Hi, I just switched to Chrome OS just know. I was looking for a powerful Android tablet and found the Lenovo Ideapad duett 5 and I love it. As I saved a lot of money I also ordered a HP Chrombase. Now I am transferring all my data into the Chrome OS infrastructure.
Hey! I'm using ChromeOS since the 2011 Samsung Series 5 :) I've never bought Appl€ and I ditched M$ 8 years ago for Linux. But one year ago, I bought an Acer CXI4 10th gen i5 Chromebox. And indeed, what a relief in the updates field from any other OS. On the down side, it's the only ChromeOS machine that I saw having "BSD" (system freeze) or OS update fails ; but very few. About your video, I would add that Chromeboxes (like powerful Chromebooks) aren't only for Cloud work, thanks to Android and Linux apps. Eg: I use a simple Android file explorer to backup and retrieve files on my NAS because it is more comprehensive and fast than the ChromeOS file explorer. 2nd Eg: I use Thunderbird, GIMP or Filezilla over Linux and I still have my email history since 1999. Also, I like very much the ease to share any ChromeOS machine with several accounts. But what I like the most about this OS is that everything is always saved (except in Linux apps), one can suffer a power crash, or a simple life interruption ; when one turns the Chrome back on, all is there, ready for you to work, play or whatever. As I've been using computers since the early 80s, I can tell what a big mental shift it is to be able to trust a computer like that. Plus the last interface makeup is awesome! Cheers
I love seeing people who have made the jump to Chrome OS. Despite many objections from my IT professional friends who warned that I would lose a lot of function by moving from Windows to Chrome OS, I made the switch in 2017 and have never looked back. I have never regretted it either.
can i ask, does a chromebox have a select number of updates from google or is it more like how windows runs with getting all updates they put out no matter how long you have had the device?
Best move we made. Very helpful for the children using Chrome for school work. My wife and I used to be really into Windows phone.....I know😂. Anyway, it temporarily created an exciting vision for tech, was very practical for a short time then just imploded. I really felt the same about Windows desktop stuff and the whole Microsoft mindset and subscriptions 🤯. Things may change one day on Chrome but I'm enjoying the moment 😊
i know this is an old video but 6 months ago i installed chrome OS flex on a old hp elitedesk 800 g2 mini and it runs brilliant google support it witch is strange only thing missing is the play store but i just love how it runs it runs way better than windows i only switched as it does not support windows 11
I have a chromebook (using it right now as I type this comment) and I got it a few months ago and I honsely love it. The speakers are really nice, I love the touchscreen, really lightweight, and wasn't super expensive. Two of the annoying things about the chromebook I seen is that it updates a LOT and the one I got doesn't support stylus pen which made me sad . I pretty much use my chromebook to watch youtube when I am in bed, taking notes, talking to friends on discord when in bed (or when I have to use a webcam, the webcam isnt the best but it the only one I have) or doing research
I don’t see the point of a chrome book for serious users I will never use one if you want to watch videos you can do it on windows chrome only have one advantage and that’s hardware and specs the software is barebones so it’s fast and responsive but for serious work I don’t see the point but go ahead and enjoy your chrome book am more a Linux user it runs applications which is very important to me something the chrome book doesn’t support android apps doesn’t compare sorry
Great video that will help me choose to a Chromebox to replace my old desk top that crashed. Luckily i migrated to Chrome os so all files are on Drive.
Interesting. I can't find any Chromebox's with even close hardware than mid level Chromebooks like Acer Spin 713, 714, or any other CB with 12th gen intel i3 yet alone higher. what Chromebox are you referring to that are more powerful than these?
Can the Asus chromebox be powered by a single USB-C cable and also display to a monitor through that same single cable if it is plugged into a docking station or a monitor with high enough power delivery?
My old college machine I needed for virtualization has had chrome OS flex installed. Because it’s so overpowered for chrome os it runs the Linux apps I need no problem.
I have both. I have a Chromebox 4 that I upgraded to 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. I run a Sceptre curved monitor with a 4K logitech camera and a low cost C Cosycost microphone. Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to free up all the USB ports. This is home office. I have an ASUS Chromebook that is stock with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage and a 15 inch touchscreen. I don't use any PC's or MacBooks this is all I need.
