THIS is where we should concentrate our ambition technologically.... in furthering the capabilities and capability of underwater drones that can go deeper and see better, further than any before it. This Is how we will explore our oceans.
From a diver that does marine life surveys at this underwater park (seacrest): • School of silver fish under the dock with the black vertical stripe: Pile Surfperch • The "interesting creature": actually a cluster of eggs if that's what you were referring to (from a nudibranch I think) • What you called a sea slug (next to the starfish): Giant plumose anemone with it's mouth/tentacles pulled in. • Fish generally eat small crustaceans and smaller fish. Not the stuff you see on the pilling however there are other invertebrates that can eat all that good stuff. • "crazy thing on screen" are actually feather duster worms, not anemones. Many marine worms create calcified tubes like you see for protection. • Rockfish: Brown Rockfish (you got that one - nice job!) Also... they are called pilings, not pylons :-) Fun demo, thanks. @UC1MwJy1R0nGQkXxRD9p-zTQ
Thank you Gladius for sending me a drone a few weeks after watching my video review. That was nice of you! The one we used in the video was just a review unit. I LOVE THIS THING!
It's like the DJI Mavic Pro of the Sea 👍 Except when your battery dies you can just pull it back in by its cable instead of picking up all the busted pieces off the ground 😉
If you have a cable already connected why would they not run power through it for theoretically endless power? Video signal? Maybe it would be too big? Maybe I'm missing something.
The cable is for control signals, I'm guessing (because wireless signals don't reach in water). That said, it doesn't need big wires for that, so the cable can be small and flexible. If you want to route power over that length cable you'd need a lot bigger wires, and the whole tether becomes clunky and stiff. Thats5why there's a battery in the drone - power comes from that, and the tiny wires are enough to carry the signals to control it. ;)
Too much power loss unless you used considerably larger wire for at least two of the leads which would cause the cable to be too hard to manage and too heavy making the drone unstable and need even more power , larger motors, etc. ..... engineering is a balancing act and these guys did a very good job
Good question, the cable is super bright yellow so you just turn around, fire up the lights and follow it home because it glows like a neon beacon. Also, if it gets really tangled up or you get lost just surface the craft, drive it over to the dock so you can grab it and then just disconnect the cable and pull it through from the spool side and reconnect it and go again. There are lots of ways to recover the worst being losing the cable if some how you get it so snagged you can't back track or pull it free in which case you just buy another cable. That being said though we had no problems recovering from snags and the cable is really strong, it actually at one point got pinched between the floating dock and we had to pull super hard to get the cable out and it was fine and the coating on the cable was undamaged.
@@BaldMancTwat Make one loop around the pylon then on the way back confuse going over/under the teather... I would certainly loose that thing first try.
@@georgf9279 The tether is neutrally buoyant and highly visible so you would have to be trying pretty hard to tie a knot. We had no such problems and I was driving around tons of pileons, just come back the way you came.
Pretty cool device! My dad often likes to watch Nautilus live when they are in season for their expedition. The ROVs they use are Hercules and Argus. These are the real deal of course. You can check out their live-stream through their website or through RUclips. I think they are docked in Honolulu at the moment. It's amazing what's under the sea!
Wow, that is really cool! Yeah, that pro stuff I'm guessing costs about 100x more than this does at minimum but cant argue with the results. I would love to go down in a real submarine some day that isn't tethered like the old one at Disney Land.
@@Barnacules Would be cool to use on a relatively clear lake. You might find some interesting stuff. I would be too afraid to go on a submarine. Though they are much safer than they were a long time ago. I have a phobia of closed in spaces.

Just a smudge, I got a little to overzealous and rammed into a kept bed at first 😉 We just brought her up and wiped down the lens. Zero fogging issues!
Unfortunately no, this would require the cable to be much heavier to carry the power required. That being said it does charge through that port on the top though which is nice so there aren't any points where water can sneak in.
So freaking cool. I'd use this to explore the lakes and canals near me, not just a backyard pool, lol. Great to see more of you and your videos, too. Hope you keep feeling better and better, buddy :D
Using it in a pool would just be fun for screwing around with people honestly or inspecting things like cracks, etc without having to jump in and get wet or keep coming up for air. Where this thing really shines is in open water, being able to just go down and explore 330ft around you in every direction including straight down in pretty epic. It's a little too late for this year especially with the Mississippi River going back above flood stage in a couple of days (I'm at Lock and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River and this year has been horrible with numerous broken flood records) .... but maybe next year and it is actually cheaper than the Panasonic Tough Pad I bought this year and barely got to use ( See how I've already been able to justify the cost ...... ) Now if I can only figure out how to sync it to the sidescan maps I make and make split screen videos with the scan on one side and live video on the other .... Great Vidoe. I have had my mini for about eight months and had a chance to use it in jamacia two weeks ago.
