I decided not to waste money on a loctician. I started my own locs and this journey will be personal for me 🙏🏾. I agreee with the shower cap things too especially. I don’t cover my hair in the shower bc I love the steam but I also love the frizzy look and the water and steam does that for me ☺️
My one year mark will be tomorrow! I completely agree with you, I allowed my hair to be mine and nobody else’s I didn’t try to compare my locs with nobody else’s because I knew my hair will only look like mine and nobody’s else’s. Less is definitely more with locs!!!
You said if you need someone to hype you up “I’m your girl” and i hit subscribe right after. I’m her. I need the hype lol . I’m mixed, my hair is very soft.. and kind of fine, i will start my loc journey on Sunday.. i need help lol
I totally agree with everything you said I am 9 months in I started when my hair was a mini afro and I don't care I love my hair I love my locs and my hair is short but I embrace it because they are growing and soon I will have to do a lil more maintenance then so just embrace all the stages We are gorgeous Queens our hair is versatile and unique and I love it ❤👑
Yaaaaassss queen!!! I’m here for it ALL 👸🏾👑😍💖🥳 The best thing we can do on this journey is embrace every stage. Our hair is a beautiful gift from God and I’m learning to love it more and more every day. Thanks for being here and shining some light ✨sending you lots of loveeee
5 months loced. I use rose water with glycerin and castor oil. Less is more for real and a plastic bag from the grocery store works better than a shower cap. Great video as always!!
I'm 2 and 1/2 months locd and i recently took a shower without a shower cap for the first time and i loved the results! My hair stays moisturized so much longer after i let it steam than it did when i just started by spraying my water on it
I still use a shower cap sometimes, mainly if I’m showering at night as I don’t want to lay down on wet or damp hair. I also use one the first 2 weeks or so after my retwist.
I agree with you. The shower differently hydrates my hair and I choose to wash my hair if I feel like it. The loc journey is a beautiful one. I love the freedom it brings
Im getting my locs started soon🤞🏿after countless attempts on my own and a few locticians canceling on me. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to be able to wet my hair whenever cause water is so sacred and healing to me. I like wigs/braids but I told myself after starting, no protective styles for 3mo no matter how frustrated I may get with my hair just so I can learn/appreciate it. I’ve also cut down on expectations of how I’d like my hair to look after watching so many videos because you never truly know until you’re already in the process and even then, it can change so much. Can’t wait to declutter all the useless products and tools I already don’t use since I’ve stopped doing my natural hair. Overall, I’m ready to start anew and actually grow with my hair instead of despising it for being so challenging when loose lol
Hey love! You have such a beautiful spirit. I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to hear how your locs turn out. I love that water is sacred and healing for you. I think you’ll be incredibly happy on this journey and learn so much about yourself. And that’s a great thing because it seems like you’re willing to grow every step of the way. Keep me updated! Sending you lots of love and wishing you the best.
Right on sis- Starting mine again in June. as well! I'm starting mine after choosing to stop smoking and cut out putting myself in toxic environments. Growing locs is my internal self commitment which I'm ready to finally experience.
Thanks for sharing your loc journey with us. Considering getting starter locs for the new yr & stumbled across your channel. Enjoyed reading the comments too. Will keep you posted with my progress. I hope to find more recent videos. Blessings ❤
I use a shower cap! I’m 9 months in with sister locs and in the beginning my hair was slipping bad with the steam and moisture. I also workout and that wasn’t helping my slippage issues either. I’ve been using protective styles to keep my hair from unraveling and it’s worked for me. My hair has finally budded and firmed! The loc journey is definitely an individual experience and you really can’t compare one journey to another....that, I learned!
Yes I am new to the journey, I am going on 5 months in now. I have braided locs and some are starting to loc, my hair is soft. I a m mostly silver and I am enjoying them. Thank your very encouraging and I enjoy you. And I don't use a shower cap. I use a little oil and water and se oil. That's it
Your such an amazing person your hair have grown so much . I had my locs for three weeks and then I take them out just as they were starting to loc but I am gonna start again . Love watching your channel.
Awww!!! Thanks so much for being part of this community 😍😘 What made you take out your first set of locs? I’m excited that you’re going to start them again! Sending you love. Keep me posted!
