Admittedly, the beat just really fits the nature of Dandadan really well. I think it’s more happenstance that it was also used for Bling-Bang-Bang-Born than any sort of genuine laziness or repetitiveness Edit: Yeah, this is more of a “lightning struck twice” situation than anything else
I fully agree. I was going to come here to say this: The music fully embodies the craziness, chaos, and catharsis of Dan Da Dan. I think it was true happenstance as well. Mashle: Magic and Mayhem-the protagonist is so gangster that Jersey Rap was very fitting for the second season OP. This isn't Jersey Rap, as the bed squeak is a vital genre characteristic.
this, this exactly. it feels like they began with a similar start point for both tracks, and while both have plenty of their own merit to stand alone as good songs (not just good OPs), this one feels like a 100% completely perfect fit for dandadan. vs w/ mashle where i felt like it was more "cool song for cool popular anime". and creepy nuts has a unique style, i dont feel like that should be a knock against them either.
Also, I just think that a lot of people don't realize that that's just how this genre sounds (jersey). Songs are bound to sound similar if it's in the same genre. But a lot of people don't know what jersey is so they can only come to the conclusion of "it's very similar" instead of "oh it's jersey, it's supposed to sound a bit like this"
Lightning strikes twice isn't really fair when they used two very similar beats. If it was two very different sounds that were great it would be more impressive.
I don't mind the similarity because it has its own quirks and it develops later on into different parts of the song. To me, all the parts just feel nice together, so I can't say it's the same song as the last one.
Actualy that background sound in the 'dandadan dandadan dandadan' part is a clasic japanese horror theme sound. That flute 'fwuuu wooo' sound then followed by some kind of ghost slowly coming out of the darkness is very cliché japanese

The big difference comes through the tempo. Otonoke being 170 bpm pulls its intro into the realm of footwork (which is related to hip hop, ghetto house and drum and bass). Bling-Bang-Bang-Born (the Mashle op) is at 157 which pulls it towards house and breaks (to which I know I’m stretching it a bit). Plus, the song completely changes its feel midway through where as “Bling-“ more or less keeps the same theme throughout. Although they invoke similar thoughts, I think each tune is unique enough to stand by itself.

Dude he has had multiple hit songs even prior to the last one, this is just his style of music which for japanese is somewhat unique, no one over there sounds like him
You should do reactions to the music from "Bocchi the Rock!" It's a cute show about a guitarist with social anxiety joining a band and all the songs are very well written. They even outperformed K-pop bands on Japanese charts for months straight and became the first all female band to be #1 for as long as they did.
I also find it interesting when you can draw parallels with the pace of the song to the pace of the show. The source material sorta starts with a bunch of crazy then has a period of calmer exploration leading into adventure and the song flows that way.
melodically i think also that guitar riff in the chorus almost echoes the melody of the vocals which helps stick the vocal dandadan melody as the “main” syncopation to follow follow compared to the 3:2 polyrhythm in the second half of the dandadan phrase. great insight from the rhythmic perspective from someone who is admittedly more tunnel visioned on melodic lines as a sax player!
Ooh I've been waiting for your reaction to Otonoke! I think your music reactions have the best depth/info to them rather than just "oh that's nice" of a lot of the other creators. Also, Go Hawks!
That beginning part with the highs and lows is reminiscent to paranormal sounds, specifically UFO’s/ghosts which is a recurring theme in the show. It’s a cool little Easter egg in the intro.
Personally I actually look for songs frequently that have that "Similar, but not the same" vibe to them. Whenever I hear some new sound that I haven't been exposed to, I get excited to try to find similar songs but often struggle with just getting the exact same song on repeat with new lyrics. A lot of artists I listen to really like to experiment, and I appreciate that, but it can result in songs that are vastly unrelated and often aren't the style I was excited for when I found them. It's a sweet spot for my personal tastes.
Out of the three openings and endings these guys have done that I've heard, the Mashle one is definitely the most catchy, and this is a capturing lightning in the bottle, but honestly I like the first of the three I came across, and it's very different from these two (Call of the night ending 1 Yofukashino Uta) Edit - Didn't realize they did the opening too for Call of the Night, Still like that ending the best of all the stuff I've heard by them lol (Some reason I can't find the clip from the series, but the full song is Yofukashino Uta by Creepy Nuts)
The songs they make to match the anime's theme are so on point, like what they did for Call of the Night, Mashle and many others! Plus it's the animation + ost combo is what makes the adaptation peak! It's rare these days that we get a good combo of animation, music/sound design, and a good manga story to begin with!
Yeah that is correct but I think showing that grouping to average folks is more difficult to understand. It's definitely 16th note triplet based within the song which is why I went further to say we use that pattern within paradiddlediiddles often. Huh gah dahs are fun. The idea here was to show isolation of note values with a simpler visual.
Gladly I'm not a nitpicking person when it comes to the similarities. For me it's very enjoyable to listen as it's their identity of some their songs. Rather than repetitiveness, it's just what makes creepy nuts creepy nuts for me.😊😊
I just can't get enough of this song, I stop every time I come across it and listen again.