Can any of the new chromeboxes support a 4K monitor at 120hz or better? CTL, a company in Portland, Oregon USA, is coming out with the Cx3-7 next month. I know it'll have a Core i7 13 gen processor and DP 1.4 so it should have no trouble running 4K at 60hz, but the spex on that processor are ambiguous, or at least I don't know how to interpret them.
I've been really impressed by ChromeOS so I got a Chromebook for mobile work (Mediatek/ARM-based for all day battery life) and an i3 Chromebox for my home office that I hooked up to my TV on a desk. I still keep a Linux laptop around, but ChromeOS feels like one of the most fast and polished implementations of desktop Linux, especially for my business use since I work in healthcare and need top security.
Hi Randy, Great question. Pete loves chrome books and will have some good answers on this. Put your question into ask.itgenius.com/ he will answer it in his next Q&A series
I have a Jabra Evolve 75 headset which I've been using with my Laptop via bluetooth connection. Can I connect this headset via bluetooth to my ASUS Chrome box machine?
I was very pleased to receive this in my feed. I was using more and more Google cloud products on my Windows PC and coming away from Microsoft and Windows. To draw a parallel, I feel as if I am transitioning, my brain and body were mismatched computing-wise and in moving towards ChromeOS with two old Asus Chromebox 2s I feel much happier and comfortable. Am at the stage where I am exploring what I can/cannot do with Chrome. It is the simplicity, small size, fast boot up, low noise which appeal to me. As I'm retired I have no need of the overpowering Ms Office behemoth, the simple docs and sheets apps are enough to administer my life these days. I am an amateur artist and use a 32" monitor with one Asus CN62 in my studio corner to display reference material and do research and just one spreadsheet to keep track of paints, colour palettes, supplies, what I have and need and where to get it. The other Asus will be a media device running a VPN and connected to TV. I have retired abroad and local TV is not much use to me but I can receive most UK TV I want using VPN along with RUclips. Have not yet connected DVD drive yet but hope it will work. Have been able to print using home ethernet network printer/scanner but don't print much. Haven't found way to use scanner with Chrome yet. Shall not dump Windows completely as I use it for digital painting and scanning and to rip DVD/CD. Don't think Chrome can do these things. Planning to use Google Drive and Blogger to build myself a web based personal media server. So much to do. PS both my CN62s are i7, one was used and stuck in Enterprise Enrolment and a local computer repairer reflashed the ROM to get it back to "normal", the other was new old stock, still boxed. Both have upgraded SSDs and memory, the upgrades may not have been necessary but I already had the parts so why not.
August 14, 2022 - Thanks to this video's host. From his presentation, it is obvious that he is accustomed to being accurate, concise, and pleasant. I use Chromebooks and Windows 10 Pro desktop PCs. I find that Microsoft is becoming extremely authoritarian and intrusive with their Windows operating systems. Also, I am not happy that Google is treating Chromebooks like cellphones and has allotted "end of life" dates for supporting them. There are of course options for converting "sun settled" older Chromebooks, but I don't like those options. At this point, I think that a Chromebox could be in my future, once my present Chromebook is no longer supported by Google or Samsung. Thank you again to itGenius for a very informative and helpful video. Cheers from Connecticut, U.S.A. 👍👍😊
Great video. I've dumped Microsoft a year after they dumped my Windows XP. I'm using an Asus Chromebox 4 Intel Core i7 10th gen, 16 Gb RAM, 256 Gb drive. Fantastic machine! Will never, ever, go back to Windows!
The large downfall with Chrome is google has no issue getting rid of an application taking away a tool that you may depend on. Only to bring it back a year or so later under a different name.
chrome os is just linux but bad it has no apps and buying a used windows laptop/pc and installing linux is actually worth your money instead of being a scam

ChromeOs Flex is really major break through for reviving old notebooks but problem is it is still in Developing phase. lets hope for best

Too expensive when compared to a Chromebook. It would be interesting to see how well Flex would work on an older desktop.
Works great! :)

What is your recommended external display option that works well with the Google pixelbook go for business use?
Anything compatible with DisplayPort or HDMI
