Im all for an honest review but this review clearly had a bias b4 the review even started. Almost every bit of video you say the action looks better, im over here watching the video like uhm... no the ace clearly looks better including on the lowlight test lol. I get it the screen aint for you and agree a replaceable lens would be better, but i also find dam near everyone you ask whos gotta die on that hill how many times they have had to replace there lenses in the past, 9/10 the answer is never. There are a ton of game changing features you neglected to even mention and i disagree its not an action cam. May not be the best for extremes like mt biking or skateboarding but it absolutely fills a good nich in the market and solves just about every issue ive had with gopro style cameras action cams. Low light filming is huge for me, using it for fishing most my best video isnt useable from mornings and evenings. Its still an action cam cuz itll be out in all conditions, pooring rain, cold, extreme heat etc... where i would never have a non action camera. As far as the lens they do offer 1 year no Q?s asked free just pay shipping. 38$ gets you full protection and covers shipping so there is at least some form assurance there. The 8k isnt so much for filming as its more to make the cam able to 2x zoom in at 4k without losing resolution. Thats another huge plus for me and only makes it even more versatile for action cam stuff where one typically would not be feasible. Both are great camera and would absolutely take both over gopro for many reasons, but my next primary cam will be the ace pro, secondary cam im torn between the action4 and the x3.
I don't know about the rest of y'all but this is giving me a smear campaign type vibes. it's okay if you don't like the 360 Ace pro for its "cons" but when you say that it has worse lag than the action four and in both video previews it shows the opposite that's kind of weird. then when people in the comment section tells you that the ace pro looks better than the DJI 4 I see you combatting against them in the comment section instead of just trying to learn and understand what they see during your reviews. I just think that's wild but I really do appreciate you for taking your time to buy it and giving us some footage so other people could compare which cameras should they buy. if they buy the 360 then they have you to thank and if they buy the action four then they have you to thank again. Life is too short to be forcing people see your opinions as facts just give your honest reviews and keep it moving that way people could trust your opinion and that's how your audience will grow for your channels algorithm and plus life will just be more simpler that way as well. 🤷🏻🤘🙏🏼😋
Yeah...he even said ace pro low light is worse...which is nuts. People think they are fighting groupthink when they just say the exact opposite of what the sponsored reviewers say. That's just...more groupthink.
maybe reverse review 🤔 though he's right with the focus. don't know if this is a review or he doesn't like the flip screen. but i really love the flip screen when taking video. you dont need to crawl on the ground just to see if the shot is good or in bad position. very usable. 👌👌👌
The lens cover is highly dependent on use case, I know many folks who are still rocking the Hero 8 and no issues. Your review seems biased to the DJI sorry just my opinion
Well, I think as an action camera it should have a removable filter, it would be like selling a car where you can't change tyres. I will also put it up against the Hero 12, and I'm pretty sure the Hero 12 will knock it out of the park too. You see, my video is not sponsored, so I won't censor anything.
I agree, this review was only based on hinge of display and removable cover, not everyone is an extreme sports user and I've never once destroyed or scratched any of my actioncam screens and I have many ranging from Sony to GoPro to DJI's. The really funny thing with this review is that you did not touch based with one positive thing that supersedes the GoPro and DJI and you're judged this camera on the two negative things. By your method, I should post a reviews to never buy a GoPro due to chronic overheating issues and pretty much unusable low light recording, would you think that's fair? DJI has their issues too, ie. Action 2, pretty little thing but absolutely unusable as an "actioncam", I know, I have one. So, if you don't mind, I will tag this as a bias review. Sorry, a "real" review covers BOTH negatives AND positives and let's the audience decide, you did no such thing.
The hinge display and the non-removable lens, two bad things on any action camera. Well, the funny thing is that there is no positive note to talk about over the Action 4 or Hero 12, the Ace Pro seems like a rushed into production camera to match the two latest from DJI and GoPro. So besides the useless 8K which has serious lag, and no doubt crazy overheating, the intense over-sharpening AND softening of the image at the same time, the bad colours, the poor quality display, the lack of front screen, and I'm sure I'll find more that my peers missed. Most of the reviews were heavily censored, this isn't how a company should evolve with their product or audience. I would have covered any positives if the Ace Pro came with some, right now it all seems like smoke and mirrors. If we're talking about the Hero 12, it's actually much better on over-heating, as is the Action 4. Both the Action 4 and Hero 12 are vastly improved in low light, you just have to turn on their low light features, much like with Pureshot, I will be dropping a low-light video to demonstrate what each looks like, uncensored and honest. The Action 2 believe it or not is no doubt one of my favourite action cameras ever, and I think I own just about every single one on the market, what don't you like about it?