I'm not the biggest fan of Creepy Nuts songwriting, as I much prefer a melodic focus, rather than using repeated rhythmic patterns for verses & halfway singing-halfway "narrating a story" choruses, like they do. But goddamn are they still amazing musicians & there's some amazing progressions & chords in this track!
Love that your not super pressed to praise the track to the max because it's popular. I have 0 musical production knowledge, but, as a normy, I'd like to share a quick thought. Personally, this song speaks to me as a fan who's been reading Dandadan for years. The feelings I get in the progression that the song gives is like a microcosm of how it feels when reading the series itself. The way these guys make songs is almost like they were tailor made to star this opening for the series. The creepy (ha) instrumentals with thumping, unusual baselines and snappy lyrics transitioning into melodic strings and vocals. They bring out those memories of reading certain chapters for the first time effortlessly, and I think those moments have now been enhanced for me, since I'll likely be thinking back to this track on subsequent re-reads.
Watched the first ep of Dan Da Dan, already hooked, and the OP is a "never skip". If you haven't seen it yet, check out Elusive Samurai, Tony. It's a great anime from last season with beautiful animation and an OP and ED that absolutely slaps
I always love your constructive opinions. I personally agree with you this time, but even in the past when I disagreed with you, I understood your point of view and I think you always make valid points.
the switch up is really what makes this song's identity, imo the switch up part sounds nothing like bling bang bang born (when listening to both back to back) but then again im a 16y old that has zero experience with any kind of instrument LOLL
That was almost exactly my reaction as well: A few seconds of "eh, why so similar to bling bang born" but then it just takes off into a completely separate direction. Which I honestly like better! Both OPs are way up in my favs but Dandadan/Otonoke comes out ahead for me.
Honestly, Idrc how similar it is to Bling Blang Born, but man, some of the visuals in the opening makes me feel a certain way. I love how they made Jiji goofy. Just like he is in the series 😂
while waiting for the (maybe) inevitable Otonoke First Take, I highly recommend checking out the First Take version of Umeda Cypher's Umeda Night Fever 19. Creepy Nuts' R-Shitei is a member of this Kansai rap supergroup and has exclusively nothing but singing parts in that song.
If you're curious, Wuthering Waves released a banger recently. A live orchestra version of an ost made for Shorekeeper (new character). Would love to see your reaction to it
I really appreciate the honesty because as much as I love this opening, Ill be the first to say it’s more of a guilty pleasure because of how addicting the rhythm is rather than the writing. Nonetheless I think it works for Dandadan and definitely gave it some deserved attention
The beat reminds me of running or a chase, like when you go at a high pace and then jump to avoid something and keep running, but continue to hold your rhythm to keep from slowing down. Which when you say it kinda makes sense for the show in a way; it's fast paced and it jumps a few steps then lands and keeps going. But I think the opening was meant to step up anticipation for when it jumps through the zero gravity flow in the middle then lands on the other side and keeps going to loop the "Dandadans" prominently back in with a different perspective. I will say I think the full version might be considered a little disappointing as it kinda repeats the chorus without any really new surprises, but as someone who hadn't seen the Mashle opening until hearing that they did both, this felt fresh and might be why so many people responded to it so well. I remember liking the Call of the Night opening they did, but for the life of me I can't remember it now.
I think i get why they tried to make it a little more similar to Bling Blang Born, Mashle's second op proly gona get Opening Of The Year, so they know that "formula" sticks, DanDaDan is a new anime so they tried to make it on the same style, to keep people hooked on, its "simple" but very damn effective, its like brazilian funk the beat is the same in most of the songs but when it matches the delivery it just works
@@DrumRollTonyReacts It's fun hearing inspirations from more niche genres that've been around for a while. I predict anime OP producers will catch on to vocal chops in the next couple years, and we'll get years of shonen BMore house beats.
I care Tony! No for real though I may not understand everything you are saying but I love when you nerd out about the composition and drum lines and all that you can see the passion exude from you. And I did notice the similarities between this and Bling Bang Born but once that transition hits and it get melodic I think I just forget about it lol
For 1:55, of course I can only speak for myself, but I care, I really like little excursions like this. I replied to a comment on the original video somewhere and for me too, I didn't enjoy this track as much as their other recent tracks due to the similarities, I can't point my finger on what exactly it is, but I feel like I could make out some similarities to the Call of The Night OP in the refrain (might be completely mistaken here) as well. That being said, knowing what the show is about to a certain degree, I think they did an amazing job encapsulating the mood and craziness that is Dandadan into this song and I can hardly think of other artists who could have pulled that off like they did. Also, since the beat is so catchy, for me it becomes better the more often I listen to it.
Yeah I get you on the similarities with their main hit. I loved the most about this song is the part where it goes like really chill/tranquil. I does make a nice contrast with the previous segment but they could have achieved the same contrast without nearly copying a previous song.
Its very Jersey Club influenced, in the genre a lot of the 808 patters are similar, with a 4 on the floor with some variation on the 4th beat. It can be repetitive but its more about what you’re able to do within that pocket, which makes the genre enjoyable to me while also being a genre that makes you want to dance and move

