Working and homeless! The new slogan. It's not always drug addiction that leads to this. We NEED to stop this stereotype. Cost of living, especially rent is far outpacing wages which are not even remotely keeping up.. For people with no roommates or family to move in with and not making more than 75K, it's rough out there.
Agree ..me and my spouse both are constantly on the grind but we can't move from our house because a comparable place would be six or seven hundred more ...we are older no drugs no drinking and pay all our bills and have less and less at the end of month like the last few days we may have no money

The system is designed NOT for the benefit of ordinary people but for the 10% most wealthy, and particularly for the 1%. Even in the US, it was always this hard to survive until after World War II. People worked on farms, then in factories, then had the Great Depression. We had a mostly good run for about 60 years (1946-2006). Actually my theory is that this current situation is mostly the unintended consequence of women entering the work force to such an extent, which finally resulted in the housing market pricing out households with one middle class income instead of two.
Hey thank God Biden us sending billions to others countries wars and says we can afford it. I am seriously to fing point of grabbing the flag and heading south,
This is called living outside of your means. That’s the problem with people in this country. Everybody feels like they’re entitled to having at all for nothing. If you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t be living in a $2400 apartment. I do not feel sorry for her at all.
These high rents make it impossible for people to build disposable income to put toward a safety net. They’re on the fault line and all it takes is one mishap and they’re back to ground zero. It’s really sad.
Vote out Biden or we’ll all be poor. Democrats are making the middle class poor. They’re trying to make America a socialist country. That means everyone is poor except for the 1 percent. There is no middle class in a socialist society.
I thought it was just major cities. It pains me to see our fellow working class citizens being exploited to our limits. Bless her heart for sharing her story.
Every aspect of the current housing shortage and costs, are directly related to the government destruction of free capitalist control and competition that once prevailed in the rental industry . It is the best example of what happens when socialist controls and practices invade an industry. The only survivors are the large industrial corporations like those now in control of the rental business.
@@Partysize2rubbish its the imvestment groups buying up homes and raising rent squeezing families dry. Got absolutely NOTHING to do with socialism. That's completely illogical and insane.