@@PhillipSkraba I think the Ace Pro has tons of potential, remember this is it's first Action Cam, GoPro and DJI has had issues with their 'first' cams as well, did we not just face a huge boo boo by DJI with Action 3 which issued recalls for the lens blur. Yes, granted flip screens are nice to have but not necessary a 'winning' feature for an action cam but for people who don't use this in extreme condition will take benefit from it, not to mention more and more people are using their action cams for vlogging. 8K is gimmick in this timeline but due to the sensor it can achieve better 2x zoom, are you really saying that the 1.6x zoom on the GoPro is the same or better then the lossless 2x zoom the AP???? that's a plus feature imo. Remember when the day we said 4K was gimmicky, where are we now, that said, the hardware is there, I think the 8k will be more tweaking with future firmware as this gets older. GP's heat issues "is much" better, it's Gen12, there shouldn't be a heating issue period, there are other cameras out there that don't have heating issues shooting at the same modes, I'm sorry, this is in excusable. Need we forget we managed to survive lots of models of actioncams that didn't have front displays, GoPro started out with the same display and tbh, I rather have settings I can see then a microscopic display that's hard to see in sunlight, i'm out in sun light a lot so this feature was useless. Heck, even the DJI Osmo has a better front screen display and that thing is old, still my work horse to this day. I'm not bias to Insta360 but I am against writing off a camera that has potential in it's infancy which by most videos have given it a thumbs up for most, it's not perfect by any means. You say most reviews were 'heavily' censored, where's your proof of that and you really believe that every review out there even the foreign ones and ones from reputable reviews from the past are 'censored'? What good does that do for those reputable reviewers, doesn't make much sense. That said, you didn't even bring up any of the good points of this camera, ie. in camera AI editing, pause, cancel function which btw was a big request from a lot of users, lossless zoom, low light advantages, interface use 10x smoother then a GoPro but not the DJI, I do like DJI's interface and this reminds me a lot of that. How do I know the low light is not smoke and mirrors? because I belong to a scuba dive group and one of the divers has this camera and has already taken it out diving, the footage is incredible which btw is mostly what I'm using this for. As for the DJI Action 2, don't get me started lol I'm a bow hunter, the DJI action 2 is mounted on my bow, perfect size and quality.... when it works. Consistently between 5-10C, this camera gives me a temp warning, too cold, when it's too warm, it also doesn't like to turn on lol This is the first camera that's ever done this, I usually mounta Session 5 or DJI Osmo and never once did it give me that bs, even when it was -12C. Oh, great modular idea, 20-30 minute shooting battery on the camera, really. Don't get me wrong, quality of the camera is nice but talk about a camera that was rushed, DJI A2 was definitely rushed. It's a great camera that takes amazing footage... at the right temperature lol
insta360 created some very nice cameras in the past and even the Ace Pro is not bad either. However, biggest mistake they are doing right now is, that it is NOT an action camera but more a vlogging camera where serious falls etc. might not happen at all. If you check the bigger tech RUclipsrs you can clearly see a trend where they don't talk about any possible problems with the Ace Pro and I am glad someone does this now. Go buy your Ace Pro if you think this is the right fit for you! 🙂@@MiyagisRant
The image quality of the Ace pro is obviously much better, regarding the screen and the lens guard, it wont confuse me much cuz i dont really do sports
It's better? I think you're seeing the over-sharpening, whereas on the Action 4 you actually have detail. Add to that the fact that your skin colour won't be natural, and white balance is all over the place, I'd lean away from the Ace Pro.
@@Semionius well, it's a little confusing, I know, my fault. In the iPhone video above, the Ace Pro is on the left. This though is only natural as it's filming in 8K with stabe on. In 4K this is not a problem, and actually in 8K with stabe off it does fine. The lag is only in the preview screen, in the actual final video it is fine.
You legend! This is what I was waiting for... held off buying over Black Friday and being hooked by the hype around the InstaAP. Seems like every video review made was as though they were being held at gunpoint to say loads of positive things about it. You've definitely put my mind at ease, and my first action cam will be the Osmo Action 4. Kudos, subscribed :D
As an action camera the Action 4 is excellent and I can't say a bad word about it. After almost a weeks use I have come to the conclusion that the Ace Pro is a vlogging camera, one I'll be using a lot more to see what it can really do. Thanks, and welcome to the channel!
why do u have osmo 4 tag on the left side and ace pro on the right side, when u have them opposite on the handle? we can see it on the first shot and iphone shot as well.. if the tags are correct, hen osmo lags and have worse picture quality. please respond. thanks
at first i had the same feeling but look closely in the beginning where he points at the cameras and than later where he makes a selfie. then you see the angles of the pictures and the cameras. So the Tags are correct. and because the lags he have not synced the timing in Post properly, thats why. DJI has a wider Angle i and it dont look like a fish eye. on the ace its narrower and it looks like a fish eye. I have bougt the dji4 had the dji3 before. I can say it is amazing. no lags, perfect colors, good AWB, good low light performance.
@Matej997 thanks. I never had action camera before. Right now I wanna use it for taking videos from my hiking. I'm mostly in the forest. So do you think I'll be happy with osmo 4?
Now I can watch your video in full HD, I have ordered this camera and can't wait to test it. But I start to doubt a little when I see your video. I have the Dji Action 4 and it's amazing. Really hope Insta360 comes with some updates and makes it better. I know I get a little annoyed with those who got to test this camera before it was launched, they braged so much about this camera. New gopro killer, blah, blah. At least you are honest
One issue that doesn't get discussed is the Action 4's image distortion at the edges of the frame. Compared to the Ace Pro, it really is very pronounced, even in Dewarp. Check out this video at 2:03 where this issue seems to be most obvious with the circular object in the background.
EXCELLENT comparison! Well done, sir! I had just bought the Action 4 (with the extra batteries, selfie stick, etc package) about a month ago. Watched a few videos, and was nearly convinced I needed to sell the Action 4 and get the new Ace Pro, particularly for the "better" low light. I smelled a tad hint of BS, and you've done a fantastic job of proving my suspicions. But the main deal breaker was the non-removable lens cover. WTF! Just wow. Dig your channel, keep killing it!
Thank You! I’m glad it eased your mind. Yeah, that lens is asking for a scratch, which means a tiring process of sending it back to Insta and waiting forever no doubt.
Thanks. I guess looking at the raw 4k footage I get to pixel peep a lot more, hence my assessment. I’d personally pick the Action 4 due to its more natural colours, detail - not sharpening, correct AWB - it has a sensor. 10bit and Log profile - basics of a pro camera, missing on the Ace Pro. The lack of removable lens is unforgivable in an action camera, yep.
@@PhillipSkrabaI was thinking about the non removable lense since I ordered an ace pro, but then I realized the pocket 3 I returned due to all kinds of issues didn’t have a removable lense. I just use these camera for vlogging. I am enjoying all your videos
6:14 If I look at the results of the DJI Action 4 and Insta360 Ace Pro videos for image quality, I prefer the DJI Action 4 because the image results are more original and the FoV° is wider... on the Insta360 Ace Pro the results are good, bright but the FoV° is a little less wide and skyy. on the back it doesn't look original because it's too blue. and I decided to buy a DJI Action 4. For video results, I don't really need 8K recording like on the Insta360 Ace Pro because I prefer to record with FHD or 4K quality.👌
Cheers buddy, I wonder about the colours at 3:45. If you look at the trees on the right: the trees on Ace Pro look to have some colour in the leaves area but on A4 it looks desaturated. Can you take a closer look at the original footage and tell me if the image from the DJI is missing the colour in that area. If you only can, check what will happen if you oversaturate it, will the colour reappear or is it completely washed out? I'm asking as I found the problem with desaturated shadows on my own Action 2 camera which thanks to that I passionately hate. I have the video on my channel about that issue if you want to take a look. This tree looks the same 'ish in your footage. A tak poza tym to pozdrowienia, kiedyś mieszkałem niedaleko Pietryny ;)
Not sure what you were trying to prove with the lag BUT the Action 4 was the one lagging. Granted, the lense removal issue is not cool BUT just get the screen protector. The pause, pick up recording where you left off and so much more makes the choice obvious. Also, the picture overall, is superior.