Hi Alexis great video as always. Locs are the best when is comes to low maintenance. All you really need to do is make sure that your hair is clean and separated. I do now use a shower cap when taking a shower at night as I don't want to go to bed with wet locs. I am now almost 17 months locked. Loved the video keep enjoying your journey as always until next time.
Hi Miss Jane! Thank you so much for being here. Your comments always make my day so much brighter. I agree with you as far as keeping your hair clean and separated. It’s really that simple! I feel so blessed to be on this journey and to be surrounded by people like you. Sending you lots of love today and always!!!
I'm almost 4 weeks in getting my first retwist this weekend and your videos have been super helpful. Your locs are lovely your videos are so well put together keep the content coming.
Hi Alexis! I love your tips. Your tips and confidence are awesome. I'm so excited for you approaching a year in your loc journey. I started watching videos and experimenting with my locs at the one year mark. I loved updos and flower accessories. Biotin, water and less stress has helped me with length retention. I can't wait to see what style you'll present to us in the coming videos. You're on your way to a beautiful head of thick mature locs.
Hi, Ms. Nita!!! Thanks for always sending some love my way. I can’t wait to experiment with updos and loc jewelry. Thanks for your recommendations for length retention. I’ll definitely keep that in mind! Your wisdom makes this community so much better. Sending you lots of love and tons of hugs!!! 😍😍😍
I have been enjoying your videos lately and they have been so helpful! I started my loc journey 1 month ago and there are days when I want to take them out but as I continue to watch your videos I know there is hope with my hair and I just have to trust the process. Thanks for the videos!!
Awww!!! Hey beautiful thanks so much for tuning in. I’m so glad you find these videos helpful. Congratulations on your new journey and I’m always here if you need some support 🥳
Automatically subscribed once I seen we have the same texture!! 😍I combed out my first set of locs at 8 months because I felt they were too thick. I regret it to this day because I feel like they would've slimmed up a little had I had patience. I'll be starting my 2nd set in December & I can't wait 😊
Heyyy beautiful!!! 😍💖 thanks so much for the amazing energy and the subscription. I’m glad to hear that you will be restarting your hair in a few months and can’t wait to hear how this set turns out. Sending you lots of love! 🥳
A few days into my loc journey.. I went against not getting a style with my starters on medium length hair.. I really like it but still was a lesson to go with my first mind. Although I started with coils as a new subscriber I’ve enjoyed your content with us newbies ☺️
Awww, hey lovely!!! Thanks so much for being here and for subscribing 😍 it really means a lot. I’m so excited to hear that you are a few days into your loc journey! You are in for such an exciting ride 🥳💖 we’re all here to celebrate with you and send you lots of love. It’s amazing what our hair can do!
This is a great video for starters, locs are the most carefree hairstyle EVER!!! I am also 11 months loc'd I will be one year on June 5th so I am right behind you 🙌🏾 you have to bring your brother and your mom on more often I love when they are on...btw your locs are flourishing so well and yes the year came so fast
Can’t wait to celebrate one year loc’d with you!!! I agree with you when you say locs are the most carefree hairstyle because I’ve never had a style so low maintenance and I absolutely love it. I’m going to see if my mom and brother will join for some more videos because they love being on the channel! Thanks for the love as always!!! 😍😘
I'm 4 weeks into my loc journey, started with braids. I don't use a shower cap but I do pull my braidlocs up into a ponytail so I don't get soap on them.
Yassss!!! Preserve that style honey!!! Congratulations on your first two months and thank you so much for being part of this community. So happy you’re here!
Oh my goodness! Congratulations on six months. I’m so happy for you!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Did you start with two strand twists? Thanks so much for all of the love and encouragement. It really means more than you know! 👑💖✨
I completely agree with these. They are definitely not needs anymore - wants, definitely, if one chooses. But not something a person considering locs would need to have on their to do or just in case lists, imho I personally never even considered a protective style over my starters, just seems completely contrary to the hair-doing I was trying to get away from in the first place lol. Plus the part about them possibly delaying or altering the loc’ing process - no thanks. I definitely don’t use a shower cap lol, except maybe to do a hot oil treatment every now and then. Same with the heat, although I’ve sat under my hood dryer a couple times to help dry my retwist cuz my hair takes daysssss to dry I’ll be 16mo loc’d in two weeks ❤️🎉
Hey beautiful! Thanks so much for being here. I love your commentary on the video and this topic in general. I agree with you 100%... putting styles over my locs wasn’t compatible with my vision of freedom lol. But everyone is different and everyone has a journey of their own! 😍 i’m so glad you decided to tune in and leave some love! Thanks for being here. See you again real soon!!!