@@Spoiled_horsegirl she made one but he forgot to attach it to the video! it’s titled “Escaping Survival Mode and Chronic Homelessness” and even shares more details on her story
For everyone saying she had better options, did you hear her say the rental place only gave her 24hrs to decide and applications are $250! She isn’t lying! Rent starts at $2500 here in Miami for again, a single Mother in a partially safe neighborhood, br ya! This is the new normal until we fight the damn system.
Yeah it's HARD out here with trying to rent and almost impossible to even think of buying a home now unless you're rich. My rent went from $1,235 in 2021 to $1,800 now. But if I had to leave this place I would only find more expensive rent around this area. I take home $2,200 per month. So after my rent I only have $400 to cover food, gas, utilities, cell phone, and internet. I am unable to keep going like this.
Thank you 🙏 there are many more details explaining some of the factors that contributed to extremely limited (almost none at all) options. To have not signed the lease at this complex would have been a huge gamble. And moving to a cheaper place is not nearly so simple as many seem to think. I’ve included deeper details in the gofundme. It’s realllly long lol. Even that however is a very abbreviated version of what we have and continue to face. I’ve tried to avoid looking at the comments. It’s just best I think. I happened to just glance at your comment tho and thought I’d take a minute to say thank you for picking up on and pointing out my mention of few options and believing me when I said that. There is so much more to our story than what has been told, and I would gladly move myself and family into a cheaper rental if given the opportunity. I’ve lived with 3 children out of a minivan before and very literally sought out the safest looking bush or dumpster to sleep behind in my past. I have no problem living in smaller places, or out of a van or rv. We’ve survived coping with so much less. Even the apartments we were forced to leave were full of registered sex offenders, criminals, those freshly out of prison, and the meth troubles at that complex were insane. Still tho, I could lock the door and pray for safety. I lived there because my credit and rental history were poor, and this complex had a reputation for taking anyone. Also had reputation for bug infections, mold, very poor maintenance, but was best I could get in that moment. I would even listen to the suggestions from those who believe I’ve made poor decisions and could be doing life better. If there’s something they could teach me I would be very open to that and grateful for advice that could truly reduce some of my hardships. I haven’t received feedback yet tho that takes everything into consideration that landed me right here, right now. But I would listen and either put the advice to good use or explain how and why it has not been an option for me in the past. It is comforting to know some understand, care, and recognize the need for a major course correction within our society which fuels this cycle. I know it’s important to recognize our mistakes, take responsibility for our actions, and make changes that produce more desirable outcomes. That eternal truth applies not only to individuals, but also groups/communities/nations as a whole. Conditions in this nation have developed and kept thriving that hold families in this pattern. Those who do absolutely everything in their power to escape this cycle remain trapped. It takes so much more than their hard work alone to get out of this. As a nation there has to be a decision to change conditions in such a way that those giving their all have the ability to attain the most bare basic necessities of life in exchange for their labor. Collectively as a nation, responsibility for these problems has not been realized yet and an appropriate level of responsibility assumed to change these conditions. So they persist. It’s easier to point fingers at those in this position as the irresponsible, slothful ones that aren’t doing enough. Sorry I’m long winded lol… thanks again though. Every expression of understanding and care really mean a lot. 😊
Ain't know fightimg the damn system. You all need to wake up! This is what it is and what it's gone be! In fact, it's about to get way worse in the real near future. We are ALL just a few paychecks away of being homeless due to circumstances beyond our control. This woman sounds like she’s doing all she could to keep her head above water. I also was in her position where I had to work all the time, full & part-time jobs, and even though I felt, I was poverty level, according to the government, I was less than five dollars over the limit, and therefore received nothing so I commend this woman. Thank God, I am not this woman anymore and I have about two years worth saved up in case of an emergency, but not everyone is that fortunate. I picked myself up & I knew I never wanted to be there again, but it was a long road to get here & I never forget where I came from 🙌🏻
Same here. Years ago, we made $8 too much to receive food stamps. Working full time, going to college full time, 3 children under 8 yrs old. We are college grads now, kids are grown, and here we are, one paycheck away from losing it all. Damn.
How is this possible? Do you two have degrees in left-handed puppetry? All the advantages and no money. Yet my wife and I only graduated high school. Had run of the mill jobs. No some of us have emergency funds. I have 2 years worth of funds in savings. The data speaks to the fact that most Americans are irresponsible but some are not.
@@francishall9410 I was definitely not irresponsible, I just chose to walk away from a domestic violence, marriage with a teenager in tow and was given state aid, but still not enough because I was still legally married so I had to work, budget and do without so that my child could have what most teenagers have and I just mean a decent pair of sneakers, jeans, and some new shirts. As I said, sometimes circumstances dictate our lives. Fast forward, I divorced that husband, and a few years later met my forever husband who is very financially secure and took on my child as his own and now I don’t have to worry, but I also never forget where I came from.

I’m a 70 yr old retired disabled renter and for the first time in my life I’m struggling with finding affordable rentals that are in a safe area. I’ve never ever seen anything like this😢
@@independ4416 Those type of rentals require one to be at or below the artificially low poverty line. Most on SSA receive just above that which, in turn, disqualifies them for these rentals. The Feds set them at that level on purpose! And then anything through a rental company requires a household income of rent times 3. A very large majority of seniors do not qualify for that. Heck, many from any age bracket do not qualify for that very reason. Then you have younger people telling them to go get a job. First off, due to an aging body, many cannot work most jobs. And even those who can and are willing to, cannot get hired because of extreme age discrimination. By the way, just because you do see a lot of seniors working, doesn't mean those places will hire you. You have to keep in mind the saturation factor. There are only so many jobs, but a whole lot more people looking who cannot even get an interview, let alone hired. And just because they have a sign or an ad, doesn't mean that they are actually hiring. That's a whole other nasty can of worms.
The truth is that they have become the same evil. Voter #1: “Who did you vote for president?” Voter #2: “I voted for the Zionist, false-flag hiding, vaccine pushing pedophile.” Voter #1: “I’m sorry, but you need to be more specific.” What I discovered is that nobody I vote for is coming to save me. I unregistered to vote due to the fact that everyone in government has to sign AIPAC's loyalty oath to Israel and no one gets into positions of power unless they are completely controllable. Democrats are Marxist Communists and Republicans are Corporate Communists. They both shit out of the same hole. The fish rots from the head down. 1 percenters are child rapists connected to convicted billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. America's leaders are all former associates of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
I think the government is quite generous, actually. Over the last 15 months they’ve given $150 BILLION of the money they have collected from American taxpayers and given it to a country in Eastern Europe that’s fighting a war with another country in Eastern Europe. Now they are talking about giving them another $80 billion this year.See? Generous.
I remember when normal rent 4 years ago was $1000 for a 2 bedroom apt. Now I live in beautiful Utah paying $2400/mo for a 4 bedroom/3 car garage house! Never going back to Arizona. Expensive for low value.
EDIT: Let me clarify my comment. Of course it “matters” how she got here in the sense of needing to learn from her mistakes, etc. But what matters the MOST at this point, is people need affordable housing. Period. It doesn’t matter HOW she got into this situation. That’s in the past. It’s totally unacceptable that this is today’s reality for so many. Wages have been stagnant, or even lost value while rents, and the cost of living in general, have skyrocketed
@@0oohhhlala - I used to own two rentals so I know being a landlord can be stressful. My last tenants in my last rental property (which was in immaculate condition) caused about $10,000 in damage. We asked them to move because we decided to sell the house. It took us over a month to get the interior back to the condition it was in before they moved in. However, private equity firms and hedge funds have bought up massive amounts real estate and they are evil.
@@0oohhhlala What most people do not understand is that there is overhead in a rental property. Property taxes for a modest single family home alone is like $400 - 600 a month. This is in smaller cities where housing prices are under 400K. Where this woman is that place looks pretty much upscale. There are probably much less expensive places in other areas of that city. What I am seeing is that she has decided to live in an area that is not affordable for her. Kind of like the guy who buys a $70K pickup while making 40K a year and who complains about the cost of everything. I see a lot of people like that where I live in Florida. People who have $120K worth of vehicles in the driveway along with a boat and a couple ATV's while complaining they can't make ends meet. Well? It's called living within your budget. I do know some landlords who do screw people. The properties are not taken care of yet they charge top dollar for rent. But, most are just trying to cover costs and make a couple hundred a month profit. The woman in this video seems like a good example of a person not living within her budget. A place like that complex would be out of reach for most people I know. But the people I know find a cheaper place and have no where near the problems this woman is having. I look at the apartment and the stuff they have and again, she is living beyond her means. An apartment like that even in Europe would be expensive...