Please look at the iPhone video carefully, the Action 4 is on the right in it. I think it’s obvious the choice would be the Action 4, I’ll get into more reasons in a further video.
@@PhillipSkraba I think the question might be regarding the actual video footage comparison, where the Action 4 is behind....Probably just an issue of aligning the clips on your timeline.
I'm tired of my gopros. Im thinking of the action 4 or the Ace pro. I've watched alot of videos on both. I would like to put a wireless mic up to it as well like the dji mic or rode wireless.
Brother, im really confused Just give me an honest answer Which one has better video Quality IN DAY LIGHT , IN HIGHWAYS , IN CITY LIGHTS ON MOUNTAINS X4 , ACTION 4 OR ACE PRO ??
If you want something that will work in the daytime and in low light, and will always look good, I'd go with the Ace Pro. It looks great at day time and it excels at low light, that's the honest truth.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you for replying sir ! Is X4 worth the price I mean the video Quality for motovlogging is it worth or better than Ace Pro or Action 4 ?
@@Darkk_knight_ The quality of video is higher in my opinion on the Ace Pro, BUT the X4 has the option to frame later, so you when motovlogging I think that would be beneficial - you can take the same shot and look at where you're riding, and re-frame the same shot and look at your face as you're riding, that's the beauty of it. The re-frame quality is around 4K now and it does look very nice. The low-light is much better in the Ace Pro however.
Daylight, OA4 looks better to me. First video clip, I was surprised to see that much grain in the DJI footage. On the specs, ace pro says 170 mb/s. Does this cover for the fact that it’s not filming in 10 bit?
Yes, it was pretty noisy in that shot, I guess it was trying to compensate for the range of contrasts. I don't like the noise, but I also don't like the soft over-sharpening effect on the Insta360. I don't think the mb/s matter to be honest, smoke and mirrors, on paper the Ace Pro seems like a winner, but out there, on the streets, it's just another contender, and if you drop it you'll probably cry if the screen snaps and the lens chips. I hope to keep mine in good condition so I can get my money back.
@@PhillipSkraba totally agree. The screen is a no go for me. And being down 3 wks to a month waiting on your camera to return doesn’t sound fun at all. Unnecessary hassle really.
Me too, it would be a pain in the ass replacing the screen and the lens, and that's the main reason I didn't get the GoPro Hero 8. Funny thing is Insta360 gave all the reviewers Ace Pro cameras with removable lenses.
I haven't noticed a problem with over-heating. The Action 4 is a great choice, it really depends on what you're doing. If it's vlogging the Ace Pro seems to tick a lot of boxes. The more I use it, the more I realise it's meant to vlogging.
Thanks for the video. Around 1:58, DJI is having so many nasty noises on the wall, Ace Pro looks super clean. Personally, I'd prefer the Ace Pro for its AWB and colors - it makes for quick and nice-looking social media edits without the need for color grading on a computer.
Yes, the Action 4 suffered from some noise in places, the Ace Pro rendered those same frames with a lot of processing makes the image on closer inspection very soft and over-sharpened, neither had a good look. However the AWB and colours on the Ace Pro are horrible and were really off in a lot of places, I’d take the grain over having to fix those colours in post later.
Well, no, it only has 1 usb-c input like most action cameras. However, I'm hoping DJI update the Action 4 to be able to use the Mic 2 system via bluetooth as it's insanely good. GoPro Hero 12 has bluetooth audio too. So hopefully in the future, yes. USB mic, sure, aren't they all usb mic now?
@@PhillipSkrabasorry meant bluetooth, the dji mic 2 works with the Ace right now. Also the Ace has a really nice adapter for a 3.5mm trs mic that allows USB power pass thru so you can record all day with no internal battery .
Okay first of all: the action 4 shows background of buildings straight the acepro warps the buildings and makes them rounded as he walks past: second the light on the ace pro is over exaggerated and the closer he gets to intense light it seems to thus correct itself. But my only question to the creator of this video is: was the sky that day really that blue (as shown in the acepro) or was it closer to action 4? In term of reality?
Thank you for making this, I was struggling to choose between these 2 but ultimately went for the Action 4 for it's smaller size, better durability, replaceable lens protector and much lower price.
i'm quite confused on the video, you showed us the delay between the 2 cameras, on the video of 2 cams on stick, and the video with lag was with dji action 4 write. have you inverted che writes? also you were complaining oversharpening etc....but actually was on dji... idk seems you've inverted the videos or models written down them?
insta360 is not used to providing replaceable lens although people have requested for years on their 360 cameras which are fragile. its good you brought it up and kept highlighting it as many of the sponsored reviewers dont speak much about it or brush it away
You`re very wrong! Actually, insta360 is the only one who provides action cameras with replaceable lenses (One R/One RS) no other manufacturer does this. And if you don`t know what lens is and talk about lens covers (protectors), then insta360 have them to on their action cameras.
@@cdjxwubcyex one r and one rs swapping the 360 mod to 1 inch mod youre replaceable the whole sensor and lenses. thats not what we're talking about here. we're only talking about the lens or lens the lens protector. the reason we call it lens instead of lens protector is to not confuse people with an extra lens protector some people use. the only insta360 with replaceable lens/lens protectors is the go 2/go 3. thats about it. and thats a bad practice by insta360. they need to make all their cameras have replaceable lens/lens protector.
@@truthseeker6804 Yes insta360 One R an RS are the only action cameras in the world with changeable lenses (together with sensor module) and it`s stupid to deny it. There was actually 3 variants (4K, 1-inch and 360). And you`re wrong about lens covers (protectors) to, because I'm holding one in my hand right now. It`s One R with 1-inch sensor and round, threaded lens protector, witch you can easily replace or use filters instead. Sorry if I sound rude, but I`m very annoyed, when people are spreading lies (intentionally or unintentionally)
Great video. Sir you said you edit your photos and videos on Macbook Air M2. Any issues with it performance wise? Throttling etc? Debating between Air and Pro. Mostly because of the 16” screen!
This video is organic but I can't agree on the image quality...I like the footage of Ace Pro more. Look at the branches and the details of the sky, and the noise indoors. Well I actually think the flip screen is a good design because I can barely see what I am vlogging on the little front screen on my old OA3...
