I was seriously just looking at this antenna last night. Are you spying on me? 😂 I couldn't find a solution, then bam your video showed up! Awesome video!
Nice! I hope my video will help more people in case they wanted to do this same mod. I strongly believe Boxer should have came from the factory with this same antenna already installed (Pocket's antenna). Not just that mod is fairly easy to do, with the least amount of tinkering around the transmitter and altering things... but the looks of it at the end does it for me totally.
Joshua Bardwell's 10/21 livestream brought me here. Fantastic video my friend! And the music was just as awesome! Definitely sharing with my FPV friends.
I was thinking about it while ago, but promptly gave up... only because there is literally tons of available YT videos that are doing the same. A completely random comment but the bass in your vocal is very powerful! Even removing the bass completely from my bookshelf speakers leave plenty of bass left for it to sound as if I have the bass boosted on my eq =)
Thank you for your comment, greatly appreciated. I've fixed it since 1 month after the upload... but unfortunately, RUclips does not allow "replacing" or "updating" the video. I can only delete this one (and lose all the views and people would lose link to this video), and make a re-upload... I just did this mod. I ended up using the file with the circular and removable end. I super glued the inside barrel together and it is making a strong connection. Your tutorial was amazing so thank you. I did it on the boxer crush and it was pretty much the same process.
Sorry, not sure what you meant by "removable end". Whole swivel is supposed to be just one piece. Also, as per my description under the video, I can't recommend first two pieces I've used in this video anymore, that's why links are crossed now. I've designed correct piece with 100% correct clearances, and that is the only one I can recommend at the moment. Link is available in the description.
Thank you! I love it, not just that it allows me to make my Boxer little more compact and easier to travel with, but it makes it little nicer as well. I've never liked that thin, easy-to-bent-and-screw-up original antenna.
Note for anyone trying this mod with the Boxer Max: Unlike the Boxer Crush, the Boxer Max requires you to remove the two potentiometer dials to remove the main board: this requires a 1mm hex driver to loosen the set screws.
Thank you for this great info. I am sure it might help to those who own Max version of this transmitter. Unfortunately I don't own Max or Crush version, so not aware of any differences. My Boxer is the version before Crush came out, so this video explains how to do it with "standard" Boxer version.
I have boxer with 4 in 1 system. I tried the mod but the ufl connector on the pocket antenna is 1 cm short. Apart from using a ufl extension, do you think opening up the pocket antenna and swapping it with a longer expresslrs T receiver antenna would work
Yes, mine is ELRS version. It should be completely safe if you are careful with opening that Pocket antenna. I just looked at the spare one I have here, and it's actually super easy to open the plastic cover. There are two thin tabs holding everything together, and you should carefully and slowly pry it open trying not to damage the plastic. Antenna inside can easily be replaced with the longer one with the same specs if you have it. I'd always rather do that, than go through some u.fl extension. That's basically adding another joint/break point and with these signals I'd not play too much with interfering between the antenna tip and the connection point on the Boxer board. One clean line is the best you can have. Maybe that extension would not do anything significant to weaken the signal (if it's a good quality of course), but I'd still rather go with one piece, longer antenna.

Hi, I've been following you since you brought out the antenna modification on the Radiomaster Boxer. I ask you, did you use a press in the battery compartment of the Boxer to hold the battery in place? If you have done it can you publish the Stl file please. Thank you
No, it's a simple packaging foam, and I've simply cut it using scissors. Printing anything would for sure add some weight, and I did not want to do it, especially now when I have AG01 gimbals installed too... they are quite heavier than standard gimbals my radio came with, so whole radio feels little heavier already. Foam I've used in that battery compartment literally has no measurable weight, it's less than half a gram, even lighter. You can see it here: imgur.com/a/YFlNiIV
If you mean, the original Carry Case... yes, it fits perfectly inside, just like it's made for it. There is a slot for antenna, and it has exactly the shape of this Radiomaster Pocket's antenna.
...as a proof, I've uploaded 3 photos here: imgur.com/a/PKYepwJ - there is actually quite a space left at the top where antenna resides, for cables, straps, even external antenna module if needed (I carry my Crossfire module there, and Radiomaster Ranger Nano for my Zorro).
@@Seii-FPV Just one small detail, that you maybe could put into description. Is that the top usb can't fit nicely, you have to rotate the antena 90 degrees. Or sand down one side of it like I did. That would be only small thing, in otherwise so awsome upgrade.
Just a small rotation, maybe as little as 6-10 degrees is enough to move the antenna out of the way. At least with my sviwel design piece, which I mentioned in my video description I ended up using instead of other two options (D̶a̶n̶o̶F̶P̶V̶ and B̶i̶k̶e̶r̶n̶i̶c̶k̶m̶n̶). It really takes as little as couple of degrees to rotate the antenna out of the way, so USB can easily plug into the socket. The thing is, there are various different USB connectors, some are thick, and I do have one of those low profile ones. For those, it's not necessary to turn antenna not even a single degree, they can still plug without any problems.