Because most people, when times were decent, they weren’t saving. They were going out to eat, buying unnecessary stuff, going on vacays etc. I had some fellow co workers make fun of me for using a flip phone 10 years ago when everyone else was standing in line to pay $1,000 for a new iPhone. That’s just one example. But I was able to put new tires on my car while others didn’t have that money for tires. I prioritized my expenses.

How about two different senior women whom sleep at a graveyard saying at least they have a running faucet. Keep voting democrat, sure they’ll enjoy the company, at least having protection if unintended intrusion occurs. Absolute stellar domestic policy at its best.
I’m sorry but is it me, or does that apartment complex look like a prison or public storage facility with nice landscaping? $2400.00 a month? She needs to find an older apartment building that is owner occupied for less and save her money. She is so going to get shafted again if she stays there. Corporate owned rental complexes will rape you blind. The rent will always go up.
I agree. I don't think they'll be there much longer, unfortunately. Those b*stard owners will jack up the rent to $3k. I wonder why she doesn't apply for disability because of her back issues.
The age of the property doesn't matter... landlords do it (overcharge) because they can. The laws on the books are for "Corporate America" not the voting constitutes. We need delegates that work on behalf of the typical American.
I agree that I would hope they could find more affordable housing. I dont know that area at all, but maybe someone familiar with that area could help them w/ that? It seems like that would be a GREAT place to start.
She is amazing to be willing to talk about her situation on camera. This is happening all over the country. It is so sad, and scary. I am very thankful this is not my situation, but the reality is ANYONE is one emergency, one bad day, one lost job, one horrible situation from ending up like this. I’ve been where she is. We all are broke and house poor or rent poor. The fed wants us to struggle while they make the fat cats richer. I feel for her. We were homeless for two years at one time.
Or maybe some people just make bad financial decisions. I have friends who have made more money than me who are now in their 50's and don't own a home. I made multiple mortgage payments a month when I could, lived like I was poor and got debt free. I started out as an adult with $40 a box of food, some clothes and a bike. Didn't have a reliable car until I was 31. I never whined like I was owed anything and I always paid my rent before anything else -- even food.
My brother are Masters of Economics and in 1999 they showed me a scary picture of the coming DEPRESSION !! It looked really bad but now that we are here and I project out 5 - 10 more years and it looks like a place I used to visit called " CUBA " I have Bipolar and I could not possibly work and function with this rocket ride. I can hear the terror in this poor ladies throat. Now, up here in Canada we now have homeless people wandering around in our area. Never saw that in the suburbs before.
I was evicted by a private equity firm that bought out our complex and evicted everyone. There wasn't any reason, aside from their excuse to remodel, then they jacked up the rent. These private equity firms should be investigated. This shouldn't happen anywhere in the US. That's what corporate politicians get you, and they're on both sides.
Ok but most small mom & pop landlords do the same exact thing. The corporate landlords simply reflect & amplify the mindset of the general populace and this whole idea about everybody & their mother wanting be some version of a real estate mogul and live off the rent collected from others. Like Adam Smiths said in Wealth of Nations. Landlords are just parasites at the core.
The question you should be asking is WHY private equity firms have suddenly been interested in real estate in the last 10 years. Go ask the Federal Reserve. They know why. Accomodative monetary policy made speculative investment in real estate uniquely profitable. Don't blame the private equity firms. They are doing exactly what the government incentivized them to do. This is 100% the fault of our government which makes it 100% our fault because we elected them.
Good bless this lady and all of those affected by this crisis. Arizona like many other states has become almost impossible. We are all so close to being in her situation.
Hey Super I saw one of your videos from a NY post article. It's awesome seeing your channel find growth/success. It doesn't even seem legal what the landlords did to this lady.
She said they've experienced homelessness before. They've apparently have a history of making bad decisions. Causing negative remarks on the daughter's history is deplorable.