Love these tips! I’m coming up to 1mo in my loc journey and Im loving it! I usually rinse my hair while in the shower like every other day moisturize right after, then air dry. Then it’s a headband and go for me lol 😂. My scalp is really less itchy that way.
This popped up in my recommendations and I gotta confess that your beauty instantly brought me here lol! Thank you for this vid as I'm getting ready to get my locs again via two strand twists this time
Awww!!! Lol. Thank you so much for being here and welcome to the community. Glad to hear that this is going to be your second go around. Can’t wait to hear how this set turns out! Keep us all posted 💖
I definitely agree with not using hair bands, my starter locs were long enough to tie up but I was always cautious of how tight I tied my hair up or how long I left the hair band in because I was worried it would leave dents in my locs! I'm 6 months now and when I tie my hair up it doesn't leave dents or impressions in my hair like it used to, so I definitely think just letting them be most of the time did my hair good!
Hey love! Thanks for tuning in and sharing your story. I know it’s going to be incredibly helpful to those reading the comments. Congratulations on six months loc’d! Glad to hear you’re learning about your hair every step of the way. See you again soon 💗
Hey Alexis I’ve seen your older videos. Your almost 1 year journey. It’s 2024 now, have you done an updated video yet? I just started my locs 10 months ago. My hair is not 4c but I like your videos. Beautiful locs, I’ve seen your mom’s as well!!!
I love your vibe and spirit. I’ve been on my loc journey since January this year and I’m so excited. I just took my protective style down but I was on vacay. I’m just glad you’re talking about this! You have a new subscriber plus we got the same first name. Heyyyy twin lol
Ayeeeee!!!! Hey twin!!!! 😍😍😍 thanks so much for being here and sending some love my way. Congratulations on your new loc journey! You’re in for a fun ride! 🥳🥳🥳 Did you start with two strand twists? Thanks so much for subscribing!
Awww!!! Thank you so much for being here. I am grateful and thankful for you tuning in. You’re in for a very exciting journey! Keep me updated on everything.
I am so excited for your 1year locaversay! Can't wait for the next video and yes locs are low maintenance and I'm going to try not to become a product junkie this go around with my second loc journey!😊
Thanks for sharing in my excitement, love!!!!! 😍🥳 what’s your biggest advice to our community on your second go around? What’d you decide to do differently this time? So happy you’re here
@@AlexisHarris my first set I started myself and my second set I went to a professional my first set was two strand twist and this set is with comb coils my advice is leave it alone use minimum products don't let a lot of different people in your hair because energy is real. I loved my first set and wish I didn't comb them out and I am embracing my second set but I wish I would have grew my hair out more this set and did two strand twist again.
Love your videos (and your mom!) I agree with all these tips. I’m exactly 2 months behind you on my loc journey, and enjoy watching your progress. Hope your exams went well and that you are looking forward to a wonderful summer!
Hey beautiful! Thanks for tuning in every week. Glad to hear we’re around the same time on this journey. How are you enjoying your progress so far? My exams went well! I passed!!!! Working on my dissertation research now before I graduate. Thanks for checking in. Sending you hugs and lots of love 💕🥳💖👑✨
You are such a pure delight to watch. You exude such a kind, light and positive aura, I instantly subscribed. Just the type of person I want on my feed 😊. I started my locks on Tuesday with a loctician, I got coils, but the shrinkageeee!!!!! 😩😩 I’m thinking of washing it out (used gel and it’s stiff), and redoing it nut in a two strand not a coil method. Any advice?
Hey beautiful! Thanks so much for all the love and for sending some sunshine my way today. Congratulations on your new journey!! The shrinkage struggle is SO REAL!!!!!! 😭🤣 trust me ma’am, I understand completely. My biggest advice if you don’t like your coils is to do the two strand twist. I say that because you want to feel as comfortable as possible. Just remember, shrinkage happens with twists as well 💖💖💖
Your locs are absolutely Beautiful, and they fits your face very beautifully, l took my locs down after being two months in simply because l became very discouraged when the locition was so late for my retwist appointment, and to have to go through beauty shop dramas is not for me which is why l went natural, but looking at yours making me regret that decision, by the way l saw your Mom's locs and they are Gorgeous, tell Mom her Locs are the BOMB!!