I think you’re being misled by your eyes, the branches have over-sharpening, which is totally different to detail on the Action 4. The colours and AWB are way off, there was for example zero blue in the sky. As for the screen, I feel more at ease looking at the Action 4 screen as the screen on the Ace Pro seems incredibly pixelated. I’m definitely sticking with the Hero 12 and Action 4.
Hello, your channel has some of the best comparison videos Thank you I have an Osmo Action 4. It has 10 bits and the Ace Pro has 8 bits If I want to change my films from the Osmo 4 to my editing program (for example, I want more contrast and vibrancy, it works wonderfully Does this work as well as with 8 bit like with the Ace Pro or can it lead to a worse result with a color change if you want to change more contrast or vibrancy on the PC with the cutting program
Bro thanks for amazing video! Could you please advise me which of the action cameras is the best for recording my airsoft games on the open areas with a amount over my halmet? Which camera choice would be the best?
Well, the Action 3 is pretty similar in quality to the Action 4, so if it's got a good deal go get it. One thing I did think about though for cyclists and motovloggers is that the flip screen on the Ace Pro would make life easier when you have the camera on your handlebars. I need to look more into this camera, and start treating it like a vlogging camera, not an action camera.
Amazing and honest review! I was toying with the idea of the Ace Pro against the Action 4, so many hyped and ‘amazing’ graded reviews, therefore I was hesitant. Your video helped me avoid a potential mistake. Thank you.
Hey! How did you end up returning your insta360? The videos come out blurry when uploaded….I’m having so much trouble finding a way to do it since ive already activated it. Please someone help🙏🏼😰
Cant decide betwee the two. I think the ace pro has much better low light and hdr video quality, on the other hand i think the acepro has more destortion and a lot warmer / yellowish colours on daylight?
Phillip, i like your channel so much. Your reviews are honest and true. I stick to my 2 months old Action 4 :) you have a new subscriber :) dont stop the good work :)
The Action 4 and the Hero 12 are both worth the money you pay for them, this is the first time I’m contemplating returning a camera, and I own boxes full.
@@PhillipSkraba i understand. I like the insta360 X3 very much. Its a good camera. The ace pro is a good one too, for vloggers maybe but there are too many issues i dont like with the ace. So, you do the right thing :)
Hi, I have a question I'll be going to Dominican republic in a few months and I need your help to deciding what camera I should buy DJI ACTION 4 OR Insta 360 Ace Pro I would be doing a lot of action like offloading and going to the beach etc, so please help me decide !!! #something that doesnt overheat!
Insta 360 has a built in AI chip, does the dji? no. do you have to use the flip up screen? no. U should also review their apps to see how simple or complicated it is. and you should look at the settings, battery life and charging time.
Need to wait watching this test, not hd or 4k. But im gonna watch it later, obs I bought the ace pro, hope its good. Gonna get it tomorrow or the next day.
I was, yes. I have been using the Ace Pro a LOT since this video and have started looking at it as a vlogging camera, and to be honest it's become my favourite vlogging camera.
It appears so, the problem is though that the sky was white, heavily overcast without a bit of blue, so this is the Ace Pro misjudging the AWB of the scene and turning the sky blue.
Thanks for some healthy skepticism toward the new camera! I've seen about 15 different but exactly same comparisons / reviews only focused on the strong points of the ace pro. I'm interested in actual unprocessed ACTION videos. I'm getting the distinct feeling that the ace pro image qualify will not be so favorable when the FPS goes beyond the HDR modes (30+) and that the FOV is smaller then the others... But no-one's actually showing action shots from motorcycles / mountainbikes (yet).
To tell you the truth I haven't even tried that yet. I've been testing the Ace Pro to see what it can actually do. I need more time with it to really get to the bottom of it, but your idea sounds like a good one, so when I get some time I'll check that out.
You make some good points Philip but how many of us have ever broken a laptop by opening and closing it so tbh the point you make is hardly a serious one but the pixelation on the flip screen is a really good point
HI This review is really interesting. Thank you very much for being critical when everyone is excited without using the A Cam for more than a week. I agree with you on the weak points. Especially the mobile screen (very fragile, if you fall with the bike?) and the non-removable lens cover (Insta gives a year of free repair for this lens. Very strange, don't you think?) . Now the use of AI seems really interesting but the possibility of changing lenses and the greater solidity of DJI are not things to underestimate. However, I have to ask you for further advice, please. I'm really torn between the Ace Pro and the DJI 4. My doubts about the Ace pro are exactly what you said. Probably the really interesting feature of the Ista Ace pro is the possibility to pause video recording and resume an already finished video (this is really interesting). I bought an Insta360 one AR (also very popular on RUclips) but I returned it (after 2 weeks) due to the very poor quality especially with low light and some specific defects (it randomly turned off for no reason when the video started). Now my perplexity towards the DJI 4 is due to overheating problems especially in the hot months. I read about DJI 4 overheating shut down after a 5-10 minute video. What is your opinion on this specific issue? I specify that my sporting uses are mainly for cycling activities (even 3-4 hours in the winter cold or under the summer sun) and trekking in the mountains (even 7-8 hours of walking in winter or summer above 200 meters above sea level) . Or should we think about a winter and a summer Action Cam? In fact, it seems that the DJI4 has no problems with cold and very cold temperatures but has many problems with hot climates. And perhaps it wouldn't be suitable for use in the summer when cycling or climbing the mountains under the Mediterranean sun. Thank you very much
It's a bit confusing, which one is really the Ace Pro and which one is the DJI? It seems where you point to be the DJI in the video, there's the Ace Pro and where you say it's ;s the Ace Pro, there's actually the DJI. When you were talking about the lag, based on your labelling of the two cameras, the lag is on the DJI cam. No wonder some people think Ace Pro has better footage. I might be wrong, please check. But great review BTW.
It's refreshing to see an actual HONEST comparison. I was having buyer's remorse after picking up the Action 4 just before the Ace Pro Launch, esp after the sponsored folks told me the Ace Pro is king. You've made it clear that the Action 4 has better/more natural AWB, pure (unsharpened) video quality, removable lens cover, no flippy screen to break, also smaller/lighter size makes the Action 4 a keeper. Thanks!
