1:15 That pixie laughing in the background is a sample from a Billy Murray song from 1915 called "I've Been Floating Down the Old Green River". Search up "Dandadan OP Pikmin sample origin", someone found it this week. Quite a random sample, but DJ Matsunaga is a world championship winning DJ so his sample base is probably crazy, so no surprise that he used it in producing, lol.
The show is about aliens and ghosts to put it super simple. Theres a whole bunch of little easter eggs and refererences in the lyrics hes saying. Like on the first switch up when hes saying haireta 5 times in a row, its a reference to a japanese evil spirit. Haireta means Im Inside and that spirit says that over and over once it takes someone over.
Earlier this year he reacted to Bling Bang Bang Born and the Solo Leveling OP too, also he has reacted to the CSM and JJK OPs and a couple of EDs from the former too. Even then ngl seeing him react to Otonoke was a really great surprise lol
4:28 That is, in fact, exactly why he does it... he rips up his shoes every time he transforms through a combination of his feet getting bigger, and his moving as superhuman speeds
Also he got mindful later on because someone else bought his shoes for him. He just doesn't remove it, he also makes sure it's tidy before running off.
You’re guess on what the anime is about is actually one of the closest guesses I’ve seen from a reactor. Most of them don’t notice the transformation or the aliens (not that I blame them. It goes by so fast). Huge props for noticing the details!
1:18 The high voice on the background is actually from a song recorded in 1915 by Billy Murray, titled "I've been floating down the old green river". I watched it form the channel "Schnoz"
The anime is all 3 of my favorite things. It's hilarious, adorable, and completely unhinged. But this song makes me soooooo happy. It's my ring tone now. I listen to it a few times a day, and it still brings me so much joy
No offence, but what part of the anime was confusing? It's a pretty straight forward story with cliche tropes but written well. If you want really confusing animes, watch Uzumaki, with only four episodes that went nowhere unfortunately and Heavenly Delusion where you won't get the entire story unless you read the manga or do research on it.
@@OutOfPocket-h9eUzumaki isn't really confusing either, it's pretty straight forward. The anime was a mess in terms of pacing and animation quality but the story was pretty straight forward and adapted the manga's story...ably (the manga is anthology style and each story has its own chapter and pacing; they don't bleed into each other like the stories in the anime do but there wasn't really anything confusing)
People were looking for the source of the "little gremlin in the back" sample, and someone did a few days ago. If you google "I found the origin of the samples used by Creepy Nuts for the Pikmin-esque sounds in the opening, and made this little video" and Reddit, you'll find the post with a cool video. It's song from 1915 by Billy Murray - "I've been floating down the old green river"
The anime is about the supernatural: aliens, spirits, demons, etc. The song name itself, "Otonoke", means "sound yokai" If you listen closely you can hear references to japanese urban legends like "haireta" meaning "I'm inside". You also hear references to the spirits from The Grudge (Kayako) and The Ring (Sadako). As well as Chainsaw Massacre and Shyamalan.
The pikmin voice is from an old music that got sped up. If you slow the audio you'll get "the schoolers went past" and "the ship the ship the ship got wrecked with." a part of the dandadan music video translates to "the captain of the crew" that points to the sped up pikmin voices
As an animated, a freat opening tells you pivotal information about the series, show, setting, and themes. The fact that you accurately guessed so much of the show's identity in a 90 second clip says volumes for both you and the opening itself.
4:16 - 4:28 "I'm living again, and again within his or your head, right in those eyelids and ears to the end, right where the gut-wrenching melody beats haunting deep, rymthicaly."
5:54 you’re actually not far off. Boy believes in aliens, girl believes in ghosts, but neither believes in the other. Boys gets junk stolen by ghost, girl gets abducted by aliens. They save each other. The rest of the story is the boy and girl trying to get the boys junk back :3
This was a great breakdown of the OP, man, thank you. You picked up on so much that I never would have thought about. Not a rapper, or into much rap, really, but you really opened my eyes to some new things.
The shadow aesthetic with the monsters and such are homage to old ultraman series which uses this aesthetic very prominently in their opening. And i agree they are dope

Great Opening Ceremony.
That big dude who did the stomp early in the music video is a sumo wrestler spirit called an Uma which is just a blanket term for weird creatures, not sure if that’s something your bothered about but I think its cool and it looked awesome in the show