Awww thank you so much! I’m so happy you’re here and part of this community. Would you ever consider restarting your loc journey? Please do! I think it’ll be well worth it once you find the right loctician!!!! Keep me posted. Also, gonna send ma all your loveeee!!!! ❤️
I had to use a shower cap in the beginning because my hair would come down in the back. However, I found a wig cap so I use that when I take a shower now. My hair will still get the benefit of the steam and my locs won’t get wet.
Yay!!!! I’m so happy for you! Sounds like tomorrow is your big day 😍🥳 let me know how it goes... i’ve got tons of videos that I hope you find useful! We are all here for you in this community every step of the way.
Thank you for being here Ms. Sharon! I’m glad to hear you keep things as simple as I do. And awww, that’s so nice of you! I’ll definitely give your message to Ma! Sending you lots of love today and always.
Hello Beautiful! Another one for the books great content. Over the course of this journey I too have learned less is more. I've done little or nothing to my locs and almost eight months in. No protective style, no wigs, no products (only oil and water). No shower cap, however I love my hats tho. Your locs look amazing and are growing nicely! Until next time be well, sending peace and love! 😍😍🙏
Hey gorgeous! I can’t believe you’re already eight months in. I’m so happy for you! I’ve been so blessed on this loc journey because of people like you in this community. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and insights! Sending you the biggest hug in the world 💖😍👸🏾🥳💕
@@AlexisHarris Awe, you’re so sweet, I think it’s the other way around it’s people like you that is spreading that amazing energy in the universe of love! So it must return to you! I thank you 🙏🏽 for being you, and congratulations 🍾🎉🎈 on your 1 year milestone. Sending hugs right back atcha. ❤️😍🤗
Hey girl 😊. Great tips for every new loc'd brother or sister. I'm 6 days short of being 10 months loc'd and one thing I really fell for was using heat, especially since I have locs on the ticker side (less than 50), but since I deal with scalp eczema as well, I stopped using heat a few months ago. Your hair really has grown a lot and matured beautifully 🌼
Hey loveee!!! So glad you’re here. Thanks for tuning in and always leaving the best energy. I love to hear that you’re learning so much about yourself and adjusting your loc maintenance routine accordingly. As you know, I have eczema too! So it feels great to know I’m not out here alone. Sending you lots of love!!!! 😍😍😍
Love, Love, Love watching your videos, you're so pleasant and your voice is so soothing. Appreciate the tips as usual. 4 weeks in today! I love letting the mist hydrate my hair in the shower buuuut 👀 I snuck and wet my WHOLE head last night 🤷🏾♀️, it felt so good 🤣
Heeeeyyyy, Adrian!!! 😍😍😍 thanks for being here love. I’m so happy you found this video useful and enjoy tuning in! I love seeing your comments every week. Congratulations on your first month locd!!! 🥳🥳🥳 That’s such a huge milestone. And as far as letting your whole head get wet goes, ain’t no shame bout it at all!!! LOL!!! It feels sooo good 😂😍👑👸🏾✨
Love it! The few times I do use a hair tie I take it down as soon as I get home as well and it’s only temporary for special occasions LOL at least until my locs get longer. Then I’m showing out with a topknot and messy bun 24/7 😂🤣
Awww!!! Welcome to the community. I’m so happy you’re here and I hope you stay a while! Thanks for tuning in and leaving some love. Sending you the biggest hug! 💖
I’m 5 weeks in this new journey started them on my own with finger coils. My hair was bra strap length when I started. Now they’ve shrunk up to my collarbone. I hope I’m not doing anything wrong. 😞
You’re doing good. You hair is shrinking into your locs. It’s all hanging up so it will be shorter and then eventually it will drop and you’ll start seeing your length. Be patient. Enjoy the journey!
Hey beautiful!!! I agree with Ms. Pam 100%. Loc shrinkage is totally okay in the early stages. It’s all part of the process. Hang in there because the journey is soooooo worth it!!!!! 😍😍😍 I’m here if you need me. We’re all here if you need us! You’ve got this! 😘
When I started my journey my hair was mid-back length. I started with two-strand twist. I’m now 4 months in and my hair shrunk to the nape of my neck, but I’m budding and sprouting.