Based on your comments at 7:21, I'd like to suggest 'Every Second' by Mina Okabe (A Condition Called Love). I have dubbed homegirl 'Japanese Sade' and I think you'll like the realistic sound of her voice and variations, especially the CHORUS. I don't expect you to make a video out of this, but it may be a good listen, on the aspect of vocals over beats/studio effects. Then again, if you're used to listening to song with beats that make it stand out, maybe not. Oh well, just a thought.
while it defo is similar in beat to bling bang born i think this just pulls it off better idk. like bing bang born i wouldn’t add to a playlist because it just doesn’t take itself seriously enough whereas otonoke works better as a stand alone song
I think the song vibe and tone is a total 180 from bling bang bang born, so the stylistic similarities are definitely something I don't care about. This emits a lot of pressure and unease with a lot of contrast, while the BBBB is a fun silly song executed with the same ideas.

The issue with that show specifically on youtube is copyrigright hell. So it's all on his patreon
I also find it interesting when you can draw parallels with the pace of the song to the pace of the show. The source material sorta starts with a bunch of crazy then has a period of calmer exploration leading into adventure and the song flows that way.
5:39 Totally true, that rhythm has been stuck in my mind for a month
melodically i think also that guitar riff in the chorus almost echoes the melody of the vocals which helps stick the vocal dandadan melody as the “main” syncopation to follow follow compared to the 3:2 polyrhythm in the second half of the dandadan phrase. great insight from the rhythmic perspective from someone who is admittedly more tunnel visioned on melodic lines as a sax player!
We all have our main music focus as related to primary instruments.
こんばんは!
日本は夜中です😃
They may not know it toward the country except Japan, but the lyrics rhyme using "DAN DA DAN" of the work name!
Too great!👏👏👏✨
Fiiinally someone who does honest reaction videos! None of those overly optimistic fake reactions
Ooh I've been waiting for your reaction to Otonoke! I think your music reactions have the best depth/info to them rather than just "oh that's nice" of a lot of the other creators.
Also, Go Hawks!
GO HAWKS! Big game tomorrow night
1:59 Nah I liked the drum line sidetrack, loved playing in my hs band. Keep up the good work dude
Out of the three openings and endings these guys have done that I've heard, the Mashle one is definitely the most catchy, and this is a capturing lightning in the bottle, but honestly I like the first of the three I came across, and it's very different from these two (Call of the night ending 1 Yofukashino Uta)
Edit - Didn't realize they did the opening too for Call of the Night, Still like that ending the best of all the stuff I've heard by them lol (Some reason I can't find the clip from the series, but the full song is Yofukashino Uta by Creepy Nuts)
The songs they make to match the anime's theme are so on point, like what they did for Call of the Night, Mashle and many others!
Plus it's the animation + ost combo is what makes the adaptation peak!
It's rare these days that we get a good combo of animation, music/sound design, and a good manga story to begin with!
Hey, nice vid!! I believe in minute 1:25 the beat is divided by 6 notes, every beat playing 1, 4 and 5 respectively. :)
@@DrumRollTonyReacts in that you are right. Thanks a bunch! :)
I think this song sounds completely different than Bling as a whole, any similarities just feels like its a part of Creepy Nuts' identity.
Мне так нравится видеть, как кто-то так же кайфует от какого-то трека, как и я. А этот опенинг мне просто запал в сердечко с первого прослушивания.
Gladly I'm not a nitpicking person when it comes to the similarities. For me it's very enjoyable to listen as it's their identity of some their songs. Rather than repetitiveness, it's just what makes creepy nuts creepy nuts for me.😊😊
WE'RE GETTING OUR BALLS BACK WITH THIS ONE!
Definitely listen to the full version and it also has an instrumental version which both of them are very good
I've heard that the live show for creepy nuts sounds just as good as their produced stuff, which is impressive.
Well, they are a rap group, so that's more or less expected
You should listen to their songs outside anime openings.
it's a duo of a dj and a rapper, so yeah
The raps are good, but they have few choruses better than their song "Daten 堕天"
@@spinelazuli29 I'd love to? What songs would you suggest?
I have been waiting for this since the very minute I first heard this opening.
I actually thought it was way too simplistic of an arrangement for him to get a good reaction video out of it 😂 but glad he did anyways
FYI: An Spanish artist directed this opening - Abel Góngora (Eizouken, Devilman Crybaby).
I always love your constructive opinions. I personally agree with you this time, but even in the past when I disagreed with you, I understood your point of view and I think you always make valid points.
Been patiently waiting for this song to officially drop so I could hear a proper analysis by Tony the GOAT 🔥
The horn you're talking about is a traditional musical instrument usually used for shamanist rituals. Thank you for sharing your views.
I highly recommend you check out their song ビリケン - especially on The First Take. It’s fantastic!
the switch up is really what makes this song's identity, imo the switch up part sounds nothing like bling bang bang born (when listening to both back to back)
but then again im a 16y old that has zero experience with any kind of instrument LOLL
That was almost exactly my reaction as well: A few seconds of "eh, why so similar to bling bang born" but then it just takes off into a completely separate direction.
Which I honestly like better! Both OPs are way up in my favs but Dandadan/Otonoke comes out ahead for me.
I would personally recomand the song "paranormal funk" that is also from Dandadan, that is truly the best OST
8:13 Yeh the famous " Bite à papa"
Honestly, Idrc how similar it is to Bling Blang Born, but man, some of the visuals in the opening makes me feel a certain way. I love how they made Jiji goofy. Just like he is in the series 😂
while waiting for the (maybe) inevitable Otonoke First Take, I highly recommend checking out the First Take version of Umeda Cypher's Umeda Night Fever 19. Creepy Nuts' R-Shitei is a member of this Kansai rap supergroup and has exclusively nothing but singing parts in that song.
I revisit the Brawl video a lot and was just thinking it’d be cool if you did Dan Da Dan AND HERE WE ARE! Perfect timing instant subscribe
Definitely feeling the vibe of this OP I loved it! I honestly just love all of Creepy Nuts' work
On spotify they give us the instrumental version. This is another song by itself
I watched the first episode and i was surprised how entertaining it was 😂
YEEEEEEEEEEEES when i first listened to the opening, i was thinking about how i wanted to see you react to it. Sooooo happy about this
That ostinato beat is just jersey club, that rhythm as well as rhe bed squeak is a staple of the genre
Yea, I'm familiar with the genre. I was in college when it was popular... it's old
But rhythm itself doesn't define a genre
Love your reactions!

