Wow, the comparison between the leader class and deluxe class Snarl is immense. Like you said, it's comparing a leader to a deluxe, but still, it shows how much of a step up this new SS 86 is. Great review. I can't wait to get him myself!
Looking at both of them, side-by-side, the only material difference I can see is the scale. Given the difference in price, I wouldn't exactly call the SS a "night-and-day" upgrade. The old one still looks extremely decent.
I love these versions, but I REALLY with they'd have integrated the little "secret compartments" from the old G1 versions, even though they don't really have a purpose. When I first unboxed Sludge I thought he actually had it, but no, it's just an armor panel.
Well, with Snarl anyway. With Grimlock and Sludge they absolutely just kinda....threw them on the back. Not sure what else you could really do though, in fairness. Good news is Swoop is like Slag, in that the head is a part of the design and not just kibble.
All I gotta say is that Swoop needs to scale the same size as his fellow Dinobots in bot mode. and hopefully Snarl won't be as hard to find as the others were.
In an odd way, I think it would be kinda cool if they somehow keep Snarl & Swoop with the same coloring gold/yellow dino heads because they were add-ons to the original team of 3 in the G1 cartoon...if there shrewd enough to actually make that distinction, might be a cool set to actually show that but we'll see...I can't wait for these figures to drop because I've stopped collecting mainline figures but I still want to complete the Dinobots
while the yellow-goldish plastic of head and legs stands out, it's also true that they're keeping with the "each dinobot has its own coloring quirk", with Slug having good portions of gray plastic and Sludge having the silver paint apps, so in a way he still fits.
I wish Hasbro would make more accessory packs, like the Centurion Drone. It'd be cool if they made something like the training drone Hotrod fights in that one scene and have it come with all the Dinobot's missing swords and snarl's gun for the SS86 line.
The shade of yellow used for the Dino head and legs are still gonna take some getting used to for me. It just makes him stick out compared to the others. Other than that, he's practically flawless. Can't wait for him to come out!
@@greninja-qm2tz as in, that's his colour in the film. If they matched the colours with the others, a lot of others will whine. So basically, they can't win lol
I concur that the dino head and legs could’ve been painted gold, like his brothers. Cheap decision by HasTak. The rest is pretty awesome! Hope Swoop will be well painted. Great review.
Maybe they thought the transformation might likely chip gold paint on the dino head and went for unpainted instead? I can't imagine they'd intentionally cheap out on something like that, when they paid so much attention to detail overall.
They do that with their Masterpiece line as well. It'll be completely painted except for pieces that moves a lot or if it might chip because of the transformation.
That's my guess. Snarl is the only dinobot that features significant amounts of gold on sections of plastic that need to be tucked away tightly away and/or articulated. Worse, due to the transformation and design they're almost all very small. His head and legs would get chipped to hell and back if they were painted, and if they were unpainted gold plastic it's probably bound for gold plastic syndrome.
I'm waiting for the blue Swoop to be a Hasbro Exclusive and the red one for general release to my dismay. Maybe since Swoop is smaller than the others they will pack the swords for thr rest of the team with him to balance out that price point.
I know this is nitpicking, but the split head is a bit of a deal breaker. Not the fact that it splits in half - that's faithful to the original, but the fact that the two halves don't hold together more securely. Better if they had kept the head whole and figured a way to hide it into one leg.
I will likely pick him up. The head splitting gap is terrible though. I’m sure there will hopefully be some after market kit that helps keep the head closer together.
Wow! The engineering on these guys is clever & surprising! You really wouldn’t expect the level of detail & moving parts from these guys looking at the bot modes.😍🥰😍
Since Snarl and Swoop came later in the cartoon, maybe they will make Swoop with the same yellow/gold plastic to pair them up and distinguish them from the first three. IDK, just a thought.
I wonder if Snarl (and Swoop potentially) have yellow on them because they were created separate from Grimlock, Slug and Sludge in the series? I hope that's the case.
They need to fix that split head before official release, but I remember Ironhide had similar issues before release and nothing changed so chances are we're already getting split heads.
Looks like a great model. I had what I'm guessing was an original G1 snap as a kid. Seem to remember those Dino bots all had shiny gold parts and some posts were a semi transparent plastic
Put a drop of Krazy Glue on the peg then close the head together & pull it apart immediately. Then let the glue dry. You want to make the hole a tiny bit smaller/tighter so the peg will hold. A thin layer of dried glue will make the hole ever so slightly smaller.
I can't wait to see how Swoop turns out in this line!! Is it sad that I want to hope to see Scorn (Spinosaurus) and Scowl (Ankylosaurus) get the G1 treatment like Slash did in Power of the Primes? Seeing how well done the Dinobots have been in StudioSeries86 has me hyped to see Scorn and Scowl in the G1 Style, especially with this level of engineering; heck, I wouldn't complain if they revisited Slash and upgraded her to the Deluxe Class and keeping the same G1 Style along with Scorn and Scowl (as Leader Class, of course)
