You are such a nice person Chris I feel so sorry for you. I know you don't want people to feel sorry for you I know that but I have emotional feelings listening to your stories. I am dragging my feet on treatments. I'm 70 years old 3 + 4 = 7 and 2 biopsy opinions. The initial report I would consider favorable Gleason 7. A 5% volume on the four. But I did have multiple cores. But the second opinion from John Hopkins came back 40% and 50% on the fours. Which is not good. I am waiting for a third opinion! But for some reason the doctors are dragging their feet on ordering it. Which is giving me a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety.

Thank you for this video my brother will have the surgery in October and I've been so worried. He's mentally ill and I have to care for it.. I'm not a nurse and I'm afraid I'll mess it up.

My thoughts are with you and your brother. The hospital should go over care instructions before you go home. I found it easy to manage. I was also surprised how painless it was to remove.

      Hello Stella Bella.
You will manage. I was on my own and it was no problem. Will in most cases be for about a week, can be longer but not usual.( I had a minor problem, so I was four weeks, but my situation was quite rare, and not the norm)
What I would recommend is getting a waterproof mattress cover. After the catheter comes out the peeing can be quite dramatic, you think it will never fix.
I never actually wet the bed, but on standing up it would start and I was using perhaps three of the most absorbent pads a day. And when I went walking in the woods , at first it seemed uncontrollable. Also no Tea or Coffee as they can irritate the Bladder.
      Good Luck

Thank you for your video, I have surgery on 3/29/23. For showers, do you disconnect the bag and just let urine flow into the shower drain and then reconnect bag after shower?

What was it like when they removed the catheter???

My surgeon uses the suprapubic catheter. It’s a little less obtrusive than the urethral one, because it goes directly into the bladder through the abdominal wall. Yes, it’s a little freaky seeing a tube sticking out of your body, but there is really no discomfort and the penis is free of the tube and the discomfort that comes from that.
I’ll be able to test urination ability myself by plugging the catheter and trying go urinate normally. When that’s established, they’ll remove the catheter.