Definitely helpful! Haha gosh I was going to use protective styles( wigs) for at least the first 3 months, just so I can actually make it past a month!!!! or whenever I felt I needed to travel somewhere. But for the most part I'm going to let them feel the breeze lol. I'm started over this week, excited!
Hey beautiful! So happy you found this video helpful. To be honest with you, one of my favorite things in the world is to let the wind blow through my locs and kiss my scalp lol. I didn’t realize how refreshing fresh air is on the hair until this journey! Embrace it all!!! 😍😍
@@AlexisHarris yeah, we're heading into summer time to so its a good time to let them breathe in the beginning journey. Can't wait for your 1 year party :)), or whatever you're doing to celebrate !
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IN MY EXCITEMENT!!!!! I feel your energy from miles away and I love everything about it!!!! Sending you hugs and lots of love 💖🎉
For a year and a half i've been having 2 strands - wanting to leave them in to loc, but after 2-3 weeks at most i'd always take them out .. I was so focused on wanting mature dreads that i couldn't see that the 2 strands were part of the process to get there ( looking back it was like i expected them to change overnight and was disheartened when i woke up and still had frizzy twists ) .. but about 7 weeks ago something in my head just clicked and i realised that at this stage ( starter ) they're just as important as the mature locs i want .. Since then i've slowed down to appreciate the changes that happen week by week - and a lot has happened in 7 weeks, 1 retwist and plenty of budding later i now value my young locs as much as i imagined i'd value them fully matured and they've progressed more than i ever could have wished for. I honestly think the change in mentality has attributed to the changes in my hair, and that my mindstate was what i needed to work on more than locing methods, oils, hairwash routines etc .. What i'm trying to say is that if you have 2 strands now - realise that they are your locs, you already have them ( they just young right now ) and slow down to appreciate them for what they are, take time to notice the subtle changes that will happen over the next few weeks/months, it feels like it's happening slow at first but after a month or so ( for me anyways ) it just snowballs and all the little changes now look like big ones, and you'll feel good that you're firmly on the path to the mature locs you want .. bit of a long reply but this is what i would have told myself 18 months ago, or at least this is what i needed to hear. Hope all goes blessed for you anyways 🔒
Great question! Jaye Lee answered it beautifully!!! So happy to have such wisdom in this community. Congratulations on your new journey. It has officially begun! Welcome to the family 😍🎉💕🥳💖🎊
Love these tips! Thank you for sharing. I started my loc journey two weeks ago with two strand twists but the root of the twists aren't neat as I did them myself, would that affect the process of my locs?
Great question! That should not affect the locking process too much. But if you are unhappy, I would recommend restarting. The sooner you restart, the better! That way, you get the exact result you’re hoping for. And you can be confident in your journey after that!!! Sending you lots of love 💖😊💗🥳💕
Not sure if you remember me or not, but now I am 9 months into my journey so a few months behind you lol. Doing well, I use ayurvedic everything for my hair and I firmly believe in less is more as well. I LOOOOOVE the shower running water along my locs, it's been such a game changer lol. I am also about 2 weeks into a retwist and only use a shower cap to preserve a retwist but by week 3 it comes off lololol.
Lol!!! Hey friend!!! It’s so great hearing from you and I’m so happy that your loc journey is coming along beautifully. I feel you on the shower cap 100% 🤣😂 ain’t nothing like it!!!!! Thanks for sending good vibes my way! Glad you’re well these days. Huuuuggggsss 🥳🥳
Great question! Rosewater is basically water that you put in a spray bottle after rose petals have been boiled/soaked in it. It can be purchased in stores like Walmart or online through places like Amazon. It can also be made at home! Wishing you the happiest loc journey
Thanks Alexis for your wise counsel. I have a question. Why do the locs at the back of the head are so much fatter than the front? Well, thats my experience. The ones in the back are twice the size of the ones in front. Inquiry minds want to know! Thank you! Blessings to you and family!🙏🏽
I’d say it’s probably because you lay on them more, my locs in the back and on the left side of my head are fatter because that’s what I lay on the most
Hey Jemma! Thanks so much for being here and tuning in. I know from personal experience my locs are thicker in the back because my parts are thicker in the back. It all comes down to parting size. My loctician made my locs fuller in the back/fatter in the back so that they could appear more full. The ones in the front and around my edges are smaller to help frame my face better LOL I hope that makes sense!
