    Concept
    Finite Verbs :- The verb which changes its form according to the subject or tense of the sentence is called a finite verb.
    Non-Finite Verbs :- The verb which doesn't change its form according to the subject or tense of the sentence is called a nonfinite verb.
    * There are three kind/types of a non-finite verb
    (1) Infinitive, (2) Gerund and (3) Participle
    [1] Infinitives :- Infinitive is the base form of a verb often preceded by 'to'.
    --- It works as a noun or an adjective or and adverb in a sentence.
    --- Sometimes and infinitive is used without the marker to it is called a 'bare infinitive.
    [2] Gerend :- When the -ing form of a verb (V + ing) is used as a noun, it is called a gerund.
    [3] Participle :- When the -ing form or the 3rd form of a verb is used to form continuous tenses or perfect tenses respectively or if it is used as an adjective, it is called a participle.
    * There are three kinds of a participle (i) Present Participle, (ii) Past Participle & (iii) Perfect Participle
    (i) Present Participle :- When the -ing form of a verb is used to form continuous tenses or used as an adjective, it is called a present participle.
    Note :- Difference between a Gerund and a Present Participle
    Gerund = Verbal Noun
    Present Participle = Verbal Adjective / Used to form continuous tenses
    (ii) Past Participle :- When the 3rd form of a verb is used to form perfect tenses or used as an adjective, it is called a past participle.
    (iii) Perfect Participle :- Perfect Participles demonstrate that an action was completed in the past.
    Its form is --- Having + Past Participle (V3).

    Dear sir ,
    The lesson is tremendously useful & interesting as well . The way of presentation is very simple & crystal clear . Students always find themselves confused between verbs & gerunds . You have explained nicely with relevent examples . But To run is a good exercise seems to be rather strange . In my opinion , it needs to be a gerund ( verbal noun ) as it shows action as a noun . Infinitive form can be used as it's good to have exercise regularly . After all , it's my interpretation . I have been a trainer of professional English for the last 32 years & Cambridge certified .
    With best wishes .

    • @EnglishHighway
      @EnglishHighway  Год назад +1

      Dear viewer, you have raised a good question. Let me clarify the concept.
      If we say "To run is a good exercise.", it can seem strange because this type of use is less common but it is not grammatically wrong.
      We can say, "Running is a good exercise.", is preferable over "To run is a good exercise." But the use of infinitive is not wrong here, however it is less common.