My God, I thought our situation was dire, but she’s got me beat. I am in a homeless situation with health problems probably stemming from years of stress, so I can’t work and my 23-year-old daughter is running into the same situation here in Connecticut. Everybody is out to take advantage of people. I’ve been sitting crying for days and days. There really isn’t a solution in sight for me and my daughter and I know it could be a hell of a lot worse and that scares the shit out of me every day all day. All of this has put a serious toll on my mental health my depression and anxiety and complete hopelessness is devouring me. I’ve been running like an absolute machine, raising two children and all the issues that come up like the lady with her daughter having MS. I just know this is not going to end well for me and countless others like the lady on this video. Physical health problems, mental and emotional problems, and then they get passed down through the generations like the daughters still have anxiety about being homeless from when they were put in the orphanage. It’s a total catch 22. I’ve always been a dreamer and had hope but society has other plans. I’ll stop ranting and complaining I just am hurting and I feel so bad for everybody in this situation. Kind of seems like it’s easier to live in a tent somewhere where it’s warm then to let these evil money hungry people kill us slowly. One last thing what really kills me is the feeling of complete failure, the low self-esteem, the shame and my feelings of complete incompetence. The lady in this video shows so much strength and all the ways that she works to make extra money. She’s talented and educated and her daughter is even a nurse. And now one small slip one teeny issue, and you could be done and backslide for years and maybe never even recover. So cruel.
This hits home hard. I was raised in the 70's with a single mother who made slightly above all the requirements of assistance. I asked for free breakfast in Kindergarten and my mom told me we did not qualify so we went to school hungry. My mom made us lunch but we went many hours in the am with growling stomaches. People who love to judge have grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends who help but for many they have no one to help and therefore they fall behind and trust me it does not take much. Life will throw many things at you at once and if you do not have that support system it will knock you straight to the ground and when you are there people will think oh she had drug problems, alcohol problems, mental problems or no morales. My brother and I were alone at home in Kindergarten with no food to many times to count cuz my mom had to work to pay for those over inflated bills. I hate to say it but those times are coming again for many families and so many precious children will suffer.
It’s sad to say it is the same everywhere, it is beyond frustrating to work our asses off just to worry about where to get some food or how to get on top of rent that is unfairly and greedily going up, and what the f___ is that about a $250 application fee…that is greed at its finest and the people who collects those GREEDY GOUGING fees should be ASHAMED of themselves!!!!!!
In 1990 when I moved out of my childhood home, my rent was $350/month for a nice 1 bedroom apartment, and the total bills were about $600. I made $17/hr at the local cable company. My kids make a little more, but their bills are around $2k with roommates for housing alone. This country is f_cked.

But, its nearly impossible today because so many places are wanting you to pay abnormal prices just for a one bedroom and some are supposed to be the affordable ones.
Try to live with them long as you can , keep saving your money and building your credit. The housing market is going to crash soon so try to hold off moving on your on
That and the fact that you have to make three times he rent to qualify is crazy. If rent is 2500 a month you have to be bringing in 7500 per month two people working blue color or minimum wage don’t come close to that a month.
@user-wh5ir4fo4rI live in upstate NY and you can't even get a studio apartment for less then 800 and that's the crappy ones. You want a good studio or 1 bedroom apartment you're gonna pay atleast 1200. I've seen 1 bedroom apartments rent as high as 3500. Its utterly ridiculous
I was living with my elderly parents and sister in a 3 bedroom apartment in San Diego because I could not afford to pay rent on my own. The 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment was $2400 monthly. When we got a notice that the rent was going up $400 we decided to move. My parents and sister was moving to Las Vegas but I was not going to move with them. I found a room for rent in San Diego for $800 a month. The rent in the 3 bedroom where we lived now goes for over $4,000!