My wife started my locs just a little over 2 months ago, I crocheted my ends on my own so they don’t completely unravel. Is it okay for the root to somewhat unravel if my ends are crocheted?
Take it from someone who has spent over $1200 dollars in less than two years on every oil, lotion, gimmick & trend on my Starter/Locs only to discover nothing works better for my Locs than simply keeping them moisturized and hydrated with water/Rosewater, a water based light oil spray and steam as the main ingredient for my Locs to thrive and my scalp to find relief from major itching and irritation. Find what works for you.
You’re actually so beautiful I had to rewind because I wasnt paying attention like you’re NEOSOUL BEAUTIFUL reminds me of my childhood watching India, Lauryn, Soul II Soul Floetry 😭🤌🏼 gorgeous Queen! You have such a bright energy 🤍
My loctician told me I should wear a shower cap because letting my hair steam all the time can cause breakage over time. I didn't understand that but I try to just mist my hair after I shower
Hey lovely!!! Oh wow, I’ve never heard that. Thank you so much for sharing! I’ll keep that in mind moving forward and be extra careful to hydrate my locs with oil. Still gonna steam though lol
Hi! I started my locks about two weeks ago. I initially got a build up due to the beeswax my loctitian used when locking my hair. I’m taking care of that now. I’m using the interlocking method. I’ve been hearing about retwists. Could you explain this in a simpler term because I interlocked and didn’t start with a two strand twist so I don’t know if that applies to me. And also my hair is getting frizzy. And I was advised not to wet my hair for the first two or three months. I would appreciate any advice you have. I’m sorry for making this long. I also have lots of under growths now so what do I do about that? Thanks
Hey Faith! Congratulations on your new loc journey. I’m sorry to hear about the build up from the beeswax but it doesn’t have to ruin your experience. As far as retwists go, it’s pretty much palm rolling starter locs. So what you would do is put a loc in between your palms and roll your hands together while twisting the loc in a clockwise motion. This tightens the new growth. I have a video on how to re-twist starter locs and you can see how it’s done there! I hope you find it helpful. Also, frizz is very exciting! To me it was a sign that something good was happening! I would get a second opinion about not putting water on your hair because I think it can be dangerous to avoid water for so long. I had a full wash after four weeks of being loc’d. I have tons of videos on all of this. I hope this helps!
I'm having a rough day! I am 4.5 months in I'm so frustrated. My hair is super frizzy (I interlock) I got my locs started 2strand twist by a professional but....I am now maintaining my locs. Majority of my twist came out and at this point I'm over twisting my locs back down.lol I thought locs was a low maintenance hairstyle!? Well, I've realized that not the case! I love my hair and I don't want to comb them out but idk how to ease the frizz🥴🥴😫😫 I'm just having a rough day.
Hey my love! I hate to hear that you’re having a rough day but know we are all here for you in this community. Thanks for sharing your story with us and congratulations on making it 4 1/2 months. You’re such a brave soul for maintaining your locs yourself! I haven’t become that brave yet. Have you considered going back to a professional and allowing that person to do your loc maintenance until your locs mature? I know frizz can be frustrating but to me it’s a sign that your hair is doing what it’s supposed to do! So be patient and trust the process and know I’ve got your back! Sending you the biggest hug today!!!!!
@@AlexisHarris thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I'm good on the professional who started my locs( I don't usually pay people to do my hair especially when I can do it myself former cosmetologist) I always intended on doing my own hair so I'm cool with that. This process was more than I bargained for. But, I am trusting the process! Today I feel great I made me some rose water for my hair etc. I think I'm going to document on RUclips my journey here soon but until then I am inspired by all of the videos I have came across especially yours!
