Thank you for giving so much to us. I reflect on the comments of how tired you look/are. I just hope that us viewers are making it worthwhile, for you giving us so much. Safe travels, much love and happiness to you! You are so appreciated!
Thank you for this video Christine! I travled in China for three weeks in Bejing, Xian, Gulin and Shangahi back in 2012. I loved China and the people there. Your friends tips are definitely helpful for first time travlers to China. She is totally right about Wechat! China is all about Wechat, Korea is Kakao, Malaysia is all about Whatsapp and Thailand seems to really love LINE. Interesting how each country has their own means of communicating haha.
yes, it's really interesting how each country has their own go-to platform for social messaging and information! Japan is on Kakao too. But China is very much on a different track when it comes to trip planning I feel, due to the fact much of the internet is blocked. The more I learn about China and how expats live and travel there, the deeper things like Wechat or Ctrip go.
Christine you make things sound beautiful, If i travel out of Switzerland, or Bangkok, China will be the destination. have a great day! Jerome from Florida.
Christine, you have to have a good rest, you looked really tired! Thank you for the great video, we have also plans to get to China, so it'll be really useful!
+Soniboy84 This trip was literally nonstop and then I filmed yesterday, flew back home to edit and put up this morning. Currently typing this from the plane to my next destinationn😳🙃🙂
November to the south China, June to the north and the west China, September east China, July, August don't come, too many people, travel price is expensive, the most important thing is to avoid the first week of October, and the first week of may
Well it's about time we get to see some of your China video collection. I was taken back by that rat or cat comment. Maybe it's tongue in cheek. I guess China would be the perfect place for me to start a diet.
Or go vegetarian :). Raimondo was serious. A couple of the expats didn't even want to eat rice; there was once an incident in China where people were getting sick b/c someone was making fake rice from plastic. A couple years back they even discovered some disreputable vendors were scraping old throw away oil to cook with. That's why I asked her about food safety.
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa I'm glad you clarify that Raimondo was being serious. I heard of melamine in baby formula and dog food that killed pets and babies but fake rice is news to me. It's just amazing how unscrupulous some business people are that they will knowingly kill people just to make money.
Yes, there's been quite a few incidents of food safety in China. It scarred me as well. I've been traveling to China a few times a year since the mid 90s and have eaten and stayed at places from dirt roads to big blvds. It's not necessary to go vegetarian in China. I suggest that you stick with large super markets, or even Wal-Mart or Carrefour, for budget travelers. And, large restaurants and hotels for those not so concerned about cost. Putting things I perspective, if you get sick from prostitutes you're just asking for it. If you get sick from eating, it's really beyond your control. Life's short, don't let timidity ruin a good experience.
mik mik You can sign up for Wechat in the US. The video and voice call quality is great. It is also relatively cheap to call on a mobile phone back to the US. Get your SIM in one of the big cities where they know how to deal with a foreign passport because registration is required. Ask the place where you got your SIM what is the cheapest way to call the US and the rate. If you want access to US sites like google, you should get a cross border card in Hong Kong, assuming you're in Hong Kong first. BTW, I find China Unicom to be really good in Hong Kong and the mainland. Hope this helps. Best to go to their official stores.
Great video. I was recently in China for a little over 10 days and visited Beijing, Shanghai, Zhouzhong and it was quite the experience. I mentally was not prepared for the culture that was so rushed, rude and ..... I will have to go back before my 10 year visa expires when I develop a little more patience. Lol and I caught your face when that man sneezed yeah lol a lot of that.
The Wanderess Adventure Just a supplement to your rude comment. I agree that Chinese can come across as rude. Some are actually rude. But more often than not, it's like New Yorkers. The Chinese are very industrious people because they have lived in poverty for a long time. They rush so they can make more to feed themselves. Times have changed but that characteristic has not faded, yet. That rush or impatience would come across as rudeness. Also, Chinese has no problem asking about your pay, worth of your house, etc, which might offend some people. That's pretty accepted in China. I hope this will help to make you feel better as you travel through China,
In China every big city looks nearly the same. Beijing and xi'an are good for history. go west if you want sight seeing, like gansu, qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan…. only language will be a problem.

Excellent . . . thanks. Do you have any information on how to keep in touch with family back in the U.S.? Can anyone use WeChat in the U.S to china?
Yes. A lot of us in the U.S. here use WeChat.