Thank you so much for stopping by and taking your precious time to watch my video. And of course, thank you for the swivel mount design. I've got mine printed in PETG, but I believe even TPU would work just fine :)
Read the description under this video please. Range should be the same, maybe even tiny bit better. The one thing is for sure, there is literally no logical reason why it should degrade. Antennas internals are identical, and I did not hide it inside the case like many are doing currently. There is no need, since it's folding antenna now and it can easily be tucked away. I've explained the reasoning behind the claim that signal should be equal to the original antenna it in the description, that's why I am pointing you there. Also, at 5:31 sec mark into this video, I am talking about it. This antenna connects directly to the u.FL connector inside the Boxer, avoiding going through u.FL to SMA adapter that is originally inside the case. So one less corner, meaning nothing else but cleaner signal. This Pocket antenna plugs directly into the u.FL connector inside. Unfortunately, I don't have any resources to scientifically test the range, but what I'm flying and where I'm flying, there is no difference in what I experienced before with the old antenna. Radiomaster wouldn't put this antenna in their Pocket radio if it was any less good. All those antennas that fit Boxer are pretty much the same, just different shapes.
@@pcj_fpv - It's fairly easy since it's plug'n'play antenna... just make sure you don't damage the original one (antenna and the u.FL to SMA adapter and its mount inside). Keep it if you ever want to go back. I have no reason to go back, this looks way better than the old setup, and I did not see any degradation in signal strength at all, and I still keep all the original parts... always better safe than sorry.
I have no idea. I do my designs and then send STL files to the company that 3D prints that for me. Company is literally 1200km away from my city, it's even different province here in Canada :)
It's inside the video description, under "Update 2" section. Here is the link from that same description: imgur.com/ybfek04 - as for the stick ends, those are called "Thumb Grippies Mini Mushroom Stick End" - I've literally tried them all, and none of them are as comfortable as these ones are. I adore them. It's of course personal preference, but I can fly as a thumber, pincher, or hybrid pinch/thumb, doesn't mater. Any use case, they're incredible! Not too hard, not too soft, they never "cactus" my fingertips.
Hi! I have a question, I watched one of your videos were your build a drone with the geprc mark5 frame. Did you have any problems with wiggly arms? My frame is new and it looks like the tolerance in the frame isn't that good, one of the arms moves side to side, it has the same problem as the Lumenier QAV-S v1 😢. If so, do you recommend something to solve that problem?
Nope, Mark 5 is stiff as it can be. In all of my custom builds GepRC Mark 5 and TBS Source One v5 are the most solid frames. QAV-S can have arms that move slightly, but nothing serious that can't be solved by tightening two screws that hold each arm. It's just, when you think you tightened it all the way, there is a half turn or so that basically makes them frozen in place and they won't move any more. Mark 5 on the other hand was super solid from the beginning, and right now, it's still the frame I find myself fly the most and enjoy it more than any other custom build I've done.
@@leninegarcia8391 - can you confirm you did a proper arm orientation? I did that animation to show the difference between the front and rear arms. They are not the same. Above mentioned animation can be found inside that video where I assembled GepRC Mark 5, but I also uploaded separate video with animation only. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/DbVF8FHG--c/видео.html - make sure you installed your arms the proper way.
Double-sided tape would probably work little better, since once you jam it inside, it would never fall out. With electrical tape, there is a chance it might slide out, after all that G-force pull.
It's mentioned inside the long description under this video, plus some other things related to antenna, like for example if it degrades the signal, and it does not at all, not a single bit. If anything, it can only improve it since I removed one extension point inside the connection to the board. Less hoops signal has to go through. Check the description please, there is even a link to the photo proving antenna can rotage 90 degrees. Also, it's recommended to read because I can't recommend other two swivel pieces any longer, I've designed my own, where I made much more precise clearances and made it so it rotates the antena with 90 degees stop without any problem. Source STL file is free to download.
It wasn't quite easy, they sit very snug... but I guess, practice makes it perfect. It does not go easy, but also, you should not force it. Slowly and patiently :) EDIT: and it's all video editing, cuts where they're required. No one wants to see me struggling to take those caps off for 20 seconds straight. I already removed them beforehand and put them back half way, so it's way easier to remove them for the video clip needed.
@@Seii-FPV thank you. Mine are holding on quite snug. Also can you take them off with case on right? You put yours back when pcb was in front case? Thanks for video. Great instructions.