Protective styles for starter locs-- I’m glad you touched on this. I personally think a lot of sisters, black women, that are wearing wigs and fake hair that we wore and styled loved it and it looked beautiful because we hated our own hair or could have been just too lazy to keep up our natural hair. If I’m wrong ok so I will speak for myself. I wore protective styles because I hated my natural hair. Let’s be real when you love your own hair you won’t cover it up with wigs and weaves and crochets. A lot will not admit this truth. My hair was thin and short and just wouldn’t keep curls so I wore wigs and crochet styles for many many years. When I started my spiritual journey of what God says about womens hair and my own journey of me to love all of me including my hair that’s when I decided I’m going to stop speeding thousands of dollars on fake hair and wigs. I hated my little twists when I started my journey but for spiritual reasons I keep my hair covered so that saved me in the public. I too am almost a year in my loc journey. I’m ten months in and will be a year June 6th 2022. My hair has grown a lot and is healthy now and my locs look like yours finally. It has been a journey but now it’s smooth sailing. I would love for you to do a video explaining or giving tips how to keep the roots twisted after getting a retwist. How to make your retwist last? I know a lot of people want this video. I have stopped retwisting every week because I don’t want my locs to thin out so now I’m doing every three weeks instead of two. A lot of people love the well kept look so they retwist a lot. I still keep my bonnet on in the shower because for me moisture makes my hair loosen. Even spraying it with rose water does and applying oils. I just believe for me I must massage my scalp when I’m putting in my oils and moisturizing my hair. Do you?? Massaging my scalp helps it from that itching I get. I have a healthy scalp it just needs massaging and that does loosen my retwist. I wear protective styles at home on my locs, my natural hair when it’s not covered to help preserve my retwist. I love you you’re just so real and pretty. Your smile is so captivating. You’re so full of life. I still can’t believe you’re a day over 18 you look so young. A college professor, WHO lol. You look like the student. Anywho what video is your mom in that you mentioned I would love to see it. Attach a link for me. I can’t wait for your video on preserving your retwist. How to make it last between retwists and how long should you go before a retwist?? Thank you and love you sis 🌹rose for you and one for moms 🌹
Agree. I love my hair but the time it took to do it was time consuming, especially being perm free for over 29 years, so I just did the wigs. Now that I'm 11 months in, I love my hair. My loctician says I can wear a wig until the process is complete but I have gotten to the stage I DON'T even like the wigs anymore. I embrace my hair and it's great! 😊
I decided not to waste money on a loctician. I started my own locs and this journey will be personal for me 🙏🏾. I agreee with the shower cap things too especially. I don’t cover my hair in the shower bc I love the steam but I also love the frizzy look and the water and steam does that for me ☺️
Love that!!! And I agree!!! The shower steam is EVERYTHING for me 😍😍😍
My one year mark will be tomorrow! I completely agree with you, I allowed my hair to be mine and nobody else’s I didn’t try to compare my locs with nobody else’s because I knew my hair will only look like mine and nobody’s else’s. Less is definitely more with locs!!!
Beautiful! Happy one year anniversary to you 💖 I’m so happy that you’ve had a great journey so far. Sending you lots of love today and always 🥳🥳🥳
My hair stays moisturized so much longer after i let it steam than it did when i just started by spraying my water on it
Omg yesss!!! I agree 100% 😍🙏🏾 soooo glad you had great results!!!
I love getting my hair wet. I was glad to ditch the shower cap 😂😂😂
Me too. Like I spray my hair every other day if not everyday with just water and my hair loves it
Yaaaasssss sis!!!! Me too!!!! 😂🤣😂
I agree, Skholiwe!!!! My hair absolutely loves it 💕
Yes make that video
Right?! My hair seemed to loc quicker when I started spraying more water on it. It also doesn’t itch nearly as much now 😩😍
I still use a shower cap sometimes, mainly if I’m showering at night as I don’t want to lay down on wet or damp hair. I also use one the first 2 weeks or so after my retwist.
That makes so much sense! I feel you 100% 😍😍😍 thanks so much for weighing in!!!!
I’m starting mines with two strand twist n I’m doing my own dreads pray for me lol I’m new to ur chancel but I love ur videos
Hey Jay! You’re one brave soul lol but I’ve got all the confidence in you!!! You got this 😊💕👏🏾🎊💖💪🏾 keep me posted!!! Welcome to the fam
I agree with you. The shower differently hydrates my hair and I choose to wash my hair if I feel like it. The loc journey is a beautiful one. I love the freedom it brings
You’re absolutely right! The freedom is so special. I’ve never felt anything like this in my life and I couldn’t be happier!!!
I agree, you really don’t need a lot of products. Most days I prefer not to add oil because over time my scalp starts itching
Exactly!!! Great insights. Thanks for tuning in!!!