The Action 4 is a great camera, and it did a great job up against the Ace Pro in my tests without any of the A.I. tech that going on behind the scenes on the Ace Pro. After using the Ace Pro after a few days now, I'm looking at it as a vlogging camera, not so much as an action camera. It's missing Log, 10-bit, TimeCode, a removable filter, stuff that the more advanced action camera user requires. The Ace Pro, if you look at it as a vlogging camera, is quite probably the best vlogging camera I've ever used, from camera to social media it's no doubt the best.
Cheers, am considering selling my gorpro 12, so its between these 2 cameras if I do. To get all the bits I need for the Action pro is like £750, a bit less for action4, and the gopro creator will go for around £500. I had some crap footage in the woods when I was vlogging on an overcast day on the woods. The insta bells and whistles are very tempting, but you have shown some flaws that many do not. Do you recommend switching to the dji? Subbed!
What you don't understand is that the majority of consumers use action cameras to make vlog videos because it is very compact and does not attract much attention from other people...there are not only sports consumers
I don’t understand that? That’s all I do. You see me jumping out of an airplane? Skiing down a mountain? Nah. I use mine to vlog with. I fully understand that. I look for the best camera, this isn’t it.
For you it isn’t, but for some it may be. Seems like you created this to dog the insta. Based on some of your responses, I feel like you were against the insta from the start. All good, but just pointing it out.
For a dedicated action camera dji action4. For everything else vlogging and just sight seeing and possible light action stuff I’d probably get the insta ace. So it really depends on what your plan is with using said camera but for sure all I know is for sure I won’t be getting a go pro. 😂
That's one thing I have noticed about the Ace, it seems like the perfect camera for most vloggers. The colours are crispy, the menu is easy to navigate, you don't have to search to get to a setting and the screen is useful in both orientations. The Action 4 does seem like a solid action camera, but I've realised in the comment section that people prefer the punchier, more vivid look of the Ace Pro.
Yeah I think they like the out of the box editing for them it can go straight to whatever platform they are uploading, without playing with settings. I personally like the action4 because the tones look more realistic to me.
The Action 4 does seem to have more of a natural look, something that I can drop my LUT on, edit and play with. The Ace Pro after playing with it does seem like a camera to social media type of machine, which I guess is appealing to a lot more people, so I fully understand a lot of the comments I'm getting.
You said around 8:35 "that pisses me off" you know what pisses ME off? The intolerance of people in the community and lack of acceptance for your opinion. I completely love and respect your honesty which is furthermore why I'm grateful that thanks to you I haven't sold my OA 4 to buy an Ace "pro". As you said - the longevity, design and d-log m mode are big pros of the OA4 but furthermore the low light contrasts and caoabilities, the longer battery run time and the audio quality of the OA4 laughs about the AP
Well, the Action 4 is a hardcore action camera, designed with pro action users in mind, whereas the Ace Pro in my opinion is more of a vlogging camera, and a pretty great one at that, add a close up filter if you want to get super close and it does a great job at getting from camera to social media fast. To me they're are two completely different cameras, designed for different use cases.
Great review! I am so glad I bought 2 OA4's since it is so good in most conditions. But I think Ace and Ace Pro will work for vlogging with that screen.
I also have two OA4's! Great cameras. Well, you'd think so, right?! It's actually the biggest pain in the ass, as when I want to show something I need to put the screen down, when I want to flip back and film myself I need to lift the screen. Today I found out how much I hate that.
It's a bit confusing, which one is really Ace Pro and which one is DJI? It seems where you point to be the DJI in the video, there's Ace Pro. I might be wrong, please check. But great review BTW.
More will come. My videos will be uncensored, without any of the BS, you guys can make your own minds up. I'm just here showing it how it is, and not much of that has been done so far for obvious reasons.
@@BigcookfilmsOh, I see... Almost did the same with a bicycle indoor trainer I ordered, and had a fairly long delay before the store dispatched it today...
Yeah , I have the gopro 12 and the only problem is when I ride in the shade the stabilisation is goes madly so I will get the DJI Action 4 as it is as robust as the gopro but it does the lower light part. So cheers mate. Top video as usual . Dziekuje.
Thanks for your efforts to make this video. I don't own any action camera yet but I already have Insta360 X3 and mainly use it for trekking and usual vlogging with extra care for the scratch prone lens. Its single lens mode doesn't produce great output because of the small sensor and therefore I was actually looking for a durable action cam without worrying too much about scratching lens. After watching this video I realised DJI Action 4 is definitely my kind of cam. I love the way it process the video and the colours. I genuinely love my X3 and have nothing against Insta360, but it's really unfair to label Ace pro as an action cam.
I fully agree! If Insta360 had labelled it, king of vlogging, I’d expect a completely different reaction and approach to this camera. For vlogging it seems like the perfect camera.
The difference with the colour of the sky is most apparent to me with this comparison. What is the most accurate? Was the sky actually white as per the Action 4 or blue as per the Ace Pro.
I believe the Action 4 has 10 bit color which is important for post color correction, and it has the front screen handy for underwater selfies. The ACE Pro seems to be better at HDR.
Thank you for this review. I am in the process now of getting ready to purchase my FIRST real action camera other than the cheap knockoffs I have used for years. With the Action 4 on sale right now this decision has become much easier. The hype for the Ace Pro has distracted me very much!
Yes, thanks for saying this. A flip screen on an "action camera" never made sense to me. That thing is waiting to break on an adventure when you'll need it most and the lack of a dedicated front "screen" makes no sense to me.
That's true. On a vlog camera though it's a great idea. I've not been using this for action, as I don't do much of that, like 99% of the people who buy these cameras, so I've been vlogging with it, and for that, the flip out screen has really been pretty great!
I have ace pro and lens cover is removable. i did it with a unflated rubber baloon. yo only need to unscrew it wit your hand. but didn't open completely because in humid air it can get humid air in. that will cause fog later. but it can be changed easily. active HDR is very important advantage. i don't need to grade in pc. and also flipping screen has advantage to get cool the camera. non flippable screen get hot and it cover the camera back.
That's because I'm using audio from the Ace Pro. Please check the iPhone video on top, the Ace Pro is on the left. However, I have been digging into the 8K on this camera, and it's basically an addition to the camera, it's a setting for filming in low contrast situations and it will lag as it's rolling on 8K. I'm guessing if the DJI was filming on 8K, which it should be capable of, as it's using the same sensor as the Ace Pro, then it would probably lag too.