I don't have Crush version, so I can't tell. Look here under the "RadioMaster Boxer Crush vs RadioMaster Boxer" section: www.tekrc.eu/shop/transmitters/boxer/radiomaster-boxer-crush-expresslrs
Only because the other one was too thick and it wouldn't allow antenna to correctly turn 90 degrees. If you forced it, it would start separatig top and bottom part of transmitter's shell, risking to break something. Other one, the round one works much better, but still not perfect since there is no hard stop when reaching 90 degrees. The good thing is... I don't use either one of those two anymore. I've replaced it with my own design, which works like a charm, exactly as it should. It's visible in my newer videos, that swivel piece is purple now, I also printed pink as well. But it's printed from my own STL file. I will upload it here under this video soon, so it will be ready for download. I've designed it with much better clearance.
I uploaded my own design that works perfectly now. Check the video description again. After I've fixed the problem with tolerances and the base being little too thick, I've ended up with new design that works amazing. The only one I can recommend at the moment, is 𝙎𝙚𝙞𝙞-𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧-𝘽𝙤𝙭𝙚𝙧-𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙡-𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧
I'm sorry, I am afraid I did not understand your question. Antenna is foldable, and with this little 3D printed part that allows it to be foldable, you can also rotate it 90 degrees for vertical orientation. For best reception/transmission, your Rx antenna and Tx antenna should be positioned in 90 degrees setup. If you installed your Rx antenna on your quad horizontally, your transmitter antenna should be 90 degrees, so - vertical with your radio. If you installed your Rx antenna on your quad vertically, radio should have antenna in horizontal position.

Nice 😎
Thank you so much for stopping by and taking your precious time to watch my video. And of course, thank you for the swivel mount design. I've got mine printed in PETG, but I believe even TPU would work just fine :)
Your boxer looks amazing! Where can I find 3ď printed part you use?
It's all under the video's description.
@@Seii-FPV thank you!
How about range?
@Seii-FPV Thank you for kind reply I'm gonna try it!
@@pcj_fpv - It's fairly easy since it's plug'n'play antenna... just make sure you don't damage the original one (antenna and the u.FL to SMA adapter and its mount inside). Keep it if you ever want to go back. I have no reason to go back, this looks way better than the old setup, and I did not see any degradation in signal strength at all, and I still keep all the original parts... always better safe than sorry.
what is the infill percentage in this 3d print
I have no idea. I do my designs and then send STL files to the company that 3D prints that for me. Company is literally 1200km away from my city, it's even different province here in Canada :)
Can you rotate the antenna verticle? or is it only horizontal that you can have it. Also which thumb grips are those? they look good.
@@Seii-FPV Thank you sir! great video.
great video !! poxer gang yeahhhhh hahah
Thank you! I am super happy with how it looks like now. This antenna is a cherry on the top of the cake :)
Nice job, I'll be doing this for sure...
Good luck! It's not difficult at all.
I might have bad luck ☹️. Mine isn't solid, I checked all the screws but doesn't work. Thanks for replying!
Yep, I checked it with your video, it was pretty good. I managed to solve it by sticking a piece of electrical tape between the arm that was moving
Double-sided tape would probably work little better, since once you jam it inside, it would never fall out. With electrical tape, there is a chance it might slide out, after all that G-force pull.
nice job, I wanted to know if the antenna rotates 90°. Thank you
It's mentioned inside the long description under this video, plus some other things related to antenna, like for example if it degrades the signal, and it does not at all, not a single bit.
JB brought me here. Sick mod will definitily do that aswell What sticks do u have?
Thank you. It's all under this video's description. Search for "stick ends" inside the description text to find out more.
Hey, how did you remove plastic covers from potentiometers so easily?
Yes, you can take them off with case on. It's just it was easier for me to do it when it was all in parts.
does this work on a Crush?
I don't have Crush version, so I can't tell. Look here under the "RadioMaster Boxer Crush vs RadioMaster Boxer" section: www.tekrc.eu/shop/transmitters/boxer/radiomaster-boxer-crush-expresslrs
Yes
Why did you change it to the round base?
The only one I can recommend at the moment, is 𝙎𝙚𝙞𝙞-𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧-𝘽𝙤𝙭𝙚𝙧-𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙡-𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧
how did you prevent the antenna moving sligtly?
I'm sorry, I am afraid I did not understand your question. Antenna is foldable, and with this little 3D printed part that allows it to be foldable, you can also rotate it 90 degrees for vertical orientation. For best reception/transmission, your Rx antenna and Tx antenna should be positioned in 90 degrees setup. If you installed your Rx antenna on your quad horizontally, your transmitter antenna should be 90 degrees, so - vertical with your radio. If you installed your Rx antenna on your quad vertically, radio should have antenna in horizontal position.
Is your Boxer case 3D printed?
No, it's not. rotorvillage.ca/radiomaster-boxer-shell-transparent-flash-sale , and I simply painted in from the inside. Whole process captured here: ruclips.net/video/b1h3Wm5ksEA/видео.html