Beautiful advice!!! Thanks so much for being here and sharing your wisdom with the community.
Awww, thanks so much for watching! Congratulations on your first month locd. Let me know how your re-twist goes! Super excited for you 🥳🥳🥳✨✨✨
You & your dreads are beautiful!!
Thank you so much 😍
Omggg I love you already , this feels like home I love your energy
Awww thanks so much for sending all this love my way!!! I’m so happy you’re part of this community!!! Welcome welcome 😍😍😍
Your Locs Are Beautiful💞💞💞💕💕 I Just Learned The Other Day That Mine Are Starting To Loc & They’re Growing Great I Love Them♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰
Automatically subscribed once I seen we have the same texture!!
@@AlexisHarris 💞🙋🏾♀️ thank you!!
Nice! Love the strategy ❤️
im using a shower cap currently bc i have a style im trying to preserve... 2 months into my loc journey & your videos have been tons of inspiration!
Yassss!!! Preserve that style honey!!! Congratulations on your first two months and thank you so much for being part of this community. So happy you’re here!
Love your videos!! I reached 6 months on Sunday and I’m so excited!! Loving my journey! Your locs are beautiful! Keep being an inspiration!
Oh my goodness! Congratulations on six months. I’m so happy for you!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Did you start with two strand twists? Thanks so much for all of the love and encouragement. It really means more than you know! 👑💖✨
@@AlexisHarris you are welcome and thank you! Yes I started with two strand twists.
I completely agree with these. They are definitely not needs anymore - wants, definitely, if one chooses. But not something a person considering locs would need to have on their to do or just in case lists, imho
I personally never even considered a protective style over my starters, just seems completely contrary to the hair-doing I was trying to get away from in the first place lol. Plus the part about them possibly delaying or altering the loc’ing process - no thanks.
I definitely don’t use a shower cap lol, except maybe to do a hot oil treatment every now and then. Same with the heat, although I’ve sat under my hood dryer a couple times to help dry my retwist cuz my hair takes daysssss to dry
I’ll be 16mo loc’d in two weeks ❤️🎉
Love it!!! Thanks for sharing your tips beautiful 😍😍😍 helps a ton!!!!!!!

RIGHT!!! I gotta try Rose Water....I've been using tap water and oils...AANNNND My hair? Still DRY!!!!
Keep shining your beautiful light! 💖
Hey beautiful! That is BRILLIANT!!!! 😍👏🏾 thanks so much for sharing that tip with me and the community.

Ok help me out I have my hair in two strand twists and I want to start locs what’s my next move?
@@jayelee7176 thank you so much!! Well I guess my journey has begun 😊

I've used Bantu knots to curl my locs before.

What is rosewater
I am new to this journey

Thanks Alexis for your wise counsel. I have a question. Why do the locs at the back of the head are so much fatter than the front? Well, thats my experience. The ones in the back are twice the size of the ones in front. Inquiry minds want to know! Thank you!
Blessings to you and family!🙏🏽
I’d say it’s probably because you lay on them more, my locs in the back and on the left side of my head are fatter because that’s what I lay on the most
@@ignorantenlightenment Thank you! Makes sense 🤔
@@AlexisHarris Got it! Thank you! The Lord is surely using these locs to teach me patience! 🤣

My wife started my locs just a little over 2 months ago, I crocheted my ends on my own so they don’t completely unravel. Is it okay for the root to somewhat unravel if my ends are crocheted?
Great question! And yes, that is completely normal
Love it hunni 🥰 I'm 6 months in😊
Huge milestone beautiful! Happy 6 months 🥳🥳🥳 sending you hugs!!!!
I did not always use a shower cap but I do now
Oh okay! Nice. I’m always really strategic about using a shower cap. It’s only when I want to be extra careful LOL
Do you tie your hair up at night?
Hello! Thanks for sharing this information. I’m 7 months loced...new subbie❤️
Can you tell me what shampoo you use? Cuz I’ve seen people use stuff like shea moisture?
Sweety please keep me posted on you
How many locs do you have. Ur hair is beautiful
Awww thanks so much!!!! I have 81 locs 💗
So Beautiful 😍
Awww thank you!!! 😍😍😍
I was the 450th like. Hehehehe yeah boi.
Ayyyeeee!!!! Let’s gooooo lol thanks so much for leaving some love 💗