Yes. The DJI is on the left, the Insta is on the right. The audio is from the Insta. The BTS video above is from the iPhone, and on it if you look closely you'll see that the Insta360 is on the left.
@PhillipSkraba thanks for your quick replies but if you watch your video, the video that's lagging is on the left which is label DJI. I just want to make sure that this is clear because I want to buy the 360 I like the picture on the right better but when you get into the lagging part of it it shows it on the left. Not in the video from your iPhone but in the actual test videos it shows the lagging video on the left which is still labeled DJI.
David, once again. The video on the right is the Insta360, the audio is also coming from that camera, giving you the impression that the left video, which is the DJI is lagging. Ignore those two videos completely. Please look at the small video, the third video on the screen, from the iPhone, in that video you'll see on the left the Insta360 and on the right the DJI. The Insta360 does have lag in 8K, but after doing a lot of reading and digging, it's only normal, and I had no idea the 8K setting on the Ace Pro is a special setting used in special low contrast situations. I'd ignore the 8K part of the video and go for the camera that looks the best to you, if that is the camera on the right, then that's the Ace Pro, and you'll find a link for that in the description below.
@@PhillipSkraba I live in Thailand. I use to have insta360 one RS. And I cant find any place to change the scratched lens. Because there is no sevice center in Thailand. Maybe it's easy for you to send your camera to service center in another country. But in Thailand, we have to sent it through the dealer. It tooks about 3 months. And the dealer callect more money for they service. So, I didnt do that. I bought a lens from China. And replace it by myself(you can see the video that I replace the new lens in my channel.) I'll never bought anything from insta360 nomore, unless They have a service center in my country. Sorry about my bad english.
The reason they are offering 1 yr warranty on the lens because it could be a problem after the warranty ceases. and also you've answered my worries on the flip screen. it could not be for a longterm until such tim of flipping it back and forth.
You see, the thing about the screen, is that whilst I love having a bigger screen, it is not good for an action camera OR vlogging camera. After using it, I have noticed how much I hate it. I start by filming a scene, then switch to me talking, what happens, I need to reach over and use two fingers to push in the locks and pull it up to see myself, and then if I want to film a scene again, I turn the camera around and need to flip it back down to film the scene again. That is the most annoying thing in the world and in my opinion. The other point with how many times can you do that before something breaks, well, no idea.
Thanks for your thoughts. I'm in the same boat, so like you I spent my heard earned money to get the "true scoop" however my conclusion is the exact opposite. While you're knocking the 8k for being terrible slow your video is illustrating the exact opposite, showing the Ace being far more responsive than the Action 4, was that an editing trick or are you just sticking with the hate narrative? Also, the majority of your negative remarks are geared towards the assumption that it's just going to break, rather than actually testing or reviewing what it actually does. It just seems like opening it will make it fail (because computer) weird argument, it might be true, it might be total bs but at least be unbiased enough to give it a fair shake before just poopin all over something for the sake of poopin on it. Based on my real life testing it blows all other action cams out of the water, but that's just my first hand experience 😉
I agree ! The Ace Pro definitely better camera all around… there’s no proof the the flip screen will break, considering how often one will use it. Again the front lens can be opened and the factory WILL replace the lens for you doesn’t matter how you break it within 12 months!! Does GoPro or Action 4 offer that ???
Great, the first truly objective one of this camera. I was thinking about changing my Gopro 11 to the ACE PRO, but I really don't like the oversharpened image. Is there a chance to see the original recordings from ACE PRO? RUclips often presents worse videos as better due to its compression, which is why I see people disagreeing that ACE PRO is not the best camera in terms of image quality.
It’s not the best no. I’d say the Action 4 is the best all rounder, followed by the GoPro and lastly by the Insta360. Mind you the Insta360 destroys the GoPro in low-light.
@@PhillipSkrabaSorry, my engilish may not help :) I'm not saying INSTA is better than GOPRO/DJI :) I wanted try this camera, but i see this is not really upgrade. For me most important is daylight quality, so i stick with Gopro 5,3k. I see difference in details between 5,3k footage and 4k. I have also DJI action 2, which is really amazing camera, which i like the most for its size, but image is oversharpened, so need gopro to get full image quality :) If not oversharpening and other problems i would try INSTA360, but will wait for next gopro. 12 is not upgrade to 11, but it's nice we have first 8k camera and denoising - maybe it make gopro to move forward a bit faster. Competition is always good thing. Insta has some really nice feautures, which DJI and GOPRO not have.
@@drzewo6676 Well, the 8K is quite wild to have on an action camera, and it's nice that the option is available if you need it. Yes, that's true, in terms of all the cameras it does seem that Insta360 is the one innovating the most, this has its pros and cons.
FANTASTIC VIDEO!
Ahhh you’re the best F 🤜🏻🔥🤛🏻
Exactly
Insta 360 already lost even before the game begun
EXACTLY WHAT IM THINKIN
Nice comment
It’s interesting how different a review is when the person doesn’t get the camera for free. Earned my respect and sub.
Oh that's not true! Even when DJI send me cameras I take them for a ride and they sometimes get pissed off with me 😂
I don't thing they get only camera... :(
Agreed!
im confused. you say the 8k was lagging on the ace pro but in your video the dji was lagging? did you labeled it wrong?
Yeah, my stupidity, watch the iPhone video above.
All I saw was a 8k 24 frames only with a maybe little lag but then 24 is not exactly for fast shooting.
Obviously better? Wow.
She will think again when the lens got scratch.@@PhillipSkraba
Some fools think vivid, hi contrast, over sharpening, over exposed is good quality, lol.
@TechieTard I wouldn’t say fools, I’d say people in need of footage that is ready to post, people who have different needs than 10-bit Log.
4:26 delay more at action 4, why you speak about more delay at insta360?
Well, it's best you look at the iPhone video on top, then you'll see which one has a delay.
@@PhillipSkrabayep, I saw this - Ace pro on right side return quicker.
May be I something dont understand, but I reconsider several times.
4:26 I'm confused...looks like it's the Osmo lagging?
Yeah, it was silly of me to use the Ace Pro audio, so look at the iPhone video, that's where you see it lag, and it only lags in 8K with stabe on.
Hi no worries you are good. I watched it over and it made sense. I thought I commented that under my original comment but looks like it didn’t post!
