand.
When i was little I was obsessed with torchic and it was my favorite Pokémon for years. It’s really nice to see this not only because of this fact but also due to it being so well made

Very clean. Only note would be to make all motions serve a purpose. Right now it seems their heads fidget randomly and with no motivation. they aren't look at anything in specific and because of that, it feels like they just jerkily move their heads to random positions without any rhyme or reason. Animals just don't do that. Also would've been cool to see at least one of them do a little chic-hop getting around.
Generally the surfaces and environments look great. The narration tells the story well and gives us a reason to be where we are. It's just the individual pokemon now. giving them life-like animations means replicating life-like motivations. Like, if a chick's head is jerking around all over, it's usually because it's looking at a bunch of stuff all around it.
Absolutely love these. I can't wait for the next one. Keep up the great work.
The fact that torchic and other starters are raised in the day care because their population in the wild is dwindling is aj excellent piece of world building that explains away why we can't find the starter pokemon in the wild. Excellent work.
I love the idea that professors work with the regions breeders in order to have a steady supply of starters.
Good video but I’d love to have seen Torchic strut around a bit and show off more of that personality that the games imply is there waiting to burn brighter and bolder as it goes into its evolutions.
About the colour orange in animals: most animals don't see the colour red, so they see orange as green. I learned this like a month ago watching a video about tigers.
I find it appalling that we were never taught something as important to understanding these animals back in school, I know I would mention it to people learning about them.
All this time I thought tigers were so badass that they didn't need camouflage, but I always found it odd that they were the only big cats to not have it

You know what would be a good idea for a mythical encounter? Zeraora. They're weird in that they're not really a legendary lore-wise even though they fit the technical requirements, but instead the lore just talks about how they're an apex predator and how they rely on electricity from other sources rather than generating it themselves. So you could kinda treat them like a cheetah, maybe have them chase down a Zebstrika in a savannah environment (since, while they're technically a gen 7 Pokemon, they were only available in a distribution in the games and their only anime appearances were a trained one in the Ultra Ruin and an abandoned one in Fula City in an unknown region that appears to be somewhere in what would be real world Hiroshima based on the surrounding geography, so we don't actually know where Zeraora's natural habitat actually is) and make a bit of a big deal on how rare it is to see a Zeraora hunting in the wild.

God I love the attention to detail in these, the references to pokedex entries! Also I love the ditto easter egg in the background lol, although it looks so weird in CG lmao. This is how the Detective Pikachu movie should've looked! They should've hired you lol, I swear that Jigglypuff is cursed. So is the Mr. Mine, dear god, that thing is nightmare fuel! Pikachu himself is adorable though, although the voice kinda throws you off but that's true of the games too lol. At first I didn't like it, I was like, "they massacred my boy" but it kinda grows on you.