@@cortomontagnon5625 yep, that's imo the best piece of music wuwa has put out thus far
I WAS GONNA REQUEST THIS IN COMMENTS BUT ITS ALREADY HERE
I think i get why they tried to make it a little more similar to Bling Blang Born, Mashle's second op proly gona get Opening Of The Year, so they know that "formula" sticks, DanDaDan is a new anime so they tried to make it on the same style, to keep people hooked on, its "simple" but very damn effective, its like brazilian funk the beat is the same in most of the songs but when it matches the delivery it just works
2:52 Nah, this OP is one g*nshot sample from a Jersey Club mix and I adore it.
The entire low end rhythmic foundation is the same. 👍
Drumrolltony: . . . . but you don't care about that
Me: I CARE I CARE PLEASE
I love how they let a pikimin let lose on the backing track

Also, since the beat is so catchy, for me it becomes better the more often I listen to it.
i prefer this over any other OP nowadays. It is really unique
Yeah I get you on the similarities with their main hit. I loved the most about this song is the part where it goes like really chill/tranquil.
I does make a nice contrast with the previous segment but they could have achieved the same contrast without nearly copying a previous song.
You should check out the full version
Its very Jersey Club influenced, in the genre a lot of the 808 patters are similar, with a 4 on the floor with some variation on the 4th beat. It can be repetitive but its more about what you’re able to do within that pocket, which makes the genre enjoyable to me while also being a genre that makes you want to dance and move
This isn't 4 on the floor tho. It's two quarter notes, a dotted 8 to 16th ,eighth note rest and then an eighth note
It's kinda ironic you say it sounds like Bling-Blam cause there's a really good mashup of the two songs out there already.
that isn't ironic
@@karlmarks5698 Look bro, english doesn't care and neither should you. "It's ironic" isn't used for the literal case of irony.

I like the song. I Don't mind it being similar to the other one. Good video tho as always 👍
Thx for the suggestion
This fit dandadan cause the anime is hectic and mellow in each episode/manga chapter.
This season will give bro so many good reactions 🙏
Creepy nuts they are amazing my favarite group from Japan.
while it defo is similar in beat to bling bang born i think this just pulls it off better idk. like bing bang born i wouldn’t add to a playlist because it just doesn’t take itself seriously enough whereas otonoke works better as a stand alone song
Agreed
I think the song vibe and tone is a total 180 from bling bang bang born, so the stylistic similarities are definitely something I don't care about. This emits a lot of pressure and unease with a lot of contrast, while the BBBB is a fun silly song executed with the same ideas.