I’m a little confused. With your 8k test you say the lag of the insta 360 is terrible but the video is showing the action4 with the terrible lag??
no that's the insta360 on the left
why do u have osmo 4 tag on the left side and ace pro on the right side, when u have them opposite on the handle? we can see it on the first shot and iphone shot as well.. if the tags are correct, hen osmo lags and have worse picture quality. please respond. thanks
at first i had the same feeling but look closely in the beginning where he points at the cameras and than later where he makes a selfie. then you see the angles of the pictures and the cameras.
Well, they had no choice, they had to make it look better than the Hero 12 and Action 4, which is just rubbish. Lots more vids before I send it back 🔥
Its been 6 Months since your post.
Did you send back you Ace pro?
One issue that doesn't get discussed is the Action 4's image distortion at the edges of the frame. Compared to the Ace Pro, it really is very pronounced, even in Dewarp. Check out this video at 2:03 where this issue seems to be most obvious with the circular object in the background.
A great honest review. Thanks for taking the time to make it. And a BIG thumbs 👍 up as always.
Kym! Thank You! Doing my thing here and keeping things honest, a balance Insta360 is in need of.
Are You sure in 4:30 which camera has lag?
Just look at the iPhone footage.
Save your money friend. Even my Hero 11 is better than the Ace pro. Looking to send mine back
Between Hero 12, Action 4 and Ace Pro, DJI Action 4 is the best option? Sorry just need your expert opinion re action cam. Ty
If it's an action camera you're looking for I'd go with the Action 4, if it's a vlog camera you're looking for I'd go with the Ace Pro.
I am going to have to disagree with your assessments here except the removable lens issue. The ace def looks much better. Overall nice video…
Ace pro looks better
Even in a parallel universe that’s not true.
@@PhillipSkrabaProbably the parallel universe is this one then... 😂
@PhillipSkraba just how it looks to me on RUclips. The Ace picture quality looks better to me. Of course that's subjective 😂
Yup, Ace Pro definitely looks better
Lol you guys are seeing things 😂 On my screen it gets taken down by the Action 4.
6:14
If I look at the results of the DJI Action 4 and Insta360 Ace Pro videos for image quality, I prefer the DJI Action 4 because the image results are more original and the FoV° is wider... on the Insta360 Ace Pro the results are good, bright but the FoV° is a little less wide and skyy. on the back it doesn't look original because it's too blue. and I decided to buy a DJI Action 4.
I see the the Action 4 lagging too. Or I dont understand the demonstration.
@photographiezautrement the demonstration is on the iPhone video above. Insta on the right.
Brother, im really confused
Just give me an honest answer
Which one has better video Quality IN DAY LIGHT , IN HIGHWAYS , IN CITY LIGHTS ON MOUNTAINS
X4 , ACTION 4 OR ACE PRO ??
If you want something that will work in the daytime and in low light, and will always look good, I'd go with the Ace Pro. It looks great at day time and it excels at low light, that's the honest truth.
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you for replying sir !
Is X4 worth the price
I mean the video Quality for motovlogging is it worth or better than Ace Pro or Action 4 ?
@@Darkk_knight_ The quality of video is higher in my opinion on the Ace Pro, BUT the X4 has the option to frame later, so you when motovlogging I think that would be beneficial - you can take the same shot and look at where you're riding, and re-frame the same shot and look at your face as you're riding, that's the beauty of it. The re-frame quality is around 4K now and it does look very nice. The low-light is much better in the Ace Pro however.
@@PhillipSkraba That's really helpful to me.
Thank you
Daylight, OA4 looks better to me.
Funny thing is Insta360 gave all the reviewers Ace Pro cameras with removable lenses.
what about the over hitting issue? i want to but action 4 is that will be a good choice for me? under 500$.
I haven't noticed a problem with over-heating. The Action 4 is a great choice, it really depends on what you're doing. If it's vlogging the Ace Pro seems to tick a lot of boxes. The more I use it, the more I realise it's meant to vlogging.
wht recomend if i use for spearfishing??
Can you run a external mic on the action 4 and run it with a external power bank at the same time??? Can you pair a bluetooth mic to the action 4?
@BassManStrikes That is a good thing!
@@BassManStrikesdji has the same thing. its an Adapter from DJI
According to some, Insta360 says they cover lens replacement for one year
That’s funny right there isn’t it. Why on earth would they go down the dreaded Hero 8 route 🤦🏻♂️
1 year is not enough. they should provide replaceable lens otherwise its not worth it as an action camera
Funny, I paid for the extra warranty on my one rs dual 1 inch and it still took 5 months of arguing with them to replace the lens. They suck.
Well, it's odd all the prototypes we were shown in reviews had removable lenses... Fishy stuff.
I will stand strong, and yes, the replaceable lens is a big issue for such an expensive “pro” camera.

No, not at all. Both great, very little difference.
Great video. Sir you said you edit your photos and videos on Macbook Air M2. Any issues with it performance wise? Throttling etc? Debating between Air and Pro. Mostly because of the 16” screen!
Absolutely no problems, I edit everything on the Air M2, it’s been great!
@@PhillipSkraba Hey me again, do you have the 8gb or 16gb version? I see all over the internet ppl yelling “8Gb iS NoT Enough”. Thanks again
For low light video.... which is the best (without stabilisation)
The Ace Pro wins all low light.
@@PhillipSkraba I do simrace video so I put cam on my forehead....it is heavy?
@@PhillipSkrabaSo...given that...shouldn't you edit your video that says the action 4 is better in low light?
Getting my ace pro today 👌. Their stabilization is the best for hyperlapse 🤔🙌.
I wouldn't believe that for a second, but I'll test it out.
Can you adjust the speed of the Hyperlaspe (Timeshift) like in the DJI Action, ie Auto, X2, x5, x10 speed?
@@timespotphoto603yes 👌. Better quality if you use the photo raw mode and edit the images in post
Yes you can.
Hello, your channel has some of the best comparison videos
Thank you
I have an Osmo Action 4. It has 10 bits
and the Ace Pro has 8 bits
If I want to change my films from the Osmo 4 to my editing program (for example, I want more contrast and vibrancy, it works wonderfully
Does this work as well as with 8 bit like with the Ace Pro or can it lead to a worse result with a color change if you want to change more contrast or vibrancy on the PC with the cutting program
Bro thanks for amazing video! Could you please advise me which of the action cameras is the best for recording my airsoft games on the open areas with a amount over my halmet? Which camera choice would be the best?