This is so tragic. I think I feel the most for the RN daughter Savannah who is bearing a lot of the financial burden of her family. I watched this play out my entire life with my mom constantly taking care of my grandma. My grandma was a drug addict, alcoholic, bounced around from place to place and had bouts of homelessness. My mom continued to clean up her mess (financial, personal, everything!) and be her responsible rock until her death. It angered me because a child shouldn't have to parent THEIR parent. That being said, I would do ANYTHING for my mom so I understand. I just feel bad for Savannah the most in this situation. I read that she had to give up her maternity leave with her newborn daughter to go back to work to support her mom/sisters. How unfair. So much for the "American dream". Wishing this family the very best

I'm sure there are "landlords" out there who just collect these fees from several prospective tenants every month and never rent their unit out at all... even though that would be fraud if you could prove it.

I checked out rentals in Maricopa County and found many available units, nice ones too, for half of what she's paying. Even assuming there are additional fees, it's hard to believe she can't find anything more reasonably priced.
Maybe you missed it. This was the only place they could find with a 90 day window to move from their previous apartment. Then they were late ONCE and the apartment filed for eviction. They were able to stay when they paid all the rent plus fees, but the eviction is still on the credit of her co-signer - her daughter. That means they cannot move because they won’t be approved for another apartment while the eviction is on her credit.

This is heartbreaking. There's something seriously wrong with this country. It shouldn't be this hard to just survive.

Ain't know fightimg the damn system. You all need to wake up! This is what it is and what it's gone be! In fact, it's about to get way worse in the real near future. The problem is some people have burnt bridges and now it ain"t know help to be found. People are now seeing the government ain"t got yah back like you thought they did. It's too late to repair that issue. Best I can tell you is you better figure out how to make some more money, and it better work to BUCKLE-UP because it's about to get bumpy!
Damn.
I don't believe that one paycheck away from homeless

Thanks for telling her that.
Resources are always helpful and welcomed!❤
Landlords have to protect themselves too!! Own a property or work in property management, and you’ll understand. I must support myself, too
@@0oohhhlala - I used to own two rentals so I know being a landlord can be stressful.
@@0oohhhlala What most people do not understand is that there is overhead in
a rental property. Property taxes for a modest single family home alone is
like $400 - 600 a month. This is in smaller cities where housing prices are
under 400K. Where this woman is that place looks pretty much upscale.
There are probably much less expensive places in other areas of that city.
What I am seeing is that she has decided to live in an area that
is not affordable for her. Kind of like the guy who buys
a $70K pickup while making 40K a year and who complains about
the cost of everything. I see a lot of people like that where I live in
Florida. People who have $120K worth of vehicles in the driveway along with a boat and
a couple ATV's while complaining they can't make ends meet. Well?
It's called living within your budget. I do know some landlords who do screw people.
The properties are not taken care of yet they charge top dollar for rent.
But, most are just trying to cover costs and make a couple hundred a month profit.
The woman in this video seems like a good example of a person not living within
her budget. A place like that complex would be out of reach for most people I know.
But the people I know find a cheaper place and have no where near the problems this woman is having.
I look at the apartment and the stuff they have and again, she is living beyond her means.
An apartment like that even in Europe would be expensive...
I’m 60 and house and cars are paid for. I can’t imagine having to go through this. Prayers to all that are. Something is seriously wrong with America😢.

That’s just one example. But I was able to put new tires on my car while others didn’t have that money for tires. I prioritized my expenses.

I've never understood how application fees are even legal or at least not limited to the real cost of vetting someone... maybe $50 for a credit/criminal check. I'm sure there are "landlords" out there who just collect these fees from several prospective tenants every month and never rent their unit out at all... even though that would be fraud if you could prove it.

This is correct. Many times they’ll take the application fee knowing full well that the tenant will be rejected. The kicker is that these application fees are non-refundable. If they’re charging more than $50, be suspicious.

Even assuming there are additional fees, it's hard to believe she can't find anything more reasonably priced.
Exactly they just living beyond there means i’ borderline 6 figs and id never sign a lease paying this much but it comes down to financial literacy