Thanks! Well, to be honest, after this video I started using the Ace Pro a LOT, and right now it would be between this and the Action 4.
Looks like i should return my Go Pro 12 and purchase a Acton 4 or a Ace pro. I am leaning towards the ace pro
How was the wb better in low light on the action 4?
It’s the only one with a colour sensor.
Can I do straight travel vlog like showing the city etc.. without the sports on the action 4. Would you prefer that
Sure!
What about Dji action 3 for motorcycle pov videos? Black friday deals its 299 in estonia while gopro 12 is 389. ace pro is too bulky for that use.
I kept mine. In fact, 6 months down the line, I absolutely love mine! Just how blurred are we talking?
Cant decide betwee the two. I think the ace pro has much better low light and hdr video quality, on the other hand i think the acepro has more destortion and a lot warmer / yellowish colours on daylight?
Phillip, i like your channel so much. Your reviews are honest and true. I stick to my 2 months old Action 4 :) you have a new subscriber :) dont stop the good work :)
The Action 4 and the Hero 12 are both worth the money you pay for them, this is the first time I’m contemplating returning a camera, and I own boxes full.

Action 4. The footage is actually better if you use 10 bit colour on the action 4.
Ace pro, it’s better, his review is false
@AviationCreator I wouldn’t say false, more like pre-mature.
Insta 360 has a built in AI chip, does the dji? no. do you have to use the flip up screen? no. U should also review their apps to see how simple or complicated it is. and you should look at the settings, battery life and charging time.
@AviationCreator yes.
Need to wait watching this test, not hd or 4k. But im gonna watch it later, obs I bought the ace pro, hope its good. Gonna get it tomorrow or the next day.
Right now, after using them, I’d lean towards the Action 4, seems way more polished compared to the Ace Pro.
Seems, you focus on negative to insta360, but you didnt say about bader image of sky on action 4 and not do compare in different conditions..
I was, yes. I have been using the Ace Pro a LOT since this video and have started looking at it as a vlogging camera, and to be honest it's become my favourite vlogging camera.
8:25 the sky looks better on ace here
It appears so, the problem is though that the sky was white, heavily overcast without a bit of blue, so this is the Ace Pro misjudging the AWB of the scene and turning the sky blue.
HI
This review is really interesting.
Check the iPhone video, that’s where you’ll see the Ace Pro on the left.
You seem to have seen different videos: on this the Ace Pro was far better and the colors and sky much better!
@@PhillipSkraba Now the question is, what's the best vlogging camera; Ace Pro or Pocket 3? :D
Subbed!
Does it overheat when is hot outside?
I haven’t done any overheating tests yet.

Wait a moment. Didn't you mischange the camera name under the videos? I didnt get it when you showed the lag
The lag can be seen in the iPhone video, the tags are correct.
It's the Action 4 (left side video) that has massive lag, not the Ace Pro (rigth side video) yet you claim the Ace Pro has the bad lag.
Look carefully at the iPhone video. It’s the Ace that has massive lag, it’s on the left in the iPhone video…
@@PhillipSkrabaohhhhh it’s flipped? Cause I did think the same thing, but if the image is mirrored that makes sense

Which one is showing true natural colour of the sky ? Does action 4 is blowing it out and over exposing it
Well, to my eyes it was grey, but the Insta360 did have HDR on, which you can now thankfully turn off it needed.
It's a bit confusing, which one is really Ace Pro and which one is DJI? It seems where you point to be the DJI in the video, there's Ace Pro. I might be wrong, please check. But great review BTW.
Check the iPhone video, it shows both cameras.
I ordered the insta 360 ace pro from Amazon and it didn't even ship so I canceled the order and got the action 4
Good move! Mine will be going back I think, I need to run some more tests, but I feel it’s just not as good a product as my other action cameras.
Why, decision based on this review?
More will come. My videos will be uncensored, without any of the BS, you guys can make your own minds up. I'm just here showing it how it is, and not much of that has been done so far for obvious reasons.

Action cameras should not have moving parts and should be sealed. Period.
Amen to that.
Perfect point of view
The difference with the colour of the sky is most apparent to me with this comparison. What is the most accurate? Was the sky actually white as per the Action 4 or blue as per the Ace Pro.
The sky was heavily overcast, when I looked at it, it was clear white and grey, so I was really baffled that the Insta360 was seeing blue.
I believe the Action 4 has 10 bit color which is important for post color correction, and it has the front screen handy for underwater selfies. The ACE Pro seems to be better at HDR.
So refreshing to watch an unbiased review. You are a legend!
Thanks!
Are the usb c charging doors interchangeable, it is such a pain trying to a DJI replacement door
No, they are not. I guess best place is the DJI store.
Hi Philip I was wondering, u live in Poland but are u polish? I mean u speak like an native English speaker
I live in Poland, but I was born in London, lived there 24 years and then moved to Poland to study cinematography and kind of stayed here.
I think you have the camera mislabeled. Please check because the one that is lagging in the video is the left camera and its labeled DJI...
Your video has labels underneath the the testing videos and it's showing DJI on the left.
Useful. Thanks! Good Luck!
Thank you so much for this! I almost bought the Ace Pro! Already wasn't happy with the image quality on the X3.

Really lol?! Should be 4k by now!
Still waiting. Your videos are worth it. ;-) @@PhillipSkraba
It should be in 4K by now!
@PhillipSkraba yup thanks for sheding light.. It has been my thoughts and questions since its launch. Now i needed to get that dji 4. Lol
Thanks for the honest review
You're welcome!
You forgot the mention the ace pro battery can be easily opened by a slightest bump
It can?!! I have to use Superman strength to open my battery door 🦾
I was waiting for your review so much!
More will come 🤘🏻
Thanks for your thoughts.
I think the insta 360 looks better, but the non-removable lens is what kills it for me.
I think the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 will have a removable lens filter and a front screen.
You can always lower the sharpening in camera with the Ace pro.
@MrWiseinheart that’s correct, mine is on medium.
YES. You're definitely one of my trusted camera channels now. 💯 EXCELLENT testing video. Looking forward to more before you return it. 😂
Thank You! Lots more coming, including against the GoPro 🤘🏻
